Hello,

We need a /stem/ board. We currently have a few academia boards with woefully low levels of traffic. These boards would benefit from being merged. I propose the following boards are merged into /stem/:

>/chem/ - Science & Chemistry
>/tech/ - Computers & Technology
>/tesla/ - Engineering (still doesn't have a fucking button)
>/math/ - Mathematics

This would lead to a more lively board with a higher number of average posters instead of a few barren boards with rare postings. Time for /stem/.

I like the idea of condessing a few boards and I also like the idea of adding a new one at least on a trial basis every year or 18 to 24 months. But I dont think its hapeening. As much as I love the site, what you get is what you see baby.

But yes condessing a tiny handful of low traffic boards would be good.

And using wildcard to test boards and give them a home if they work would be good.

But I think we aren't getting it. I don't think its even so bad, I think its just a not wanting to change the ships course. Gotta take it as it is.

> the ultimate endpoint for the idea of "containment boards"

What would be great though is to build NJ a brother using just text from BH posts. Unfortunately, most of them are probably lost to time. Maybe it could be supplement with Fool posts and /tinfoil/. It all sounds about the same to me.

consolidation of some boards, using wildcard to test new boards and give them or not. boards dont have zero value even if their smaller. Its just making sure they have a handful of posters.

the thing is that venturing anywhere, all the boards have good posts and good posters. its just a matter of not losing that. even the tinyest boards here are legit a little special. so dont hate on slow small boards really really.

even tho i do agree there'd be a way more optimal way to do this.

Nah I think the new board would have a lot more draw. People don't go to the boards so much because they're so specific so they don't have much of a demographic.

Of course it could end up like that, but you don't have to bet it all. Have a trial month or two where /STEM/ or what the merge will be called goes live while just having the pre-merged boards frozen. Things take off? All fine and dandy. Things fall apart? Thaw the old boards and bring it back the way it was. As long as everybody are well informed I don't think it could end up in disaster.
