ATTACK ON TITAN by Barnaby Billerforth - Sat, 04 May 2013 15:28:39 EST ID:HlKhYCpm No.30026 Ignore Report Quick Reply

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants.
Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as one of the city walls is damaged by a 60 meter giant causing a breach in the wall. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as Eren's mother is eaten alive.Unable to save her , Eren vows that he will wipe out every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind.

TL;DR: Giant people, titans, go nuts and start eating small people. It gets so bad that people are put into an existence of hiding behind giant walls and constant fear. One day, a defender finds himself able to transform into a titan as well. However, this is only the beginning of his journey to unraveling the truth behind that titans. Best of all, super fucking violent.

I'm reading this now, and pic related, I'm almost all caught up. These fucking Titans man. The whole thing creeps me the hell out. This entire series has a profound sense of creeping dread, and the mangaka lets you know right from the get go that shit can and will get real, at any point with no warning. But these Titans are to me, Junji Ito level of creepy.

Also, I seriously hope Eren continues on the path he's currently on with the other two. I feel like it'd lead to a lot more immediate "answers" than the basement. And I use answers loosely because tbh I feel like whoever is pulling the strings will only admit to some half truths to make everything else he/she is saying plausible. Also, the hairy motherfucker. I've watched and read a lot of violent mangas/animes. I'm not some sort of badass, but I think I'm desensitized to a lot of things. Attack on Titan is the first thing in a long time that genuinely disturbed me. That scene where Eren watches his mom get eaten...Jesus Christ I'm going to have nightmares. Whenever I read or watch AoT I have this awful feeling in the pit of my stomach. Absolutely horrifying stuff.

You know what's interesting about all biological things? You can poison them and they die just the same as if you shot them.

See this little frog. less than a dropper of it's poison can finish 3500 people and all it needs is a blood stream while it breaks down the body having it attack itself.

So don't stick one in your mouth.

K so I watched the show. Not typically an anime guy so I'm pretty biased. Lot's of tropes and cliches (my god and the fucking flashbacks lol) but overall I enjoyed it a lot. I'm just kind of wondering about this full retard moment. Would I make shitty writer? I don't get how Annie becoming a titan is any more retarded than Eren becoming one. At first I thought Eran becoming one was this full retard moment you all spoke of but it was Annie. She's in a cacoon now (where the anime has ended for now) so I don't know her motives but I don't really see the huge problem with it.

I honestly thought the female titan was Erans mom (you can call that full retard, its OK). I thought she got eaten and learned to control it (you also see a black haired woman training with the same hair style as the female titan but a different color). The thing that bugged me is Annie loses that beak of hers for some reason when she goes into titan mode. I like that Annie wasn't drawn to look attractive (which seems to be the aim of every young female character in anime). It's weird that she essentially gets hotter when shes a monster lol. I thought THAT was retarded but not the whole thing Annie titan situation

Who told you it goes full retard? AoT is awesome, and just has obnoxious fans that bitch "2dramatic&edgy4me". But, as this is /616/ you are obligated to download the manga from where the show left off, a quick google search will tell you which chapters the show covered and you can jump into the manga at that point with no confusion whatsoever. And the torrents are ready and available, also, mangatraders has all the most recent chapters for download and the spin off series. The story gets 10X more intense at that point, and reading instead of watching didn't make it any less intense, scary, or emotional. Some folks bitch that we haven't gotten answers yet, but LOST took 100 episodes before explaining anything, I've learned to be patient with my supernatural mysteries.

It's ongoing, so putting up with all the sad shit is hopefully just a build up to an epic happy ending... hopefully. It's not even that tragic, it's just a lot more intense and emotional than other manga. And the TV show had an amazing director who made scenes really terrifying, I'm glad I watched the show first, when I read new chapters, I can imagine them the way the director would show them, with epic music blaring and pausing between every line to let the weight of the situation sink in fully

Ya started reading the magna. I noticed in the Magna the female titan and "you know who" actually look way more similar, Guess they just made her more ideally attractive for the show. While I'm here, I said earlier that I'm not into anime but I think I just haven't been watching/reading the right stuff.

The only stuff I'v really enjoyed was this, blood the last vampire and (not sure if this counts) Afro samurai. That Samurai champloo show is on netflix I might check it out. But ya any suggestions based on that? I keep hearing berserk or berserk (or whatever it's called) is good. Oh and umm color blue? I forget the exact title but it's about a pop star and her stalker.

Berserk is worth reading, not watching. The show is like 24 episodes of origins story and 2 episodes of the insanity that is the rest of the manga. Samurai Champloo gets mixed reviews, but it's fans love it to death. If you haven't seen Cowboy Bebop, watch that instead, it's by the same team but has unanimous praise. Color Blue is a trippy movie, I prefer Paranoia Agent, the TV show the director made, it is an ultimate mindfuck (but this isn't /mtv/ so I'm not really going to start listing TV and films)

But enjoy that Titan manga, it significantly revs up the pace right at the point the show ended

So ya this has gotten more compelling and dunno what people are saying about it going full retard. I'm intrigued now, it may be a bit over the top but it's not like the initial concept wasn't to begin with.

I know what you're saying I can imagine how this is all gonna look. After reading it (I started where the anime left off) I'm kind of confused as to why the anime has been tamed down in terms of dialogue and violence. On netflix it was TV-ma but hey I know nothing about anime/Japanese ratings/what will happen when it's dubbed. I know this sound's kind of juvenile but Eran swearing actually makes me like him more. It's just makes for a more believable spaz/ an actual kid. He seemed way to mature for his age (voice actor) and the way he spoke. I guess it helps the dialogue is in my head... really don't like that voice actor lol. I have come around to the character but when he initially "died" I was hoping that was it for him. Damn Eran smoke a fucking joint or something.

i'll point out there's not much japanese that directly translates into profanity. when profanity's worked into sentences it usually indicates the speech is just derogatory to varying degrees. "mad scientist girl." that's all there is to it. since the series doesn't pull punches with the violence it used the recent scenes as black comedy, i'd be surprised if at some level the author wasn't mocking similar characters in other series.

Is the manga any different from the anime? The anime moved way too slow and keeps retreading the same ground, with the same characters even! The characters also have no depth or growth, and there isn't enough action to justify the lack.
Seriously, how many times do we need to see "duty vs self-interest" from EVERY character, and have it play out the same way every time, to include the bit characters that just die 10 seconds after they are introduced?

Well you can read a manga faster, so when you marathon a bunch of issues, the pacing seems a lot better than the show. But then when you start reading month to month, you will get frustrated when certain chapters barely move things forward. I started reading it after the show ended, and the arcs right after that point were my favorite ones yet. The current arc has been all over the place though, and irks me at every turn. It feels close to moving on back to Titans, though, and hopefully the government arcs will go away

According to the author the next two volumes (consisting of the most recent two chapters and the six chapters after) will be the most important in the series. This is all clearly leading up to something big. Chapter 66 will likely end the arc and completely change the direction of the series if it's that important. A while back Armin did predict the wall titans will all take a walk very soon and his predictions have NEVER been wrong. Perhaps the beast titan will use the coordinate to wake them all up. destroying the walls all at once. We're due for shakeup. Also what the hell are ymir reiner and bertholdt up to? Last we saw they were hanging out in [spoiler]shiganshina in that bonus chapter.

also according to a recent interview we're closely approaching the point where "the foreshadowing ends" and the answers begin. Though apparently there's exactly one more "mystery" that hasnt been shown yet, the editor commented on how much he's liked it since before publication even started. Seems Act 3/3 will start around chapter 66 from what I can tell.

also also new chapter is called Sin or Crime, the word is sort of vague in japanese.

Pretty good chapter. I like how it was just filled with answers instead of more questions. I completely forgot about the commander's father and his question in the classroom. And maybe good individuals is what Humanity really needs to survive, in any circumstance not just from titans.

I think that's one of her relatives. From what I could gather the entire family has titan shifting ability and Grisha ate all of them to steal the various powers, for example Frieda had the Coordinate as we can tell when she mindwipes Historia in a flashback to when she lived on the farm a few chapters back. I believe Grisha or Eren's mother had some connection to the Reiss family as well.

lol I'm used to ridiculous noncanonical crossovers but I dont think marvel has ever done one with a manga series. They're gonna have to be careful with who they use on marvel's side though, someone like Iron Man would be waaaay too overpowered for this sort of thing. Spiderman seems like a good balance.

The important thing here though, is that the doors are now open to a crossover comic where Wolverine Luffy and Goku have an eating contest.

Woooooow was seriously not expecting that scene with Zackley torturing one of the nobles, jesus that was gross. Other than that though this was almost exactly what I expected. Though looking at Grisha's titan I can't help but notice the similarities between it and the beast titan. I doubt he himself is the Ape but it's curious. And Eren seemed unreasonably angry towards the end of Rod's conversation with Historia, I wonder if Rod is lying to her about certain aspects of their family's deaths and Eren is pissed over that. I bet he'll activate his titan form by straining himself to the point of shattering his teeth or breaking his arms.

Lot of stuff happened here, a lot I predicted but some stuff I didn't. Rod Reiss you lying sack of crap. It's so obvious that everything he says is only a half truth and dumbasstoria can't seem to figure that out. I hope she does take the titan serum, and Eren somehow transforms too and eats her so he can use the "true" power of the Reiss family. He might have that blood already though, his mom looks VERY similar to Frieda. I wonder if that titan that created the walls is Ymir or some other person. If it's her I think after using that power (or being forced to, she said she was sacrificed) her titan form got smaller and weaker, cause that thing looks much taller. Also what's this about Kenny wanting to take that power himself? I wonder what his plans are.

I love /mtv/ but holy fuck, do they get impatient with the show bothering to have good directing. People bitch at the show for having lobg, melodramatic moments as if it never happens in the comic. I like them in the show and comic, and the page you cite, I stayed on for a while, taking in everyone's face and thinking off all they had done to lead to this point, the page was very emotional and had a lot of meat to chew on if you know how to feel.

Oh my god I was so wrong about how Eren would handle this. Isayama said from the beginning there would be a "horrible truth" revealed to Eren at some point and it would either change him or break him, I guess it broke him. Seeing Eren plead to Historia to eat him was heartbreaking. I still say we're not getting the whole story though, Grisha isn't an idiot, he wouldn't have stolen those powers for no reason. I agree with Kenny on this (I'm really starting to like Kenny now). Also historia's titan is fuckhuge and seemingly about to cause a cave in, she might not get a chance to eat him anyways. Next chapter (February 8th) will end the volume, shit's about to get unfathomably real.

also lol at japanese people being an oppressed master race within the walls. Watch, the true bad guys will be the Koreans and Chinese.

okay wow that previous cliffhanger was a total fakeout. I was confused at first, but it makes sense. The last chapter cut to the survey corps seeing a titan transformation's light, directly after Historia readied the syringe, but inbetween all that she decided fuck this shit and it was her DAD who licked the titan serum off the ground. And he might be bigger than the colossal titan? God damn. Eren having the power might be a better way of doing things, it seems Reiss family members are controlled by it. Grisha knew what he was doing then.

Fucking hell though I am hyped for this fight, since Eren found that armor titan vial. motherfucker bit through the glass. If it's anything like the last one this will go on for several chapters.

I kinda prefer the main manga's style. I like how raw and stark it is, the titans seem more frightening and impactful than in any other media too. even if the human proportions can be off sometimes (which gets fixed in the tankoban releases).

I gotta say though, Before the Fall had some damn good backgrounds. Isayama himself commented on how well the author depicted the world he created. Generally good art too, I read that entire chase scene in one go too, it was a really good series of chapters. I think my favorite part was the titan emerging from the flames of the makeshift bomb they hit it with.. Though that MP commander with the whip is way too anime for this, she doesn't really fit in to this sort of world. I can't comment on Birth of Levi since I haven't read either the manga or the vn. I figured I'd wait for the OVAs.

Fakeooooooout! That was confusing, initially. So the serums are for different titan abilities? Has this been mentioned before? I feel like it hasn't. Before this I thought the serum just gave the titan transformation power and their individual powers kinda fit their personalities/phenotypes or something. I guess not. Can't wait to see Amored Eren and can't wait to see all hell break loose, again.

Completely unrelated, but what happens to the body of somebody eaten by a Titan Shifter when they revert back to human? I remember Bertholdt or whatever his name is (Colossal Titan) eating some mook before escaping as a human shortly afterward.

we haven't had a proper organized military operation against titans for a while, this should be good. rod reiss looks exactly like the obese titan in the prototype. Yet another thing from the prototype that ended up in the final series eventually.

well first we gotta get through this whole turkeytitan ordeal. this is the first chapter of a volume so I imagine we'll need 2-3 more chapters at the least for this to be settled. possibly spilling over into the next volume. then comes the trip to shiganshina through titan controlled lands which could either be a quick montage if it goes well or a full chapter or two if there's complications. and who knows how titan infested shiganshina is at this point. alternatively, there's a chapter where eren learns to use his coordinate effectively and they just breeze on straight through to the basement. and this is all assuming that along the way they dont get fucked with by rebel noble factions, the beast titan, or reiner and bertholdt. All of which could happen. I think we'll see it before the end of the year though at the very least.

Who even still cares about the basement? We only wanted to see it when we thought it was where we would get all the answers. But we got the answers now, the basement is now where they need to get to find the solution, now that they actually know the problem properly.

we have a few big answers, but not nearly all of them. we still don't know the origin of titans or shifting powers, who ymir's people were, the ape's identity and motivations, anything at all of reiner bertholdt and annie's hometown, what grisha was specifically trying to accomplish, what RBA were trying to accomplish and why they stopped short in the initial attack, etc.

it'd be so easy for the writer to just toss in a couple small conflicts and flashback arcs between here and The Basement. (my money's on it getting pushed to the end of the series.)

the author has said otherwise, I'm inclined to believe him. I imagine whatever's in the basement will take a while to elaborate on though, could be a pretty long info-dump. And I wont deny there might be a diary/journal in the basement that starts off a flashback arc. I kinda want that though. It could be about the world before the walls were built. maybe even insight on the origin and purpose of the titans. I'm betting on a scientific origin like in the prototype, and their sudden appearance blew humanity back into middle ages tech. But who knows. they might even keep it vague.

That scene where Eren was noticing the kids watching and realizing how they were like his crew as kids, and then fucking that Titan up before it could traumatize the children and ruin their lives they way they ruined his.... fucking brilliant. He not only saved the wall, but the innocence of the next generation. And showfags complain when the show slows down to emphasize how emotional things are.... fuck them, that is half the reason this series is so much better than the competition.

yeah reading the chapter I had to stop for a second to let each panel sink in at some points. This will be great to see animated.

But while I dont mind the show slowing down, I wish stuff would be going on instead of just static images panned across the screen. Make them shift their eyebrows slightly or frown or something I dont know. But when you just have the voice actors talk over a slowly panning traced panel from the manga it's kinda disappointing visually. It's not as big a deal as some people make it out to be though. Honestly I was pleased with the adaption and its pacing for the most part. (the last two episodes were mangled though, ugh).

I didn;t watch as much of the show, because I swithed over to the manga mid season when I became impatient. I didn;t realize they just use the emotional sequences as an excuse to not animate a few scenes and save money. That's a valid complaint. But I've seen people who hate AoT solely because of the melodrama. Which I guess is also a valid complaint, but I know I wouldn;t love this series so much if it wasn't so good at hammering home how emotional and scary their situations are. It gives me a good idea how it must feel living somewhere war torn.

I thought so too at first but apparently it's not enough chapters for the whole season, maybe half. We haven't quite hit a "season finale moment" yet since then, I think it would have to be soon if it's a 25 episode season again. I figure we'll reach the finale by chapter 70 or 74 at this rate. They're both volume closers and he tends to put the climactic bits in the end of a volume.

also that part you mention is gonna be where they fuck us with a lengthy mid season hiatus I swear to god.

The whole point of all his lines and actions from the punch onwards in the newest chapter, is that he's toughing up and fully accepting his role, just like Historia. "I hope I got rid of him". He's recently managed to accept the "horrible truth" the author hinted at forever ago, so there's not much more that can break him down at this point.

Also "melodrama" queen? I dont get why people hate there being any emotion in AoT whatsoever. If that's what you want blood gore and fights with no emotional response just watch Genocyber or something. Berserk has plenty of crying and people cursing their own uselessness, plenty of other anime and media in general do, but somehow only Attack on Titan gets shit on for it.

He wasn't bitching about being important he felt inadequate. Obviously he's important, he recognizes his purpose as humanity's trump card. Honestly though yeah punching himself was a bit too silly. I think Eren getting his shit together could have been symbolized by something better and more subtle. I was hoping he would just do an internal monologue expressing his resolve, make a determined face, and that would be the end of it.

FINALLY. I am so hyped for this arc. I've been waiting so many months for the return of the Beast Titan, God that spread was impressive, almost Kentaro Miura quality. Isayama's art has really jumped up in quality lately. I mean look at this shit (megaspoilers obviously)

So, a few things on my mind:

I had a hunch the anonymous new character from the art exhibit in japan was gonna be the ape. I had no proof but somehow it just felt right. Does anyone else get a military vibe from him?

Armin's comment about worse nightmares beyond the walls was ominous. He's never wrong. We're due for a larger threat since things are getting too easy. Something that makes the hopelessness of the initial colossal titan assault seem trivial in comparison. I believe the ape shifter will be a harbinger of something worse.

Where the hell is Ymir?

>>39613
the headbutt comment made him remember his face, and then he realized the face in grisha's memory was the exact same. it was just keith shadis before he shaved his head.

I'm not sure what his theory is but I think we all knew Keith Shadis would be important when he said "Grisha, today your son has become a soldier". As for the recent chapters, After Historia decides to side against Rod Reiss and the status quo he laps up the titan serum in desperation and for whatever reason turned into a much larger, but malformed colossal type titan. They make a plan and defeat him, Historia gets the final blow and thus the credibility to be accepted as queen, in addition to her royal blood. The switch in power seems to have gone over very well with everyone except some of the aristocrats. It seems all or most of Kenny's squad was killed or captured, he himself died immediately after entrusting Levi with the titan serum he stole from Rod. Now that the scouting legion is running things instead of the inner military police, they're starting to develop technology again. Eren seems to have mastered the hardening ability as well so the next stop is the basement. Reiner and Bertholdt were last seen in a bonus chapter taking a break in shiganshina on the wall with Ymir after escaping the titans Eren sicked on Reiner. Newest chapter implied they planed to rescue Annie first, but the beast titan shows up and fucks up Reiner's shit, telling them Annie will have to wait. He is then revealed as a titan shifter (and also the "mystery character" revealed at a museum exhibit in japan some months back). However Ymir isn't in the new chapter, so it's possible she either ran off at some point, is hiding from the beast shifter, or already captured/killed by him.

if you want me to elaborate on anything specific ask away. I tried to shorten it as best I could and probably forgot some stuff.

Interesting to see all that from a different point of view. I like that we finally get some characterization for Shadis and Grisha. Decent chapter even if there weren't any huge reveals, unless you count Shadis being the one who sabotaged eren's 3DMG gear in training, hoping he'd fail and not live the way his father wanted.

Yeah I kinda figured he was from outside the walls. I wonder where his memory went, perhaps he erased his memory on purpose beforehand. I think he must have some connection to the beast shifter as well, and left from his and RBA's village. they have the same exact glasses and have similar facial structures. In terms of build and shape their titan forms are similar too. Also I don't think him running off that specific day makes him a bad father, he didn't know she died yet. Now him forcing this on his son, that's pretty fucked up. There was clearly some big reason he did it though. Remember the Rod Reiss flashback? Rod didn't tell Historia what Grisha said, but he was clearly pleading emotionally with the Reiss family about something, which it seems they completely refused before he decided to transform and eat them. I'm sure there's even more that Rod left out of that story.

It is faithful to the manga, and a ton of awesome stuff has happened since the point the show got to. Season 2 will be way better than season 1 IMO. Season 1 covered the manga up to Volume 8 Chapter 34, you can start reading chapter 35-present and not have missed anything or be confused. I did it the same way, and never read the chapters that the anime covered, just jumped in where the show left off.

agreed. It's too bad that we've had to wait so long but it's understandable with the series being monthly and all. Lord knows how long Season 3 will take :( . I can't even pick a scene I'm most excited to see animated. The Utgard arc is what cemented the series as a favorite for me, and everything after was just as great.

>never read the chapters that the anime covered, just jumped in where the show left off.
maybe you should have. there's a change in the second Annie fight that characterized Eren completely differently. Instead of hesitating all that time to transform, and impaling himself while all that filler stuff happened, he just transformed immediately after Mikasa said the world is cruel while her and Armin waited on either side of the tunnel . "Yes, it most certainly is." Jumps out of the building and punches Annie's shit. Fight goes down exactly the same from that point until right before the end, none of that fire titan berserk mode stuff happened. Eren kept his shit together the whole time and assisted the survey corp in trying to remove annie from her titan before she crystallized herself.

Sasha went full Titan over that meat, huh?
Also, Jean is going to die this next arc, his dialogue during the fight with Eren was foreshadowing his future heroic self-sacrifice.

So what do you guys think the "memories of the world" will be that everyone has had erased from their minds? That they live on our Earth after an apocalypse? Did Titans cause the apocalypse or come about because of the world ending? My theory: They are not on Earth, and are survivors of the first colony ship to leave a dead Earth for a new planet. And Titan's were either caused by something discovered on the new planet or something they encountered in space.

Also, a note about #71. Back when season 1 aired, I was the only person on /mtv/ saying that someone must have sabotaged Eren's gear, and everyone else was saying that I was paranoid and it was just a defect. I'm glad the flashbacks revealed I was right and that Shadis fucked it up to try to hold him back.

>>40389
Yeah, even if my theory is wrong, I expect the origin to be sci-fi and not fantasy in nature. As for my other planet theory, I used to think the wallfolds were a part of their spaceship, and that the ship crashed into the planet and was buried and only those parts protruded. It could've been the tail end of their propulsion engine sticking up and they moved in within its boundaries. But now we know the wall is made of Titans so nvm. But they always said the wall was made of some unknown element, so I didn't know what else to think.

I did really enjoy seeing that titan sleeping during the daytime, that was fascinating and scary. The theory on moonlight titans was interesting to hear. And all those shots of Shiganshina and the two page spreads were nice as well. And even though it was mostly a flashback, it was good to see Armin and Eren being buds and talking about the outside world again. Other than that, yeah, all it did was hype up next chapter. Not a bad chapter by any means but I probably could have waited till next month and pretended I was reading a double length issue. Next time is a volume closing chapter anyways, those are always the best ones.

Such a tense chapter. We've been waiting for this confrontation since the ape first appeared and the first eren vs reiner fight and it's finally begun. The two page spread with the beast titan transforming all of those mindless titans at once was creepy as fuck, I love it. It's gonna be hard waiting month to month while this shit goes down. I kinda want to take a break and marathon the whole fight once it's done, but I've got at least three people at work who will spoil me for sure if I lag behind. They'll do it on purpose too the motherfuckers.

>>40750
def not. isayama is a total MMA nerd. We WILL get a strategic titan fight. Though I'm certain Reiner has trained heavily since then so it won't be so easy. He must have realized last time that without Bertholdt coming in to save him, Eren would have ripped his limbs off one by one. Before he was relying entirely on strength and rarely gave thought to technique or strategy, that's how Annie beat Reiner's ass in training corps sparring practice too. Then again, I'm sure Eren has been thinking about this as well.

Enough drama about which family is the rightful heir and turkey titans, we got Beast Titan and Armored Titan fucking shit up again like the old days. The fight is just beginning so I don't have much to say about it yet, it was just good to see shit hitting the fan again and everyone putting it all on the line. Also, I can't wait for next month to see Mikas in action with her sweet new weapon.

Just finished it. Hot damn what a chapter. "Do you have any idea where we are right now?". This is the Eren I love. Determined, emotional, and angry as all hell. I've had enough of low self esteem Eren, it's time to wreck some shit. And boy is Reiner's shit getting wrecked already. That was brutal. I'll bet Hange helped Eren develop some crazy applications of his new power. His brass knuckle thing already looks more refined than what Annie does. It's gonna be so hard waiting a month inbetween chapters while this battles goes on it's too good ughghghgasdfasdf. And what are these Thunder Spears they've developed? That should be interesting. But it seems the beast titan has some crazy shit up his sleeve as well. His tactical use of coordinate power is impressive and terrifying. The pack mule titan was particularly interesting and disturbing. Especially once i noticed those holes on one of the barrels it's carrying. That is the exact same pattern of holes Bertholdt was looking through two chapters ago. I think titansquatch is gonna throw the bertbarrel at the survey corps, bert will transform mid air, and flatten a large part of the town and squish a shit ton of people when he lands.

New chapter was fucking awesome, I love this new arc. Best one in a long long time, after over a year of shuffling around and human drama. Titan fights and the basement impending, this is the shit.
Granted this one was more a flashback, but still an emotional and informative one. I'm starting to wonder if maybe Team Titans are actually the good guys in all this mess. They don't sound like villains when they talk in private, but just sad dudes who clearly have been through some fucked up shit that we don't know about yet.

Do you not watch or read this and are curious? The only point where you can kill a Titan is deep in their neck, which you need to hack deep into to reach the weak kill point. Sometimes you gotta really dig around to hit it properly.

Also, maybe they have big cannons, but those don;t work well in tight, inner city warfare and would just miss a ton and blow up buildings instead. There's at least one moment where people need to use explosives on the back of a Titan and then rush in and strike the weak point after the explosions blow away a good chunk of flesh. The 3d manuver gear is best suited for city and forest battles. It basically turns you into Spider-Man with swords, swinging from building to building and hacking at necks as you go by and hope not to get grabbed.

they have two types of cannons, one only really slows em down and is a spread weapon, and the other is inaccurate as hell, due to the level of technology in their society. sometimes the second one does take out a titan though so they're not completely useless. the second question is spoilery but if you really wanna know, the inner faction of the military police was revealed to be holding back technology for unknown reasons, that's why they never got better weapons (among other non-combat technologies). but now that they've been overthrown the Scouting Legion is starting to develop 3dmg equipped with gas-launched explosive-tipped spears. they're essentially primitive missiles. They pierce the nape and explode inside of it.

I'm pretty sure season 2 will end with the Turkey Titan arc. Season 1 covered exactly 33 chapters. Turkey Titan dies in Chapter 66. The entire series is expected to wrap in #100. Seems like a fairly straightforward map of the next two seasons. This current arc is more like the explosive season 3 opener.

yeah christ, the series hasn't been this hopeless and tragic in years. between that speech over a symbolic mountain of corpses a couple chapters back, and this new chapter, Erwin is starting to feel like a reverse Griffith. Seeing as Isayama is a Berserk fan and said in an interview that Mikasa was partly inspired by Casca, that might be intentional. Griffith would have just bailed and booked it over to the basement, and planned for that contingency in the beginning.

has anyone else read this shit? cause holy fuck. after 82 chapters we finally got to see the shot that the series has been teasing in promotional art the whole time. and of it was Eren's second ever kill outside of titan form ever. Big bert is finally DOWN. Armin's plan for that was fucking brilliant, I got chills when I saw that Eren's titan was a titan crystal decoy and he takes the thing down as a human. Bad. ass. and seeing mikasa blow reiner the fuck out was great too. yesssssss. I don't think Armin is coming back though you don't get burned alive fall fifteen stories and live. might end up with a shitty titan though. rod reiss's titan came out malformed when he only got a partial dose. it couldn't even support it's own weight, even though it was supposed to be some sort of combat equivalent of a colossal type titan. I imagine the full dose is needed for a proper titan. plus they only have the one shifter available to eat now. I think a lot of the weirder more mutated titans are a result of not getting a full dosage of the serum. I have a feeling zeke actually used a vaporized form of it to turn connie's hometown into his titan army. like a chemical weapon attack. notice how his mom was inside a house and probably got a lesser dose as a result, so she had spindly little arms in titan form and a generally emaciated appearance. there were a lot of those tiny oddly formed ones in that group.

I dunno man killing erwin was a pretty big deal. and they said right from the beginning if they brought someone back from the brink of death, it would actually be someone important. Not like they're gonna waste it getting Hanji's eye back. I can understand Levi's reasoning for letting Armin be the one to get it over Erwin too. That was totally fair. The only part I didn't like was how far Armin fell that high and was still breathing, even if he was still minutes from death. That was some Peggy Hill skydiving accident tier improbability. It would have made more sense if his fall got broken a little by a tree or something. I can't imagine those roofs he fell on have THAT much give to them alone. Though I suppose most members of the Survey Corps seem to have bodies like olympic swimmers once they're out of that 4 year bootcamp, so maybe there's some extra durability there.

if anyone has been waiting to catch up until they get into the basement and explain everything, they just did. I had a lot of theories on what could be outside the walls but I didn't expect two groups playing the nazi game. it's like they're playing hot potato with the arm bands "times up now it's YOUR turn to live in the concentration camps". Though it sounded like Grisha flat out wanted Marley destroyed, not just subjugated. That's some intense shit. I wonder where they can even go from here. the situation is significantly different now that we have all this information. and if my math is right we have exactly one remaining titan shifter to see, final boss?

also I'm pretty sure grisha's first wife is the titan that ate eren's mom.

well there's nine shifters, grisha ate one to become a shifter and then ate frieda, eventually having eren eat him so that accounts for two. then you've got reiner and bertholdt (now armin) for four. zeke annie and ymire for 7. then 8 for that packmule guy who we dont know anything about yet. his titan is in the old timey pages depicting the titan war though. that leaves the ninth final and so-far unseen titan which I would assume is under control of marley. at least, I can't imagine there's some random shifter dude we haven't seen yet in the walls.

> I'm a bit confused as to who's who
what specifically? like, what the factions are right now? it's pretty much down to three groups: 1. marley, 2, the eldians who became titan shifters and seek the coordinate (founding titan ymir's titan controlling power) to exchange for marley citizenship for their whole families, 3. the wall people and scouting legion. ymir is a wildcard and we don't know where her allegiance will end up or if she's even alive, though judging by the ilse's journal chapter and previous statements she's made about being a goddess, she probably has something to do with the progenitor titan, or is it's reincarnation. which would fit into norse mythology regarding Ymir.

>and... uh, where
I guess a larger version of madagascar big enough to hold the walls and then some, if you flip the map we saw upside down. mainland upsidedownfrica is marley empire territory, though it's implied there's other countries beyond the portion of the map we saw. technological age seems to be right before the industrial revolution, or during it.

>>42662
oh the toy is definitely some sort of retroactive foreshadowing, or whatever the term would be. I don't think the beast titan's identity is supposed to be a mystery or something at this point though if that's what you're saying.

As to where I meant like which faction is on the mainland vs the island. To clarify what i meant about marleys being connected to the wall people, well they said so, ya? although that seems to be a lie and they have their own agenda. TBH ive been drinkning all night but i don't think it would make much more sense to me if i were sober.

Thanks for trying though lol

This shit been picking up towards the seemingly end of it's life, eh? Genuinely want to read everything over from the beginning to get the full scale of everything or just keeping on from this point is good?

I like that marley has their own eren. it's kinda freaky comparing "I wanna exterminate the titans" to "I wanna exterminate the eldian race". And it contrasts heavily with Eren's new attitude towards the situation. "if we kill them all, will we be free?" Heavy shit.

there's some stuff that definitely takes on a different tone on a reread. You don't NEED to but it's interesting.
