Am I the only one that thinks using stencils, patterns, or straight edges to draw with is less genuine?

To me it makes the art far less meaningful when a person can't be arsed to learn to draw a straight line or a circle. And even if it took them years to master a straight line, the imperfections of a person's ability is what defines the character of their style.

So many hacks these days taking short cuts for a quick buck. It seems like art is becoming less and less about expressing yourself and more about pandering a product to the masses. Pathetic.

I agree with you on the whole its about creating a product type deal insta-artists etc but when it comes to using a ruler to get straight lines or a protractor for circles etc i disagree with you.

Sometimes you gotta use a ruler or protractor, i mean kandinsky used a protractor and ruler and pretty much every one does, you need tools to assist you in expressing yourself and so a ruler isnt any different than a paint brush.

Ive been caught out before which ended up with the work becoming something i didnt want it to become and made it look amateurish (pic related) and so something which i sunk a lot of time and energy into basically became an "untitled" which i havent even bothered hanging on the wall yet.

I don't know anything about art. I've never even posted here before OP. Why are you asking me? Idk it sounds a lot like using auto-tune in music, in that, in the quest for perfection a lot of character is lost.

I can't draw for shit and I would really like to learn to do I can produce my weird visions and psychedelic thoughts.

I downloaded drawing with the right side of the brain.I got up to the part where you draw the picture upside down then my computer died.

Now I only have my phone so I want to actually go out and buy some books.

Any way on top of that even that book seemed a little advanced for me.I found drawbox but id still rather have a physical book.

Pic related it's my drawing from that book.(looks barely anything like me)

I would suggest just drawing whenever and whatever you can. People assume it's a skill you're born with. Maybe that's true I dunno but for most people it seems to just be a matter of practice, practice, practice. Actual classes and personal input will be much better than a book but if that's not possible just draw. Keep on drawing and don't let that shitty voice in your head say it's no good.

also, check out your local thrift shop for design books. I much prefer looking at line drawings for inspiration over technical 'how to draw' books or full-color paintings/photos. I have a few of these Dover publishing books, and they're all really great to get for ideas. at least for my style of drawing.

So, I want to get a Tattoo for years now, and I finally got a motive.

Everything you perciee changes the way you percieve things, and by percieving things you change the way the things are.

This is consistent with my worldview, schientific and philosophic.

Can anyone draw a better Version of that Tattoo? Or is it fucking stupid and I will hate it in a few years?

OP you should find a good tattoo artist and have them do this for you, not us. Go to a tattoo artist ask the what they want and they will draw up a sketch for you, if you like it, great, if you dont, great they can try again or you can find someone else.

You want to find a tattoo artist that refuses to do other peoples artwork and only does their stuff, the difference being they will care most about the end result because it is a reflection of their work as a whole.

Nigel Nungerdune - Thu, 03 Aug 2017 20:03:42 EST ID:svSzGJtH No.52217 Ignore Report Quick Reply
that could be made into a cool tattoo. here's a big tip though - just because it's a good painting/drawing does not mean it will automatically make a good tattoo!
most people think you can take any image into a tattoo shop and they will magically be able to make it work, failing to take into account the differences between the human skin as a medium as compared to paper/digital.
many tattoos will look cool at first but if not put on by a capable tattooer, it WILL look like shit in a few short years.
do yourself a favor, do some research, find the most legit tattoo shop you can, and speak to the artist there. most respectable tattooers will give you advice about what will make a solid tattoo that lasts and still looks good in 10 years, as long as you are open to learning and don't try to tell them how to do their job.
many tattooers are stoked to do custom pieces for people, but make sure you let them do their thing - if the artist isn't stoked about the artwork they're putting on you, you will both most likely be unsatisfied with the end result.

ive seen this countless times in tattoo shops - people come in with a very particular idea, shove their phone in the artist's face and ask them to "do this please". when the artist explains to them why the design would need to be changed a bit to make a solid tattoo, most people don't seem to listen and just say "yeah but i want it THIS way"
sorry for the rambling post, but seriously there are so many tattoo shops who don't give a fuck and will happily give you a shitty tattoo for your money, but if you take the time to talk this over with an artist who cares, you will walk away with a rad piece based on your vision.

I've had two ideas. One is just getting some neat looking plant tattooed on a leg. My other idea is to just have one of my arms totally covered in fairly random stuff. I'd mostly just tell a tattoo artists, put whatever you want on here and see where it went.

So I made some Scotch eggs about a week ago. They all came out fine and perfect, except for the very first one that I tested. The egg was totally cooked, all the cheese was melted, and the majority of the sausage was cooked brown. But there was, I guess, I decent sized red spot. I decided it was fine. I just put it in the microwave for a bit, and then ate it.

There were five more eggs after that. Four of my friends ate one each, and all of them are fine. I ate the last one, which was perfectly brown.

But anyways, I've been shitting my brains out for like three days. When will this end? Before the shitting I spent a whole day just laying on the floor in pain. I feel a lot better but, you know, still shitting out all of my liquids. I've been drinking Gatorade, I guess it helps.

I'll post a picture of the good egg from my phone.

Modern pork is very unlikely to have trichinosis, the main culprit in causing us and our ancestors to be warey of pork. Pork is now so safe because of the updated technology and medical knowledge. I've even read reports that it's perfectly safe to eat pork medium rare now. I personally cook it through because that's just the taste i prefer in my pork.

I don't have those shelves like those in a studio classroom.

>Selling non-commissioned art is disingenuous at best.
Not really sure what you mean but maybe I know the feeling you're describing. The idea of trying to sell my art makes me uneasy, as it's all a very personal process. But I know that great work comes from a place like this and I happily buy art from friends knowing that they aren't commissioned for me specifically.
If someone wants to give me money for something that I worked hard on, and they'll genuinely appreciate having it, that's pretty rad and seems like a balanced trade.

I've never heard of Van Gogh,Picasso or Salvador Dali only making comissioned art. We all can't have our Peggy Guggenheims or Medici's.
