Pencils for artsy activities by Samuel Chundlewedge - Sat, 11 Mar 2017 09:44:47 EST ID:yt2tS6SF No.51802 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Okay, so i'm getting into drawing with actual physical pencils instead of a tablet.
I go to a website, start browsing and am suddenly faced with a shitload of choices of pencils and markers.

This example here is drawn with your everyday pen stolen from an office.
I like how it feels.

What do you prefer/recommend?

These aren't very practical, when it comes to that obviously

I like mechanical pencils, particularly if they have a nice weight to them. I've been using these pentel 'graphgear' .9mm pencils for a while, and it feels weird to use anything else. i kinda stress out if i want to draw and only have a lesser, plastic or wood pencil but i digress.
seems many people use wood pencils of varying hardness for shading and such, but i just like to pencil in lines before i ink them, and can get a good shade going with the mechanical pencil anyway.
feels good man.

is a website that uses an algorithm to put your choice of image (A) in the style of image (B)

In this picture I used an anime girl for (A) and a dollar bill for (B)

FAQ:
>Does it cost money?
Not unless you want your image done in 15 mins or less. It =IS= free but takes approx. 5 hours due to the large amount of people using the service for free. There is also a watermark when you are done, but i shooped it out of pic related.

>Will this replace artists in the future?
Not even close. The algorithm is pretty much only useful for making concepts to work from and "I wonder what x would look like mixed with y"

>Is there a limit to how many you can process at once?
Nope! I literally have 64 images of asuka from evangelion to be processed in 64 different styles (to be completed in roughly 4 hours 33 mins) which I will post when completed so as to give a better idea of how this site can ideally be used.

Gonna be honest, never been a fan of skimpy outfits unless done well.

I don't know what character this is. Like, what role does she hold in the RPG? When designing characters, you have to tell a story with their body language, their actions, their clothing. It's not only skimpy, it's a confusing message.
Say if there were slightly more clothing (just slightly you don't have to change everything), and an addition of another piece of armour or a weapon belt, that would tell more. Accessories are your friend. So far, I'd guess that she was from a desert climate? And that's me pulling straws, with the neck that could be used to cover the face, and the sandy and muted colours.
I like assymetry, and I like what you did with the leggings/arm. You've got potential here, and I think if you put a bit more time in it you could come out with a super solid character design, but imo right now it's lacking a little.

can someone help me understand this loomis plate? I made my own copy just to try to wrap my head around it.
I'm not usually really meticulous about this kind of thing but loomis books have been really helpful so I want to understand.
I get that the head is 3 and 1/2 units high, and 3 and a half units wide including ears,
but he loses me when he says "three and one half units from tip of the nose to the back of the head"
does he mean the exact back of the head as in parallel to the eye?
the numbers on the plate don't seem to make sense either, the numbers I have circled on my right plate
seems to coincide more with what the text says, like he doesn't make any mention of the numbers 1-5 across
the browridge and how to measure that. the line placement in relation to all the features seems like a really useful tool
for measuring things but
I need to understand the methodology. halp, please.

I think hes talking tips yeah? like tip of the nose is the furthest out tip and so is back of the head, so the neck should never be parallel with the back of the head.

But if you take note of the differences between yours and his is yours is more square, where as his is more fluid and circular, although its in a square it doesnt mean you need to do everything straight, if you draw a circular line from the tip of the nose it should reach the perfect part for back of the head, see how they did it in the page you posted? how its circular?

Anyways hope that helps??
