The only thing that stands out to me is the positioning of the sword. If she's supposed to be holding it straight up-and-down, with a 90-degree angle to the ground, the tip should be much further out from her foot. Try making a background layer and drawing a straight line where her spine is, and then where you want the sword to run parallel to it - then you can lasso that mafacka and nudge it into place!

But then, I can also see how you might be trying to make her upper body pop out, sort of like her feet are the point on a triangle whose flat end gets wider as it goes toward the viewer. Still, something feels off - the sword may just need a little moving in that case.

How do you usually handle outlining? Do you have any other finished paintings I can see? Here's a quick pic I drew up of a character I'm designing (not her final outfit, but was going more for body structure practice). Something about the way I've been drawing since childhood has conditioned me to outline everything and color within, but I rarely can make super neat and clean lines - so I've been experimenting with rough, sketchy-looking ones like in this picture. Is this a road to ruin, or can I make something out of this method? Or should I just try to paint without lines at all? I'm wanting to launch a comic, so simple lighting without detailed blending would be ideal.

One more thing!

I use Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 6, primarily. I haven't actually drawn or painted in Photoshop in a long time. Have you ever used ADSP? It's very affordable, so you can own it legit for cheap. As a consequence, it lacks layer masking and a few other nice PS featuers, but it has a great rotation mechanic that lets you spin the canvas around by touching the 9 and 0 keys. It's also got a handy library of Copic marker colors for quick use, and a generally good pencil tool.

Any of you guys do chalkboards?

I've been doing the upcoming shows every week at a local bar for the past few months. I think they're shitty drawings but I get a lot of compliments so that's cool.

My girlf took a pictures of a couple so I thought I'd share them with you.

Also, I'm doing next week's tonight, any suggestions/requests?

It is a pretty sweet gig. There are other places in town I might be able to do this at and actually get paid, but this bar is my home base so I do it for beer. If you're of age and an artist you should bop around to the local bars and keep an eye out for chalkboards. Propose a deal like mine then maybe you can get drunk for free while displaying your art for tons of people to see.

Brass and/or Copper Effigy by Ernest Sipperchure - Mon, 26 Oct 2015 23:51:29 EST ID:eh8HBHl/ No.49930 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Hello /ART/, It's been a very long time since I last posted on here, so please forgive me if I mess anything up...
I recently purchased two small, brass (or copper), horse-like figurines from a small estate sale. I myself have a degree in anthropology/archeology and feel as though these pieces may have historical and/or cultural significance, but do not know where to start in regards to research. Both of these figurines seem very old based upon their patina, and each features a square hole on their underside.
My question to you is this: Has anyone ever seen anything like these? Are they some type of effigy or ceremonial item? Can anyone identify the type of animal these items portray? Any help would be greatly appreciated even if they do turn out to be simply junk. ( I also posted this same thread on /HIS/ in hopes of help from any historians)

Ok more photos is better, but still won't really help me ID this. What i can tell you is that they're definitely cast bronze or maybe brass.

Are there any obvious tool marks, on the outside or inside? They could give clues if these were finished by hand or with power tools.

Obviously any maker marks or symbols would help narrow it further, but i'm sure you know that already.
