Anyone do cool video stuff? Started experimenting with codec errors awhile back and got into doing trippy abstract stuff.

>gopro armed robbery trails (rly good on acid)

>too high and paranoid walking outside sketch

>Infinitely Mirrored Thighs in 3D anaglyph I don't own 3D glasses :(

Apart from some assembly in aftereffects, most things I do with quicktime 7 exporting, VLC, and screen capture software. Shits powerful.

export a file as avi with 256 colors, open in VLC 1.1, you'll get random colors every time, repeated exports of the same file with the same settings (3gp and iphone video get good results), playing with VLCs video effects (they stack depending on what order you apply them!) and different color ranges in the Animation codec (vlc has a tough time reading it in all versions), it changes the pixelation pattern if you use this for avi glitch)

different versions of VLC do different things!

literally just fuck around with codec settings and see what happens.

Film Major at an art school learning mainly about editing + programs, got into trippy music video type stuff the last year, found out about New Media works, saw all these other codec I'd never used listed and decided to start fucking with the dials and buttons to figure out how to manipulate how fucked the files look.

Glad you made this thread. Love this kind of stuff.

Here's a glitchy video I did using the movie Altered States and some VHS Head. Really happy with how it turned out, like later in the video, the song matches up with the visuals pretty well.

Not my stuff, but a few guys I want to recommend, because I feel they deserve more attention:

I'm strapped for cash as rent is coming up and I still am looking for work. Don't want to ask someone to help.

I was thinking of going on fiverr and offering to stick and poke tattoo your initials on my bicep and send the video.

I can probably fit a whole bunch if I poke tightly. I can always just tattoo a thick black stripe over the area later.

Horrible idea or just a bad one?

Art is BAD in the West.

It was only last century after the second World War that NY, NY was crowned the cultural center of the world having replaced Paris, France.

Now our escapist art is two hours of pretty CGI you can practically talk over.

It's not that we don't have great art and great artists; We may even still have the greatest.

But our people are fat, retarded, facebook addicts who are dumber than their phones.

Who is going to save art? Which direction will art inevitably take next? When will we see the next cultural explosion? Might it have something to do with the internet? Is art is purely memetic now? Should we be looking at neural programming as a medium?

Do you really think mainstream entertainment after World War II was all artsy stuff yo find in museums today? Most people back then didn't give a shit about fine art, just like now.

just because the average is two seconds doesnt mean that people look at paintings for two seconds. what more likely is that they skip or only glace at many paintings they find uninteresting and spend longer time looking at a few. but yea, many people go to muesums just because its a thing to do.
care to tell what you are writing about? i often find that what i like about an artwork isnt something i would put down in words, someone said thats like dancing about architecture.

I work at a one of the few remaining free art museums in the US and you can always tell which patrons are actually interested in art and which aren't. I'd say it's one in five. Most patrons are families with children, groups of old people (who are usually the most likely to touch art), and young people looking for a cheap date.

Of course I doubt it's much different than past generations.

Body Construction - Where to Start? by Sophie Turveyfoot - Tue, 12 Apr 2016 14:52:50 EST ID:lqrJ6tUX No.50547 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Hey guys,

So after a ~15 years hiatus I'd like to start drawing again.

Among other things I'd like to be able to draw the human body without it looking weird, basically. I have Google'd and YouTube'd it of course, but I still don't know which technique(s) would prove to be the most useful.

Some look too incomplete for me. E.g. I don't know how to properly draw muscles around a twig of an arm since I suck at muscle anatomy too, so I don't see that much of a point there.

Others seem to want you to learn every bone and muscle present in the human body which seems like overkill, especially at this point for me.

Some shortcuts to that, like the use of more complete shapes that do have some density (instead of basically straight lines and circles) would be of much help, I think.

What resources would you guys recommend?

Thank you in advance!

only way to get truly good at drawing people is through rigorous study, whatever method you end up choosing. Drawing from life is IMO the best option, since you're actually studying, a real live human body. There are often free or cheap figure drawing sessions at art centers or schools in most major cities, look it up in your area.

Studying anatomy may seem like it's unecessary, but its the only way to really understand what you're drawing and what's going on. If you don't know what muscles are under tension in a particular pose, how are you supposed to portray them accurately in the context of your image?

Basic constructions are a good way to start, especially if you're not comfortable with a pencil yet. If you have solid drawing fundamentals, then I'd highly recommend drawing from actual people, even if you just draw a friend sitiing there. Drawing from life has no equal if you want to learn to draw realistically.

don't symbol-draw, draw what you see and not what you think you see.

i experience these great dreams and beautiful thoughts, but i feel like they are not *mine* and when I sit down to draw, it's like i am being cut off. what is holding me back, what do you do when you have creative blockage?

/qq stuff warning, Everyone got that problem from time to time. For me it got out of control in past few months. Normaly I would take it as a short mind weakness but lately It's just miserable. I used to be happy when I drew, but almost all of if is gone. The feeling of frustraion is dominating my whole effort to create something. The door once open, are now closed. The fun, zoning out and acomplishment are no longer there, creation just feels unwanted and empty. I feel like I lost that spark which dwells in subconsciousness.

try drawing a line or shape that youve never drawn before (feels new to you) and extrapolate. this is a lot of fun for developing abstraction. studies are always good practice too- maybe emphasize some element of what youre drawing like lighting, composition, color, texture, etc
