I can't say how long they these pictures took, I haven't timed myself. All of them so far have used reference photos.

Here's a closeup photo of a charcoal drawing I made last year. I haven't been messing in Photoshop recently. I've been rummaging through my art supplies and have been doing watercolors lately, but as of right now I have none of those to share.

Much appreciated. I've done a little more work on her eyes. My wife has a slight asymmetry of features, as do we all I think, and it's really difficult to capture it accurately.

I really love this painting, it looks great

I have a question, and I am not saying this to be mean or anything, but does your wife have facial paralysis or something? She looks beautiful. I am asking because I knew someone who was paralyzed on one side of their face, and that is the kind of asymmetry I was reminded of.

Nah, no facial paralysis. Just a very slight asymmetry of features, and as the weeks go by and I look at the painting I realize I've over did it. It's a bit discouraging, but I try to think the next canvas will be better. Thanks for your input.

Honestly you shouldn't be too discouraged, it looks great. Your wife is very pretty and she will probably appreciate your effort. I think that "over doing it" isn't bad. Your perception is a valid one, and maybe makes it more sentimental.

Here's a recent proportional study from one of my sketchbooks. It's based on various anatomical references. There's probably plenty of inaccuracies in the image but I've been trying my damnedest lately to get back into serious study. Tonight I've been working on a lot of digital no-reference thumbnail figures, with a focus on proportional accuracy in various poses. If I finish filling up the page I'll share it.

I use Paint Tool SAI version 1.1.0 and an old stable version of Open Canvas, version 1.1. Open Canvas 1.1 is interesting because it can allow users to paint on the same canvas in real time using an internet connection. But from what I remember it was a pain to get working properly. It can also import "event files" which are files that "replay" the creation process of an image stroke by stroke. As for Photoshop, which I used to use a lot in the past, I haven't been using it recently.

Here's some (rather mediocre) digital sketches of faces, each drawn at different times as I became more acquainted with the graphics tablet. My wife recently borrowed one from a friend, and it's been years since I would use an old Graphire 3 daily. Trying to power through creative block as of lately.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I've got a whole package of Loomis ebooks handy. I've browsed through them off and on over the years, but never committed myself to seriously studying them, unfortunately. They're just so full of a lot of information that it's rather overwhelming. Maybe someday. Loomis was one of the major contributing figures that got me out of that "anime/manga esque" drawing phase during my early teenage years. Not to shun anime or manga or anything. Just sayin'.
