What is your opinion when people say "let's agree to disagree" after they asked for your opinion on a topic??

usually it means they can't be bothered to have pointless arguments.

Well, I know what it means. However, what bothers me about it is that asked for my opinion and pointed out the flaws within the topic without giving me any feed back only too ask "why" most of the time

So, they asked for your opinion, they didn't like your opinion, and then they tried to shut down the conversation?
What topic did they ask you about?

They probably thought there might be something to discuss, and then when they heard your ideas decided that your point of view is too dissimilar or polarized to have reasonable or productive discussion.

It means they know they can't change your mind because they're either too stupid or just wrong so they "agree to disagree" so they get to save face without being wrong about anything

I find agree to disagree statements arise when both parties run out of facts to justify their position, leaving the arguers at an impasse.

its just a copout, regardless of whos right or wrong, its a polite yet sarcastic way to end the conversation. always pissed me off though. id just say something like "nah, get back to me when you can prove me wrong." thats assuming youre talking about anything real and not something subjective like taste in music, in which case opinions cant be facts and its alright to agree to disagree.

That's what I think. An argument is like a battle. If you attack without being certain of victory, you do more damage to your own position.

its simply this, and if you think otherwise youre just a contrary individual who simply cannot stand the thought of not "winning" and argument. maybe they were hoping for a discussion - you gave them an argument. so they essentially say "whatever theres no point to this, conversation over"

which is what i say. because i dont like the way "agree to disagree" sounds

you sound like an individual who simply cannot stand the thought of being contradicted so you end a "discussion" before any possibility of getting fucking rekt.

Have you never had a conversation with someone so entrenched or extreme in their beliefs that you didn't feel like arguing was worth your effort?

well arguing is a bit of a hobby of mine so yeah ill keep up the back and forth til the cows come home. thats just me though. i understand just giving up or changing the subject with someone who is absolutely implacable, or if they are becoming visibly upset, sure, move on. especially if they are a friend, you dont need to burn that bridge over petty shit.

To answer your question. I teach a learning development class for a company that needs a months worth training of material (heath care related). The topic is knowing your class base on their resumes, basically pre judging people base on their work history. For me at least, it was that people with 3 or more jobs in a span of 2 years is a red flag for inconsistency. She didnt think seem to think because it could be a lot reasons and basically was giving the whole shit show base on a TED Talks video she saw and presented to us as feedback.
