oh yeah I heard a whole story about that shit

they call it the "brain drain" or something buzzwordy like that but basically what it is is the federal government of the USA is having an insanely hard time getting people to do tech jobs for them because their pay is not very competitive with Silicon Valley tech jobs and most tech workers don't wanna take that many drug tests

"brain drain" is an old buzzword. Older than some of the posters here and I don't year mean the 18 year old senors. It's usually an international effect where educated people move to richer countries, often they can earn more money in work they're a bit overqualified for in those places than proper work at home.

Most western care systems includes a lot of African nurses as (health) care assistants (which is 2 steps down from a junior nurse). Now they are really well qualified for the job they do, but their nursing qualifications aren't quite accepted around here. But even though they are earning 10K/year less than a nurse if they live thriftily after a few years they've saved enough money to buy a house back home, and they do, and go back to being a full nurse. Our system wins because we get extremely high quality care workers. They win. Their home country does not. They lose talent for a few years and said talent has done much less for development than they could have back home.

And how many hackers are fundamentalist libertarians who would never work for the state? It's a decent proportion from what I've gathered.

>Could use a compass to navigate on mars.
I'm not going to google that because I think I know the answer.
Mars has weak magnetic poles it's one of the challenges if we ever decide to create an atmosphere on mars because the atmosphere would evaporate quickly (due to lack of magnetism) so you'd need some goliath of a machine producing tons of c02 (which would be first ingredient at terraforming anything) to override it.

Pic related.
