Tell me about your living situation, particularly if you live in shitty conditions. I'm curious just how bad some of us have it, and which of us wins the "worst squalor" ribbon. Things like shitty rotted trailers with big holes in the floors, living with a crazy family member that hoards garbage or being destitute and forced to live in a rundown slum. Post pictures if you feel up to it.

your pcs hardware will have a shorter lifespan because all those books on your tower are contributing to extra heat.

I don't have any pics of this but here's how i lived

I used to live in a basement suite where i just didn't give a shit and played pc games every non-working moment except to cook chicken tendies and smoke weed. I worked full time and would often pick up snacks on the way home from work so eventually wrappers and cups and shit would pile up on the desk so I'd move it to the floor.

After about a year the kitchen was basically unusable because i just left pots and pans and oven trays and shit. I had a path to the door, the toilet, and my bedroom from my PC and the rest was filled with garbage...... and dead crickets and other dead insects.... I forgot to mention I had a bearded dragon for a time and those fuckers eat a lot of crickets.

My door to the outside world was in my living room on shitty wooden floors. My door had a gap about a quarter inch on the bottom so spiders and bugs and shit would crawl in, big assed wolf spiders that lived under my couches would consume and discard the feast of bugs in the corners.

So no there were no piles of bags of trash or rooms filled with bottles like on Hoarders but I was basically a hoarder lite.

I was obviously unfit to care for the bearded dragon and gave him away.

Oh jeez. I just moved a year ago which coincided with a full blown, down and out spiral into alcoholism. I have piles of bags and boxes that are yet to be unpacked. One room smells pretty funky because it's too cluttered to vacuum (don't wanna suck up any of my treasures) and has not been in all this time. It's also full of old beer cans. I swear this will all change once I go to rehab.

I like the mug of beer on the coffee stand/table(s)? Was that deliberate for the picture, or did they just happen to think they should randomly take this picture as they were walking back to drink their mug of canned beer?

The coffee tables are probably the worst part. Why have two tables? Why not just one larger table? Are they often separated to allow for use by the individual couch locations?

My apartment isn't that big, a normal coffee table would take up too much space, the space between the TV and couch is like 2 by 3 metres. Having two small ones is pretty useful as they're easy to move around for whatever reason (guests, floor excercises, cleaning)

Dunno about the beer it's a pretty old pic I took for something else.

Just get some kind of soap for cleaning floors. There should be certain kinds made for ceramic surfaces. I would imagine an oil based soap would be best, nothing too caustic. It'll probably be concentrated, so you dilute it with water. You fill up a bucket (or just the sink) with water (I find hot water helps), add some of the soap to it. The ratio of soap to water is important. It should say on the bottle water ratios are best for cleaning different surfaces. For countertops, you'll want more water. For floors, you'll want more soap. But you definitely don't want too much soap, or else it'll be sticky when you finish. That can be fixed by just mopping/wiping again with pure water, tho.

Once you've got your bucket/sink full of soapy water, you just dip your mop in there, swish it around, ring it out just a bit so it's not just a fucking waterfall, then apply it to the floor. Rub it back and forth or in a circular motion. Obviously you'll want to be careful as you scrub not to abrade the ceramic. After a few square feet of this, you dip it back in the soapy water, swish it around, ring it out a bit, the back to mopping. Since it's been so long, you're going to want to drain the water probably several times before you finish, whenever it gets really dirty, and mix up fresh soap-water.

But before you even do that, you should take a broom and either a dustpan or a vacuum (upright, hand vac, a shop vac with the hose would be best), and clean all the floors. Before you do that, I'd get a feather duster (not an actual feather duster lol just like one of those artificial ones, you know) and take care of the walls, ceilings, furniture, fixtures, etc. because the dust and cobwebs will get knocked onto the floor.

So dust first, sweep second, mop third. Then just take some glass cleaner to the windows and your house should look pretty fucking spiffy. Depending on the size, this could take 1-3 days. I recommend stimulants and music.

Music makes everything better! Also clean the surfaces with a sponge first, a good wipedown. And since you're sweeping you don't have to catch everything from the surface into your hand. Also something zen about cleaning is to pay attention to your posture while sweeping and mopping and do meditation: allowing thoughts to come to mind, then letting them go, until you're not thinking of anything, and just focusing on what you're doing and how your body is positioned and how it feels while you're sweeping and mopping. With music cleaning can actually be a really therapeutic and enjoyable experience.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I should be getting released tomorrow cause I start a new job on monday, like the first big opportunity i've had. I spent 3 days in the ICU which was HELLA nice and the staff was more attentive (obv). The food is ok but I'm having to learn how to stab myself with needles every 4 hours cause I got type 1 diabetes (likely from my shitty mutt genetics).

It was insane man, imagine running until your lungs collapse, and then run some more. The pH was literally acidic.

I actually got covered with insurance from that new job I start. Good thing I did the paperwork early or I'd be up shit creek. normally it takes 30 days to activate but I finished the onboarding process over a month ago and straight up paid the first months deductible payment out of pocket.

Gotta admit that overall I'm feeling WAYYY mo better. Also got a little fentanyl that first day to help me not writhe in my own skin. Still all bruised up cause my veins kept collapsing when they were stickin me.

Type 1 is a genetic aut-immune disease you just suddenly develop. But it usually occurs in children or babies and carries for life. Is what the designated diabetes educator said.

Truth is I realize now that I'd been feeling sick for months. After every heavy binge drinking sesh I was taking longer to recover from the hangover but thought I was just getting older and unable to handle my liqour as much. Furthermore knowing how I feel now, compared to how I felt even through the last year, it's pretty easy to recognize that I was suffering untreated, though no where near as severe. Sometimes I'd bust out in a cold sweat even in an air conditioned room because I was getting hypoglycemic and hadn't eaten anything over a 16 hour shift, act a little stranger than normal and have weird thoughts out of nowhere. Start having intense headaches and body odor was smelled sweet like wild onions. On that note every person i've ever cum in the mouth of has always said it was sweet

Yeah when I saw "type 1" I thought oh shit, that's the bad one. If it was type 2, that'd actually be good news, because it'd mean that lifestyle change would probably cure it or at least bring it within a more normal range. But with type 1, man good luck because you're gonna have to manage that for the rest of your life.

My kitchen sink has fucked up plumbing, and simply drains into the crawlspace through a hole on the other side of the wall. That room (storage room) smells like constant mildew/shit/death.

Rats come through that hole in the crawlspace (and others), and we're just completely overrun with rats. Can't leave food anywhere but the fridge, or else the rats will get it.

The roof leaks, and so does random plumbing everwhere. We've got a shitload of roaches. No bedbugs anymore, though.

Tons of gang graffiti on the walls outside. Lots of gangbangers on the block, and there's just a tense feeling certain nights. Then you hear gunshots, and see people running around. It's been a while since there was a fatal shooting, though.

It used to be a factory, and only a couple rooms are heated in the winter. Shit gets cold. Pipes freeze. My roommates absolutely never do their dishes. Never. They eat out most of the time, so it's not outta control. But if I stop doing their dishes, it piles up and feeds the roaches at the sink.

One roommate plays very loud, very shitty electric guitar sometimes. I'd ask him to turn it the fuck down, but I'm scared he'll ask how he sounds. I can't tell the truth.

Landlord is an old drunk who I hate because he's a landlord... but he's actually very chill. Keeps rent cheap, doesn't charge late fees or other bullshit. He doesn't fix things like he should, but whatever. It's a slum.

Good thing about us, though: We keep the homeless fed through the sheer volumes of cbeercans we generate. #latestagecapitalism

I really want to move the fuck outta here.It has a ton of perks I'm not listing, and it's been really great to live here. But I gotta GTFO. Somewhere without rats, and shitty electric guitar.
