I was high and kind of nervous as I bought a ticket for a train home. I felt way off my element. When I asked for the ticket, she asked me "young or old?"

Man. Even though I said I was old because she thought i was a child or something (how the fuck?) I am still shaken by that question, am I truly young or am I rather old? What about you? Young or old?

It annoys me that when they portray furries on TV they always have fursuits totally unlike real ones. I'm not a furry or anything it's just distractingly inaccurate.

crime procedurals are usually better for this, I think because the actual suits are too disturbing for comedy

although looking it up now even that episode of CSI they look more like mascot costumes than proper fursuits

Recently after a gig we played with a marching band, a lady came in and said that all the youth will get ice cream vouchers, but when I got up she gave me a shot of vodka and a sausage.
That's when it hit me that I'm 36yo.

Hell I wouldn't even call a 30-year old a youth. Maybe you louse your youth-hood at like 25. Had a few years of legal access to booze and drowned your hopes and dreams by that time. People stop partying by then too.
Also vodka and sausage sounds like a much better time anyway. Nice lady. Should've banged.

I'm old and after the shit I've done and situations I've put myself in/found myself in, I'm proud of it. To go from holding a dying friend's hand in the back of a truck on the way to the hospital at 21, wondering when I'd be on the other side of the grasp to getting to where I'm at now, I'd be a goddamned fool to want to claim that I'm young.

Why do you think OP was so shaken by that question?

I mean... how old are you?

BTW, nobody cares about your story of your dying friend, and how you held his hand. You're not special. C'mon... I've had ~20 such similar experiences. I'm not even 30 yet. It happens. Stop fancying yourself as some glorious old hero. You're on 420chan, you're maybe 26-35. You're like a web designer or something, and your friend was a heroine junkie, so God chose you. What do you want, a medal?

What upset me is the way this guy (>>4828206) wants to claim he's 'old' now, when it couldn't be more obvious to the contrary.

Sure. I can be empathetic to those kind of experiences. Your junkie/depressed/suicidal/weak friend died young? I can share in your sadness, you can cry on my shoulder, I'm a nice guy, it's okay. But, there's a time and a place. It happened when he was 21? Well, how old is he now? Something about the way this guy delivered it... USED that story to lend validity to his claim of 'oldness'. For what? Implying that he suffered a great pain, while simultaneously congratulating himself. Why? Read it again. It's certainly not respectful of his 'friend's' memory. It's an all-around asshole childish post. He doesn't know a fucking thing. He's not a man. Clearly.

CLEARLY.

Hey, I'm an asshole too. But, at least I'm discreet. At least I'm ethical.

that's how i figure i must be old-- I don't feel like I belong here or should be coming here anymore. was gonna state my age and tell my story, but i can do without having somebody born after 9/11 tell me i'm not a man. so yeah I feel old, even if I'm not chronologically. i only come here out of habit, don't relate to half of you anymore, and feel feelings when I see people get pilloried for being genuine.

mark me down for on the brink of old. times and places like this make me lean one way, but i'm not completely detached from youth culture yet.

I don't get why someone would bother to bring up such an experience, if it was genuinely traumatic.

It seemed to me that his intention was only to flaunt it.

Perhaps it wasn't so traumatic to him. Perhaps, to a 21-year-old male, to witness a death is a gratifying experience. To have survived where your peers could not, is a sense of victory. This poster was 'proud' of that feeling. That's why he brought it up. Because, he's sick. As all males are. But, he doesn't know it yet. Therefore... he is still, in my book, a child.

MIght as well while I'm here: 35, Iraq War veteran (combat vet, no fobbit), stopped getting carded young because I looked old, and never offended to be asked. I keep up with youth culture and all culture because, thanks to my service, I'm all gimped up and have nothing better to do most of the time. Frankly, "young" or "old" you're all children in my book. I'm happy that, regardless of details, what anon went through with his dying friend turned his life around or at least he survivied his shit and is better for it. I lost two friends on one day around that age so whatever the circumstance I can relate to the fact that that type of shit will age you. Don't care what anybody here says about me or this post. I know where I've been and what I've done. Just hope that, no matter how old or young you are or feel, you all recognize life is short and we're in it together.

You're right, I took it too far. The mention of 9/11 hit very close to home for me. I'm sure you can understand. I'm not in the habit of speaking on such things. Nor should anyone be. I criticize out of love for my fellows. I try to anyway. Carelessness and idiocy are quick ways to die. But, I love peace, I love my family and friends. And, I fear for the stupid young kid who is just browsing a site like this one... because he's too terrified to step outside his front door.

I mean you said your piece which was fine by me, but then people started dogpiling on him and that little anecdote wasn't even worth notice much less mockery. Thanks for that. I know not everybody here is a big fan of the occupation or campaign so I usually keep a lid on it to avoid kicking off anything, but that's a cool way to start my day.

I'm still a child even after my best friend blew up outside samara in '07. It's weird because I'm now way older than he was when he passed, but he still feels older than me?

Haha and I'm 10 years older than him and my big brother died at 19 in war but he's still older than me, he never stopped growing; he's inside me, in my mind and he ages with me.

i like you, you dont seem to be the 'hurr murrika number one best like it or geeeet out' with a massive kitted pickup adorned with ar-14 stickers that a lot of army and marine vets in my area turn into. Much respect, and indeed thanks for doing a dirty, dangerous damaging job so i can sit on my ass and smoke weed.

really dossles my jambos to know that the US can basically roflstomp any third-world backwater it wants and this sort of low-intensity warfare/world-poliicing has become so common that we don't notice it on a day-to-day basis.

directly alluding to the Roman Republic in the constitution and ending up with a Roman Imperium is ironic as all get out I tell ya hwat

I mean, that is a really retarded thing to imply so don't be mad for getting called out on it.
