Long time user of benzos, im here a lot and i always give the same advice. Don't take benzos long term. But for some people are daily benzos the only thing that works for them?

I'm at a point where im down to taking 20mg diazepam every other day, and it's been that way for a few months. I can never go more than a few days without them cause my baseline anxiety is just too much. My anxiety has been so severe and im suffering so much that it is not sustainable. I wont go into the embarrassing details of my life but im not functioning,

i dont leave the house, have no friends and have shunned family for 6 years, I don't shower or brush my teeth, im too anxious to do anything but sit in a chair and try not to cry. Honestly the only way my life would get worse is if i died, so with symptoms as severe as this, should i be on daily benzos or keep losing this fight of getting off of them? Should i say screw it and start taking like 20mg diazepam a day because nothing else is helping? I see awesome people here taking lots of benzos are living quite successful lives even with daily use.

In case you're wondering I am prescribed escitalopram, trazodone, buspirone, olanzapine, propranolol and have had 3 years of cognitive behavioral therapy. After all this and for me to still be stuck at home it feels like a helpless situation. I may go to the doctor tonight so if you recommend any medications or changes im all ears. Thanks guys.

honestly, if you're anxiety is that bad, then the benefits of daily benzos may outweigh the risks. i'm on 3 * 0.5mg clonazepam daily, and it generally helps me not be paralyzed with irrational fear.
also, you have a doctor who's available during the night? huh?

I said that too, and then 10 years plus down the road it took me everything I had to finally get off them and get my anxiety back under real control, it had totally slid downhill when I was taking my benzo script daily.

I still take them for fun a an occasional free pass these days, but making benzos a daily habit is a mistake for most people. It’s effects long term vs short term are like the perfect example of kicking the can down the road towards a worse fate

Truth, good advice.

Once the honeymove is over you will be so numbed and addicted to a substance that just makes it worse

Give some solid hope but jess after 10 years, how long did it take to get to baseline. W/D from benzos is a different type of hell

How safe is propranolol to take as needed for severe symptoms of physical anxiety? Can i take 30mg one day and 60 the next and not be messing up my heart or something? I'm trying to find ways to deal with anxiety other than benzos

Did you even test it? Propanolol is good for physical symptoms like sweating or racing heart but it doesn't do much for mental part. That's why I stick with alprazolam for life.

Try to get some clonidine. Clonidine works better for me personally. Both only help with physical anxiety.

The best non benzo combo is hydroxyzine+clonidine OR propranolol+ daily buspirone.

Honestly you sound like you could really benefit from some dexedrine (better than adderall side effect wise) to get you going, switching to 10mg diazepam daily, or maybe going as drastic as say 0.25-0.5mg suboxone snorted per day.

Most likely you need an SSRI that's speedy enough to get you involved in life, but not too much that you get overly anxious.

To answer your question, yes it's better to be dependent than to not go outside, fear interacting with people, and "forget" to shower for an entire week because you're disconnected mentally.

Exactly bro, I've been put on propoanol, I've taken time off work, work out at gym so I don't stay in all the time, I do like xanax and diazapam but have only taken them in a small amounts every few weeks I can see how they can be addictive..
