2 forces, force of gravity Fg down and air resistance Fair up combine to form Fnet. Newton's 3 Laws says Fnet = mass * acceleration which is given as a=2m/s^2. So Fnet = 1.0kg * 2.0m/s^2 = 2.0 N. Force of gravity is Fg = mass * g where g is 9.8m/s^2 so Fg = 1.0kg * 9.8m/s^2 = 9.8N. Fg - Fair = Fnet so Fair = Fg - Fnet = 9.8N - 2.0N = 7.8N.

Tell your instructor that you had to go to a chemistry message board in order to even understand his question on Newtonian Mechanics. I think that's unfairly difficult.
