I'm having issues with contamination, specifically green mold. I'm using grain bags, washing hands before inoculation, used the alcohol swabs, flame sterilized the needle etc, but it just keeps happening, are there any more ways to prevent this?

making the spore syringes and the bags yourself or are they bought?
how do you seal the bags after innoculation?

I'm buying them online pre sterilized, the injector ports are the self healing kind

Mold shows up about a day or 2 after the white mycelium starts to spread

Spores were bought online from 2 separate places. Really failing to see how contamination is happening. The first one was typical green looking mold, but my current bag has almost leaf green shit growing in it.

i highly doubt a problem with the grain bag itself.

no experience with bought spore syringes but i also highly doubt a vendor would fuck that up, but it sounds like it.

could you walk me through your procedure a bit more thoroughly?

I wash my hands, place the bag on a tray wiped down with iso, flame the needle and wipe with an alcohol swab, swab the injector port and inject. Don't push the needle very far into the bag.

I'm going to construct a clean air enclosure for my next attempt, and bought the bag from a different vendor. Also using BRF instead of rye.

So after inoculating my 3rd bag in a still air environment, wearing gloves and a facemask, having scrubbed the surfaces I'm working on with iso, flame sterilizing my needle and using a self healing injector port, I've noticed cobweb growing in the 3rd bag.

All 3 attempts have been clean, but contamination still occurs. Very confused as to whats going on, and getting pretty pissed off with it. Any idea whats happening?

obviously you cant state which vendor you bought off but at this point i would consider telling them about your experience. provided youve been truthful in this thread it really does sound like a problem with the syringe altough id expect one particular contam. but then again with mycology one fuck up rarely comes alone.

i cant really give you anything at this point. if you had agar and an sab you could test the syringes yourself

Read about non-sterile mushroom growing technique, given the right environment, the mushroom will have no problem out competing other micro organisms

Sterilize your substrate on your own, it's easy and you can exclude one fuck-up factor out of your equation. That leaves you with the spores, try different vendors and maybe try to get both, syringes and spore prints. You just need one successful run to keep this going for as long as you want to

I tried two seperate vendors for both spores and substrate. Althought I got the spores off ebay so thats probably why they weren't up to standard. Its very hard to find decent vendors here even online.
