Whenever I quit smoking weed after long term heavy use I find that little things will have me literally screaming in rage and breaking things.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Yes. If you want to get rid of it try physical excercises or just let the rage out. If this is not an option then think about something else (for example cats) whenever raging situation occurs

Stop being a lazy fuck, find things to keep your head busy, do exercise, go for a run

Can only agree.
Felt like shit on my second day sober, but then I went to boxing practice and holy shit, just a like 15 minutes in I felt so fucking great. Sparring was great to relieve my pent-up anger.

I've been sober for 86 days now and I'm still mad about it. I think normal anger management techniques apply, deep breathing, counting backwards from 100 or 1000, etc.

Exercise is also a good option.

I think emotional dependence on drugs in general causes severe mood swings when you quit. I've been off Heroin for two weeks and I've experienced fits of rage, smashing and breaking things while screaming after not sleeping for like 3 nights, followed by emotional numbness. I realize that I was never having strong emotions on H and before that I'd use alcohol to numb anything so it's been years since my brain has had to naturally attempt to correct mood, leading to these crazy outbursts. I imagine weed, even though it doesn't imbalance neurotransmitters, has some similar effect psychologically. Unfortunately for us it's a long waiting game and disciplined recovery practices to get the nervous system back to some sort of emotional equilibrium. At least the mania can be fun...

Does the irritability last after you've detoxed completely? It could be that the weed was helping. Personally, it helps whenever I get manic episodes that were an issue beforehand, so I notice my rage getting worse when I stop and the mania returns. Either way, like everyone already said, find an outlet.

I think emotional dependency on weed and h are a little different... I've gotten mean without weed but getting clean off h has lead to complete fucking breakdowns of reality for me
