After looking up my notes I have a strong suggestion that Pregabalin has been cutting down the quality of my dxm visual hallucinations. I'm trying to taper off completely over the next few months, from 150mg twice a day, so if I see a difference I'll report back.

Please let us know!!

I LOVE to take gabapentin with my dxm. It always boosts my cevs on any drug. And I'm pretty sure the two are similar

My thought is that it would cut down the visuals because it's a depressant.

Just cause it's a depressant doesn't mean it might have it's own unique chemistry and chemical interactions!

Ever try mixing opi and diss for example?!?!?????????!!!!!!????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?????!

Yeah. Maybe it does cut it down, maybe it doesn't. I should add that I have demon faces hppd and the pregabalin DEFINITELY increased their intensity. But I figure for dxm pregabalin has a general depressant effect so it would cut down everything including visuals.

Gabapentin is actually on the Wiki list of CYP3A4 inhibitors, so if anything that should increase the effects of DXM. Pregabilin isn't on the list, and it's (ftmp) not metabolised into anything else, so there's not necessarily a reason to think it would potentiate in the same way as Gabapentin, but there's no reason to think that it being a depressant would cut down on visuals. IME downers vs. visuals is a myth, even with /psy/. Benzos, opiates, alcohol. It'll cut back on certain headspace aspects as less and less of you gives a shit about anything, including the trip at hand, but I have never had any downer actually cut off the visual aspect of any drug.

Same here
Gabapentin feels so close to first plateau, more than any other drug

OP here it seems to be working. I'll update across the next few weeks.

Well, this is strange. I have tapered off completely and the visuals were better, but not as good as I expected them to be. I know the half-life of Pregabalin is short, just a few hours, but I think I might still need longer for it all to leave my system.

Also, the character of the whole experience was different, it's hard to place it. There was much more nausea. It might have just been the bad set/setting though. Silly me to do it when its 37 celsius.

I should have mentioned, the first time I used dxm I had only just started 75mg twice a day, and the visuals for my first and second trips were GREAT. As I increased the dose to 150mg twice a day the visuals seemed to get weaker, so thats what sparked this concern in the first place.

Also, eventually I'll get around to taking a recreational dose like 450mg with dxm to see what it does. For science!

I've been having the same problem with gabapentin. No visuals, just fucked up and blurry double vision. The trips are also really incoherent and dysphoric, I get really dizzy, balance is extra fucked up. At least one trip resulted in early stages of serotonin syndrome (wife administered cooling packs and benzos) probably because of P450 enzyme inhibition.

I'm doing a quick taper off 300mg 3 times a day. It's a pretty low dose, so I'm not at any risk of serious withdrawal symptoms, just gonna be anxious as hell. I have to get off it anyway as I've been developing symptoms of diabetes insipidus.

As for those wondering why gabapentin and pregabalin would have this effect on DXM, my only guess is an oversimplication of glutamate's excitatory role in neuromodulation, which any purported inhibitory neuromodulator would counteract. It's unclear if gabapentinoids actually bind to GABA receptors at the synapse. I read somewhere they just increase production of the primary enzyme that metabolizes glutamate into GABA, meaning that feeding yourself more glutamate (i.e. via NMDA receptor antagonism) just gets it metabolized into more GABA, possibly very rapidly since glutamate is a very short-term sort of thing. The could also explain why benzos don't result in the same effects, because they're just binding at the synapse, so you have both glutamate and GABA elevated instead of glutamate being rapidly converted into GABA. No, it's not a great explanation.

Also, why are there so many people on this board taking gabapentin/pregabalin?

I took it for anxiety. It only worked for the first month and when I increased the dose.
