I usually take Xanax and drink water. If I can eat something I like a greasy meal. Or the classic crack open a beer and keep going. What do you do? Any unorthodox methods?

I haven't found any cures besides other substances or time/riding it out.

For me it's all about staying hydrated while I drink. I've downed a handle in a night and not been hungover this way.

hi /drank/, i hope you're all enjoying a great night/morning of drinking! my question is, why do you enjoy being drunk?

I'm asking as a drug addict, a fiend for psychedelics, stims, dissociatives, weed, opiates, even benzos; who doesn't enjoy alcohol and would much prefer to being sober to drinking. i feel stupid when i drink, the joys of life seem dulled, sex is terrible, and i get a hangover rivaled only by mdma the next day. if i was on a desert island with an infinite supply of booze, i would probably be sober most of the time.

so for someone that hasn't yet learned to appreciate the joys of drinking - what are they? why do people find alcohol so irresistible?

Do you ever experience pain in your side after a night of heavy drinking? I thought it was just gas originally but it lingered for a good 24 hours. It seems to be gone now but it kind of freaked me out. I doubt I've been drinking enough or long enough to have caused any real damage but you never know. Is there such a thing as acute liver pain after a drinking binge?

if you ever have acute liver pain there's something really wrong. What you said sounds more like a mild ache. I've experienced this once or twice after a hard night on the juice and I don't think it's a big deal but do take heed to what your body is telling you.

I'm sipping on some Gordon's (australia version) in a G+T with lime now, but it's not as good as the stuff I had at a show last week. That stuff was aromatic, had notes of lime, and the juniper in it was so prominent, really nice finish. I really enjoyed it.

What are some bottles I should pick up to find my gin?

I normally buy Seagrams or Seagrams Lime for because I primarily make cocktails and don't think you really need quality gin for GnTs and greyhounds. Bombay Sapphire and Tanqueray are both solid for more upscale gins though. Beefeater used to be on-par with Seagrams in terms of cheapness but for some reason has gone more upscale over the past 3-5 years or so; anyone know why?

I'm not sure if I'm describing this properly but after the "drunkenness" wears off I don't immediately feel the depressed "hangover" but rather just high blood pressure. This type of blood pressure isn't like that of stims tho (no anxiety, I just feel kinda alert and can't quite sleep).

Alcohol lowers your heart rate and blood pressure, once you stop drinking you get a rebound effect increasing them.

My resting heart rate is in the 60s but when I'm hungover it's 110+

I look forward to this post, as I have high blood pressure, have had it since I was 13, and still have it now at 27, so high bp is a personal condition of mine. I drink a decent bit too of course.

If you're gauging blood pressure from feelings, which it sounds like you might be, you should get a cuff and test it out, or have it tested at the doctors, a friend's place (if they know how to check it), CVS, etc. Often high blood pressure has no symptoms or even paradoxical symptoms (like light-headedness for example, which is usually associated with low bp), so it isn't a good idea to go off of gut instincts.

If I drink a shit ton in a sitting, I'll have a similar experience to what you described OP, and according to Ryan and Howes, boozing like that will affect your heart rate a lot:
>Measures of heart rate variability... [are] significantly related to the amount of alcohol consumed during the last drinking session [1].
It's worth mentioning that when you start drinking, according to the American Heart Association, the immediate effects of alcohol can cause your heart rate to increase slightly by acting as a vasodilator, causing blood vessels to dilate and blood flow to increase. Still, as drinking continues in one sitting, your heart rate will slow like Hannah said.

I hate to be a contrarian, but consuming alcohol raises your blood pressure [2, 3], contrary to what >>276267 says. Light-moderate drinking (defined as up to two drinks a day for men, one for women) has shown a tiny as fuck drop in blood pressure in some cases (2-4mm Hg (millimeters of mercury), but emphasis on tiny as fuck.
>"Drinking too much alcohol can raise blood pressure to unhealthy levels. Having more than three drinks in one sitting temporarily increases your blood pressure, but repeated binge drinking can lead to long-term increases" [2]

Trembling voice, tight muscles, can't go out in public without feeling like I'm going to faint.

It usually clears up after a day of getting sober.

Is Absinthe really that "rad"? Or just pop culture hysteria?

I don't find it that "strong" in my opinion. I think the classic method with water and sugar is pretty mellow. Doesn't get me "drunk" like vodka or tequila.

I'll admit I may have been wrong about absinthe, I'm too lazy to research it if I'm not drinking some but the fact that someone's alias on the internet bothers you so much says more about you than anything else

Pretty sure I remember reading Ugly Muncher or some other namefag saying something similar. I don't for one second think it makes you trip but I'm open to it giving you a different kind of drunk.

That said, I never believe people who tell me that certain spirits get them in a certain way. I know it's fun to think but alcohol is alcohol. Beer can maybe make you sleepier because of metabolic process or something but spirits are spirits and will get you drunk in the same way.

Absolutely. I either sleep like shit or I have such crazy dreams that I am often baffled as to how a brain can come up with shit (seemingly) without any environmental stimulus.

Also I sometimes get shot in my dreams and end up awake but dreaming in what I'm guessing could be called sleep paralysis.

Had a night terror/sleep paralysis the other night after drinking a bottle of wine. Had some fucking demon standing on the foot of my bed and I couldn't move.

I used to get night terrors a lot as a kid but I do still get them after alcohol and opiates, generally I find I've been safe as long as I sober up for an hour or two before passing out.

I had a similar experience. Drank like a 6 pack or something, and then at some point in the middle of the night I heard this whimpering sound and rolled over in my bed and saw a shadowy demonic figure right next to my bed attempting to strangle my dog. Then I had an insane surge of adrenaline and sat boltright up in my bed covered in sweat. And my dog was fucking peacefully asleep.

Most of the time it's just weird vivid dreams and general restlessness though.
