Hey buddy, I got a DUI 5 years ago.

It sucks bro, just do your probation and don't fucking get drunk before seeing your PO.

I'm still paying it off by the way, DUI's are a huge inconvenience but they are mostly a fucking money pit, enjoy throwing cash into the void for years until you've finally paid off.

Don't do what I did, get a lawyer. You're going to pay a shitload either way.

Yep, people do it all the time. Least is make it to your destination without hitting anything, anybody. Get pulled over and go through a lot of $$ time, classes.

Yea just anybody, even say 4 six beers can impair your ability to drive.
Where if you get into an accident, your screwed, if you got into an accident not drinking then likely a ticket at the most.

Just crashed into a guardrail on the way home from work. No snow tires, 20mph, straight road, spontaneous pull to the left, and then I spun into the rail (across the road), bounced around, came to a stop, looked both ways, and kept going. I didn't check the damage because mary was calling me when I got home. Hope it isn't too bad.

Oh yeah RIP OP.

OP here

Im getting a lawyer, and ive been charged with reckless driving and being intoxicated. Next week im going to get the results of my piss test to give my lawyer a heads up that i might actually go to jail., due to the opiates. I figured they would have informed me or questioned me about the drug test if they found anything, maybe they just want to surprise me. im feeling a little more confident about my circumstances, and all i really want is to come home from work and have a drink, but its difficult to get alcohol when you cant drive places.

Better than being dead, or in jail.

I also got a DUI in PA. Just do the ARD program if the narcotics don't show up. As long as you follow every step closely (its a total pain in the dick) you'll be good, and then you can expunge it from your record.

also, don't drink and drive.

NEVER drink and drive. Its not a matter of it being hard or not. If you have a beer and drive, you're basically not intoxicated unless you weigh 90 pounds. If you have 6 shots of vodka, you're not gonna have a fun time, mmkay?

You're totally planning on driving drunk arent you?

Idk I did it as a kid dozens of time, I mean driving drunk not just a few beers
I found it incredibly easy to be safe, my friends were always amazed out steady of a driver I was, no swerving or clipping shit or rolling lights
That being said, unless you are a minor (and even then it'll be shitty) NEVER drive drunk, the one time you think you're being cool and do a rolling stop next to a sheriff and get rolled you'll be very unhappy
Tl;dr I found it easy but it's incredibly stupid

Pretty much this.
I've been good at driving drunk in the past, which equates to being good at one of the most dumb and risky things you can do. I've driven under the influence any drug you could name pretty much, and drinking was easy. But with drinking you could easily be over that threshold where you're drunk, overly confident and acting stupid and bam, you're dead, or bam you ran over someone's grandma or some other cliche but nonetheless horribly tragic shit just happened. It's a very real possibility when you're gambling with something like alcohol and with it's effects on judgement.

No probation, probably spent about $3500 total on lawyer, court fees, and this bullshit SATOP class i have to take which is 10 hours of group therapy a week for 5 weeks.

Is drinking and driving worth it? You tell me. I can get it expunged off my record in 10 years. With no college degree and a DWI on my record i think im just gonna fuck off and join the military when i get this shit out of my car

I'm in PA, got into an accident a year or so ago. Wasn't my fault, couldn't have avoided the shit if i tried.

My question is, what led them to breathalyze you in the first place? Like 0.14 can't be THAT bad seeing as it is under double the legal limit. I mean idk how smashed you feel at 0.14 but it isn't like you were stumbling all over the place right?

In my opinion it highly HIGHLY depends on the person from a pure safety standpoint. And the amount consumed obviously. I will never tell anyone to drive drunk. It is simply not a good idea. However depending on those two variables it can be extremely sketchy or not that bad at all.

Look up the Churchill gene sometime. Alcohol affects everyone differently due to a variety of factors. Genetics, weight, past experiences etc. One man's 6 pack may be another man's 24 pack. Regardless of weight even. Obviously weight has an effect on the level of inebriation from alcohol, but if you took a 120lb alcoholic vs a 300lb lightweight, alcohol will affect them both differently.

I'm not saying laws on drunk driving are too tight, but there are people with DUI's that were probably in almost total control of their vehicle. In contrast to that there are people that would blow under .08 and drive like a stupid fuck endangering everyone around them.

I could say more but it would probably make me look like a cock headto the MADD so i will leave it at that.

Thanks anon, i appreciate it. Everything went smooth. I got ARD, and ill be on probation for some time. I wont be showing anyone this thread other than my brothers here. Im very fortunate. There was upwards of 30 people in the courthouse all for DUI, and some didnt seem to care that much. But i am basically going about my daily life for the next few months, and then ill start the program. Just gotta adhere to the terms of the probation and ill be okay.

No jail, just good behavior. Im going to get evaluated to see if i have a drug and alcohol problem, but despite not being an alcoholic i think i might opt to get the alcohol support for the duration of the program. I want to get the perspective of people that DO have a legit problem and dont have self control. Thats just me.

I've have a DUI before. I would bet that many people on this board have had one.

Here's my advice to you. It's honest and uncomfortable:

You have 2 choices now that you have a DUI. 1: act like a shit head and keep digging your hole or

2: learn to not drink and drive (drink your ass stupid but take the bus that's what I do now)

If you are diligent, your DUI has eaten up about 2 years of your life. In about 2 years you should be about where you were before your arrest. Then another 5 years of so and you can get it sealed / expunged. If that depresses you too much then by all means keep being an idiot, do it again and go to county for a few months, that will cool you off.

Best of luck to you.

I drank about 8 ounces yesterday night. What can i do to flush it out? Im drinking apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and coconut water. I forgot to get cranberry juice, but im drinking cherry juice also. Ive got ONE day to clear myself.

Call me sober, but every time ive read this post i couldnt tell if you were condemning drunk driving or boasting about how you are so intellectually superior you are to me. Being a good driver is one thing. Ive got PTSD from car accidents thanks to other peoples poor driving skills, and the cause of this particular accident is because, god bless his soul, i had a friend switch my tires and put the new ones on the rear, which caused me to fishtail, after admittedly my poor judgment in foot placement caused me to accelerate rather than brake, which resulted in me being impacted by a tractor trailer.

DONT DRINK AND DRIVE! Though, im a fuckin idiot, im almost certain to be a repeat offender. Ive driven whilst intoxicated at least to the point of a .04 recently. Maybe i am an alcoholic. Only an idiot would knowingly risk a SECOND DUI! i once laughed at those ive known to get multiple DUIS. perhaps my arrogance is my downfall. "im too good of a driver to get pulled over". But what ive seen, it doesnt matter how good of a driver you are, one simple mistake can fuck you over.

i have a DUI. nasty fine, a year long driving suspension, criminal record. feels bad.

the first few days really suck. but after a few months it'll just be another thing that happened that one time.

you are very lucky that nobody got hurt. your conscience is clean, you just made a mistake. you should probably consider quitting drinking.

at the end of the day:
1) you are down a car
2) you have a criminal record (but honestly, lots of people have DUIs)
3) your insurance rates will go up (which you can afford if you stop drinking)
4) people know you have a drinking problem

but your life isn't over, it's just extremely bad-feeling right now

Got a DUI a few years ago. I was an idiot. Once was enough and it will never happen again. I got a lawyer which ate three grand of my savings and got off with probation, community service, a mark and .04 restriction on my license which expires this year, and having to go to classes for drug counseling classes for a couple months as well a pay some fines and got my license suspended for 30 days. Big thing is if you get into this situation is get a lawyer, they can save you a lot of trouble. I still got charged, but mine got the breathalyzer reading of .14(.15?) dismissed which helped my sentencing and rushed me through since apparently there was some talk in my state of a change to the law soon at the time of all DUI offenders requiring ignition interlock devices.

Also cops are dicks, the guy said I belligerent to my lawyer when I distinctly remember breaking down and drunk crying on the ride to the police station.
