taste of alcohol by Thomas Smallwater - Sun, 04 Feb 2018 03:10:27 EST ID:+vHttysk No.277427 Ignore Report Quick Reply

I think I just realized I really don't like alcohol, after all.

I've tried a lot of things: multiple kinds of beer (from commercial euro lager to IPA and local "higher quality" stuff), cider, spirits, and I find that I can barely separate the taste: it just feels somewhat tasteless and unpleasant (in the case of beer and hard cider) while making me nauseous with every sip after a while, or is just disgusting when it comes to the stronger stuff. Only alcohol I've enjoyed is some of the lighter and sweeter wines and cocktails that hide the taste of ethanol behind sugar.

I know it's supposed to be an acquired taste... but I don't feel like I'm acquiring anything. Yeah, getting shitfaced with friends is fun, but in that case, I try to drink whatever has the highest alcohol percent in order to get it done as painlessly as possible.

Is it genetic? Is everyone somehow just pretending? I don't understand the relationship of humanity with alcohol. Worst thing is that I'm not even a light drinker: it takes me quite a bit to get dizzy.

For what it's worth, I don't drink coffee either (bitterness is too strong), although I consider that as more of a blessing than anything else. However, I find it easier to taste differences in flavour through the bitterness in coffee than in beer.

Im in the same boat since I turned 21. An alcoholic family member of mine once told me of him sneaking beer at the age of only 9 for just the taste and I could never understand why. I think most alcoholic beverages are poor tasting except for things like cheap Arbor Mist wine and well mixed drinks. To me it /has/ to be an acquired taste or people just wanting the effects. I cant imagine this many people bs-ing saying they love the taste of alcohol lol.

I really enjoy strong wine though, only for the quick relaxation after a long day at work. I am taking after my alcoholic fam member being the only person in my immediate family who drinks often, but I just chill at home and play music lol. you know, its just like smoking pot...I dont think anyone enjoys how much they cough or the taste of the actual smoke, but love the effects thus loving the process of getting high. It is the same for me at least w bud and alcohol.

Have you tried a dark beer? IPAs aren't really a good idea if you can't even stand coffee, and lagers generally are very light and don't taste much. Darker beers tend to taste more though. I never really loved beer until I started drinking darker ones, before that beer was more just something to get drunk on cheaply.

Can recommend Newcastle brown ale, not really dark dark but it's not watery and tasteless yet isn't focused on bitterness. I'd say it's very accessible yet tasty.

And I don't really believe in having an acquired taste. You just find stuff you like and become better at describing why you dislike the things you don't.

Just try to find what fits you and have no shame about it. If drinks is your thing then why not? It's not as simple as just grabbing a beer and some small minded people might look down on you for it, but you could even turn it to your advantage by becoming good at making them, it's like cooking a homemade meal for a girl but instead it's a drink and she'll get slushed and love you for it. Provoke and prod her senses.

Alcohol tastes good if you're an alcoholic. Also it's a carrier of flavour. I had an alcohol free lager the other day. It was awful. Also there are more styles of beer than IPA and lager. If you like coffee at least try a stout.

I'm not too big a fan of beer because of the taste and also acid reflux but yea i do like the taste of alcohol. I drink hard liquor daily and the taste is part of the experience. I think its psychological. Like someone else said, i wouldn't drink it if it didn't get me drunk. I jus associate the taste with what i feel when i drink it

I honestly couldn't even drink liquor almost at all until recently. Beer used to be the go-to but I noticed after I took a T-break from weed for about 2 weeks I could actually drink whisky without gagging and feeling my spit liquefy. Definitely think it's a psychological thing and to me at least smoking weed makes alcohol taste worse. Having the ability to drink with minimal/no chaser if I feel like it and not want to instantly puke is pretty neat

But alcohol tastes great in all of its forms. Try some "ice" beer. It is the closest to water and has a higher alcohol content (really tastes like weird water). Or drink some rum+coke etc. My favorite price range drink is cheap beer. Miller high life, 40oz malt liquor. If you don't love the taste of that then i don't know what to tell you.

>>277521
But you miss some magick doing that

>>277600
Yes. As an added fact my dog used to puke in the car, and we could tell when she was ready because she would drool profusely. At some point i read it is your natural saliva production ramping up to try and basically water down/neutralize the nauseating shit in your stomach.

I've found that most non-alcoholics don't like ice beers, or at least find them less drinkable.

>>277427

OP try making quality mixed drinks at home. For example, I just made a decent mixed drink that I can hardly taste the booze in.

Using 151 rum for minimal rum taste (I've found 80 proof rum to always be more noticeable than equivalent booze amount of 151, yet 190 proof aka 95) everclear always seems to taste like ass in mixed drinks). I measure out one full 1.5oz shot and dump in a mixing glass before adding 3-4 ice cubes, one shot of 15% triple sec, drizzling of grenadine, two original Luxardo Maraschino Cherries (store brand are always crap) and a tad of drizzle from the jar, before pouring the rest as OJ with one lime slice in the glass and another one on the rim (cut into the middle of the slice to get it to fit).

It's so good that it's easy to pour a side shot of 40% rum and use the other drink as a chaser.

Good, OP. Quit trying to put so much effort into figuring out why you can't or don't want to drink like everyone else. It's not worth it at all.

Alcohol is a pretty low tier drug and the only reason so many people do it or prefer it over other drugs is because lots of people have basically lived on it since the middle ages. It just won't be leaving our culture any time soon.

I admit that it can be quite fun on occasion, but there are so many drugs that don't harm me at all that I could do and get much more euphoria and have more fun. Just accept your distaste for alcohol as a blessing and enjoy not being an idiot who drowns their brain, dehydrates the shit out of themselves, genocides their gut fauna, destroys their liver, destroys their heart, destroys their nervous system, and pretty much the entire rest of their body.

Disagree. I've fucked with pretty much everything and the euphoria of a triple shot of gin on a moderately full stomach is pretty up there in euphoric, at least for me. Definitely doesn't touch heavy opiates like Dilaudid or methylated amphetamines or anything, but it's definitely towards the top of the list.

Holy shit lol. Yes everyone wants to act adult and they are just pretending.
>I know it's supposed to be an acquired taste
I mean it is supposed to be but i don't know about that. Man the first time i really drank beer without stealing it i had a keystone from my friends fridge because he didn't want any of them. It tasted like the nectar of the gods.
>However, I find it easier to taste differences in flavour through the bitterness in coffee than in beer.
Man both are easy as fuck to taste the differences. The bitterness is a part of the taste. Man go get some cheap beer or something that stuff isn't bitter. If that is too bitter then just don't drink.

Really if you don't think the taste is worth the feeling then don't drink. Like fuck dude.

There are only 2 drinks I have tried that won't make me puke:

Moscow mules: Vodka, ginger beer, lime

Jaegerbombs: Jaegermeister, red bull

If you can come up with any others considering what's in the 2 above I'm all ears

Also, I usually take a shot of spirits and then chase it with diet coke...

I really do love the taste of beer and many spirits. Gin being my favorite, drinking it straight just tastes and feels so warm, loving, and northern forest-y, it almost brings a tear to my eye.. I also love bitter things I guess, tasting a really strong un-milked and unsweetened black tea or coffee definitely activates some dopamine in me, it's similar to an orgasm but maybe 1/8th of the feeling.

I've heard Autistic people often have trouble accepting new tastes and sensations even into adulthood, so that's a possibility, but there's no reason it couldn't be genetic.
