This is the original dance scene with the original song. As you will notice, the dancing actually syncs up to the music. When Robot Chicken lost the rights to the song, they released a shitty, unsynced version with a whole new song. You won't find the real version on YouTube easily as copyrights came down hard.

Hey. I'm making a top down survival horror game, and I would like to have a dynamic text box that displays a bit of information about an object when you roll over certain things, such as a bed. The text box is inside a movieclip, which has code that makes it follow the player round the map, so that the text box is always on the screen.

The problem is that I don't know how to specify the dynamic text box inside the movieclip, in the actionscript of the bed MC when you roll over it.

This is the script on the MC of the bed:

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if(this.rollOver);{
***on this line I need to specify the dynamic text box, which is inside the movieclip***;
}}


I really hope someone can help me, it seems like the solution would be really simple, but I just can't seem to get it. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your code doesn't work. If you wanted to do it the way you wrote, rollOver needs to equal something.

rollOver = hitTest (_root._xmouse,_root._ymouse,true);

AS2 could look like this;

Hey, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask for programming problems but I'll give it a shot anyway.

I'm making a game in which a collision with an obstacle will bring me to a certain frame and stop.
this here is the code that I'm using, for now, it only turns my MovieClip to alpha 20%, and it is working. But what I want is to go to frame 1 and stop instead

it only stops the moving object in it's initial position when I replace ' this._alpha = 20 ' for that line.

this is what i did: _root.obstacle.gotoAndStop(1)
without the second _root at least it does somehting
maybe i did something wrong, but i put this line in



since nothing happens when I put it like this

Recently I've been programming a flash game.

My game is pretty simple. There is one square, which can be moved by the arrow keys, and an array of circles that move around in random directions. If you touch a circle, you die.

I am currently checking if the square touches a circle with a for loop that checks every single circle to see if any of them are touching the square. It works fine for now, but it seems like it would be slow if my game was more complex/my levels where larger. Is there a better way to go about checking this?

I've been building a megaman platformer, but I can't seem to get the collision right using

boolean movieClip.hitTest(movieClip);

but sometimes it gives a false positive, or more likely, a false negative. I think if you use bitmapObjects you can do more precise collision detection.

Add a bounding circle around your square (should cover the entire square) and then do a circle against circle collision check between each circle and the bounding circle (you'd have to use math, there are formulas to lookup online). Checking if two circles are colliding with each other is much faster than checking if two bounding boxes are colliding.

Then if a circle is colliding against the bounding circle you can do more detailed collision checking. Check each corner of the square, if a point is inside the circle there is a collision. Also check a few points on the sides of the square.

Don't use bounding box to bounding box collision detection against circles since you can then collide with the circle even though you aren't (you are just touching the bounding box).

.hitTest actually only checks to see if the DisplayObject's rectangle has intersected with the other DisplayObject's rectangle. You'd have to dump and test the full array of pixels of each DisplayObject in order to do a proper collision detection.

I used to do this myself until I discovered someone's done it more efficiently: http://www.freeactionscript.com/2011/08/as3-pixel-perfect-collision-detection/

download the .fla and use his PixelPerfectCollisionDetection class to test for collision detection. You'll have to read through the comments on his code, but it's very straight-forward and easy to use if you're not fucktarded.
