Behring Breivik is the kind of man who would survive well after the Muslims blow everything to pieces.

Yeah. I was just providing links to a couple of commercially available water straws. They are handy, but not new technology...definitely worth carrying in a edc/emergency kit.

Interesting. So, after a little research, I'm not completely right. The commercially available filter straws are .3 microns. This lifestraw is .2. That actually makes a huge difference.

still, a Frontier Pro Ultralight Water Filter and some Katadyn tabs work just as well...and you can actually BUY them, instead of sponsoring them for third world countries. The nice thing about the Frontier Pro is that it can be threaded onto a platypus bottle, 2l soda bottle, or whatever, and used as a gravity or in line filter...toss in a tablet or two, depending on water volume, screw on filter, wait half an hour...drink.

>TL;DR - Environmental and economic armageddon ushers in neo-medieval lifestyle after society crumbles. Oil has nearly depleted and water is scarce.

The year is 2040. The human population on Earth has reached 8 billion and global temperatures have increased by 2 degrees centigrade. Oil reserves are nearly depleted and have become a rare luxury for those who can afford it.To make matters worse, mountain glaciers have melted across the planet, turning streams into dry riverbeds. Water is now considered the most sought after resource.

Most nations in Africa and the Middle East are left in complete ruin following several resource wars which created desolate wastelands stripped of all resources and most vegetation. Sovereign nations in Europe, North America, South America, and the Pacific Islands (Australia/NZ) have completely dissolved, leaving factional nation-states. Urban areas are ruled by corporate entities, old military bases are now fiercely defended by former soldiers, warlords and drug kingpins transformed department stores and shopping malls into heavily guarded compounds and pseudo-democratic militia groups have emerged from suburban neighborhoods in hopes of creating self-sustained villages.

You have:

>a pickup truck with one full tank of gas (suitable for 2.5 days of traveling)
>one duffel bag with enough food and water to last 3 days
>a sleeping bag
>a hatchet

To survive you need to find:

>a continuous source of water (pure or otherwise)
>adequate shelter/safehouse location (temporary or long-term)
>a trustworthy group (IRL friends or united group)
>more tools/weapons
>more food
>at least one hobby to pass the time

How will you survive? Will you hunt & gather or loot & pillage? Will you fight your adversaries or negotiate with them?

If you look at the world around you, you would see "hard" should be replaced with "impossible for the vast majority of the species".

Eugenics GO!

So almost everyone in an ecosystem dies. Okay. This results in two outcomes. First, those that are in favorable habitats will survive, and those who can adapt to new conditions will survive. Humanity has succeeded only because we were more adaptable than other hominids. The ones that had no ''native range'' became modern humans. Humans will survive, the question is in how much diversity? Will it be hundreds of people living in subterranean caverns, or will it be among the asteroids? Hmm, short story ideas...

The people living in cave option actually won't work. We NEED vitamin D. If you don't get it, babies don't develop properly, and mothers and children die in the womb...the people who go down will be sickly, but will survive, if they are lucky, a few years....but they will never be able to reproduce.

I was at an army surplus store, and i saw some vehicles that must have served some obscure purpose at some time. Its surprising what people will attach an engine to. So I'm trying to find a vehicle made for a specific industry or job that would be perfect for a post apocalyptic world. any suggestions?
