there's so much fear-porn on media and internet in general, that it would take a very mentally impaired person to keep watching it and 'keep track' who did what in what country and who did what in response to this or that....and from the viewpoint of average citizen, there isn't much to do anyway....whole EU countries are living the crisis and no rioting/protests are doing much of anything....people are growing awareness yeah, but it would take entire world to come together and do something about it, and even then this idea is just a theory sold on hope...
shit does not look good, so all i can do is just eat my food, wash my dishes and enjoy the view....sad, but what can you really do when it all goes down ////

In the event of a major apocalypse event nuclear reactors could come into disrepair or be unmaintanable causing them to meldown/leak/whatever...

-Would the earth become irradiated to hell?
-would huge areas become toxic wastes?

I was talking to this retired nuclear engineer from Arkansas that runs a hot dog stand, and he worked at the Pilgrim plant in Massachusetts. Apparently it's a miracle that Boston is still here, due to the poor maintenance at the plant.

Modern nuclear power is much safer in terms of accidents. We don't use graphite in control rods anymore, so they don't cause the opposite of the intended effect. Even then, Chernobyl was idiocy, and the experiment that led to the disaster wasn't cleared by the plant manager's bosses.

Still, nuclear waste isn't safe no matter how technology we get.
Augustus Bobberwater - Sat, 04 Jun 2016 06:34:16 EST ID:3VlPy42e No.14369 Ignore Report Quick Reply
You're fucking retarded.

We already have technology to create nuclear "waste" plants that use nuclear waste to generate power and over time transform nuclear waste in regular old lead.

It's just that no one (the oil industry) wants to build it.

There are Breeder Reactors, in particular Liquid Fluoride Thorium Breeder Reactors, which transmute some of the existing byproducts of current reactors, and are much safer.
But they are nowhere near production ready and they don't "run on the waste" of existing reactors: They either are used to process existing waste or produce energy. I suppose a combination of both is theoretically possible if you sacrifice efficiency but it's nowhere near as awesome as you made it out to be.

From what I understand the US, UK, and Russia have all reached peak oil, however lots of the world hasn't yet. Still though, I think that's because oil companies include shale oil they get from fracking, which in the long run doesn't work out. Long story short if peak oil isn't here already, it's coming real fuckin soon. (Source: uni ES classes)

Awesome. I'm really huge into gardening, permaculture, and sustainability. The mountains of Montana call to me, I'm not sure why. I'm looking to travel a bit and test waters for good places to relocate. From all things I have heard, Montana sounds like it's beautiful, with nice and independent people, lots of nature, but really low professional wages. But if I can provide food and shelter and make ends meet with an online job, then maybe it won't be so bad.

I've always wondered why the go-to for tiny meme houses is shipping containers instead of dumpsters. Shipping containers are surprisingly expensive, and you have to call a manufacturer of them to get one since shipping companies re-use them until they fall apart.

Dumpsters, though, fuck it. Go to a demolition site and just steal one. They have wheels, even! And they're thicker-walled, and not that small. Even smaller dumpsters for apartment buildings and restaurants would make decent shelters if you got a few of them and joined them somehow, and you can transport them much more easily.

I just finished watching The Road and The Postman. Alright /fo/ Your country along with the rest of the world is fucked. No way around it, people starving, rape killing, cannibalism, rouge bands of outlaws, militia groups, little to no gasoline. Just a cluster fuck. Assuming money is worthless and bartering is the norm.

I would probably join a militia of sorts, maybe as an officer. I have guaranteed food shelter and water and surrounded by people who want to protect themselves and what little they have.
> spend my days patrolling our on horse back with an AR and a pistol on my hip.
> stop and talk to people
> ask them if they need anything(food water blankets)
> ride around in a posse and scrounge for supplies
> on my off time I toil in my garden
> run a distillery
> grow a few pot plants for recreational smoking
> live like 1800's frontier America.

So what is your overall plan to survive? Fuck off into the woods and live off the land? Travel from place to place trading? Have a good community to be with for protection?

Round up all the beautiful ladies for mating.
Kill men who do not join or aren't useful in some way.
The key would be weaponry (as stated previously), food, and water.
Shelter could be found in any previously established city or structure.
I suppose I'd eventually have to learn to manufacture drugs/goods in case there are other militias thati could eyesorel establish positive relations with (given that I haven't, can't, or shouldn't obliterate them )
I'd also learn to manufacture or hoard gasoline. And armor proof my vehicles somehow. I'd also probably have to get into cannibalism for extreme survival/warfare situations. Obtaining crucial resources and securing the areas would be primary.
Pretty much like how military governance works now but ata small scale.

Thankfully I grew up on a farm and I also know how to sail, I'm thinking that in a post-apocalyptic scenario with very little gasoline not many outlaws would be wasting their precious guzzoline roaming open waters looking for people to rape and pillage, I'm also think few if any bandits would know how to sail a ship

Well it's all about short term profits.

Exxon first cottoned on to climate change in 1981 if you want to know how long it's been a thing. Obviously they reacted as any company could and ploughed money into denial even as they knew it was true. Tinfoil would be saying there's anything beyond selfish greed on the part of old men behind it. Climate change has been a thing a long time. It was accepted as truth in the early 90s in most places. As I said though, the oil company board rooms knew long before that.
