So /fo/, what's your favorite way for the world to end? Nuclear holocaust? Zombie infection? Alien invasion? Holy wrath? Economic collapse?

I'm a bit of an advocate for zombies, because it would be an interesting way to go, and causes minimal damage to the environment.

Zombie invasion, Less chance of other people slapping your shit.....

Alien invasion, then we'd already be dead and or enslaved if aliens came, unless we were equally as advanced as a civilization, so I prefer zombies....

Economic collapse....things might be ok if people/communes form.

Nuclear holocaust? Hard mode of survival scenarios.

depends on what you mean by apocalypse.
if you mean the end of the species i dont think that nukes, zombies or economy could pull it off. so id go with the aliens, gives you a chance of token resitance and you get to see all sorts of badass tech. i dont know about you but if im going to have my brains blown apart id rather it be by space and time being warped than by a bullet.
if just end of civilization as we know it: economic collapse. the lessons would in time just make us stronger. and as opposed to many other causes in this one more of the pain falls on those who caused it.

I like to think of things that could actually happen, so that means a global plague, major seismic event, comet or asteroid impact, atomic war, nearby gamma ray burst, or collapse of the biosphere. My favorite? Global plague. It seems highly likely, doesn't cause widespread destruction, and eliminates the problem of humanity first.

Zombies = They become immobile within 24 hours and crisis averted. Unless they are magical.

Interdimensional wizards = Well we're fucked.

Economic collapse = We have a fishing boat, a racing boat and hunting rifles in the summer home. Eh short story long, I'll be safe and sail on back once the poor people have finished eating each other.

Nuclear = Eh, a bit fucked to be honest.

Muslim invasion = I'd move further up north, they hate the cold.

Zombies aren't dead. "real" that is, the zombies that actually exist, are just poisoned till their heart slows down, and seem dead, suffer some brain damage, that sort of thing. Most causes of a "movie" zombie that are likely to happen involve an infection of some sort of virus or fungus.

this "dead zombie" is a rather silly notion that the entertainment industry came up with.

Zombies because eventually they would die off (lack of food / decomposition - depending on which type they are) and there would be a brighter future ahead. The worlds crippling over-population would be eased and it's entirely likely that the slow, stupid and sick would die first.
Plus the macabre pleasure of domination found in killing these fucks would be an interesting experience.
I just hope I find a nice place to hide with some friends and a couple of cases of expensive scotch and i'm set.

a hemorrhagic virus makes you bleed to death. a flu virus makes your body overheat to death. How are either of those going to somehow mimic rabies? wouldn't the work being done on rabies be more likely to result in a rabies-like epidemic? loo, infectious diseases work like this: you get sick, you either die, or don't. if you die, the disease goes away but if you don't die the disease lives on. but, similarly, if the disease lives on, so do you, meaning you've beaten the infection. you get sick and die, or you get sick and get better. zombies. really.

I don't have a favorite. I don't want any of these things to happen, so I have no favorite. Ideally, I'd be most comfortable with an infection-type disaster. An alteration of rabies that fungus that turns you into a zombie.

Why? Because as fun as an apocalypse sounds, I'd probably regret wanting it after a week or two, and cry myself to sleeping wishing that things would go back to normal. The great thing about viruses... you only have to survive for a month, tops. Wear a mask, make sure to keep your air clean, and last for a month, and you're good. The infection would die off to low-levels, and the risk would be gone for the most part. Society would fix itself.

Least ideal scenario is nuclear. Nuclear radiation is a bitch, and it leaves no hope if wide-spread.

Actually no i'm not. Even the Fallout game i mentioned exagerates it.
I'm not taking this information out of my ass even the concept of nuclear winter that used to be considered absolute truth is being proven to be exagerated. If we had a nuclear war all important industries and military facilities would be nuked instantly and people would survive in nuclear shelters and in small villages throughtout the globe to re-populate earth.
I personally recomend you the documentary Threads (1986) by BBC it does portray a very accurate depiction of the events during and after a nuclear war relatively near targets of nuclear bombardment but it is extremely outdated and modern theories prove life in post-apocalyptia woudln't be so harsh as they thought but the first 10 years would be pretty tough.
Life expectancy would lower to middle-age levels and radiation poisoning would kill millions.
Human is a pretty persistant animal that lives all over the globe in the far corners of the earth.

Economic Collapse would be the most interesting, and probably the most realistic at the same time. It could very likely lead to wars between States, and civil war/heavy instability within a State (one just has to look at the current political crisis in the EuroZone). Third World countries would be hit first, with foreign aid being withdrawn, and an increase in famine/preventable disease related deaths.

While causing widespread devastation, and would be one of the most plausible "apocalypses", I don't think it would be able to cause a viable threat to humanity, unlike a nuclear war scenario. So while likely, it would be less of a challenge for humanity.

I would say third world countries already live an apocalyptic scenario.

There's economic crisis everywhere. Famine, unemployment, diseases, drug lords, failed governments, civil unrest and all of that. Like most parts of Mexico, Central and South America.

Fucking native mesoamericans had their own apocalypse when Spain invaded and everything they knew and loved disappeared.

When SHTF in the so called developed nations, they will barely give a fuck about it.

There will be a volunteer drive in your area shortly. Bring your own weapons and equipment as they are likely not to be issued in all garrisons; no doorknobs in pillowcases please. Those who retreat without orders to do so will be considered guilty of treason and will be treated accordingly at the earliest convince of the nearest patriot.

Await contact from a local militia representative for further details on sign up locations in your district.

I think the most likely post Apocalyptic situation is that exactly. Once the economy turns over in America (as it's already starting to in Europe) then China is going to lose a majority of it's exports thus putting all three superpowers into poverty.

Over the past decades, Overpopulation lead to Overconsumption. Overconsumption lead to Overproduction. Overproduction lead to shit tons of money and megacorporations rising. With the economy destroyed there will be less money for the companies to work for, less production, less consumption and... can you guess the last step? Famine is going to happen. Famine and Bloodshed. All because idiots couldn't keep their dicks in their pants and not have 40 fucking children and build a shit ton of cities where there didn't need to be any cities. God I hate humanity. So eventually everybody is going to starve nice and slow, except maybe the super rich but they'll be worthless soon enough. Eventually the entire world turns into Detroit. The End.

I hope you guys are prepared for that shit.

My favorite way is the entire financial system being called into question and doubted as all paper assets degrade themselves to be more worthless than toilet paper. Meanwhile 7 billion people consume resources at an insane level to the point where countries like Pakistan, India, China, UK and the USA have problems maintaining the basics for electrical generation.

As the by product to this is the entire fabric of society reassesses what is truely that important. First thing to go is medical establishments. It is determined that if people are going to die of cancer, heart attacks, bowel obstructions, what have you....they are going to die from it.

Nurses and doctors are first against the wall. The Bankers pull the soldiers finger. Soldiers are then poisoned by their medical staff.

Game over.

This, over and over.

As for myself, I would fancy a Zombie Apocalypse, especially if they were slow-moving. My friend and I will plan it out all the time. Every time starting from different places where we are. For instance,
>Smoking a cig on my upstairs porch
>Friend inquires, "What about zombs, omg..."
>Plan is already down.
Go inside and grab weapons, get the stairs down. Anyway possible, probably with my car if better car is around. My car's a piece of shit. Climb back up, zombie infection is probably getting pretty bad by now in other places. Grab gear and clothes, dry foods, our tent, shit like that. Basically quickly packing for a long-term camping trip. Whilst we're packing, call other friends, relatives, agree on a bug-out point or at least let them know there are fucking zombies and you're cutting out. Depending on severity, cars might not be an option, therefore we keep ALL ESSENTIALS on us. So if we have to cut out of a car, we have everything on us. If we decide to hoof it and go back through the water systems and fields and shit, we can drop all the camping shit and whatnot on the ground and leave it. But the main objective would be to mass capable allies and surviving. That's right, somebody's going to have to take care of the dead, and I haven't trusted the Government to do shit since day one. Most likely, if zombies happen, it's game over, so why not dive headlong into it? And on the off-chance we are able to mass allies, maybe find other allies, maybe not destroy ourselves in the meantime, like Drake Equation shit. If everything was to defy Murphy's Law, we would end up with a naturally selected team/unit. And we just kicked a bunch of zombie ass!!! Yeah! Sorry... lol

This is my first time to /fo/. I like it, I hope 420chan keeps it.

BRING ON THE NUKES!

Initially, it would be hard to get by, but, the nukes would clear out TONS of people. If you were one of the few survivors, it wouldn't be too hard to get at the few valuable resources left.

Also, nukes would probably only hit major population centers. So any place you go to search for food and materials would be fairly intact.

There is the whole "nuclear winter," and left over radiation to deal with though.

I love the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. It's like an apocalypse in a bottle. I don't know if I could handle bloodsuckers and controllers though, they creep the shit out of me.

...I definitely prefer economic collapse mainly because it would cause so much political upheaval. It would be a great time to get wealthy off of illicit endeavors. For instance, if a government enforced martial law, then you know people would rebel against it and they would need weapons to do so. All you would need to do is lurk around troop movement and scavenge for wares immediately following a gunfight right before the winning side sweeps things up. It would be tricky not getting caught since you would need to work under an extremely short time frame, but that's part of the thrill.

Economic Collapse is the most likely and afterwards we would get a system that actually worked so that would be cool.

Zombies would be interesting and sickeningly kinda fun but I would be fucking scared to become one.

My personal vote is for Hell to open up because then the Angels and the ascended alien species would come down and fight the demons. It would be so badass you wouldn't even believe it. And then once the Angels won, (because seriously, they've got God on their side) we would ourselves become an ascended race of interdimensional beings yo!

I imagine the world going up in fire like in a Wagnerian opera. No end-time scenario is as dramatic or as poetic as manmade warfare.
The first World War approaches being a century old. That war and the subsequent one changed warfare and civilization, along with the state of the human race, forever. It was a war for the fate of the species and of the planet, and it ended with the creation of a weapon capable of annihilating all that is.

Imagine how epic the third and last World War would be.
