I try the classic method of fingers down the throat, but that only triggers short little spurts of vomit, not like a complete stomach evacuation. Is there a better method?

You're probably just taking your fingers out too soon.
Wiggle fingers and tickle the back of your throat. Don't stop just because you're starting to gag. Keep going until you actually start to puke and then keep going some more. You should have puke on your hand if you did it right.

this is an old thread, but if you want to limit things to the use of just your fingers, caress and finger your butthole thoroughly. stick fingers up your nose, lick em good and stick em down your throat. it would help if you drink a lot of liquid and something chunky, or like it eat some soup before hand. so much shit is gonna come out that way.

that, or chug robitussin after eating some soup with bread. if chugging itself doesn't cause you to vomit everywhere, you'll vomit everywhere 45 minutes to an hour and a half later.

drink the dirtiest whiskey you can think of, chug chug chug

get addicted to opioids and stop taking them and get withdrawals. you'll be puking all day long in terrible agony, but you will definitely be puking your guts out.

soak a benzedrex nasal inhaler cotton in robitussin syrup and maybe throw in some kind of liquor, for good measure. or maybe make some jenkem.

OP my advice is to see how you can do without the ridiculously priced bullshitbook. Obviously if your grade depends on it being checked (which sometimes they do the greasy fucking scammers they are) you have to get one, but I got away wit using library copies and studying/home working with others who had the book. Worked it really well.

Look for used copies online.

Go on subcirclejerks for pirating college texts and ask them

Buy your textbooks from Amazon India, they are 10% the listed price but reprinted on shitty quality paper (who cares). You need an Indian forwarding service, a PO box where they just wrap paper around it with your address and remail it to you.

Don't take shitty courses that make you use garbage proprietary online learning 'tutors'. Go to a real school like Stanford which prints free texts for students, and doesn't charge tuition if your parents combined income is under $125k.

I remember someone saying on /lit/ that philosophers are the masters of logics the other day. Another person argued that knowing how to deal with logics facilitates critical thinking and therefore beneficial.

But how does one start with logics? I see there are many types of logic, so I am at a loss here.
If why I'm seeking this knowledge is important, then it is because I'm interested to find out more about critical thinking and reasoning. Where should I start?

Thanks and here are some shotguns for a wanky zombie apocalypse.

Yes, they are masters of rational logic.
Together with mathematicians.

And that's why they can't comprehend the chaotic thought, nor the random nature of the world of fiction and illusion that we live in.

I say this:learn logic fallacies so that you can use them to your advantage to beat people up in arguments. Beyond that, logic is more harmful then helpful.
Lydia Worthingham - Fri, 29 May 2015 22:55:06 EST ID:XAx4F9cK No.37500 Ignore Report Quick Reply
I disagree with Nell Clabberpick. He's talking about rhetoric, not LOGIC. Rhetoric is an awesome subject though, so it's no loss if OP went off to learn that.

To learn logic, there's a few modes you can learn. First, puzzles. Puzzles are logic. But informal. The second option is to read introductory philosophy texts. These give you a better idea of what logic is, and formalizes it a little bit. Eventually, you could move onto advanced philosophy and formal logic. But the typical philosophy curriculum takes a few years to do this. That's too long IMO.

Or, you could immediately pick up an introductory math textbook on logic/proofs (Nell Demblewater's links are probably good). It seriously changed how I think. It doesn't give you superhuman abilities, it just slightly clears up your thoughts and gives an interesting way to approach arguments.

>Implying logic is somehow contrary to stochastic models.
LOL. At least you're not using logic to justify your opposition to logic. Because that would be hypocritical.

Philosophy student here. Just buy textbooks on sentential and formal logic and you should be good to go. You'll realize that math is just logic applied to quantities, which makes both math and logic easier.

Sup /howto/, thought I would post this in Music first but that doesn't seem like the kind of place for learning instruments and all.

I have decided to spend my NEET time doing something worth while and I have always been into music so why not do that? I tried music early on as a kid but never stuck with it, I have a keyboard, drumset, guitar plus a bunch of other nick nacks. I have some basic books for drumming and guitar and a good bit of piano books from beginner to barely into intermediate shit but I don't have a huge amount of instructional material. I could get through everything in a month's time probably and be decently proficient.

So if you haven't inferred, I am looking for free shit. Preferably one big ass wall of text that covers metal, jazz and blues guitar. I am doing guitar first then I will take up drums after I am more into guitar. I would be greatly appreciative of drum shit too but right now I am looking for guitar mainly. I would like to master drums and be a good guitar player. Guitar I just want to play certain genre's and just be able to make solid work for my drums. I may take up piano/keyboard after I am well into drums and close to advanced with guitar to supplement my skillz.

I've tried the little tid bits here and there from a bunch of websites like freedrumlessons and youtube people and all that shit but it never teaches anything other than narrow focused things without any order or progression.

I'm not looking for places that have, "Hey check out this rudiment. Forget about the others this one is ballin."

Pic semi-related.

Transcribing can teach you almost everything you need to perform really well, and the theory will speed up the process and offer you more than a pragmatic understanding of music. But the pragmatic understanding is usually where people don't spend enough time. Listen very actively, and listen to tons of music. Listen to your favorite recordings and know them well enough to execute all of it in your head. Singing can make you sure that you're achieving this. There are a few parts to the music you want to comprehend--phrasing, intonation, articulation, dynamics, and more generally cues and interplay. There are others I'm sure I've missed, and they are equally important.

You can't just half-ass your way through playing ideas, and you definitely DO NOT want to practice this way. It teaches mistakes. Your mind does not distinguish between correct playing and mistakes, it's more like mastering the probability of your mistakes. Slow things down until your execution is perfect, and you can be conscious of what you're playing, then turn up the metronome a tick. Never exceed your mind's ability to experience what you're playing. Slow down or practice something else if your mind tires. It's a rewarding way to practice and it prevents sloppiness which brings diminishing returns.

The strategy is to learn riffs and lines that interest you from artists that you like. Pause the track, write down the time. The more you can internalize, the more you train your brain to know how to play. Most modern music like what you listed is built on feel, and the theory and vocabulary is an expression of that. As you learn the vocabulary, you must absorb the feel so that later you can ask your brain for a feel and you get vocabulary. Make sense? The instrument doesn't exist.

It seems that some people learn very quickly without "chunking" or other short-term memory techniques.

Like they get taught something, and they learn it instantly. "Sharp-minded, or he's sharp".

Others, like me, take 3-4 times before it actually registers. Yesterday at boxing, the instructor was teaching us footwork and everyone else "got it" much quicker than me.

I've always had this problem and I'm wondering if it's just decades of mental laziness. I'm awful at comprehension and remembering what I read, when I copied stuff off the board I'd always have to look up again....I struggle with being taught or instructed..

So my questions are: Are there exercises to train short-term memory like lumosity, do they work? has anyone here had the same problem as me, and how have you dealt with being a bit slow, or is the whole situation just a genetic curse.

Same here, man. I used to believe that I could just force myself to be like everyone else. You notice a lot of responses in this thread are kinda vague, like "just be there in the moment, make sure you're paying attention", but aren't you already? Isn't that why you're there? I think we are all different, and some of us in particular just clarification before the brain sets the pattern for good - to theorize wildly, maybe there is a failsafe in some individuals, an evolutionary mechanism against learning bad behaviors on the go. Your brain wants to be sure this is how it is done.

Also, group settings can make or break learning for some people. While in karate, I suffered in the adult group classes, but once I paid a little extra or one-on-one, I excelled and continue to excel.

Do not put yourself down because you are not learning like the others. Any good teacher will see that you are committed and will take the extra time to train you. If your teacher becomes frustrated with your slowness, he is not worth your time.

I posted in the other thread about learning music, but the rules apply to everything

Basically you want to achieve an internalized understanding through whatever means necessary. Your mind has to keep up 100% with what's going on or you will not remember it and you will not intrinsically understand it.

Bill Evans explains it best:

What blaster do you have? You can just look up "nerf X mod" and find anything you wanna know. Typically: Springers can benefit from a rebarrel, air restrictor removal, stronger spring, padding and better seal. Electric flywheel blasters like higher voltage, rewires, and better motors/flywheels. Airguns like a rebarrel and overpressure plug. Nerf is a really fun hobby, especially if you love tinkering and messing with all the little parts and mechanisms. Find a group around you, smoke some weed and play nerf, it's awesome. Facebook is very valuable for this.

>Job Interviews
Let them offer a number first, you counter by offering a decently higher number that's not outrageous, then you meet in the middle. Ever haggle at a fleamarket? Same principles apply here. Say you appreciate the offer, and counter with as much as you think you can get away with. If the interviewer/company is worth their salt, they'll usually budge a little in your favor. Do some research beforehand on similar positions in different companies within the industry and draw your numbers from there.
>Asking for a Raise
Go into the bosses office, explain the good work you've been doing and your many positive qualities, and ask for a raise or to renegotiate your salary. If your boss personally sees the work you do (ie a smaller company or family run operation), you've worked there awhile, and you haven't had any fuckups lately, it shouldn't be too hard. At a larger corporation, where your reputation and connections are actually more important than the quality of your work, cozy up to your supervisors or other important people in the company/division (bosses will talk about you to other bosses if you've been making the rounds enough) for a bit (few weeks/months depending on your current reputation) before you ask for it.

Also, school yourself to read between the lines when people talk, if you haven't already. And learn to read body language as well.

usually you have reviews with your manager every 6 months or a year or so.

at the end of that review they should have explained how you're going etc, this is the time you ask them about getting a raise.

i know not all companies work like this, but this is how office working usually is.

The raise is tied to how well the review is for many employers.
