So I was wondering if you guys can help me, on HOW to learn Japanese. I've already learnt Hiragana and Katakana. I'm using RtK Vol. 1 for the Kanji. I also have Genki. And I know about Tae Kim's Grammar guide. So I was wondering if you could tell me, more tools for learning it. Thanks

Hey, dudes

I'm not OP and I just finished learning Hiragana and starting on Katakana. See that I'll be near to where OP is in a few days this is very relevant to me. I've been using Namasensei on youtube and Memrise.com.

Sounhds like you're pretty much set dude. You might enjoy Pimsleur or Michel Thomas, which I've found to both be handy. Beyond that, I think you're probably good.

There's Daily Japanese Threads on 4chinz /a/ and they're surprisingly fun, so check those out if you want some companionship.

For some motivation, you might like to check out namasensei on YouTube. The learning is mediocre, though not bad, but the motivation is worth the time it takes to follow the video alone.

I have been using this youtube channel to get some quick tips. A warning though is do not learn directly from her, only use her to understand something you get stuck on. She's very good at explaining confusing things but she doesn't go into enough detail.

Does anybody have some tips for learning Kanji?

>Does anybody have some tips for learning Kanji?

Let me rephrase my question, I was thinking about this for a hour after. I understand that Kanji is tough and there isn't really anything better than buckling down and just learning them and all their squiggly goodness. In this stage of my learning though, I think I'm just being overwhelmed trying to build vocabulary and Kanji at the same time. I feel comfortable with my grammar if I can sit down and just practice it over and over but I really feel lacking in vocabulary to use that grammar.

What I'm really trying to ask what is a good way of learning vocabulary without impeding my learning of the Kanji? If this makes any sense.

Just pick up 'Remembering the Kanji' or head on over to KanjiDamage.com

They both break down the kanji into a very approachable set of recognisable shapes, instead of just a mass of squiggles. Makes all the difference.

Both RTK1 and Kanjidamage have been mentioned in the thread already.

Plus you should reread his question, that wasn't what he was asking for.

Hey guys, OP here. Thank you all for your responces. Btw, I have a few things for people with the same question as me. You could try out these books, I plan too. Also for those of you using RtK, remember you need to use s SRS (Spaced Repition System) I think it's that, I use Anki myself, and it's great so far, you should also know that using RtK gives you the Chinese advantage, as in, if a Chinese person who knows Mandarin is learning Japanese, he would already know all the kanji, the same with us, we would know some kanji, but in our language, like the Chinese, then you would just need to learn the readings. Hope this thread has been useful information to anyone else who's learning Japanese. :]

That place kinda sucks. All that said, it has its own charm, it's not for me though.
