Getting Permission to Film in.... by Archie Dadgelirk - Mon, 20 May 2013 21:47:05 EST ID:qAfbJDi5 No.39193 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Abandoned locations, I wish to make a very morbid horror film and in nightmare scenes I wish to use rusted, broken, and completely neglected facilities (factories, mental institutions, schools, houses, stores... ect.) I just wish to know who I should contact first. Should I speak with my lawyer about attaining permits to use these old locations?

If someone can point me in the right direction that'd be great.
I live in New Jersey, I'm not sure how they handle film makers.

You'll need written permission to access the land and facilities and you may or may not need a film permit to film indoors on private property. Don't be surprised if the owner of the facility expects you to have insurance and to pay for the privilege.

Dear /law/,

I need some advice regarding a matter that I'm currently confused about. I currently live in Pennsylvania. Here are the details:

In 2010, my parents gave me a car for successfully completing my Associate's Degree program. They kept the title in my father's name, until I could afford to insure and maintain the vehicle on my own. I was able to insure it under my own name for a time, but fell into hardship and was unable to pay the premiums, resulting in the policy being cancelled. I was never able to have the title transferred, in that time. My parents have since moved to another state.

Since summer of 2012, I have been living with my older brother and his fiancee. He has routinely used the car for the past year for commute to his job (which he no longer has), grocery shopping, appointments, and other personal uses. (IE, going to acquire pot.) In that time period, he has had to replace several components in the vehicle, including the transmission, and rear drive assembly. He seems to be under the impression that, as he has paid the cost of these repairs out of his own income (or, rather, household income between myself, he and his fiancee), he is somehow entitled to ownership of the entire vehicle. The title still remains in our father's name.

I have since decided to relocate, and was initially inclined to leave the vehicle with him, as he has no other means of transportation. However, as the legal owner, our father has expressed that he would prefer I retain control of the vehicle, as it was given to me. There is a completed "Affidavit of Gift", which I posses, but have not had notarized. In all honesty, I would prefer to keep the vehicle, but would rather avoid arguing with my brother over particulars.

My brother claims that, if I intend to take the vehicle with me, I will be required to sign a notarized form stating that I intend to repay the costs associated with maintenance that arose while he was primarily using the vehicle. He claims that he kept the vehicle maintained out of interest of everyone's well-being, and that he deserves compensation if I'm going to "stab him in the back" in such a manner. He initially claimed that he would remove the components he's replaced, but my parents believe that this would constitute destruction of property, and would be enforceable as a criminal charge.

While not necessarily relevant, I have noticed that when he drives the vehicle, he typically engages in reckless behavior behind the wheel, including speeding in excess of 20 miles over the limit, passing on a double-line, and spinning the tires in excessive fashion, and DUI. Many would agree that he doesn't deserve to drive the car.

TL;DR - This car is not legally entitled to my brother, but he seems to think it is. What legal recourse to I or the legal owner have to have the vehicle reclaimed. Can he reasonably force me to repay the costs he incurred while he was driving it?

There is much more too it than that. Besides, even if I wanted to give him some money, I don't have it to give. I've been consistently giving him more than my fair share since I started living with him.

For instance, I got $1400 on my tax return. All of it was given to him, and all I saw of it was a gram of pot. He claims it was used to pay bills, rent, and other necessities. That doesn't explain how we're $3000 behind on rent.

sounds like the easiest way for this to play out is to inform your brother kindly that you dont plan to give him anything, and if he wants to he can sue you. let the judge tell him hes a fucking tool

He would probably just skip to breaking my jaw. That would work for me, as I would slap him with assault, and wave as the squad car hauled him off. However, I don't need any more unnecessary medical bills.

He has invested money in the car and can have that money reimbursed, unless you can prove he was being reckless and caused damage to the car. (A DUI is probably not enough)

As for the car itself, your bro is not going to get it.
Best just to pay him and not destroy your relationship.

royal mail RC delivery - should I be worried? by Phineas Punderhitch - Sat, 18 May 2013 05:49:04 EST ID:pdN9nKax No.39165 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

I ordered some ethylphendiate from a UK RC vendor (just for study, not even recreation), which is completely legal in this country, no ambiguous analogue laws that it could be considered illegal under.

However, my vendor always sends it signed for, and I missed the postie and had to go pick it up. Now, it's sent in a completely flat jiffy bag which probably looks suspicious, and I've ordered a lot of illegal drugs to my house in the past (never intercepted though), but when I went to sign for it, the bloke asked me "Any idea what you're expecting mate?", I narrowly avoided panicking, and just said "Err no not sure to be honest", and then he pulls it out of a draw, gives it to me, I sign and go.

I don't remember them ever asking me before, so it sounds like I've drawn attention to myself. Should I be worried? Do these guys usually pass info onto police? To make it worse, I have slightly long hair, I'm 20, and was wearing a pink floyd t shirt and headphones around my neck when I went to pick it up. Not exactly helping the image.

I'm annoyed at myself because I had thought in the past that if this ever happened I could say "a memory card", but because I was put on the spot I didn't.

So, how concerned should I be? Is it time to give up on the idea of using it for illegal drugs?

Not in the UK, so I can't really comment in a specific nature. In the US, the Postal Service pretty much doesn't give a fuck unless you're mailing biological agents (IE, Anthrax, risin, etc...) or explosives. I've seen several pounds of medical grade cannabis move half-way across the country in mason jars inside of layered zip-lock bags.

>"Err no not sure to be honest"

This might have come off as slightly suspect, but more than likely, the postal bloke just thinks you were expecting a sleazy porno or something. Next time, just make up some guff about buying an album on eBay/Amazon.

If you're really concerned, have a mate of yours whom you trust receive potentially illegal post and have him re-mail it to you, in new packaging, with markings that would throw suspicion.

what am I talking about, what you ordered isn't even illegal OP you're worried about nothing

On a related UK royal mail note:
>If I happened to order a syringe of psilocybin mushroom spores in the same order as an oyster mushroom grow kit from the same website, would there be any grounds for suspicion?
I'm guessing it's really not illegal so it'd be fine, but i'm asking anyways just to be safe

Can i get myself a settlement? by Doris Nongerhood - Thu, 16 May 2013 00:07:33 EST ID:sOe3MZm6 No.39146 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Hey /law/, first time coming over to these parts.
I was arrested for dui today.
I was stopped initially for stopping too far over a white line at a 4-way intersection.
After refusing questioning and roadside sobriety tests, the officer cuffed me and arrested me for dui. I asked him what his probable cause was for this charge, and he said it was for not stopping correctly behind the white intersection line.

I'd also like to add i was 100% sober

He also searched my vehicle as i was telling him i didn't consent to any search and seizures. His claim was that it was legal because it was an "impound search" or something like that. He then had a blood test administered on me.

There was nothing at all that could have lead the officer to believe i was dwi. There was no smell mentioned, nothing in the car, my eyes weren't bloodshot, and i declined the sobriety tests. I have had one prior dui conviction, and i think thats why he suspected me. But i don't believe that constitutes as probable cause .

So my question /law/: Does not stopping fully behind a white intersection line constitute probable cause for a dui arrest and a blood test? Will this get thrown out of court? Will the blood test results be inadmissible because they were done with no probable cause? Can i get one of those fat settlement checks i hear about?

refusing to take a sobriety test does make you suspect, because sober people generally don't refuse a test, refusing the test leads to your car being impounded and your license being suspended for six months. that's why refusing a test is suspect. There are lots of injustices going on every day, and sometimes it's better to pick your fights. It may not seem fair, and it's not but you really need to ask if it was worth all this trouble to fight over something so trivial. if you were sober, you should fight the ticket and ask for the judge to waive the impounding fees, pay now and ask the judge to order a reimbursement.

with that said, if you really believe you have a case talk with a lawyer, but this customer is always right attitude is something that is wrong with this country. good luck with whatever you decided to do

im not going to go through why you're an idiot. but basically "i wasnt drinking" isnt a viable defesne to a dui. when you decided to refuse questioning you made youre self a suspect. when you refused testing you made your self a criminal. he had rights to talk to you and make assessments when he pulled you over. for some reason i have a feeling that you claimed the fifth when he asked "have you been drinking tonight" just to be a dick. if you kept refusing questions he has to make assumptions, and in the case of dui they arent going to have any issue with him going on the cautious side. you have to realize and do it quickly how little tolerance LEO's have for dui.

enjoy spending your own money. when the judge asks, why didnt you just comply if you wernt drinking and you respond with some fifth amendment bull shit about cops abusing their power hes going to smirk and tell you exactly what i did, and then charge you with dui. i mean whats you're defense to the dui charges other then i wasnt drinking? the dui is done on the road side with the tests. the blood test just confirms it, or in your case confirms your a dick.

>Really i just want to know what i can do. I don't think a complaint to the police department will suffice. Do i simply sue them, do i file a civil suit, or what?

What you can do is pay whatever the fine is and enjoy not having your license for 6 months or however long it is in your jurisdiction for refusing to take a sobriety test.

The police did nothing wrong. I actually somewhat felt sorry for you before i read this post and found out you're actually a litigious little prick.

>Refusing a sobriety test
Heres you mistake. Driving is considered a privilege, not a right. You will be taken into custody for refusing.
Every state has a judge on call 24/7 that they can call up, get a court order, and take your blood. Its your own fault for refusing.

>Prior DUI
Yeah you probably targeted because of that. Expect it now.

>Probable cause
Any trafic violation is enough probable cause for DUI. Deal with it.

> Searching you car
The cop can to some extent. If they go over the live, how arre you going to even prove it?

Odds are it will get thrown out if your blood test does come back sober.

I just wanted to do it for shits and giggles but not gonna do it if it can get me locked up. I know having an actual siren on the car would get me for impersonating a pig, but simply playing a siren file from an mp3 player, that seems different to me. Any other opinions on this?

I live in Texas. 5 years ago I got a ticket for driving without insurance. I was driving a friends car who told me he had insurance that would cover me but he didnt. There was no court date set at the time I got the ticket. I was told further details would be mailed to me. Months passed and I never received anything. Eventually I forgot about it and moved away.

Now I tried to renew my driver's license and found I have a warrant. The Warrant officer says I need to show up in court and enter a plea to have it deferred or I will have to pay $650 and $200 a year for the next 5 years to keep my driver's license.

What plea should I enter? Am I innocent because I was misinformed by the vehicle owner about his insurance or does that not matter? If not should I plea guilty or no contest?

Do I need a lawyer for this?

for what it's worth, miranda, is not read for petty crimes and involves more serious crimes. Op the pills may not mean shit all-in-all and be ignored, Grafitti, some folks are brilliant artists. Painting the trains I don't like. I love the railroad.

So, whatever, but when it's crap gang style graffiti, or tagger like. Thge pills would maybe overlooked, but tagging is actually damaging property.

I would say no jail and year probation, but who knows. Keep it cool. In our state they lock up spray paint.

I am a painter buisness/home, somewhat of a crappy artist that has not touched paint in a long time, let alone colored pencils ans markers. There are many underground style groups that know the spots to safely paint, even murals on buildings. keep it simple my friend.

Guys, I did something very fucking stupid today. I was delivering flyers for a business, and there was a porch that had wet concrete. There was no tape or sign, and I was running the whole time I was working. There was only the company truck. I stepped onto the porch, probably like 2-3 steps, and quickly realized I fucked up and ran off. My foot probably only went like a 1/4 inch in, I'm not really sure if it did at all. I checked my shoes the next house over and there was no sign of any concrete on them, it was nearly dry. As I ran off a worker spotted me, told me to get the fuck out of there so I did. One other flyer guy who was working with me was there with me. There was like three guys working on the concrete,

I finished my work and the incident was about an hour ago.

Please give advice in case I get sued. By the way I was working for my aunt's real estate company. I called her and let her know I'll take responsibility if they get in trouble. The house with the concrete I did not deliver a flyer to, but the neighbours do have flyers.

How fucked am I if they get our contact?
