Got short on luck and eventually just hopped states and crashed with a buddy.

Went to my mom who kept my social and birth certificate beforehand. She I guess lost it transferring to a new appt in my home state.

Where to go from here to get my life straighten out?

Your birth certificate is the corner stone of your documented identity. You can get a copy from the state/county where you were born though it may take time and money. Once you have that you'll want to establish residency and try to meet your new state's requirements for a state photo ID. They accept a laundry list of things as proof of identity.
