Hi 420chan!

I have been lurking this board for quite some time and have rarely contributed anything. Now I have something to share with you! SOLID WATER is the band I play with. Our genre is what we feel about genuine Rock from the heart. The musical production, composing and writing, as well as the web-presence are all done by ourselves and without any company involved. Check us out at solid-water.com

I like it, not a tremendous fan of the signing on solid five, it has midwestern american vibe. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just not my preference. I enjoyed the vocal performance on the way it is and grandma saara much more, though! My favorite song is definitely grandma S, good stuff guys I'll definitely check you out if you stop by florida!
My main gripe with your music is the following: NEEDS MORE BASS. aside from grandmas saarah the tracks felt severely lacking in the bass department, and even that song felt like it do with just a little more bass.

Am I just not understanding deathcore? It sounds fucking cringey as all fuck to me. That whiney screaming or growling makes me think of angsty highschoolers trying to be hardcore.

Am I just criminally misunderstanding deathcore/hardcore? I used to listen to death metal and black metal 10+ years ago when I was in highschool, but there are people MY AGE (almost 30) listening to that stuff.

I think it's comical how they're trying so hard. It's ironic to me.

The reason why I bring this up is because I live in NC and almost everyone that I know who is a musician near me is absolutely obsessed with this shit, but I can't get over how lame it is. What's the fucking appeal of sounding like a pissed off 14 year old???

dont really know what qualifies something as deathcore but i used to be into some of the cringier bands of that time.
I still like a lot of hardcore punk and death metal, and recently found this cd again, which is excellent and probably one of the only ones to come out of that scene that didnt suck.

I like Suicide Silence (though not the same since Mitch died) and some other bands but I’m not a hardcore listener of it. Maybe it’s because I like metal music but it’s hard for me to get into the death growl stuff so it’s like a middle ground for me I dunno. The genre does get some hate, which i don’t disagree with and I understand where you’re coming from OP.

Deathcore happened when/just after metalcore was a big thing so it essentially was the closest thing to pop death metal out there. Except it didn't sacrifice any of the heaviness/extremity which is the norm when moving metal to the mainstream. I guess the compromise came in complexity though, it emerged after bands like Decapitated and Vader revitalised death metal with their musicianship and technique. I guess it's dumbed down. Better "gateway" genre than nu metal though.

However I think to people who already even had a passing interest in death metal it is a bit dull.

one time i was talking to a classmate about music, and i told her i was into grindcore. so she started telling me about her favorite 'grindcore' bands. i looked them up, and they turned out to all be deathcore bands.

i kind of like the breakdown parts, but the more melodic parts sound awful because whenever the vocalist sings cleanly, it's always in that whiny pop-punk voice, which i've always hated.

Been getting into a fair amount of older country music recently and I really enjoy it. I love how raw and honest the music feels. It's the type of music that can bring even the most rugged and rough man to tears. So I guess this thread is for older country music(more recent artists that play in the older style are fine as well like Hank 3). I've been listening to Blaze Foley a lot recently and man this guy was the fucking shit. I swear his life was what most gangster rappers can only dream of.

So, after 5 years or so my ATH-FC707 headphones broke. Specifically the plastic parts in pic. Headphones work as before, had to resolder the wires inside the cups a couple of times due to accidentally pulling on the wire. But now I can't use them, because those plastic parts broke off and there's no way for the top part to stay steady. I'm thinking of engineering something up, but on the other hand an upgrade would be nice.

Anyways, any suggestions for headphones? Looking at the ATH-AJ55 or ATH-AVC500 models.

What do you guys use? What are your preferences?

Cheers and thanks for your replies :-)

Do you think nirvana was heavily influenced by the production team?

I was just listening to some nirvana to relive old memories, i only had youtube so i was watching old edited music videos. The videos seem so produced, yeah you see the band wrekcing up on stage but what do you expect of a bunch of 20 something year old guys on a stage loving life, of course they will go off the chain.

I dunno man I just think the whole situation could have been manipulated.

i was listeneing to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv96yJYhk3M when i had this thought.
Hamilton Grimwater - Wed, 21 Mar 2018 08:38:30 EST ID:ZIyWXxI5 No.453189 Ignore Report Quick Reply

Dude almost everything is influenced by the music industry/business somewhere along the line especially nirvana. you dont get onto mtv because you're a good band, you get onto mtv because your manager knows someone who works at mtv who is able to get you on there.

you dont sell millions of records without first having the approval of a record company who knows someone with the ability to distribute records.

Even now a days you cant just become famous from uploading songs to soundcloud you still need someone out there to promote your shit and constantly try to get you involved in gigs.

So yeah its not like nirvana were there going "so the video is going to do this and this and this and this" it goes like this

Record company: we think we could sell x amount of nirvirna singles and albums if we release x song "betty get me in touch with x video director"
Record company: hey there video director i want you to do a video for nirvana, sending you over a copy of the track, thanks
Video director: works on video for x amount of weeks/months to a deadline, gets band involved, takes band footage of concert where they go crazy
Record company: so what do you have for us?
video dirextor: well we have these 3 videos here, this one involved live footage, this one involves the band playing on a set, this one doesnt feature the band at all but the video works along with the theme

>major label bands
Aside from that yes. Plenty of bands have lots of creative control. They just sell 5 figures if they're lucky, 6 if they're supremely fortunate and barely at that. Record labels are a bit optional these days if you want to release and album. But actually selling any is a different matter. I mean if you're good you'll get shared and spread around a few underground blogs or get a gig supporting someone who only sold out a bit in front of 3000 people a night for a couple of weeks but while that's vast the majority of bands by number and artistic merit, it probably isn't by total sales.

But bands who make a comfortable living yeah, they don't have much control these days.
Hamilton Grimwater - Wed, 21 Mar 2018 18:05:27 EST ID:ZIyWXxI5 No.453192 Ignore Report Quick Reply

Yeah well your independent bands are a totally different story. But as soon as you see a band on tv its pretty much guaranteed they are on some kind of label which is affiliated with a major label.

A rap group in my hometown regularly sells out of 10k runs of their album on vinyl, sell something like 5k cds, sells out 300 person venues and all that, they have total creative control over their work, but you'll never see them on tv and its not because they arent good its because they dont have the connections to get onto television they dont fit the image they want to display on television and a lot of the media people still consume is produced by these television networks.

So when it comes to Nirvana absolutely definitely became and overproduced commodity, especially after teen spirit.
