Hey guys-

So my buddy's been making music for years, and recently started a new alias he's calling 'enmity'. He's not one for showing off, but the past few tracks he's made are really fucking blowing me away. They've already gotten some traction, but I figured I'd post some shit here and see if anyone had any suggestions/opinions. He's starting to get a few listens for sure, but we're not really sure where to take it from here... Do we show stuff to labels, or just keep forging on til they reach out to him? Any tips/discussion is greatly appreciated.

Newest track:

And for giggles, the one that blew up out of nowhere:

I'm 30 years old now, and for around a good 2-3 years I haven't really had any urge to sit down and listen to music. I don't ever feel like I need or want to. When I'm working I either listen to podcasts or the old XFM radio shows by Ricky Gervais, Karl P and Steve, or something like that.
The only times I can remember wanting to listen to music in the last 2 or so years, is when I was drunk, and that only happened about 3 times.

I'm not depressed or anything, actually I'm probably in the happiest period of my life. And it's even more strange that I used to be a bedroom DJ in my teens, and fully into the rave scene.
So what gives? Anybody else have a similar situation occurring to them?

Hey man, it's probably just a phase, don't think too much about it.

Or do, I don't know. Maybe you'll figure something out. Or maybe you just don't need it right now.

Personally, there was a short time where I thought I got tired of music, but that probably signalizes something about what's going on in life. Times are different now. Almost all of the stuff I listen to appeals to me, but whether for a short or a long time - time till tell.

Yeah well tbf music is just like anything else. its like movies or television shows, books etc.

You're probably just all music'd out, maybe you just need something to spark up the love again.....
Actually that makes me wonder, one of the things that makes me get back into old music habits is flicking through my cd and vinyl collections. i wonder how the next generations who dont collect phsycial music will fare.

Here are some basic but cool songs that a 30yo might enjoys.

Can we have a headphone thread in here?

I have always been very interested in headphones, but am not a true audiophile (don't understand all the science/technical details). Have had Pic related (Sony mdr xb950bt) for a while and love them as they outperform all previous headphones I've had. With the power Amp player on Android equalized correctly they sound great. I'm sure some people on here know more about headphones though. General discussion for headphones, what do you have, what have you tried, what is your advise to people looking for new headphones?

I'm generally interested in what's the best budget option for a good pair of hi-fi headphones that can be loud and have good bass. What really sets these Sonys apart is the bass, they pound so good.

Never tried your headphones, but I have had Audio Technica ATH-M50's and JVC HARX700's. Surprisingly, the HARX700's are my favorite of the two. They're only like $30-$50 depending on where you shop. The M50's were over $100 when I got them. What I like about the HARX700's is the amount of "space" they give the sound, whereas the M50's are crisp but almost abrasively bright, and they clamp my head like a fucking vice.

To make this relevant to you, it's possible that if you got a pair of wired headphones you could pay a lot less than what you paid for your Sony's and still get better audio quality. Of course wireless usually gets marked up quite a bit. Also, most "audiophiles" avoid headphones that boost bass. Headphones with a more balanced sound across the board are where it's at.

ATH-M50s/M50xs are hands down the most overrated headphone on the planet. It's not that they're too bright, rather, the soundstage is so narrow it sounds like all the sounds are jackhammering your eardrums at once and they're incredibly fatiguing to listen to for more than 15 minutes. Listening to them is like giving a jack russell terrier cocaine.

I had the Audio Technica ATH-FC707 for a long time. I liked that they were compact, but the build was meant to break, as it was thin.

My next purchase (about a year ago) were the Audio Technica ATH-M40x. Cost me around 109 euros. They will last me for atleast 5 years. I only use them at work, honestly. I chose them over the M50s because (correct me if I'm wrong) the M50s have a "modified" sound (boosted bass / highs). Also the M50s cost like 60 euros more, fuck that. I don't want any of that shit, I want clear, crisp, the-way-it's-meant-to-sound sound. Also they come with a corded cable, so if you pull on it by accident it'll just stretch out. I'm pretty happy with them.

I'd like to get new compact headphones, tho. Maybe even in-ears for travelling, but my route is mainly home-work by car, so whatever.

I generally agree on wireless, but I paid $50 for these and they are truly amazing for that price. Sound much better than my wired Sennheisers. And wireless is very convenient for my use, they're always around my neck and I go to school, work, and walk around town. Wires are a pain for that

Beethoven 7th II or dans macabre for grandiose
I like Schubert's Gute Nacht from Winterreise, but I probably can't appreciate it well and good as I like a version with an English tenor and the Germans complained he butchered it.
La folia (?) I think this one has a history and that many composers have done their own version throughout history.
La Streghe by Mr. Paganini, probably because he took the theme from a ballet and couldn't boringify it.
I found some opera dvds at an antique store. A few neat looking Russian ones (and ballets), but I did watch EEEEELEEEeEeEeEeKTRA

Derango is great, one of my favorite acts I ever saw live, too. Also one of the only CDs I still have the original of is Tumult.

It's often easier to name record labels than individual artists, and let you find the ones you prefer. SInce you like Derango, which often gets called "forest trance", I'll point you to some great forest-y labels:

Parvati
Sanaton
Stone Age
Peak

Those labels are pretty well established with a pretty large catalog, and you can just pick any release you feel like and it's likely to be decent. I recommend to start with the Various Artist compilations (aka VA) to get a broad sampling to find artists you like.
