As much as I think Ozzy Ozborne is a faggot, I think he had Buckethead nailed down well.

>"I tried out that Buckethead guy. I met with him and asked him to work with me, but only if he got rid of the fucking bucket. So I came back a bit later, and he's wearing this green fucking Martian's-hat thing! I said, 'Look, just be yourself.' He told me his name was Brian, so I said that's what I'd call him. He says, 'No one calls me Brian except my mother.' So I said, 'Pretend I'm your mum, then!' I haven't even got out of the room and I'm already playing fucking mind games with the guy. What happens if one day he's gone and there's a note saying, 'I've been beamed up'? Don't get me wrong, he's a great player. He plays like a motherfucker."

I've not studied the guy but I do think he has a high propensity of being a complete snob. You also really depreciate your work when you release nearly an album a day. Doing 3 albums a year is a lot and really strains a fanbase. 1-2 years between an album is the sweetspot. It gives the fanbase and newcomers dwell time to find it and get into it.

He could also be extremely humble as well. I dunno. I don't really care for his style to be honest. I've not listened to hardly any of his work but of what I have, it is all rather samey. At his point, I would have picked up way more instruments than a guitar.

Yeah, because Metal, Jazz, Classical, Drum n Bass, Hip-Hop, Funk, Progressive Metal, Ambient, and Avant Garde are all "samey"

>picked up way more instruments than a guitar.
And he does in fact play other instruments

>I've not studied the guy

That's one hell of an informed opinion you've got there.

They never really evoked anything out of me. I don't think they're utter garbage or anything but when I was 16 and all my friends were people who just wanted to sit around and smoke weed all day, they'd play their music a lot and none of their songs ever made me turn my head.

Grateful Dead music has never really interested me personally that much, there are a few of their songs that are really noteworthy to me. but from what I've noticed, you have to be a real hardcore drug addict to truly appreciate their music, because most of it won't make sense unless you're high on hallucinogens or other drugs.

>from what I've noticed, you have to be a real hardcore drug addict to truly appreciate their music, because most of it won't make sense unless you're high on hallucinogens or other drugs.
This notion that you have to use drugs to like the Grateful Dead is nonsense. I mean, I do drugs, but I liked the dead at least five years before I started smoking weed. And come on, "hardcore drug addict"?

The band has an unusually strong cultural following, hence the false notions that you need to do this or that to like them, but I know multiple people who only drink a few beers here and there that love the Grateful Dead. The Grateful Dead has a sort of integrity about them that few bands capture. They also push messages of love and kinship in their music, which contributes to the vibes they try to generate. Musically speaking, I've always appreciated their mixing of talented soloists with average vocalists. Their consistent refusal to utilize auto-tune live gives their music a very authentic sound, a nice contrast from the over-produced norms.

Give the song, Terrapin Station, a listen.

I haven't been exposed to much death metal, but I'm interested in learning more about the genre.

What I have heard is all Nile albums, most Deicide albums, some Debauchery and Darkthrone's Soulside Journey.

I know that Cannibal Corpse is considered one of the "classics" of the genre but something about it is off-putting to me, maybe it's just too over the top, I don't know.

Nile and Debauchery are both considered "brutal death" so I'm interested in that as well as any of the masterpieces that all death metal fans should know, and what's been going on in the past few years if there's been any recent, highly-rated new releases.

I liked Plastic Beach but not because the music was particularly good. I liked its overarching message. Plus the album felt cohesive and the tracks were well arranged, I think.

I'm not a die hard Gorillaz fan though. I liked Demon Days a lot and like I said I liked Plastic Beach. Haven't listened to the new album though.

Well so far it's been rated a 5/10 by most fans but there's still 40-45 songs that Damon said he hasn't finished/released yet for the b-side album so i'd wait until those come out & then listen to both albums so maybe you won't be so disappointed with their new direction. But there's a chance the new songs are gonna sound just like the ones on Humanz because Jamie announced that Gorillaz are getting their own series with 10 episodes which must be the reason Damon took this route with the new album. Damon & Jamie have always had creative differences over the years but this one is gonna take the cake.

Listened to it all the way through for the first time just now. I like it's overall theme of "party on the precipice of the apocalypse." I think people on average are pretty cynical/jaded/hateful these days, so I appreciate the upbeat, danciness sprinkled with political messages. Like someone else said, it loses some steam halfway through. Gorillaz have never released a project that I didn't like, and that still holds true with this album.

Also worth checking out, Gorillaz performed "Feel Good Inc." on Clobert last week and Colbert did the rap verses

I used to work in a kitchen where we heard that album almost everyday, and the lyrical juxtaposition in the chorus makes no sense.

Of course satellites would never make love, yeah her friends give her bad advice, I get that part, but why satellites? It literally could be any other word, aside from the fact it's there to rhyme with "tonight" and "advice" for no reason. What comparison is being made? Why do satellites never really make love? Because their inanimate? Who knows? Really dumb lyric but catchy song.

Also look up Schoolboy Q if you want something similar.

I think by satellites he's referring to moons, not the machines and that moons tend to orbit around a body but never make contact unless something goes really wrong in the celestial plane.

Seemed poetic to me and the tune is just catchy.

What's some musical gear you guys have? Gear you guys want? Current guitar? Dream guitar? Anything that makes electronic beep boops? Whatever it is, post it.

I'm recently just getting back into playing guitar after taking way too long of a break and I think I'm gonna invest in a new one when tax time comes soon. Well, not really a "new" guitar, but one of these old Harmonys from the late 60s/early 70s. In fact, I think I may start collecting a few of the cheaper Japanese guitars made around this time. The Kays, Silvertones, Teistos, etc. Just love the body styles of these things. Plus I can't think of anything much better as a nice, cheap project guitar.

I knew a guy that had one of these that kept it around to play garage rock/fuzz stuff on, and it sounded great for what it was. Like, surprisingly great as long as you're running it through a good tube amp. I'm not positive but I believe the pickups are microphonic. Which definitely isn't much of a desirable thing these days, but it just has a really distinct, warm tone and a nice twangy sound to it. Plus it's cheap as fuck and you can find them pretty commonly. Really excited to get one of these stupid cheapo things.

I was considering buying one of the Squier Jaguars for a good garage sound, but considering how much cheaper this is I really don't think I can pass it up. The Jaguar is obviously the better and more desirable of the two, without question, but considering I'm really fond of this one and can pretty much get it for pocket change, I think I'll be making the right move. I still definitely want the Jaguar though. I'll have to pick it up down the line.

Also gonna pick up an Orange Mini Dark and turn my current solid state combo into a cabinet for it, and I'll likely pick up a BOSS DS-1 pedal, unless someone can recommend any better of a distortion pedal for around the same price. Music on the cheap is best music, mah bois.

Another method is to buy 2 large pieces of plywood, drill aligning grids of 2 inch holes in both. Place plywood #1 on top of some strategically placed hockey pucks, put tennis balls in the holes, and place plywood #2 on top. Tennis balls absorb most of the vibrations, hockey pucks take care of the rest. If you don't have a vehicle big enough for the plywood, just put hockey pucks under everything. Not quite as effective, but still makes a huge difference.

What DMW do you use for music production? I'm new to it, but have been playing around in FL studio, recently, I decided to take a course on Ableton Live 9 which starts next week since they had a heavy discount on it..
I've asked a few people and they say lots that they like Ableton but looking into it, I was checking tutorials and all of the videos were made by people on macs.. I admit I am very judgemental when it comes to macs because they have limited options as well as for programs, so it made me wonder if this is mostly just popular for "limited mac users" which kills the whole interest for me.. So what program/s do you use? And why? Have you tried any other? Why do you prefer the one you're using and would you recommend Ableton?

Wasn't sure if this belonged in Engineering or Transportation, but it had to do with music so here it posts. Installed this in my 2016 Ford Fiesta hatchback over the weekend: Big 3 alternator upgrade kit, Sundown Audio 12" sub, Sundown Audio 1000w monoblock amp, XS Power XP950 battery, and LC2i. Here's a video: https://youtu.be/jn0ZZlGanKU

What do you guys have?
