Hey /m/,
I am currently running on:
  • Fender Acoustasonic Jr (no DSP)
  • Boomerang III Looper
  • Martin DCPA5 acousitc electric
There's an XLR input for a mic on my amp but I am wanting to run it through the looper. Since the mic runs at mic level and the looper needs instrument level, how would I go about doing this? More than likely i'll need a little mixer as I have been reading on other people's setups. However, could these output jacks be used to run through the looper? I am not too comfortable around the technicalities of all this but am dipping my claws.
Pic is the 3 plugs on the back of the Acoustasonic.

Not sure what you're trying to accomplish. Are you trying to get your looper to record the sounds after the amp has done everything or just after preamp?

The power amp isn't or at least shouldn't be changing the sound too much. Just run the fx send to your looper, run the loopers out to the fx return. Then you get whatever the preamp is doing into the pedal and that plays it back into the power amp.

Unless you are looking for the cab sounds and shit, then you just need to mic it and send that into a small mixer and then into your looper and return it to the mixer for it to go to monitors or speakers or something so you can hear it.

I don't see where the post-preamp signal would damage anything being line level and the instrument signal normally going into the looper at instrument level. I've done it multiple times and in nearly every configuration with my digitech jam man. You just need to be careful to mute your amp and turn up volume if you go between each one. You can really rattle your cage by recording a loop out of the preamp and then feeding the post-preamp signal or loop back into the preamp and then into the power amp. Effectively preamping the signal twice.

If your looper has any rhythm banks or options, they will sound like shit through the preamp so don't even bother plugging your guitar into the looper if you want the drum patterns and shit. I almost exclusively plug my looper into the FX loop. Well, I don't anymore because I have my guitar feeding into my Multi-FX board, then that feeds the loop and the looper feeds the poweramp. I only use the preamp for recording or live. Effectively making a 1k dollar tube amp worthless lol. I just use the shitty Pee-Vee solid state for power amping my Multi-FX/looper signals.

Nah, it's because a lot of people don't emotionally connect with the whiney angsty-ness of it.

I love the birthday massacre but they have clearly watched the movie Labyrinth too many times and damn near every other 80s fantasy movie too. plus, the band members themselves look like hilarious parodies of mid 00s mallgoth. the quality of the music itself has managed to stay surprisingly consistent, but I haven't listened to their newest album.

>>449588
I can ignore the angst since it's wrapped up in movie tropes and a largely incomprehensible story. I have a similar feeling about panic at the disco and coheed and cambria. coheed takes it too far sometimes though, there's literally two self insert characters and three based on his ex girlfriend. if you're not paying attention you'll never notice but fucking wow.

>>449580
a lot of the criticism is undeserved and they're talented musically, but their stories are a little silly, even if the wordplay can be good. I got kinda bored with their last two albums too. the only songs I can even remember off the top of my head are boy division and nanananana something something. I sure did like boy division though.

No but OP said "don't talk shit" and I'm going to respect that. There are other reasons, but even if I was right (which I might not be) and MCR were objectively shit it wouldn't mean you're a bad person. I mean you could be a guy who loves fast food above all else and that doesn't mean you're a bad person, you just don't appreciate good food but no one has time to become a cultured master of everything or even most things. What makes someone a bad person is being an asshole or a stupid pedo goblin ban evading shitposter with XedgyX names unironically. Know what I'm saying?

Periphery. On one hand, the lyrics on the last couple of albums include a huge number of teen angst cliches from a band in their early 30s. On the other when they're not just being a vehicle for vocals the whole band are talented and their best songs are super idea dense. A bit wanky at times but I think they love what they do, it's mostly just the lyrics that make me feel guilty listening to them. Like I bought their newest album and they might think that the lyrics are a factor in that.

Some guy on some board once recommended me an electronic band / group / guy / whatever with mouse in the name and it was dope as fuck but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. no it wasn't deadmau5

If you know one with mouse in the name I'd love it if you could just drop it here and help me figure out what the fuck it was because it's driving me mental.

I'm making some hardcore/sludge at the moment, the thing is I'm primarily a guitarist but have been writing some lyrics for it that I want to record, but when I scream it has too much 'fullness' sort of like Agnostic Front or something, I want to get a raspy sound halfway between black metal and death metal like Iron Monkey, Weedeater, Buzzoven, Grief and Eyehategod, how do I go about achieving that sound? I plan on smoking 2-3 cigarettes and having a few shots of whiskey before recording to dry out my throat a bit, but I was wondering if any of /mu/ knows any tricks to get this particular effect. Here's any example of what I want to sound like for anyone who isn't versed in those bands or genres https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQmrChMHfr0 [Embed] thanks for any help

Forgo your diaphragm and make it come from the back of your throat and look up when you do vocals. Or really anything that makes your neck longer rather than compressed down.

Also try and think of your vocals at the front of your mouth and being airish. Gutteral or fullness comes from your vocals sort of positioned deeper or inside you. Try and push your voice farther away from you as you scream.

You know, this board is something that works better for things that last at least a month. It's always been slow, but especially slow lately.

Good idea for a thread but you'll need files that last a lot longer, I'd be down to do another /m/ group effort it's been a few years since we had one I think.
