Hello /m/. I have made a thing.

This discography contains all existing DJ Clonepa music known to humankind. This includes LPs, EPs, compilations, and singles.

Many of these tracks are not available anywhere else on the web and came from either now defunct sites (ex. Clonepa's old Myspace) or were never released tracks that were aquired from Clonepa himself.

Please enjoy!

Hey! I've been putting together an avant garde web opera for awhile now, and have finally decided that it's time to start letting some of that content out! Ha Trig Beat is about a private investigator who speaks primarily in quotes from Shakespeare hunting down the Bird of Night at the behest of a delirious Joycean woman in red.
The music is done on a variety of found objects and instruments that I have built.
Enjoy!

I'm on a mobile right now so I can't listen to the .flac yet. But everyone has the same issues starting out when they work on mixes. Then you get all this well intended, but for starters garbage advice online about the tiniest details of each plugin involved in loudness, and they all piss on limiters....

Here's the deal- you're a huge man and we learn best through imitation and imagination. Spend hours upon hours for months mixing your tracks. Other tracks, sample projects and any sounds you can.

After plenty of thorough experimenting with your mixing arsenal, THEN read up on other people's advice and techniques for a certain sound.

There is no other way. Explore.

I'm super new to music production. I set everything up a month ago. This seems like a good place to ask for advice. I'm using Ableton Live 9 Suite and Max. I chose the Push 2 as my first piece of hardware. I have a basic grasp of Ableton from watching YouTube videos. I haven't done anything in Max yet. I'm still exploring the capabilities of the Push 2 but can make clips/loops. I get how record a bit, change the loop, and then keep recording. I get how to layer tracks and add different things at different parts to make a song. For someone who didn't even have computer access for a few years and never had the privilege to play an instrument or study music, my learning is off to a good start. I have a list of books I'm going to buy and online classes I will take. My goal for tonight is to learn how to shape my sounds though. For example... I don't like any of the drum kits I load on the Push 2. My friend said something about how I could edit samples to make my own drum kit. I could also record myself playing various chords and make loops with them but... I don't know how to explain... I'd like to know what I could change and how. I could list some of my favorite artists but basically their noises sound more interesting and well rounded than any of the noises I am using. It might be time to graduate to VST/plugins but it will take a couple of months to save money for them. (Is that basically my issue? I need to start using those?) What can I do with what I have now? With both chords and samples. Sorry if this is too annoying or vague. I really should just utilize the books and classes instead of asking the internet to spoonfeed me but here I am. Any advice is appreciated.

Don't obsess too much over creating your own sound. Copy things you like and use them as tools to learn how to use your instruments. If you wanna spend a day learning how to load your own samples for the push do that, but don't go on thinking you're gonna come out with a track or anything.

Take everything one part at a time and in the future all the sounds and knowledge will fit into a bigger picture as needed. Have fun

Test out each audio effect and midi effect that come with Live 9 Suite one by one. Learn what each parameter of each one does and how it affects the sounds you apply them to. It will take time, but eventually you will be able to morph any sound into something different that sounds like what you're imagining in your head.

Learn how to harness the power of Simpler.

Just tinker with everything until you know how and when to utilize each feature, then start getting into VSTs outside of what came with Suite.

That's what I did anyway, and I'm quite satisfied with my capabilities in Ableton, however I know nothing about Max and have been meaning to learn for the longest time, as I think it allows one to be original on an even deeper level, but holy shit it seems like such a workload to get into it, but I digress. You'll probably be better off since you're also getting those books and classes,.

Most electronic music uses processed samples from classic roland drum machines like the 606,808,909 which are all in ableton. Try using some of those kits and putting some effects on it.

Put a saturator on kick drum, give it some drive. Put multi band dynamics on the samples and tweak the settings.

Craziest show I ever been to was the Cadillac Tramps, who tend to attract a lot of cholos, and the Smut Peddlers who tend to attract a lot of skinheads. Everything was fine during the peddler's set but in the middle of intermission all the skins started chucking their bottles at the cholos and the cholos tossed theirs right back.

This is one of the more legit venues in the area, like these days all the big hip hop acts go through there, Rae Sremmurd, they just had lil Yachty and Odd Future and Lil B have made their rounds through there. So security turns up the lights and break things up. Then once security got off the dance floor there was a huge brawl. I guess the venue suspected this might happen so they had the cops on stand by, who burst in and made everyone go outside. Eventually they let everyone back in for the rest of the show, but apparently fights broke out in the parking lot, some dude got stabbed and the whole thing was just a huge mess. On the plus side I really haven't seen that many skinheads at shows since then.

Best show I ever went to was the Briefs, they're like if the Buzzcocks were from Seatle instead of England. They usually play this bar down here that holds maybe 200 people, and they had packed the place. Some girl came all the way from Japan to see them and she beat the shit out of everyone between her and the stage to get to the front, it was hilarious.

What about you guys? Local faves we might catch on the road? Some big mainstream act with a crazy multimedia performance (one of my biggest regrets is not seeing MJ before he died)?

My and my girlfriend at the time went down to see we are THE PHYSICS' last ever performance at a tiny wee festival in the Lake District in 2015. They are in my top 5 alltime favourite bands. Their live shows were great fun, beside the awesome songs they had all these funny set pieces and live antics, and having been to a couple of their other gigs we knew what to expect. One thing they did, the singer would say "hey, people often ask us, what's it like being in we are THE PHYSICS? And we say, it's fuckin easy, anyone can do it, can anyone here play guitar?" and some people in the crowd would put their hand up, so he'd pick one and say "what's your name?"
"Albert"
"What's that? Brian?"
"No, Alb-"
"Okay Brian, in the middle of this song we'll get you up, take Chris' guitar and just do whatever you like"
Then at a break in their song "All My Friends Are JPEGs" they clap and go Brian! Brian! Brian! Brian! as he gets up to take the guitar. On the drive down I was like hey honeybunny wouldn't it be cool if I was the final Brian? So when it came to this bit she launched me headfirst onto the stage, so I got to play guitar with one of the greatest bands in the world, at their last ever gig! I nearly cried from beaming so much

You ever get weird shit go wrong, like in a chain of production cables, and everything about it makes you trial/error and come up with the wrong thing?

Just now whilst setting up my decks for the first time in ages, the right channel just wasnt working. Nothing would come out panned right. Left monitor fine. Eventually I thought great mixers fucked but then when I persevered it turned out that both right sides of the rca cables had randomly gone dead, Id not even unplugged both of the decks.

So I stripped both the cables apart and made a new working one out of 2 left cables. One red, one purple. They are the swanky rcas which look and cost like they arnt meant to break. So uncanny that they would both break at the same time, to the point where I thought my mixer was broken. I tried many different tests and that definately what's happened.
Does my head in.
