So, I would like to find a good source for free, cc-licenced music,
ranging from punk, metal to epic orchestral or electronic and industrial
(without vocals!).

Can you recommend anything?

I've waded through a shit-ton of mediocre to ear-bleeding bad tracks on free-music-archive and free-sounds.

What do you guys think of this album on its own?
What about relative to the whole of Pink Floyd's work and compared to other albums?
It was immensely commercially successful and set records for live shows for the band, but some people say this album proved that Pink Floyd had no place in the 80's.
What about compared to The Division Bell, the record to follow?

This is one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums, and one of my favorites overall. The first one after Roger Waters left, the sting of that breakup can be felt all through this album, fueling a fire for lyrics and wonderful production. David Gilmour is an excellent frontman.

....So, what's your guys opinions on DSD? Is it really that much better than FLAC and does what 24bit can't?
Hamilton Duckville - Fri, 04 May 2018 22:09:46 EST ID:a14ROl0Y No.453458 Ignore Report Quick Reply
DSD is a glorified copyright protection scheme. It has zero sonic benefits and requires special hardare to play natively. If anything, the ultrasonic noise inherent to DSD makes it worse than PCM. Fuck Sony. The only reason to mess with it is if you're looking for a specific "remaster" of an old album. The DSD release of Michael Jacksons Thriller, for example, sounds excellent. Because DSD is impossible to edit digitally, they essentially skip the mastering stage and just rip it straight from the original tapes.

hey guys just posting a clip of me singing a little lyric a few times. hows my voice sound/. can yall hear the vibrato? what are your thoughts on vibrato? and what think about the underlying rythem behind natural vibrato?
Cedric Billywud - Fri, 08 Jun 2018 17:23:21 EST ID:rGHu4g/a No.453637 Ignore Report Quick Reply
Yeah you can hear it. It doesn't sound like natural vibrato though, it's a bit too fast and stabby. If you're singing with correct technique, vibrato will happen naturally - but when it comes to pop music etc. singing "correctly" is less important than singing expressively, so I guess you can just sing however you like too. You don't want to sound like you're putting it on though (which you do a bit here), and you don't want to sing in an unhealthy way that damages your voice

im glad to get a second opinion on this , really its amazing to talk about it. IDK if youve been to jail before but when you go for a long time you end up meeting people who SING literally SING the entire time. and a few of them sound fricken amazing! Around my 4th month in I started singing manically, having never sang before and tried to sing as loud as i possibly could.

Well around month 5 my voice started naturally making vibrato, i guess not great vibrato hence your comment. but ever since ive been FASCINATED by the phenomena, appreciating songs ive never taken the time to listen to. so REALLY any talk around this is appreciated
John Pittford - Thu, 21 Jun 2018 20:17:44 EST ID:5s4XgJU3 No.453711 Ignore Report Quick Reply
holy shit you started singing in jail? You know when you wonder what you'd do if you were stranded on a desert island or something? I always thought to myself if I was ever in jail or solitary confinement or something I'd just sing sing sing. Crazy to hear that people actually do that. Did it annoy you to have to listen to it all the time, even if some people were really good? And did you ever piss anyone else off? Were you ever surprised by what someone was singing? Would love to learn more about this.

You do sound like you're quite comfortable and self assured using your voice, and it has a nice timbre. I know a lot of singers who are classically trained, and their vibrato doesn't sound like yours, but I'm not a knowledgable enough singer to be able to pick up much about the specifics of your technique from the voice clip. Also I've read that vibrato stems from the same mechanism as the one that makes your arms shake involuntarily when you're eg lifting a heavy weight that you're not used to, and it's meant to protect your muscles. Or something. But I'm not entirely sure how to control the frequency of it correctly - I think it's better to focus on more fundamental parts of your technique, and good vibrato will just be a byproduct of that. Then again, singing "correctly" is only part of it. Look at Joanna Newsom

I've been looking for good music from this era since modern popular music is trash. I get immense joy of the fashion and hair of the era as well.
If you wanna help me in discovering this obviously great era, I want stuff that was actually played on TV or such. Also no metal, alt-rock or grunge etc. Why? These genres haven't really gone forward, and with the advancements in technology good and unique synthetisator sounds have been replaced with sterility and I like the rougher drum machine beat for example.

1 - what is this, does anyone know about it, its so uplifting Im usually into industrial, rap, metal, techno, country and such so this isnt something i would even be likely to come across but i fuckin love it its making me feel so happy lol, and not only was i wondering if anyone could point me towards some more of this upbeat happy japanese stuff but also if anything thats similar genre instrumentation wise but a little more melancholy? Like the post-punk to this punk if it was punk? Rambling a bit and not sure how to get my point across but basically i want to discover the emotional and instrumental variants in this jap folk or whatever it is? also just any other good japanese music that's not just like oriental weeb shit but I mean like new shit from japan and anything surreal or weird not knocking classical asian music but it's not what I'm after, I like the way they use mainly acoustic instruments I'd like to see more innovative jap music like this since all I really know of their scene is grindcore and extreme metal
