Is there any real way for me to determine whether or not what just happened to me was a mild seizure?

I had been taking large quantities of etizolam daily, and then moderate doses of flubromazolam after that (nothing too insane, I think at one point 1.75-2 milligrams. Then obviously I ran out.

I haven't felt any real withdrawal symptoms, unless depression counts, but I was already depressed. I took a very large quantity of doxylamine and melatonin before trying to sleep a few hours ago, but only succeeded in drifting in and out slightly, which is normal for me. But around 3 AM I got sick of it and drank a few shots of liquor to try to help me relax and sleep. I realize now that was fucking stupid because alcohol lowers the seizure threshold.

Maybe half an hour after this while lying in bed, I started hearing music, it seemed like actual music, not just something you're remembering in your head. It wasn't a song I could recognize. Shortly after that I got lightheaded, felt cold, and started shaking violently. It passed pretty quickly, or at least I think it did. I think I was able to move my hand during it, but I'm not completely sure. I guess there's no real way for anyone here to help, I'm just not sure if I need to seek medical attention.

Sorry to hear that. Doxylamine, I think has a dose limit where any more than say twice the recommended dosage is more hazardous than it is worth trying to sleep taking much
much more. Where sleep is in and out of sleep disturbances rather than actual sleep.

If twice the recommended dosage for sleep does not work, leave it be I would say.

Good luck, try to keep away from the rc drugs, some sound to be pretty hazardous
on their own. Not trying to sound like the dea spokesperson or whatever, but one
spokesperson did bring up a point. (Emphasized) 'were not trying to prosecute users,'
but just a warning to please be careful, that the drugs could be produced in an impure or
crude manner that could have unwanted effects.

At about this time of the year last yeari went ona sierra expedition and was exposed to some high altitude sun. Most of the timei was on the lake water fishing. When i got back to the cityi noticed this blemish that had appeared by my eye (note, i also wear glasses)
Fast forward a year and the blemish still hasn't gone away. I have no insurance or money really soi haven't gone to seea doctor. I present this dilemma to you /med/ical specialists. Does this look like the dreaded 'c' word or a precursor to?
I've checked reference pictures on Google and though it doesn't look like melanoma it still worries me.

I'm not a doctor but do have experience working in the hair & skincare industry, some health & wellness too. It's hard to say anything because your pic is showing very warm toned, wondering what it would look like if you toned the warm tones of your photo down, lightened it some & maybe adjust the contrast a tad. From what I see it looks a tad like a possible fungal infection. You have to be careful because it's near your eye but a little online research will show several natural products that can be of benefit to dealing w/fungus. To start try a little organic unprocessed coconut oil (great for skin, hair or taken internally. Has anti microbial, anti fungal properties, absorbs really well into skin.) it melts w/contact to the skin so in your clean hands I'd mix a dab of coconut oil w/1 or all of the following; a couple drops of grapefruit seed extract (can be taken internally too, very anti fungal, anti bacterial, etc), 1 drop of teatree oil (anti fungal, anti microbial good for a variety of issues, smells bad DO NOT get this into your eyes, nose or mouth it will burn real bad, a drop of oregano oil (anti fungal, can be taken orally also.
That should be a good starting point. I'd mix a small amount in your hand or a tiny bowl, mix only what you'll need for 1-2 applications because to make enough to last you days on end would require some other steps to prevent bacteria, preserve it, etc. after you've mixed coconut oil w/the extracts &/or essential oils dab a small amount onto your spot 1-2 a day for a week. Make sure you always wash your hands especially before & after you touch this spot so you don't transfer any bacteria to it or from it to other body parts or people. This is a very safe combination to try & at the very least will be soothing. Remember not to get it into your eye! The coconut oil becomes a liquid very easy so a tiny dab on the spot will do, you don't want your mix to run into the eye. Wash hands when done. I'd also go a step further & tell you to wash your face every day w/something mild like Cetaphil & frequently wash your washcloths, towels, sheets, etc just in case this is anything that can r…

Anybody else busy preppin'? I'm getting murdered on the protein/enzyme analysis questions from the AAMC's section bank. Hardest of all were the passage problems where the researchers sequentially replace side-chain amino acids to see how the active site conforms differently. Kaplan barely scratched the surface of Km/Kcat. Any recommendations on where to go to obtain the bio skills I lack?

Hey guys,

A few months ago, I visited a dermatologist after a year and a half of inexplicable hair shedding and scalp redness, and I was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis and prescribed topical steroids and Nizoral shampoo to put it in remission. This eventually got it under control, but since then it's kept flaring back up. I've worked on many of the main culprits: I've been sleeping properly, I'm not stressed, and I've cut back on the amount of alcohol I drink and junk food I eat, but it's really persistent, and when it comes back it typically takes a week or so to get back under control. Google searches provide a lot of conflicting and/or dubious information, so I decided to see if you guys would have any ideas about how to prevent these flare-ups. Thank you.

The dermatologist visit was really productive. She found:

1) I don't just have SD; I also have telogen effluvium, which is the main culprit for my hair loss (my SD is much more under control than I realized at this point)
2) My instincts to stop using the steroids were correct.
3) She told me to stop using dandruff shampoo daily, and to use conditioner as well
4) She said I should take a biotin supplement until my TE gets under control and my hair grows back
5) She told me to go on Rogaine for a year to speed up the recovery process.
6) I shouldn't just be cutting back on drinking and fast food/junk food. I need to completely eliminate them from my diet. Beyond that I don't need to make any special dietary changes (I had been reading stuff online that also said to cut out a shitload of potential food allergens like citrus fruit, wheat, and dairy as well)
7) I should schedule an appointment with my GP for blood tests to see if I have any vitamin deficiencies, anemia, or autoimmune problems.

As someone with the same issue, I alternate between selson blue and head and shoulders.
I recently went to see a rheumatologist for an unrelated issue and she brought up a point that this might exist (or at least so prominently) as a sign of immune system issues and certain things could be linked, but that's as far as I've gotten between visits. Next time you see your GP or whatever, try asking a few additional questions about it and see where it goes.

Don't scratch at it. It only makes it worse by making it thicker and more active. I've got it through psoriasis and in the past few years it's popped up on my legs and as nail psoriasis. The nail stuff comes and goes but boy is it annoying. Makes it way too easy to catch my nails on things and get hurt. I haven't experienced any hair loss unless I excessively scratch at it. Steroids help but only short-term. Aloe vera can be beneficial but you have to apply it like 4+ times a day. Drinking aloe vera gel is effective but makes my tummy rumbly.

I imagine this made things much worse for me. When it first started, the main issue was that my scalp would get really greasy, which made my hair clump together and look like it was thinning. To cover it up, I'd comb obsessively. After about a year and a half I stopped doing this and the shedding decreased by half (though it was still a lot).

I recently got my bloodwork back from my GP. Most things came back normal (no autoimmune issues or anything like that), but my HDL cholesterol levels are very low (39mg/dL).

holy wow the pain. I've had them in episodic bouts for a few years now. I've tried drugs and injections but they dont seem to be too effective.

The only thing that has seemed semi-effective is drinking a full glass of water every 30 mins at least. That only reduced the number I get by about half.

Im wondering what anyone here might do to help with them. I've read that high doses of oxygen via masks can be effective, anyone have experience with it?

If you do decide trying it, make sure to read up as much as you can on their effects and see if youre comfortable with the idea. OP, your cluster headaches could stem from over-exertion in the muscles of your neck, like you might need to relax your neck. Or, you could have a problem with the flow of blood in your brain. A neurologist can really help you. Also, Excedrine also helps a ton.

My neurologist cured my migraines by giving me muscle relaxers. I take them before bed, my neck muscles relax a ton, and I honestly haven't had a migraine in months now that I think about it, where as I used to get them daily and then load up on excedrine.

Any way to tell if I killed my liver? Google's not doing shit for me. I've been doing Robitussin pills chronically and am paranoid.

Go to a doctor and get some blood tests, basically covers all basic liver kidney and maybe 50 different levels for abnormalities, pancreas (my guess would be high) kidneys, liver. Past experiences levels tested for seem to be accurate from lab results from different labs. Even if one feels healthy it is not a bad idea to do
once a year.

Best bet is see a doctor. The results would be sent to a lab and a doctor could recognize
abnormal results. A lab would do his for a doctor as well. Just mention you took to much
whatever for an extended period of time not realizing possible hazards but kept feeling
crummy even with the medications.

Just ask for general exam, that you generally do not feel real well. If you mention deliberate abuse it may follow your medical history around so think about how you explain things. Results may take a few days, 4 days.

Insurance helps.

I've recently just discovered how important iodine is for your body. Now knowing all of the amazing benefits taking iodine can have, I just purchased Lugol's iodine solution and am wondering the dosages. I'm not sure how many drops to take. I bought the 2% Lugol's. Also, I have a 14 month old toddler and I haven't seen anything online about how many drops to give myself AND my son. It's very frustrating because I don't want him to overdose but I also want my son to be healthy as can be. Please help :( 25 year old female if it means anything.

Sorry to burst your bubble but in general in the western world our normal diets provide more vitamins and minerals than we need. 95% of the population will be getting enough and supplementing over and beyone this has no benefit.
Historically there are some countries that lack iodine in the soil (eg New Zealand as far as I remember) which led to conditions such as hypothyroidism, goitre and cretinism. Now days table salt is supplemented with iodine to prevent this, but the amount of food grown and imported from overseas largely makes this unnecessary.
Different countries have different recommended doses of minerals, but a quick search shows the RDI of iodine for your son to be 90 micrograms per day and for you 150mcg per day. Im not sure how much is in a drop of your solution so you may need to try calculate that. Aim to take the RDI although remember that you will be getting more than the recommended daily intake as your normal foods will have iodine in too, although this will not be harmful.
Feeding your son (and yourself) a healthy, balanced and varied diet is the best thing you can do to make sure he is also getting all the other micronutrients he needs

You already get way more iodine than you need if you live in a developed country and eat regularly. The saly alone in foods these days gives you plenty of iodine. Dont do anything silly and take too much, iodine poisoning is not nice.

I now show trembling hand and foot (right one) and i cant hold stuff in my hands, but the worst part is DEMENTIA. like increasing nightmare modus.

Try to rule out the possible causes. If it is something natural and not industrial related it could be a big help to identify it early. If industrial could help narrow things down by the type of chemicals you have worked with.

so i looked it up and everything is says is: nonionic surfactants and ionic surfactants.
I started drinking hot lemon tea in the mornings and thats about it, but i dont htink it really helps. I also noticed that trembling and being off-track is high in the morgnings and evenings. i made an appointment to the doctor, so i might be fine for now.

So I have a problem.
Yesterday I woke up, and I don't remember noticing it immediately so perhaps it came on at some point in the middle of the day, but it seemed like my body stopped doing the whole autobreathing thing. I was laying in bed on the verge of sleep and I'd keep jumping out of it realizing that I had stopped breathing. And I noticed this the rest of the day, while also feeling that I had a lump in my throat.

Going to sleep I had to power through the feeling of not breathing and eventually it worked and I woke up later. At this point in the day I am feeling better, as the lump in my throat has diminished in feeling. The breathing is still a bit weird, but I had thought that it was getting better because I'd notice myself not paying attention to it for bits, so I assumed that I must have been autobreathing.

However, I just now noticed something really fucked up. I can hold my breath without my body telling me that I'm doing something bad. I just held it for 30 seconds with no part of my brain being like "whoa dude you shouldn't be doing that." What the fuck? Does anyone know what might be going on?

The one thing that came to mind for me was the night before I took an ibuprofen but coughed in the middle of swallowing it, so it was an awkward swallow. However, I didn't feel weird or anything at the time, but is it possible that it's somehow related?

had this sensation a couple of times and got freaked out so i stayed awake. dont know what to do against it. what i realised though is, that i keep my breath during the day. so when I am stressed out or feeling numb I start inhaling, keeping breath in till my belly expands and then release with a slight dizzyness. doing a tiny bit yoga exercises (just for the breathing though without prezl poses) helped to maintain the times where I keep my breath short. Now i realised that I start breathing loudly in and holding breath for a short time, but I release soon afterwards. not good to watch but its an improvement. when i dont do those exercises i fall back into my old habit though

I'm currently studying a module on Psychiatry and another module on 'Health and Happiness'. In both modules, the concept of what 'Health' is has come up. In both areas, there seems to be a fairly strong suggestion that cultural relativism is involved.

One medical case is that of sickle cell disease; bad for Western societies, but good for areas where Malaria is prevalent.

For mental health, there is an issue that stigmatising alone can create a mental health problem. Erectile Dysfunction might be a physiological problem, but with a strong enough support group, not a mental problem. But then the same could be said of pedophilia, couldn't it? These are just some thoughts.

With health more generally, sometimes the environment is to blame, rather than the individual. We wouldn't want to say that a Jew was 'sick' in Nazi Germany, we'd rather say the social environment was sick. But again, this leans towards 'normative' judgements.

What are the thoughts of you folks here?

Im a 1st year med student and we talked about this extensively in the first semester.

Basically, it came down to 2 definitions. The first definition was complete objective health, with nothing wrong with you. As you can imagine, in many cases this is just impossible, more so when you think that many terminal diseases (aids, cancer, etc) have now become chronic, meaning that more and more of the general population is actually "sick". But although these diseases may not be curable, they are definitely curable, such as in the case of aids, where people can now live an almost normal life with a close to normal life expectancy. On top of this, the smallest cramp or pain would make you "unhealthy", which to me just sounds silly.

Now from this, it becomes evident that although one might be sick, their treatment and handling of their disease means that they may live a "normal" life. It can be argued that in this case, that although the person is sick, they are healthy, as it does not affect their life (to a great extent) and they can go on about their daily routine without being particularly "burdened" by their disease. This of course is a matter of opinion, but I think its fairly solid as an idea.

Of course, this approach looks at it from the individuals viewpoint and not societies and is mostly focused of physical rather than mental illness. I think that in mental illness, the stigma and ignorance that exists around it make it harder for a person with a mental illness to live their normal life, because many people simply dont understand it. To put it into an example, I think it would be easier for the average person to understand why it would be hard for someone in a wheelchair to go shopping due to the physical obstacles, but harder to understand why someone with a form of anxiety just cant handle the fear of talking to someone at the counter.

Relating to your comment about cultural relativism, I think that it influences the concept of health greatly. To demonstrate this ill give an example form personal experience.
