So I burned myself fairly bad but I'm not really sure if it's bad enough I should seek medical attention. I'm diagnosed bpd and it not the first time I've burned obviously but this is the worst one I've had in several years and I am lacking perspective as to whether it is bad or not

I am a psychologist. I went to school when I was 25, before that I was a cook. So as someone with experience with cuts abd burns, you're fine.

BPD as an acronym is used casually by both communities of suffferers, but BPD can mean two things: either bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder. Those are two very different things, especially since they both have elements of self-harm (burning, cutting, etc). There are profoundly important differences both in what these disorders arise from, and also how to best approach treatment, relief, etc. Once I know that I can offer better advice.

Keep the area clean and apply aloe vera. Since your disability is both somatoform and addictive in nature, try channeling the addiction and attention seeking parts into a skill, that way, you can still get the desired attention need through showing off your healthier behavior. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) has shown to be effective. I was a cutter for years until I completed it. They give you free snacks for doing it and it helps you gather skills to use instead of the trigger behavior. Try snapping with a rubber band instead, since sometimes these issues are sensory.

Fellow borderline here. Honestly, it looks like it's going to be okay. I recommend cutting yourself instead of burning if you gotta self-harm. Also, sorry you have BPD and were very upset; that's genuinely too bad.

You didn't ask but DBT is legit, as is EMDR (just cause borderline's usually from a trauma background). Hope you feel better soon.
