Hi guys. This isn't strictly MMA related, but do we have any experienced CMA guys on here? I've been doing Tai Chi for a few years and love it, I love doing the forms and the push hands and everything.
To make it more MMA related, why do you think we don't see more Sanda champions in UFC?

So I watch A LOT of street fight videos online. There are many videos where one of the fighters will get knocked out and have a seizure. Without fail, countless people in the comment section of these fights say things like "oh he's dead" or "when they seize, that means there is severe brain damage!". My question is this.....is it normal for someone who is knocked out to experience a seizure? Is it a sure indication that some REAL damage has occurred, or do people just seize sometimes when they get knocked out, and get back up again minutes later just fine?

A kid at a school I went to for a year of HS had this happen in a fight. He got hit with the first punch right in the temple, fell, convulsed and died an hour later. The kid that fought him got a manslaughter charge. I don't know the how and why of it other than the brain is sensitive but I know it happens.

>McGregor actually hugged as much as Mayweather. How that is possible I will never know.

I can throw my weight behind a punch, but my hand speed is slow. I trained myself to use momentum over speed, so while I generate alot of power, I don't generate as much force as a high velocity punch with weight behind it.

It just doesn't feel natural to me. So basically I trained myself wrong.

No thread for the biggest UFC PPV of the year? That's a paddlin'.

Huge main event, Cormier's entire career and legacy hinges on this fight. If he loses then it's all over for him. If Jones loses then it's no sweat off his sack since Dana is hustling hard to set up Jones-Brock for either the New Year's or Superbowl shows.

Woodley-Maia should be an interesting fight, too, as it's a classic wrestling vs. BJJ fight. Cyborg is going to murder a can, too, but who cares. Cerrone & Lawler are probably gonna beat the shit out of each other for 3 rounds, too, I'm thinking potential fight of the night if the main event disappoints. The corpse of Renan Barao has resurfaced for the prelims, too, so that should be a treat.

Hi there. Focus on yourself, you can't control what others do, but you can control how your react (or don't). Perhaps breathing exercises using Qui-Gong for reference is useful. If you are at ease, feeling good from internal control: a la the Tao's cliched "doing without trying", others' shit flinging is low impact or nil.

Doing without trying can be breathing at a comfortable natural pace without thinking about it. Then when you breathe intentionally and the rhythm messes up, that's the "with trying" part, excessive effort. Through diligent practice, by paying attention to, but not interfering with natural breathing, intentional breathing can become similarly natural. Being at peace is like a shield so to speak. One's awareness of their surroundings and their internal going-ons is more acute.

So here are the basics. Good Posture Makes Healthy Qi
>Correct posture enhances relaxation, balance, proper breathing, and energetic flow. It is essential that you understand and practice the basic physical mechanics of qigong, what the Chinese call diao shen "regulating the body," before concentrating on subtler, internal aspects, such as coordinated breathing or specific ways of focusing qi.

"The spine should feel long and open, with the shoulders relaxed, neither slouched nor pulled back. The elbows, knees, and fingers are all slightly bent rather than rigidly locked. The feet are generally flat on the ground. The chest feels easy and open, neither puffed out nor depressed. The abdomen and solar plexus are free of tension, allowing the breath to become slow, quiet, and deep. The whole body is alert, relaxed, and more fully alive." (pg. 86)

Relaxation: Quan Shen Fang Song
>"Whole body relaxed." The word fang means "to release," and it implies that relaxation is not merely the lack of tension. It is activity. Quan shen fang song is alive, alert relaxation. It means eliminating unnecessary tension, being supple and alert to the environment. Relaxation is the first and most important principle of qigong. It is often considered a system of qigong in itself.

The book I'm drawing from, The Way of Qigong: The Art and Science of Chinese Energy Healing, goes on to describe alot of different exercises from the whole body to specific parts, so become more aware of the body, thereby having greater control of yourself.

>>57803 (Pt II)

Relaxed Body, Relaxed Mind
>Emotions that have been repressed for long periods of time are armored into specific muscular tensions and postural defects. For instance, if we tense our throat when we are unhappy, rather than releasing the pressure of sorrow with tears, this might eventually become chronic neck pain. [..]

Unfortunately, these internalized tensions tend to stay with us. As we become used to tension, it becomes part of our reality and identity. These tension and the situation that engendered it lapse into unconsciousness. This is the root of many chronic psychosomatic disorders.

Through qigong practice, we learn how to bring tense areas of the body into the light of awareness. Awareness is so powerful that it is sometimes sifficient to change a fixed pattern of behavior. Emotions that have been locked into the tension come more easily into consciousness. Old memories and feelings thaw out, realeased from the frozen tissue. If this does not resolve the issue, it at least makes it available to work with, whether in one's own introspective process or with a psychotherapist.

[..] Awareness is the essential ingredient in relaxation. Once the student is aware, it is possible to feel what is wrong and to exercise some control. This is called ting jing, "listening to the energy." Listening to the energy leads to dong jing, "comprehending and controlling the energy." However, since tension and effort are the problems, awareness and relaxation, although certainly involving focus and intent, should be effortless, a process of surrendering. Can you try to relax? I think not. Relaxation is a matter of paying attention and not doing.

The Organ-Emotion Link
>Lao Zi suggests a distinction between healthy and unhealthy emotion in his classic Dao De Jing: "The highest virtue is not virtuous, and is thus virtuous"; that is, true virtue is not self-consciously or compulsively virtuous.

Compulsive do-gooders are really afraid of or denying their own aggression and hostility. They try always to do what is "best," preferring to be placating, submissive, or self-sacrificing rather than expressing or fighting for what they genuinely feel, lest they "make waves." "The sage is not a do-gooder," says Lao Zi. The sage is true to his or her nature, neither compulsively following nor rebelling against rules of conduct. The sage is capable of expressing emotions, including anger, as necessary and appropriate to the situation. He or she practices self-acceptance and is thus more accepting and understanding of others. The first step in self-acceptance is giving oneself permission to feel what one is feeling; then inner resistance and friction is lessened and much of one's anger is already gone.

War Machine gets 36 years to life in Christy Mack sexual assault case by Ron Keslar - Mon, 05 Jun 2017 21:26:30 EST ID:FeFxDNRI No.57765 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

A former UFC fighter has gotten a life sentence — with the possibility of parole — in a high-profile sexual assault case in Las Vegas.

War Machine, who competed on The Ultimate Fighter and also fought for Bellator, was sentenced to 36 years to life by a Clark County (Nev.) District Court judge Monday in a sexual assault and kidnapping case involving his ex-girlfriend Christine Mackinday.

War Machine, who was born Jonathan Koppenhaver, was found guilty on 29 of 34 charges in March, including counts for sexual assault and kidnapping. The 35-year-old will be 71 years old by the time he gets the opportunity at parole.

Judge Elissa Cadish told Koppenhaver that she didn’t think he was a “monster,” but a human being with good points and bad points. At trial, Koppenhaver’s defense mentioned issues he had in his youth, notably a hatred toward his mother. Cadish said she wished Koppenhaver had gotten needed help as a child, but still had to face the consequences of his actions as a grown man.

“As an adult, it’s up to you to address the issues that you had and certainly, as you know, it’s not appropriate to take it out on these other people around you,” Cadish said. “It’s not like this case is the first case. … There were many points along the way that should have been red flags that something had to change. I'm just grateful that we don’t have a murder case on our hands.”

Cadish said she still had to rule on a lengthy sentence to “avoid possible danger to future potential victims.”

Mackinday said at trial that Koppenhaver knocked out her teeth, broke her eye socket, fractured her rib and ruptured her liver in a 2014 attack. She said Koppenhaver attempted to rape her at knifepoint, but was unable to do so, and then chopped off her hair. Koppenhaver was also found guilty of battering the man Mackinday was with that night, Corey Thomas.

Mackinday, most known by her porn actress stage name Christy Mack, spoke at the sentencing hearing and said she believes Koppenhaver would kill her when he gets out of jail. Koppenhaver was offered 16 years to life previously and turned it down. Mackinday was not in favor of only 16 years.

lol. complete bullshit. How long until Dana cuts Mr. McMahon style promos between fights? I'm surprised they didn't put this on TV. The champ shouldn't have to fight a roided up woman if she doesn't want to.

How many times does the UFC put on a title fight where the challenger isn't even the #1 contender? de Randamie vs Megan Anderson would be just as good a match.

Also, UFC matchmaking with zero relation to rankings isn't anything new. In the post-McGregor world of the UFC they'll make whatever matches they think will generate bigger buyrates, regardless of whoever they rank as #1 or #2 on their own damn website.

including just stripping champions of their belts... mighty mouse is lucky there aren't a couple of big names in his division, i guess.

they can't have it both ways, like "cyborg is the top contender, you have to fight her", when a guy likes chael sonnen gets title fights...

in fairness, the middleweight division was a gong show the first time Sonnen fought Silva, and the second fight was justified by his performance in the first.

It is, however, highly bullshit that he got a shot against Jones in his first LHW fight.

Remember though, this is a contender getting a break, not the champ. I'd say the UFC has been pretty consistent with not allowing champions to duck a #1 contender.

This board is deader than disco but since this is 2 months away maybe people will see this by then. Anyways, the UFC is going to start a weekly TV show of live fights between guys on the verge of being cut for multiple consecutive losses, guys that were being squeezed out of their third guaranteed yearly fight on PPV and Fox cards, and I guess guys that haven't gotten a multi-fight contract from UFC yet. Mite be cool. The catch is that it'll be broadcast on Fight Pass, though, and I dunno anyone that's ever subscribed to Fight Pass.
