It's weed. Like, fuck me.

I don't even get the issue with cocaine either.

Steroids, sure. That's obvious. But weed and coke? Who gives a fuck what they do in their spare time?

dafuq?

Steroids are not bad in the least.
Use once a year - work out 3x harder than anyone else to maintain size.
You die at 50 because of all the speed and coke u took before the age of 50 - not the steroids themself.

Every single person to have died from 'steroids' has also been a known drug user and have abused themselves in other ways.
You can not pin point roids.

The issue with 'roids has always been people abusing them, meaning they aren't taking them for medical reasons and instead are shooting up for purely cosmetic reasons. It gets a bit iffy in a combat sport where 'rids can be used to goose strength and proper diet/weight-cutting techniques, which again all goes back to not using steroids in medically-approved way.

Big UFC news on steroids:

http://www.f4wonline.com/more/more-top-stories/97-ufc/41960-ufc-news-ufc-hires-jeff-novitzky

>Jeff Novitzky, the former FDA agent who became a well known celebrity investigator for his work regarding steroid and PED usage in sports in the BALCO case and involving superstar athletes like Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Lance Armstrong and Marion Jones, was hired today by UFC.

>The story broke within the last hour on twitter and the company confirmed it to us minutes ago and said a press release would be out shortly.

>Novitzky's role will be Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance.

>His role will be in house, and to, among other things, combat the use of PEDs in the company. For both image and also in getting a true expert on the realities of PEDs in major sports, UFC could not have made a stronger anti-PED statement with this hiring.

>The following is the press release from UF

I hate how Dana is trying to control his fighters like this. I get in-competition testing cause you become a danger to your opponent, and that shit doesn't fly at any "job". What benefits is he going to give the fighters for having to deal with this BS now?

Out of competition? Let guys live their lives.

>year long suspension vs 9 months
is that 3 months really going to change anything? they're just hurting their fighters for no good reason...

Hello /mma/,

I come from another Chan, (not the future), but I have always dreamed of a board specifically dedicated to MMA on an imageboard website. So I come to you as somewhat of a novice; all that I knew about 420chan was, as I was told, "as the name suggests the website focuses on marijuana discussion, as the name does not suggest there is a lot of discussion of professional wrestling." Or something along those lines.

Anyways, any excitement for this coming weekends UFC Fight Night 63 card? I think the main event is a bit of a mismatch. For me, Mendes would beat anyone at 145, except Aldo. (If anyone in the current division is going to beat Aldo, I'd say it's Mendes. Sorry McGregor.) A couple of other points of interest for me are that I'm one of the few Michael Chiesa fans, also I think Ron Stallings has potential.

So what say you /mma/? What are your predictions for the main event, or anything else related to the card?

OP back here.

Yeah I really like Iaquinta. But I do agree that Masvidal will be too much for him. Iaquinta has shown flashes of brilliance, but has been inconsistent. He's on a three fight win streak, but I can't shake off the feeling that it'll come to an end.

It sucks that the fights are on noonish this weekend. For me watching the fights hungover in my room alone won't be as fun, but oh well. I also hope that a Jackson-less Clay Guida won't be the boring fighter he's been for a while now.

Wait nevermind, the UFC (or Fox) actually uploaded it themselves.

It's so weird to see the UFC actually using Youtube to their benefit instead of just carpet-bombing DMCA complaints.

Article is a bit old but some of you guys might be interested, it's about Jason Thacker who was the first person eliminated on TUF1 and how his life has been since the series and how it was leading up to it. I won't spoil anything in it and the article is pretty lengthy but I think it's worth the read. I guess it shows the reality of what can happen to those who don't make it in MMA and have to give up on it.

He's only 33, and he's already had as many injuries as he's had. You don't get better from recovering from injuries, in fact, you get worse. He's already made enough money to retire on, that's why he quit in the first place (aside from the moral high ground of "we should be drug testing people" after being accused of being a PED user himself). The only thing that would really bring him back is if it's what he really wants out of life. Only GSP can answer that, I just happen to think his answer is to be able to train without risking injury as much and without his family bitching about how they don't want to see him get hurt in fights. I do hope I'm wrong, though.

I dont think GSP is coming back. All the recent ped problems have proven him right. He doesnt seem desperate for money. He took a lot of punishment in his last few fights and had a ton of injuries so I doubt he will want to return to that condition and his last fight showed that he no longer had much of an advantage over the current generation of welterweights.

Because why would UFC hire a fighter who wouldn't even be in a weight division. Strikeforce folded their own 145 division before the end, so I don't see UFC starting up a 145 for Cyborg any time soon either. Carano would be okay at catchweight because she doesn't have the PED failure hanging around her neck like an albatross and she has the Hollywood factor. We all know that Cyborg would need to do (or rather, not do) one thing to drop the muscle mass to get to 135. No reason to reward her for refusing.

Alright, so UFC has signed Cyborg. Here's the deal.

>Cyborg will fight in Invicta at 145 for her next fight in July

>UFC will be paying Cyborg for her Invicta fights

>UFC has hired a trainer to get Cyborg to have a 135 fight in Invicta by the end of the year

>If Cyborg wins her 135 fight, she'll fight Rousey next

>If Cyborg misses weight, heads will roll

I don't see how anyone BUT Cyborg can be blamed. Cyborg wants to fight a 135 fighter in a promotion with no 145+ division. Would you expect UFC to let Jon Jones fight Chris Weidman if they had no divisions above middleweight? And also if Jones had a PED failure on his record? Cyborg said over a year ago that she was trying to cut to 135 and has failed to do it. The fact that UFC is babying her by giving her a trainer to get her down a weight class is kind of embarrassing for Cyborg (even moreso if she ends up failing for PEDs again any time within the next two years). I see no reasons why Ronda should ever fight her at catchweight.

Its not begging for a title shot, this fight wasn't a fight. It did not show the potential these two have. That's the point of '' I wanna do it again'' because its obvious she didn't show what she truly can.
And I don't even like just throwing Cat now out in a fashion ''Ronda demolished her, who is next''. The situation simply happened, like many close situations happen but this one finished the fight. Like when JDS knocked out Cain, it happens but that did not show the true Cain who trashed JDS later on.

>>55329
If that knee landed in the liver where it was going, things would be interesting with that pressure that was intended. Also, not a lot of fighters do transitions on the head like Ronda does, who could have known. But god damn that was something.

Meisha Tate basically perfectly read this match http://www.ufc.com/news/fighter-take-miesha-tate-on-rousey-zingano?id=

She was supposed to be defensive and drain Rousey by stuffing her takedown attempts into later rounds. Oops oh well I'd take $160k to tap in 16 seconds too but begging for a rematch right away could be even more embarrassing if Rousey does the exact same thing like Silva VS that guy he TKO'd twice with body shots.

We need a new sport.
Some kind of Kumite, or UFC.

Something where the only rules are - No biting or eye gouges.

This is what UFC once was - before the pussies and religious people got involved.

No rules, no weight divisions - a real fighting championship.

We need something like this back.
Something like Bloodsport with vandamme - the kumite.
Rules have ruined UFC and all other fighting championships.

Has nothing to do with pussies or religious people and everything to do with insurance and lawsuits. If you permit shit like small joint manipulation, neck punches and head stomps, fishooking, whatever else then you open yourself up to getting fucked by the police and courts.

You can maybe get away with this if you held matches on the Myanmar border but even broadcasting them live will be a challenge as no CDN will accept your bouts, so you'd have to create your own from scratch and good luck with that.

Instead of making MMA/UFC more bloody, they should go back to stuff like Pancrase where it was open hand only strikes to the face. You make more money if your fighters are healthy.

Is the Vale Tudo scene in Brazil completely dead by now or is it still bubbling away under the surface?
I imagine most of the talented fighters are training for unified rules MMA rather than NHB because that's where the money is, but I would've thought the original sport still has it's purists.

The last true bare knuckle, no-holds-barred promotion I can think of is Rio Heroes but they went under a few years back. (Due to their online gambling racket rather than the fact that it was Vale Tudo.)

There would definitely be an online market for it if enough competent fighters could be found.

I think it's pretty much dead at the moment, but I wouldn't doubt a resurgence sometime in the next 5 years seeing as there is demand for it (even if not so strong). I feel like it's in like an extension of the spot Muay Thai is in, it just needs a superstar or some big thing to bring it back into the limelight.

At least with Muay Thai, hopefully CMT picks up because that shit is so awesome, it's like Muay Thai in a cage with MMA gloves and takedowns but no groundwork.

It's a tripfag thread. I apologise for this, I'm very drunk, as I almost always am watching UFC. But I wanted to say goodbye. I really did. And I didn't want this to be a 'ME' thread, cuz honestly, who fucking cares? It's not that, I just wanted to give my appreciation to the board.

I've been here for like... what? 3 years? 4? /mma/ was always dead, probably always will be, and that's fine, but throughout the time we've always had fun. I can count so fucking little drama in the /mma/ streams or chats, there's been a lot of good posts, Smallway always brings it, the trip of Fedor Emilanegro or some shit, FierceBrosnan and his waifu, Maggot, DMTrious Johnson, we've had some fucking killer times.

I just had to make a thread to let you guys know, let this place know that as dead as /mma/ is, there's still a very vocal community. And we've had so much fun on saturday, I just have to fuck off, I'm fighting in July, I'm very excited about it, but I love this board and the people on it, it's a very small and vocal part of 420chan that almost feels nonexistant, but I wish you all well, /mma/ never die.

Cue the 'fuck you attention seeking' bullshit, but this isnt me making a thread about me, I just wanted to make a thread about /mma/. Isn't it fucking great? Don't you love this place? It's so small. I remember trying, I remember people being all "WE NEED TO MAKE /mma/ A THING". It never will be, it's just us, a small community of passionate mma fans, and that's fine too.

We're still going. This board is the fucking rebel child of 420chan, it shouldn't exist, it's worthless. We should be merged into /sport/ anyday now, but we aren't. And I like to think as popular as /wooo/ is, MMA stands because we're all a community and that means a lot.

I appreciate this board, I really do. And I just wanted to make a thread where we all came together, shared our experiences and give back to /mma/. Cuz it's given me a fucking lot, and I appreciate that.

Kind of curious as to what people think of the chat/channel in general.

Also, looking to see if there are specific macros people would like to see there. Posting sources/pics will greatly enhance our ability to include them.

I'm thinking getting people involved with how the chat is run using the boards might help get a little more action here.

She gets paid for this level of competition? I can just run at someone with my arm out and instantly tap too, could I please be paid thousands and thousands? Fucking disgrace, she didn't even try. Was reckless and stupid. So disappointing.

She'd also have to give up the roids, bullshark semen and that ancillary testicle she had implanted in her armpit.

Yeah, until CM Punk has his fight. Then again, at least Punk isn't calling out Christopher Weidman or GSP or Anderson "PEDs" Silva and getting the fight.

This is all kinds of stupid. First of all Neer is a total pussy for getting in a soccer kick to the head when they were pulled a part. People with no self control should not be professional fighters period because they will end up easily baited and fuck up their careers.

Second, this is all done for marketing. The unknown fighter wants to be known so spreads a bunch of bullshit, threats and heelish nonsense everywhere he can. It doesn't matter if he gets his ass handed to him either because now he's created a rivalry which will be picked up by promotions and he will get paid.

>a soccer kick to the head
Supposedly he lost his balance and didn't actually kick him. Smells of bullshit to me, but you can't really tell in the video so who knows.
>People with no self control should not be professional fighters period because they will end up easily baited and fuck up their careers.
Neer isn't exactly a shining example of a role model to begin with.
>he's created a rivalry which will be picked up by promotions
How exactly is that supposed to work since they are three weight classes apart?

They will find him matches, just wait. 177 major media articles on 'MMA Patrick Martin' right now on google news. MMA is business first, skill and everything else a distant second.

Well of course they will, he was already scheduled to make his debut when this went down. That's not the same thing as "creating a rivalry which will be picked up by promotions".

Sup Guise

I decided to start working on a homework assignment for mma.

I just joined an mma gym a month ago. Going in I thought that I was a decent fighter; I had studied tae kwon do, self taught some boxing, and learned a krav maga spin off from a higher end retired body guard.

I went in the gym and realized I know virtually nothing.

I've got ok foot work, and ok counter kicks. But I can't box for shit, I can barely grapple, and my jujitsu is beginner at best. I learn so much new shit every time I go into the gym it's ridiculous. But after a month of getting my ass kicked, I'm starting to realize that I don't actually have style of fighting.

So I want to start building my idealized style now. I figure the best way to go about it is to study the champs.

I want to know who has the most connecting combos, and learn it. I want to know who has the most connecting jabs and make it mine. I want to know who has the most connecting take downs and make it mine.

Basically I want to learn a mutant hybrid of the best offense/defense methods from the champs out there, but I've never been a real watcher, more of a doer. You guys will know way more about the best fighters out there and I want your help finding out what they are.
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

By not getting hit in the face. If you're on the ground, you should get better position so you don't get hit cleanly, or such that you can hit him or her better. If you're standing up, then footwork is king, head movement is queen.

If you're asking how to inure yourself to punches, don't. You get used to being punched at, not necessarily being punched. You keep a cool head by working on your defense via foot and body positioning, then keeping your hands up.

Pretty smart guy here, we're shelling out some top-notch advice in this thread, seems to be a better community than 90% of Sherdog's forums.

Big lesson:
>footwork is king, head movement is queen

Absolutely. Watch when fighters get blasted against the cage (unfortunately the fight that comes to mind is legend BJ Penn getting demolished by Nick Diaz), what are they lacking? Lateral movement to circle away from strikes, and the head movement to avoid (by just centimeters at times) full connecting power shots. So the opposite of that? Keep your feet moving in short steps, and move your upper body with your head to avoid shots.

Not much advice to give in terms of grappling, much harder to give advice because your ability to 'win' is based much more off of mat-time and solid technique. Basic philosophy though; the wrestling aspect is based on aggressive, non-stop, tenacious take-downs and scrambling. Never give up a takedown, pop right back up, and if you are stuffed going for the takedown, back out and re-enter or just switch up the shot and keep driving and cutting the corner. Jiu-jitsu is pretty different, you gotta flow, capitalize on mistakes and use technique to avoid submissions.

Fighters to watch for grappling; Carlos Condit & Donald Cerrone for activity off of their back in an MMA setting, guys with sick overall BJJ: Joe Lauzon, Demetrious Johnson, Jacare Souza just to name a few.

You learn to punch by going to a boxing coach. Go to one. Silva did, Jones did, most of the top MMA trainers are all ex pro boxing coaches or boxers themselves.

Then they hire pro grappling guys as assistant coaches. The secret to MMA, is you bring your mastery of something nobody expects, like a TKD kick nobody has seen before in the ring. So like Silva, has typical mastery of standard boxing/counters, and JJ, but he has surprise Muay Thai moves he pulls out of nowhere in the middle of fights.

tl;dr
Go to a boxing gym.
Bring that experience to MMA class.
Fight like every other MMA fighter.
Surprise them with a personal arsenal of Krav Maga/TKD moves they won't expect, and more importantly know when to throw them so you don't get countered.

Yeah, "i cant box fer shit" is a problem.

Go to a boxing gym, not a boxfit one but one where you can spar.

Boxing is pretty fundamental in mma, it doesn't mean fight like a boxer, but know how to throw a punch.
