Oscar de la Hoya vs Julio Cesar Chavez
THIS is a boxing match. THIS is the sort of fight people were expecting.
All that happened in Mayweather v. Pacquiao was Manny looking like he was too scared of taking a punch from Floyd to really come at him as hard as he needed to, and Floyd being Floyd. Dancing around doing fuck all, getting JUST enough punches in at JUST the right time to get points without having to risk anything. Two guys pussyfooting around, playing it safe.

Or maybe it's all rigged and Manny threw the fight.
But that night, Manny looked like a huge pussy and Floyd looked like he didnt even care about the match. Probably because he knew the judges would vote in favor of him in the end.
I always said this fight would only go two ways. Manny knocking out Floyd or Floyd winning via a decision.

Don't think Manny threw the fight, but he knew he was cooked and took the fight for the money considering he had a torn rotator cuff either before the fight or during it. Supposedly he's getting surgery on his shoulder this week and will be out for 9-12 months. Guess that puts the kibosh on any chances of MayPac II in September.

Seriously though. Don't watch Mayweather ever again (and lucky for you, he's probably retiring after his next fight). All his fights go down the same way. He's too good.

If people were expecting De La Hoya vs Chavez, they were either delusional or know nothing about Mayweather.

Manny won two, maybe three of the rounds, at least one of them with a fucked up shoulder. Fact is, many boxers wouldn't win a single round against Mayweather. If we could have a rematch with Pacman in full health, I would watch it (though not for $100 again unless the undercard was fucking stacked, as a group of us ended up chipping in to buy the PPV).

>Wal-Mart apparently draws a line in the sand when it comes to books penned by undefeated women's bantamweight champions. According to Richard Johnson of the New York Post's Page Six, the popular retailer is reportedly refusing to sell Ronda Rousey's memoir, "My Fight/Your Fight."

Like, her job is, or they think she goes around beating the shit out of people on the street? Like, some random person comes up to Rousey and asks for an autograph, she cackles wildly and puts them in the hospital for four months. Is this the Rousey that Wal-Mart believes in? Or do they just mean that MMA is too violent?

Because I'm pretty sure if Muhammad Ali wrote a memoir, Wal-Mart would be willing to sell it, so even that seems like a stretch.

Maybe it's because she's a woman with a violent profession? Hmm...

Now I want Kankaanpaa to write an autobiography. Or even just a blog with an English translation.

I hope it's okay to have the thread here. Seems more appropriate than anywhere else on 420chan, anyway.

Predictions for this? I know Pac-Man has become more strategic later in his career and less prone to going full-tilt, but I really would love to see Mayweather get knocked out cold. If nothing else, because Pacquiao is a southpaw, just like my sister and me.

Mayweather never gets hit so he will spend 3 rounds blocking maniac Manny flurry of punches then it will be a drawn out fight of points to a split decision because boxing always disappoints now. Personally I'd like to see Mayweather uppercutted straight out of the ring and land on the commentators table KOd to deflate his ego a little to human sized ego but that won't happen.

There's going to be a card early June on pay-per-view for a Back-Yard-Brawling organization called BYB. If you're familiar with Kimbo Slice or DADA 5000 then I think you'd be happy to know this will be put together by the same peoples. There's going to be MMA involved but I believe it'll feature mostly 8-limbs striking.

I would agree, except that I feel having a real fighter as a third wheel infringes too much on Joe Rogan's territory. That said, they REALLY need someone to do B-D shows, that nigga that sounds vaguely like Joey Styles doesn't cut it (though I seem to recall them having Brian Stann working those shows too a little while back, I don't watch many of the not A-shows).

Well Rener Gracie did shill him as a good potential fighter, and Dana will want to milk this guy's PPV popularity and feed him some fall down goofs to eat for a few fights. Chuck Liddell used to fight entirely by telegraphing wild right hooks and he still won fights.

>Chuck Liddell used to fight entirely by telegraphing wild right hooks and he still won fights.
Roy Nelson does that now. Hell, Chris Weidman was telegraphing ALL his punches when he beat Silva the first time, but once Silva failed to dodge one, it was over. It doesn't matter if you telegraph the punch when you have OHKO power, all it has to do is land once. That said, you do have to be a little more technical in your striking in weight classes below LHW to get KOs, for the most part. Honestly, though, I don't think this argument applies. Punk is a BJJ guy. The one thing that's been surprising me here lately is every fighter's submission defense. There have been several occasions in the past year or so where I've seen what would be considered a fully locked choke or armbar get broken handily and the fight taken back up. Even within the last five years, I feel submission defense has come a VERY long way and now more than ever you're better off prioritizing amateur wrestling and boxing/muay thai over submission grappling (in particular since submission wrestling will get you no points from the judges, no matter how technically you outperform on the ground). Just my opinion, doesn't apply to WMMA, of course.

Roy Nelson is only in UFC because he has inhuman ability to take brutal punishment that would kill any normal man. His fighting skills are awful, but he cannot be KO'd easily, fuck Overeem and JDS spent 3 rounds beating the living shit out of him and it did nothing he was still dangerous until the 3rd round bell rang even after taking multiple kicks to the jaw and ribs over and over. Dude is invicible.

Nobody knows what kind of jaw CM Punk has but he seems pretty tough enough to fight considering Tyron Woodley has been shilling him as a good fighter and that guy won his last fight with a broken foot so if he says your'e good you're prob good.

Mark Hunt managed to put Nelson down, and I think Nelson's weight cut wasn't even as bad as Hunt's (someone said Hunt ate 23 cheeseburgers or something immediately after weigh-ins). Then again, Hunt nearly managed to finish Werdum on three weeks notice.

So it appears that everyone and their mother is putting money on Conor McGregor to win this Saturday, and 95% of any media on this match is focused on the Irishman to the point that they're already prepping for the Aldo Title fight.

So what happens if hell freezes over and Siver pulls off a Buster Douglas moment? Could McGregor's momentum make an immediate recovery? Who would be the next contender for Aldo if not Conor?

I'm 99% sure him taking the belt is a work. I don't think Dana would stand for it, and Jose and his family were sitting with McGregor's girlfriend for his fight against Siver. I'm not so sure McGregor WILL take the belt, but he definitely CAN. Shit, I was convinced there was no way TJ Dillashaw could ever beat Renan Barao, but here we are. All it takes is one bad weight cut to cut a guy's legs off, never mind the possibility of going into the fight with an injury. But Conor's a damn good fighter. From what I've seen, he NEVER tires himself out, and that's what a fighter needs to go five rounds. He doesn't waste a single movement and his striking is very technical for being a knockout artist. He's a rough diamond, but he's still a goddamn diamond, just needs to refine himself outside of the boxing a bit. His takedown defense could be a lot better, but it's not like Jose is a wrestler. I'd love to see him fight Faber if he wins the belt, since Faber is my favorite submission style guy (and maybe Faber will even avoid poking out his eye to get a choke if they do it).
Ben Rothwell - Mon, 06 Apr 2015 22:21:19 EST ID:FDucgZ7P No.55631 Ignore Report Quick Reply

MacGregor is a good fighter. People are selling him a little short because of the nuclear power hype train behind him but on pure skill set he's probably the worst match up for Aldo among featherweight contenders. Hes going to the best offensive striker that Aldo has ever fought and the first guy who will be able to, with his footwork and size, negotiate the range of Aldo. Guys like Edgar, Faber, and Mendes are all fine fighters but they're all shorter guys who have to commit a lot to closing the distance, giving a fast precise guy like Aldo everything he needs to work with as a counter striker. We'll see what happens when Aldo is the one having the close distance.

Yeah he fought taller guys in Hominick and Florian, but Florian was a slow old man who came forward the whole fight and Hominick is fucking Mark Hominick. Note in the Hominick fight Aldo shot a LOT of takedowns (as he did against the lanky Chan Sung Jung). He didn't shoot any against Florian only because Florian spent the whole fight trying to take Aldo down.

MacGregor hasn't been tested on the ground but he's a big strong guy and if he can make Aldo come forward and can defend the TD he's gonna win the attrition battle and, if he's ready for 25 minutes, come on really strong late.

Macgregor is going to hit Aldo, he's going to hurt him, and he's going to take rounds. You have to fave the champion in a 25 minute fight (and thats a long time for MacGregor's lax defense to hold up) but I think people are going to be very surprised how close this fight is.

Steroids are not bad in the least.
Use once a year - work out 3x harder than anyone else to maintain size.
You die at 50 because of all the speed and coke u took before the age of 50 - not the steroids themself.

Every single person to have died from 'steroids' has also been a known drug user and have abused themselves in other ways.
You can not pin point roids.
Anthony Pettis - Mon, 23 Feb 2015 17:37:35 EST ID:tB4g9DZ/ No.55273 Ignore Report Quick Reply

The issue with 'roids has always been people abusing them, meaning they aren't taking them for medical reasons and instead are shooting up for purely cosmetic reasons. It gets a bit iffy in a combat sport where 'rids can be used to goose strength and proper diet/weight-cutting techniques, which again all goes back to not using steroids in medically-approved way.

Hello /mma/,

I come from another Chan, (not the future), but I have always dreamed of a board specifically dedicated to MMA on an imageboard website. So I come to you as somewhat of a novice; all that I knew about 420chan was, as I was told, "as the name suggests the website focuses on marijuana discussion, as the name does not suggest there is a lot of discussion of professional wrestling." Or something along those lines.

Anyways, any excitement for this coming weekends UFC Fight Night 63 card? I think the main event is a bit of a mismatch. For me, Mendes would beat anyone at 145, except Aldo. (If anyone in the current division is going to beat Aldo, I'd say it's Mendes. Sorry McGregor.) A couple of other points of interest for me are that I'm one of the few Michael Chiesa fans, also I think Ron Stallings has potential.

So what say you /mma/? What are your predictions for the main event, or anything else related to the card?

Yeah I really like Iaquinta. But I do agree that Masvidal will be too much for him. Iaquinta has shown flashes of brilliance, but has been inconsistent. He's on a three fight win streak, but I can't shake off the feeling that it'll come to an end.

It sucks that the fights are on noonish this weekend. For me watching the fights hungover in my room alone won't be as fun, but oh well. I also hope that a Jackson-less Clay Guida won't be the boring fighter he's been for a while now.

He's only 33, and he's already had as many injuries as he's had. You don't get better from recovering from injuries, in fact, you get worse. He's already made enough money to retire on, that's why he quit in the first place (aside from the moral high ground of "we should be drug testing people" after being accused of being a PED user himself). The only thing that would really bring him back is if it's what he really wants out of life. Only GSP can answer that, I just happen to think his answer is to be able to train without risking injury as much and without his family bitching about how they don't want to see him get hurt in fights. I do hope I'm wrong, though.

I dont think GSP is coming back. All the recent ped problems have proven him right. He doesnt seem desperate for money. He took a lot of punishment in his last few fights and had a ton of injuries so I doubt he will want to return to that condition and his last fight showed that he no longer had much of an advantage over the current generation of welterweights.

I've always seen Dana as the Galactic President from Hitchhiker's Guide. His one and only job is to make noise and get noticed, it's a sweet fucking gig.

Buffoon. It's like he's gotten even more immature as he's aged. If you haven't seen a younger, humble, haired, and somewhat awkward Dana see below:
