What do you think is the greatest martial art for self defense other than BJJ/Muay Thai/Krav Maga?

Are there any gems that I'm missing?

INB4 a complete war breaks out. This isn't a "whose martial art is better" thread. I'm just asking for people to rattle off great self-defense martial arts in their opinion without debate.

I should also add I live above a rowdy jabroni filled sports bar and witness fights all the time. Here's what always happens

  • Double leg takedown followed by sitting on dudes chest and punching his face in until some backup guy kicks the guy in mount in the face, pepper sprays him or the bouncers pull him off.

  • Wild drunken right hand hooks that only land if the other guy is just as drunk.

  • Pepper spraying followed by 5-6 guys beating you within an inch of your life

Never seen any other kind of fight, ever. If you fall down buddy will always kick you in the face guaranteed. If you are unconscious he will do it anyway until some girl screams for him to stop or cops arrest him. Don't get in street fights

>KICK TO DA BALLS, THAT'S THE FIRST THING TO DO

This too, a combo I usually use is like an eyepoke or just try and gouge, followed by groin kick and then a chop to the throat as they drop their hands down to grab their nuts. Works every time.

Stabbings were the most common until cops started charging people for carrying knives so they changed to pepper spray. Nobody fights "fair" on the street, there's no Marcus of Queensbury gentlemen's rules and everybody fighting usually has some kind of weapon because the kinds of goofs who get into street fights usually carry them at all times.

Does the drug test and the cocaine story for Jones change anyone's opinion of him as an elite fighter? If he snorts coke, what else does he put in his body.

I kind of thought of him as the best fighter in the world, but now he's just kind of a selfish, arrogant out of control maniac.

He's got good reach and striking creativity. Is his legacy tarnished? What will happen to the title?

You should read your own link, they denied he used blow and instead "In the documentary, Assault in the Ring, Resto asserted that Lewis used to crush antihistamine pills and dissolve them in his water to expand his lung capacity in later rounds. "

Also he's out of competition during the blow test.
Also nobody gains any advantage to being on blow, more like they will tire out and crash after 10 minutes.

I'm convinced Jones is a cokehead, so his drug abuse isn't a publicity stunt. I wouldn't put it past Dana and the Fertittas to convince Jones to do his whole announcement and check-into rehab as a PR move to help his and the UFC's brand with the intention to use it as a storyline to promote his next fight, though.

Herrig sucks but she has a massive experience advantage, and other than being tenacious as fuck, Paige didn't show the kind of ability in her last fight that would give me a lot of confidence in this fight. Stylistically this is a decent fight for Paige as a top grappler would dominate her right now but experience is huge.

Rooting for The Hotgun. but I'd favor Herrig.

Hahaha from an interview with VanZant

>“I always had on the back of my mind that me and Felice would fight, because we’re the hot girls in the sport. So I kind of got myself ready for that.”

>“She’s been around for a long time, and she’s been somewhat of a veteran in the sport. Just to be fighting her, and to be at her level in as honor. I looked up to her when I first started the sport. She was someone who I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Now to be on the same playing field and the same level as her, it’s exciting. I’m really excited about this fight.”

>“I am very comfortable with that. A lot of people say I’m very young for all of this to be happening, but I’ve kind of always been ahead of my age. This is everything I knew I would be doing eventually in my life. I’m happy that it’s happening now.”

Right i have a few questions i'll keep them fairly simple.

Right i've been up all night on stims, nothing major just a light stimulant and some /opi/s and /benz/ but they will be out of my system well before the session.

I'm going to a Tai Kick boxing session tomorrow, so i will be sleep deprived by the time i get there and been up for quite some time. Would it be OK for me to be on a light stimulant, such as 3FPM / EHP / MPA when i get to the gym this evening to keep me more focused. I wouldn't be trying to buzz just light stimulation. Would you suggest against a euphoric stimulant such as an RC (not sure how clued up /mma/ are on drugs) stimulant similar but not as strong as MDMA its Ethylone.

Also anyone got any tips, i know i will learn these, and im not sparing until i lose some weight and gain technique fitness. Maybe in the form of a youtube video, i'm just thinking basic stuff like; how to hold my hands (not just keep them up) when im blocking, standing, about to kick and going to punch. Same goes for kicking how should i distribute my weight (i'll keep it simple because im a complete novice first session) when going to a forward facing round house kick or front kick. Basically any tips you think you could give me as someone who has never done boxing or thai style kicks, i done taekwondo for a year when i was 13-14 but since then i've become quite unfit and don't have that flexibility, fuck i can hardly do push ups and sit ups. FYI im 6'3 and 20stone, as the reason im starting tai kick boxing, also i love martial arts and will keep at this or more onto something else in the future.

Most related pic i have lol.

Good on you for starting up, I hope it goes well for you.

I'm more into the MMA side of things, but if you're right-handed and going against a right-hander, generally keep your right hand next to your chin and your left hand slightly outstretched so you can tap down jabs or straights or anything, but that's MMA so I'm not sure if you'd do that in thai, especially since you have the big gloves.

Another thing I see beginners have trouble with is turning on your feet when you kick as well so try to make that a bit early. So if you kick with your right leg, turn on the ball of your left foot so it's facing left and not only will it increase the power since it will use the strength from the ground, but it will also help you roll over your shin so that you connect with the front of the shin rather than the side.

Another thing with kicking as well is if you find yourself coming off balance and falling after the kick, then snap your leg back and the momentum should plant it straight onto the ground and you should be fine. To sort of explain it more is like say throw a body kick, your leg is outstretched, then after the kick, bring your heel to your bum really quick by snapping your leg closed and plant it straight back behind you as fast as you can. By doing this after the kick and pulling your leg back then you will throw all your weight behind you, which won't be a bad thing since you'll have your foot already back there before you fall and it gets out of your opponent's range (hopefully). Just make sure not to pull your kicks though, you might as well be doing TKD or JKA if you're training yourself to be landing light kicks with no power in them.

Your footwork is something to try and correct early as well, so like practice moving around in your fighting stance when walking around the house by reaching with your front foot and dragging with your left foot, because if you bring your feet together or cross them over then you'll be unbalanced and one good leg kick while you're unbalanced and you're on your ass. So try to keep your front foot always forwards and never cross your feet, especially as a beginner until you know what you are doing.

Also if you're fighting someone of the opposite stance as you, whoever has the outside front foot has a shorter distance from their power hand to the opponent's head. So if your front left foot is outside the opponent's front right foot, then your right hand (power hand) only has to travel straight to punch him, since your shoulder is right in front of your face, whereas his left hand (power) will have to travel past the centre of his body (as well as your right hand/shoulder) diagonally to hit you in the head. This is why against southpaws I usually keep that right hand glued to my face as well.

Final one is a little trick of remembering how to kick that a kyokushin guy taught me that's really good for beginners, but it will translate over to thai as well.

Think of your kicks as the shape of a triangle, circle or square. So a leg kick, you want to come over the top of their thigh and slam down onto it, so you would kick like a circle, because your leg comes up and rounds over the top before coming down on top of the thigh with the front of your shin.

Ugh, I had a dojo mate who tried training on amphetamines, and he just kept freaking out and ran away.
I'd say don't use the drugs as a crutch, learn how to fight through the fatigue, if you ever turn pro you'll have to deal with jetlag, and if you train for self defense, you'll usually get picked by cunts when you're sick of injured anyway.
Just have some fucking coffee and a cold shower when you get there, if not for yourself, then out of consideration for your classmates, it's unpleasant working with a jacked up tweaker.
And that shit still does nothing for your stamina, cardio is cardio, and you'll tank when you tank.

As for training videos, Bas Rutten teaches basic movement as well as anyone.

I couldn't imagine there would be much of a problem unless the place you're training at is some kind of complete world-class level gym, and even in the case that they are that big then they should have some kind of beginner's class as well. Also see if they have some kind of trial class thing going on, all the places I've been to in Australia have had them and it would be a good way to tell if it's what you want to do or not. Forgot to mention that a friend I used to train with as well who's 6'2 and weight 145kg (22.8stone) around the end of 2013 and dominated his first MMA fight at 96kg back in November.

Back in my old gym, I used to be the one where I would basically take and teach everyone who was around their first month through the basics. Speaking from experience, the coach who you'll have should be able to tell that you're unfit, and they shouldn't expect the world of you. When I first began training, it took me about 2 months to be able to do 5 pushups in a row, mostly because I was weak as hell and not so much because of my size though, the instructor shouldn't expect you to be some kind of elite athlete. Also because you'd be new, the stuff they'd be going through with you wouldn't be too physically taxing I'd imagine, like it would just be basic footwork, combinations, kicks, that type of thing. I doubt they'd expect you to be sparring in the first couple of classes, and even if they did, the people you spar with be able to tell you're new and I doubt they'd try to shred you apart.

Also there's probably not much point in going somewhere else to get fit beforehand, since you're going to get fit anyway doing it. Also the fitness is like a different kind that's sort of hard to train for. I can't even count how many footballers came into the dojo and are blown up within 15 minutes, despite being able to run around and kick the ball for a full game. I myself couldn't even get close to doing a 3 minute plank, 2 minutes would be pushing it, but I can go to a class and spar for the whole night easily. You're going to naturally gain flexibility and strength, as well as losing weight just by tra…

I'm looking for users to sign up to my fantasy MMA fed, I want to use a bunch of users from different boards for this project, I'm thinking around 20 message boards. I'll post every show, interview and build up on every single board that's interested in this project. Everything will be simulated with World Of Mixed Martial Arts 4

So far, I've got around 30 fighters from my home board and I'm always looking for more. It's nothing serious and just something fun to pass the time. This fed is basically the most insane thing possible, there's no weight classes, we have virtually no rules, men fight women, we're in Africa (with shows occasionally in Jerusalem and Rio De Janiro) and we have fighting animals and objects. You can also make your fighter extremely powerful and overpowered, I really don't care, just make him creative so don't sign up with 'LOL 100 IN EVERYTHING', that's not funny and I'll just no sell you. But if you wanna sign up as a giant red Dildo with a black belt in BJJ and world class Sambo, then your wish can come true and your giant red Dildo can now become a master! Remember: It's not anything serious and it's mainly for fun, but if there's enough interest, I'll completely eliminate the comedic aspects of the fed. Just post in this topic if you wanna sign up, here's the advanced template. (There's a quick template if you don't feel like filling everything, it's on the bottom of the page, just give me your name, height, weight and nationality and your fighting style)

>Is she always like this?
Yes. She's like a white trash trailer park bitch. Her striking trainer is just as bad too. When he tried starting shit with Dennis Hallman because he was supposedly looking at him wrong or some shit, I really wanted that to actually go to a fight. Hallman would have wrecked that piece of shit real bad.

Thanks, though I've been guilty of messy coding in the past, and had to cry to Kirtaner to clean up my spills.
