This is all kinds of stupid. First of all Neer is a total pussy for getting in a soccer kick to the head when they were pulled a part. People with no self control should not be professional fighters period because they will end up easily baited and fuck up their careers.

Second, this is all done for marketing. The unknown fighter wants to be known so spreads a bunch of bullshit, threats and heelish nonsense everywhere he can. It doesn't matter if he gets his ass handed to him either because now he's created a rivalry which will be picked up by promotions and he will get paid.

Supposedly he lost his balance and didn't actually kick him. Smells of bullshit to me, but you can't really tell in the video so who knows.

Sup Guise

I decided to start working on a homework assignment for mma.

I just joined an mma gym a month ago. Going in I thought that I was a decent fighter; I had studied tae kwon do, self taught some boxing, and learned a krav maga spin off from a higher end retired body guard.

I went in the gym and realized I know virtually nothing.

I've got ok foot work, and ok counter kicks. But I can't box for shit, I can barely grapple, and my jujitsu is beginner at best. I learn so much new shit every time I go into the gym it's ridiculous. But after a month of getting my ass kicked, I'm starting to realize that I don't actually have style of fighting.

So I want to start building my idealized style now. I figure the best way to go about it is to study the champs.

I want to know who has the most connecting combos, and learn it. I want to know who has the most connecting jabs and make it mine. I want to know who has the most connecting take downs and make it mine.

Basically I want to learn a mutant hybrid of the best offense/defense methods from the champs out there, but I've never been a real watcher, more of a doer. You guys will know way more about the best fighters out there and I want your help finding out what they are.
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

By not getting hit in the face. If you're on the ground, you should get better position so you don't get hit cleanly, or such that you can hit him or her better. If you're standing up, then footwork is king, head movement is queen.

If you're asking how to inure yourself to punches, don't. You get used to being punched at, not necessarily being punched. You keep a cool head by working on your defense via foot and body positioning, then keeping your hands up.

Pretty smart guy here, we're shelling out some top-notch advice in this thread, seems to be a better community than 90% of Sherdog's forums.

Big lesson:
>footwork is king, head movement is queen

Absolutely. Watch when fighters get blasted against the cage (unfortunately the fight that comes to mind is legend BJ Penn getting demolished by Nick Diaz), what are they lacking? Lateral movement to circle away from strikes, and the head movement to avoid (by just centimeters at times) full connecting power shots. So the opposite of that? Keep your feet moving in short steps, and move your upper body with your head to avoid shots.

Not much advice to give in terms of grappling, much harder to give advice because your ability to 'win' is based much more off of mat-time and solid technique. Basic philosophy though; the wrestling aspect is based on aggressive, non-stop, tenacious take-downs and scrambling. Never give up a takedown, pop right back up, and if you are stuffed going for the takedown, back out and re-enter or just switch up the shot and keep driving and cutting the corner. Jiu-jitsu is pretty different, you gotta flow, capitalize on mistakes and use technique to avoid submissions.

Fighters to watch for grappling; Carlos Condit & Donald Cerrone for activity off of their back in an MMA setting, guys with sick overall BJJ: Joe Lauzon, Demetrious Johnson, Jacare Souza just to name a few.

You learn to punch by going to a boxing coach. Go to one. Silva did, Jones did, most of the top MMA trainers are all ex pro boxing coaches or boxers themselves.

Then they hire pro grappling guys as assistant coaches. The secret to MMA, is you bring your mastery of something nobody expects, like a TKD kick nobody has seen before in the ring. So like Silva, has typical mastery of standard boxing/counters, and JJ, but he has surprise Muay Thai moves he pulls out of nowhere in the middle of fights.

Go to a boxing gym.
Bring that experience to MMA class.
Fight like every other MMA fighter.
Surprise them with a personal arsenal of Krav Maga/TKD moves they won't expect, and more importantly know when to throw them so you don't get countered.

Yeah, "i cant box fer shit" is a problem.

Go to a boxing gym, not a boxfit one but one where you can spar.

Boxing is pretty fundamental in mma, it doesn't mean fight like a boxer, but know how to throw a punch.

All of the dubious admonitions against leg extensions point to sheering forces in the patella completely unrelated to an MCL tear.

It's a conditioning thing that's why he's doing it for high reps. You do the leg extensions to focus on the endurance of that muscle more exactly without draining your overall stamina like a squat would.

Not MMA, but in BJJ when one of my friends is competing and a guy locks on a choke, but has it on his jaw instead of his neck, he makes fake choking and gagging sounds so the guy thinks he has it on and squeezes really hard. Then after he's used all his energy and tired his arms out trying to slap on a useless choke, he just breaks it and keeps grappling.

Hey guys, what are your opinions on how whether to kick with the shin or with the ball of your foot with roundhouse kicks? I've generally always been the shin kind of guy but I spent a lot of December training with my friend who trains Shotokan and was telling me to land with the ball of my foot when throwing body kicks. I sort of dismissed him because lolshotokan but when I thought I might as well give it a shot during training last week during competition sparring (basically we go hard). I really liked the extra range it was giving me, and it seemed to have more of an oomph in it, I even managed to stop one of the guys after I landed about 4. It also seemed to be harder to grab, which was one of my big weaknesses with body kicks.

The only real thing I'm worried about though is that if catch an elbow or something it will probably break my foot right? It just seems a bit fragile unless I land on the soft parts of the body, although I did catch the forearm a couple of times and didn't really feel much, and it might've affected them.

I'll probably keep going with shin kicks on the thigh because I think the risk of catching a knee or a shin off a check is too great, and it'll hurt me more if I land them, but keep going shin kicks to the body until I feel comfortable in being able to land with the ball of the foot or if I can make openings. Still probably keep going with shin (or instep if I can't reach) for head kicks though.

What do you guys think of the different techniques?
Sergei Kharitonov - Tue, 20 Jan 2015 09:03:10 EST ID:Zi+KQnFz No.55082 Ignore Report Quick Reply
I'm like Bill Wallace, I use the instep because I can't bend my toes back far enough to use the ball. I only had a problem once when I landed with the very end of my foot and hyperextended my ankle.
The only guy I've seen kick with the toes is James Ryan, but I've heard that's a thing in Okinawa-Te.
Maurice Smith has that crazy crocodile kick that drops down on your thigh or neck. Bas Rutten says to kick in straight across the thigh muscle, though, like cutting meat across the muscle fibres.
There's also the switch kick to the inside thigh, and the inverted roundhouse if you're in opposite stances.
One of the best leg kicks I've seen was Stan Longinidis, he broke Dennis Alexio's leg within a few seconds of their fight starting.
