What do you guys think about this? Somehow I just ran across this and it looks awesome, if not a bit cumbersome. I'm sure that a few of you have looked into this way more than I have and I'm wondering, will it kick off? It seems like a cool idea at first, but the suits look cumbersome and bloodsport without the blood might be boring.

Anyways, here's a link with more info! http://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/unified-weapons-master-future-fighting/

I'm intrigued, but I feel like it all really depends on how well they can fairly implement their scoring system. I would imagine seeing a lot of dudes just using polearms/bo staffs to outrange and out point opponents

They should collaborate with the bear attack survival suit guy. Also, they will never have armor strong enough unless they blunt the edges and tips of their weapons. At that point, fight with nerf swords.

I'd like to see custom-recalibrated guns and lo-explosives included in their gladiator arena, they're doing this for entertainment anyways. Why not give it some razzle-dazzle?

I simply can't make any choice that pretends to be informed.
A guy may look pudgy but he may also be a redneck motherfucker who can take 40 punches to the face and kicks like a mule.
A guy may look cut but it turns out he does Muay Thai and he runs 2 miles every day before doing a thousand burpees and kicking trees down.
Fighting is a skill. Looking good or big rarely lets you guess who can fight the better.

Focus on kicking speed/strength maybe? But since he rarely uses kicks, kinda seems like that would be a waste anyway.

Speaking of ridiculous training, I saw this segment where Sean Sherk was preparing for a match by endlessly running up hills with a snorkel taped to his face in order to "restrict his oxygen".

Then he takes a flying knee to the face in the fight and is out. Dude, should have maybe worked on fighting skills a little and not this silly running wearing a snorkel shit.

Training with a mask on is fairly common. Apparently if you restrict the amount of air you can take in at a time your lungs will get stronger trying to force more air in.

>all these elite fitness trainers on the internet

All of the dubious admonitions against leg extensions point to sheering forces in the patella completely unrelated to an MCL tear.

>>55224

It's a conditioning thing that's why he's doing it for high reps. You do the leg extensions to focus on the endurance of that muscle more exactly without draining your overall stamina like a squat would.

Is it okay for a cage fighter to play possum as a way to win a fight? Is it against the rules? Will he lose points of proven so? Will he be disqualified? Will it make him look unsportsmanlike?

Not MMA, but in BJJ when one of my friends is competing and a guy locks on a choke, but has it on his jaw instead of his neck, he makes fake choking and gagging sounds so the guy thinks he has it on and squeezes really hard. Then after he's used all his energy and tired his arms out trying to slap on a useless choke, he just breaks it and keeps grappling.

Playing possum is pretty lame in my opinion but it's always up to the fighters to make sure they aren't getting suckered into doing something dumb. That Pete Sell/Scott Smith vid should be a reminder that even if a guy is hurt they might still have the power and wherewith-all to turn the tables.

It also doesn't always work out. Just ask Anderson Silva.

Does that mean The Mountain was possuming to defeat the Red Viper in Game of Thrones? Would he be disqualified in the eyes of the old gods and the new?

Hey guys, what are your opinions on how whether to kick with the shin or with the ball of your foot with roundhouse kicks? I've generally always been the shin kind of guy but I spent a lot of December training with my friend who trains Shotokan and was telling me to land with the ball of my foot when throwing body kicks. I sort of dismissed him because lolshotokan but when I thought I might as well give it a shot during training last week during competition sparring (basically we go hard). I really liked the extra range it was giving me, and it seemed to have more of an oomph in it, I even managed to stop one of the guys after I landed about 4. It also seemed to be harder to grab, which was one of my big weaknesses with body kicks.

The only real thing I'm worried about though is that if catch an elbow or something it will probably break my foot right? It just seems a bit fragile unless I land on the soft parts of the body, although I did catch the forearm a couple of times and didn't really feel much, and it might've affected them.

I'll probably keep going with shin kicks on the thigh because I think the risk of catching a knee or a shin off a check is too great, and it'll hurt me more if I land them, but keep going shin kicks to the body until I feel comfortable in being able to land with the ball of the foot or if I can make openings. Still probably keep going with shin (or instep if I can't reach) for head kicks though.

What do you guys think of the different techniques?

Sergei Kharitonov - Tue, 20 Jan 2015 09:03:10 EST ID:Zi+KQnFz No.55082 Ignore Report Quick Reply
I'm like Bill Wallace, I use the instep because I can't bend my toes back far enough to use the ball. I only had a problem once when I landed with the very end of my foot and hyperextended my ankle.
The only guy I've seen kick with the toes is James Ryan, but I've heard that's a thing in Okinawa-Te.
Maurice Smith has that crazy crocodile kick that drops down on your thigh or neck. Bas Rutten says to kick in straight across the thigh muscle, though, like cutting meat across the muscle fibres.
There's also the switch kick to the inside thigh, and the inverted roundhouse if you're in opposite stances.
One of the best leg kicks I've seen was Stan Longinidis, he broke Dennis Alexio's leg within a few seconds of their fight starting.

You can torrent that whole combat vid somewhere, he talks exactly how shit can go wrong if certain kicks are checked with a knee and you end up Anderson Silva well-cooked-piece-of-asparagus-limp leg.

But yeah, low power kicks off the rear leg like that are precipitous. Possibly even cavalier. And they smack of insouciance!
