Turns out the substance "Jones couldn't even pronounce" and "never heard of" was well known Estrogen blockers.

These are used to help kickstart testosterone production after coming off a cycle of juice. Now you know why he didn't want to tell anybody what it was at the press conference because immediately they would call him out as everybody knows that's juice cycle recovery shit.

I don't think there will ever be a post juice Jones he'll cheat again.

er, they're also used to prevent growing tits while juicing as your body also converts a portion of T into estriadol, and since you're heavily juicing with so much T you're also producing a lot of estriadol which has obvious unwanted side effects when you pull off your shirt at weigh in and tits flop out.

They're only found in breast cancer meds and nothing remotely resembling a "supplement" so will be interesting to see him talk/cry out of this one at the hearing. If Jones didn't fuck up so much he could be promoting his own PPV by now like Floyd did, he's such a good fighter with longevity in the sport could be selling Jon Jones cards instead of being suspended all the time. nb

Well, I know it was already reported, but it was confirmed to be estrogen blockers. Hilarious. Just to be clear though, estrogen blockers are not illegal, you can buy them off plenty of supplement sites. They're just banned by sports because there's only one reason an athlete would use them. Alright, I'm making it official. Bear witness as I make this proclamation: I want to someday be the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world. That's the goal I'm setting for myself and will work towards starting today.

I know this probably sounds ridiculous, but all my life I've never once really challenged myself. I've never once set a goal and then worked at it until I had accomplished it or failed beyond all attempts. I've never even really ever wanted anything other than to not be alone before in my life. I've never had any self esteem, but sometimes I know that I'm better than I give myself credit for, and that possibly if I just believed in myself I could actually accomplish something.

I'm not good with people, or at least, interacting with them sends me into a state of anxiety and almost OCD-like worry that lasts long after the interaction has ended. I feel stuck, limited by my neuroses, but this is something I know I can do. Or perhaps to put it more accurately, I know I can try to do.

I have a realistic picture of how this is going to go. This is going to be a war against myself with many many battles, and I'm not going to win them all, but I swear to myself that I'm going to win the war. I swore that the moment my dad told me that if I went boxing all the black guys would beat me up and that I stood no chance against any of them. He wanted me to stay at home, like he always does. I realized then that he had failed in his responsibility as a parent to instill his child with self confidence and many of the life experiences that usually build that confidence. I determined that as an adult I was going to take that responsibility back into my own hands. It's a difficult task given what little self esteem I have to work with but I think I'm up to it. I didn't for a long time, but after seeing how delusional people are on /r9k/ and elsewhere on the chans, I realized that I've been just as delusional.

I'm using this thread because I know I need peer pressure to make myself do anything. I'm going to be reporting in periodically with progress reports.

This thread is pure gold, fucking A to everyone who's contributed because I've gotten a lot of good stuff from this thread.

Not OP but oddly enough I'm in a similar situation in which I'm looking to join a boxing gym in September. I work out at home so over the last few months I've been making my workouts more regular and adding in 30 mins of cardio daily. On top of that I started jogging last week and I hope to incorporate that 2-3 times per week (first jogging sesh murked my legs / lower back, but yesterday's run doesn't seem to have any lingering effects today)

My main reason for joining is because I have always wanted to learn a discipline and I feel like I need that sort of structure in my life (I'd also like to beat people up and win a title belt eventually). I'm also not the best at team sports so something individualized like this is very appealing to me.

I like the idea of practising a few different techniques to get comfortable with them, any good YouTube links I can check out??

I'll def have to look into the daily journal

Good luck and SLAYER to anyone trying to get their shit togeather

Is this real? How many fighters are there roughly? Are there weight divisions? Are the rules any different? Do they fight mainstream fighter?

I really wonder how the soccer mom types react to this. When you want MMA to be banned because of its sheer masculine brutality but you also want people with disabilities to be included in everything... how do you react to this??

Pretty sure they just fight in their normal divisions. There was a guy with like a stump for an arm that won a title in a smaller promotion a few years ago, a guy with down syndrome that fought an amateur fight and had a news story on him and I don't know if he's actually disabled, but there's a really short guy in I think Bellator that fought in the 135lb division.

What else would you expect someone to do against a dangerous man with one hit knockout power. Stand and bang? Well gee whiz, in that case, why the fuck didn't Holly Holm jump into Ronda's guard? The reason he did it was because he was trying to win the fucking fight. And that round 3 was EXTREMELY dominant, it reminded me of Hunt's fight against Stipe Miocic where the only reason it went for another round was because the ref failed to stop it. I did love how people cheered Brock's takedowns, but booed DC for doing the same thing against a man considered by many to be the best fighter ever.

McGregor vs Diaz 2 is pretty much confirmed for UFC 200. How do people feel about it? Do you think McGregor will fair much better if he doesn't gas? Or will Nate on a full training camp lead to a dominating victory for him?

There's also talk of Velasquez vs Browne and Dos Anjos vs Alverez. Would a main card with those 3 fights be big enough for 200?

yeah, it's also a matter of being in the right place at the right time. among other things, ufc has SO MANY shows now, they have weird title fights where maybe the person getting the shot isn't the top contender (UFC had nunes ranked as the #4 contender going into the fight, and the #3 zingano fought earlier in the night). they needed someone to face tate. right after she won the belt in march, dana said it would be rousey (who was ranked #2), and maybe in a perfect world, that fight or a holm rematch would have happened at UFC 200, but here we are...

also, regardless of the outcome, tate vs nunes would have been a perfectly cromulent undercard fight. i think it's getting some flack because it was thrust into the main event of UFC 200 by some bizarre set of circumstances.

Got around to watching this just now. Really underwhelming overall, but there were a couple good fights. You just can't make a PPV card the GOAT just because it ends in double zeroes, oh well. Jones pissing hot really hurt the card badly because that blood feud with Cormier would have been incredible to watch. Also fucking lol @ the UFC's complete mess of a women's bantamweight division. It's like women's NCAA basketball but instead of having one alpha (UConn) destroying everyone you have a bunch of mediocre fighters playing hot potato with a belt that has absolutely no prestige. UFC really fucked up for not having a Tate-Holm rematch because their first fight was great and it would have protected the big money Tate-Rousey/Holm-Rousey rematch for December that's now completely imploded. Tate looked absolutely dreadful, too. She's learned absolutely nothing from her almost burning out last year and her incredible win against Holm.

ESPN rumor: UFC owners looking to sell the business, in advanced talks by Arm Van Dam - Tue, 10 May 2016 21:55:03 EST ID:lEcZpBZD No.57062 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

>The owners of the UFC are in advanced talks to sell the business, sources told ESPN.com.

>At least four bidders are believed to have submitted bids for the organization, including WME/IMG, China Media Capital, The Blackstone Group and Dalian Wanda Group. The winning bid, should things proceed, is expected to be for a valuation between $3.5 billion and $4 billion, multiple sources with knowledge of the negotiations told ESPN.com.

>"As a private company, we don't discuss speculation or rumors related to our business," said Dave Sholler, vice president of public relations and athlete marketing for the UFC.

>Investment bank Goldman Sachs has been representing Zuffa LLC, which bought the UFC in 2001 for only $2 million. Sources with knowledge of the numbers presented to potential investors said that Goldman Sachs had represented UFC's last full year earnings in the $200 million to $250 million range, before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. A new television rights deal, which would begin in 2019, could add an additional $250 million in annual revenue to the bottom line, investors were advised.

>Lorenzo Fertitta, who with his brother Frank owned more than 80 percent of the business at last public acknowledgment, told CNN in December that the private company grossed about $600 million in revenue last year. Besides the Fertittas, who are each worth about $1.6 billion, according to Forbes, the company has two other minority investors: UFC president Dana White and the Abu Dhabi government, which, under its Flash Entertainment arm, bought a 10 percent stake in the business for an undisclosed sum in 2010.

>The leader in the bid to buy the biggest mixed martial arts business in the world is said to be Chinese-based conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group, sources said. Its chairman, Wang Jianlin, is the richest man in China, worth nearly $35 billion, according to Forbes Magazine.

>The company has slowly been getting into sports. Last year, Wanda bought a 20 percent stake in soccer superpower Atletico Madrid for a reported $48 million. In March, amid the FIFA scandal, the company agreed to sign on as a FIFA partner, the highest level of sponsorship, through 2030.

>Other bidders said to be in the mix are WME/IMG, which owns media properties and represents athletes, including Rousey, the former UFC bantamweight champion. Blackstone Group is also believed to be a bidder. A senior executive at the private equity firm, David Blitzer, owns a minority stake in the New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia 76ers and British soccer team Crystal Palace.

Interesting that Dana is staying on, and from the sound of it his stake in the company is actually going to increase once the Fertittas bow out once the acquisition is complete. When does UFC's current deal with Fox come up for renegotiation? I've got to think they're going to get serious interest from ESPN, CBS and HBO this time around after they all pussyfooted during the last bidding that Fox ran away with.

IIRC they recently signed a $100 million deal with Fox which is what drove most of the $4 billion price tag as that was guaranteed income for whoever bought the promotion.

Dana owned 9% so cashed out $360 million dollars plus got a new stake in this company, plus he's already paid something like $15-20 million per year in bonuses and CEO salary. That Emirates prince who bought in $100 million for a 10% stake way back when just cashed out $400 million, he will probably kill many goats in celebration tonight.

Also, Fertitta's exit strategy was pretty sound. They took on as much risk as they can whereas these new owners have insane capital and connections to survive shit like new promotions popping up since UFC already laid all the hard groundwork getting regulators to allow MMA prize fighting in their states. When Dana first started UFC was illegal in almost every US state. Now any jackass with $100 million can show up and start a promotion, steal away top UFC fighters, use existing PPV network, shill via social media to save on advertising costs ect. Good time to get out

A bit general for this board, but I found something worth a read. Apparently, doctors have devised a new surgery for ACL tears that gets the ACL fixed in 6 - 8 weeks and an athlete back to training within three months. All preliminary, of course, but this could be huge for fighters in a few years when it's no longer considered experimental.

>On Wednesday, doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital announced that they have succeeded in reconnecting A.C.L.s in 10 patients using a novel technique.

>Their preliminary results at three months suggest that healing an original A.C.L. without the usual grafts may be a viable option in the future.

>In a preliminary study to assess safety, Dr. Martha Murray and her team at Boston Children’s Hospital performed standard reconstructions on 10 patients with A.C.L. tears and the experimental procedure, called bridge-enhanced A.C.L. repair, on 10 others.

>In the experimental technique, the surgeons placed a blood-soaked sponge between the ligament’s severed ends; the sponge acted as a bridge, helping the ligament grow back together over the next six to eight weeks.

>No participants in either group had ligaments that failed to reconnect, got an infection or had stiff knees.

>Three months after the operation, Mr. Peak, a doctoral candidate at Harvard School of Public Health, was back to running on the treadmill. This spring he will play ultimate Frisbee and soccer.

>However, repaired A.C.L.s have failed in the past. In the 1980’s, surgeons tried stitching torn A.C.L.s back together. The initial results were good, but five years later, less than half of those knees remained stable, Dr. Hannafin said.

He could probably make a decent living just making appearances in Guy Ritchie flicks.
I wonder (but too lazy to Google) about whether how much time passes with a detached retina effects the ability to recover vision... I'm really stoned right now and maybe that's why I'm stuck on the thought of a human being walking around with a goddamned detached retina, and if he's actually able to have a surgery to reattach, then why the fuck wouldn't he?

It's absolutely true, I believe a few years ago his retina got detached from just driving over a pothole. Imagine what Anderson Silva must've done to it with that knee.

Now I begin to wonder if he would've been allowed to compete in Pride FC since those fuckin ringside doctors were so hell bent on establishing vision from both eyes...

Remember that Wandy vs Cro Cop they had that motherfucker following their fingers, poking at his eye, lifting his swollen eyelid over n over for like 15 goddamned minutes. So if both eyes are that crucial to em, do they allow him to fight at all? Or make him get his eyeball fixed first?

This is just awful. Seems like MMA has fighters dying young but more so outside of the ring - http://www.mmafighting.com/platform/amp/2016/6/27/12037774/ufc-veteran-ryan-jimmo-killed-in-hit-and-run-at-age-34

Damn that really sucks. I remember my mate being pretty hyped for his debut because he's a real big follower of Karate, and then he goes on to KO Perosh in under 10 seconds while he was on a win streak, which finally pushed him to go train at PTT instead of Australia.

Man this is just tragic and right as he was supposed to main event Bellator 158. This year has not been kind for combat sports deaths.

Yeah, I hadn't read that it was a heart attack when I posted and I thought for some reason Bellator 158 was June 18, not July 16 |(I don't watch Bellator at all). Figured it could've been a Dada situation.

Yeah one of the times I saw him was him yelling stuff at the camera while a bunch of girls are getting out of the limo, I don't know if he was driving though.

what.

greatest all time, if you think otherwise you're a contrarian who doesn't read (shitty) boxing columnists/sports writers.

>I reply:
Actual boxing columnists wrote in 1999 Sugar Ray was the fighter of the century, not Ali. Every single boxing "columnist" agrees Sugar Ray is the greatest who ever lived https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_Ray_Robinson#Legacy

Since you are unable to comprehend english I will highlight this for you
>Robinson has been ranked as the greatest boxer of all time by sportswriters, fellow boxers, and trainers

Sugar Ray also didn't dodge the Army in WW2 and did his service unlike Ali who draft dodged, then tried to turn it into a civil rights thing when he would've never seen any combat and would just have given exhibitions to the soldiers. I don't hate Ali but he was the greatest shit talker and best at becoming famous, not the greatest fighter.
