What do you guys think about this. Personally I think it's a step in the right direction but I do question Bjorn Rebney leading it considering his reputation when he was running Bellator.

Bjorn Rebney bugs me but Tim "I kill women and children and PTSD is for pussies lol" Kennedy being one of the founders really concerns me

also i find it absolutely hillarious that an authoritarian right-wing dick head such as Kennedy is pro-union when it directly benefits him

Not to mention Rebney doesn't have a great track record with dealing with fighters and all the contract disputes he got into when he ran Bellator like with Eddie Alvarez.

Guys, I wanna get into MMA. What's a good starting point? I heard UFC has weekly shows on saturdays but I cringe when I hear they're over 6 hours long

Suzuki is related enough I guess
Junior Dos Santos - Tue, 06 Dec 2016 20:39:51 EST ID:iNRvwfyh No.57605 Ignore Report Quick Reply
If money is not an issue, UFC Fight Pas is a great way to not only catch up on any UFC and start from there, you also get old PRIDE fights, GLORY events and a whole bunch more content.

As for the lengths of the shows, they can be pretty long. A good rule of thumb is to not miss the main cards That's where the best fighters are gonna be and you'll get more competitive fights and ususally only last about 3-4 hours, but if your trying to learn the ins-and-outs of MMA, I recommend watching as much fights as possible to understand concepts and positions.

Watching on the tube helps as well. You don't have to sit through boring promos or commercials and it makes it go by a lot quicker when you're chatting with your bros. Hope I could be of some assistence today :)

I wonder if dana would allow a different fighter to keep two belts under different circumstances. there are pros and cons to it & boxers hold titles at multiple weights pretty often.
CM Punk (Team Asuka) !uhdacqdci6 - Mon, 14 Nov 2016 21:18:54 EST ID:vrEWpBpo No.57578 Ignore Report Quick Reply
Boxing has a ton of different weight classes though. Floyd Mayweather fought across five different weight classes, but there was only a 24 pound difference from the lightest to the heaviest class he fought in. There's a 25 pound difference from featherweight to welterweight in the UFC, and it doesn't help that MMA has a much larger emphasis on weight cutting than any other sport (even wrestling, since wrestling has instituted mandatory weight cutting limits). There are also multiple organizations with their own sets of titles for weight classes, while UFC only has one for each class.

He likely would if they drew like Conor does.
Rampage Jackson - Fri, 18 Nov 2016 11:18:15 EST ID:AC1VIXV5 No.57587 Ignore Report Quick Reply
i think conor being the draw that he is precisely the reason why dana doesn't want him to hold two belts.

going from one weight division to another takes time. you want your top draw out there as many times as possible.
champions probably fight more than non champions. you don't want to over expose your top draw, or have them get hurt sooner because they are constantly cutting & facing top competition from two weight classes.

If anything, putting a less exciting guy like mighty mouse in this position might actually get guys to buy his fights...

Who are your MMA "boys"? Those MMA fighters that aren't particulary popular or well known but you look forward to watching? The names you're looking out for on the prelim cards?

No major championships
No main event fights on major promotion's cards (UFC, Bellator, Pride)
Exceptions for the above rules can be made, for example if they were a late replacement who wouldn't be put in that position normally or the opponent is obviously the sole draw. (e.g. Joe Soto when he stepped in for Barao to fight Dillashaw).
Women can also be a "boy", but refer to them as your "girl"

Mine are Ulka Sasaki (his first fight seriously impressed me and I liked his attitude for a Japanese fighter, I also want more Japanese fighters in UFC), Michael Chiesa (although he's rapidly getting too good to be a boy, exciting fighter and great attitude), Alex Caceres (very memorable on the Ultimate fighter, I'm all for Bruce Lee fanboys actually fighting and you don't know what you expect from him) and Ryan Hall (heel hooks! I like BJJ and seeing this relatively regular looking, laid back guy beat dudes who look like they're 2 weight classes above him. His fight with Artem "nice and flowey Artem!" Lobov was legit hilarious and memorable for me).

If you're an aspiring MMA fighter, don't worry about minor things like "winning fights", just suck on the tit of the most popular fighter in the company.

you came back after more then a month to bump this shit tier troll thread?

Everyone knew this would bring in hopeless wrestling virgins and probably increase sales because they are picking up a big audience of autism kids who want to see their favorite fake fighter try out in a real life fight.

He got beat in seconds and they tuned out, do you think it isnt some sort of unique event? it won't be repeated he will not fight in the UFC again, and even if he did he wouldn't draw as much because the hopeless wrestling virgins have already come to the conclusion that the sport is fake and people like punk who want to fight in the real leagues will just be destroyed by young kids.

Eddie at least is trash talking Conor's skills, but it's kinda weak...

Been watching for 2 years now, there is a gym 1 and a half hours away by bus so I thought I would at least check it out.

Going there next Wednesday, they have a 10th planet and bang muay thai under their gym name and I was wondering how I should go in there and what is important to ask.

I have considered asking: What classes when, should I buy a rash guard for BJJ (at the beginning) and, of course, how much each class costs.

Going to task this somewhat seriously, so I want to show them that and other than training as hard as I can, what can I do so that I don't end up sparring 40 year old married men, what I mean is, I don't want to end up in classes where it is not serious.

Also looking for local boxing gym just to hone in on fundamentals a few weeks after MMA, sounds good or should I ditch the boxing style of striking and go with MMA style of punching?
Antoni Hardonk - Thu, 22 Sep 2016 17:41:27 EST ID:wAJK7Kco No.57519 Ignore Report Quick Reply
boxing is good for more than just punching technique. it helps with hand speed, footwork, discipline and defense. if you can afford it (money and timewise), i'd say go for it. but first make sure they are training you to fight and not training you for fitness.
Rani Yahya - Thu, 29 Sep 2016 19:33:23 EST ID:PuEqyl5k No.57538 Ignore Report Quick Reply
I pay 200$ for muay thai and bjj with mma
You will gradually progress into classes, don't think about it. Always remain humble and you will learn faster. Just tell them you wish to be a fighter, they will train you differently and put more effort into you. As for the striking style I cannot answer for sure as mma striking is constantly evolving and we don't really know what is best.
Riki Fukuda - Sat, 01 Oct 2016 12:04:16 EST ID:PuEqyl5k No.57539 Ignore Report Quick Reply
I just started training again recently and I have found success with my unorthodox point style dutch muay thai where I keep it on the outside with a erratic striking pace. I often counter strike but love to surprise my partner with a very unexpected technical blitz. It depends on your body style though, one size does not fit all. I'm not saying I'm good or anything, I need a lot of work, especially in the pocket-I would be in trouble in close quarters street fight.

So it seems mma is evolving currently in the striking department, mainly karate point style fighting(staying on the outside, out of your reach but then covering that distance that people don't expect then out of range after the strike) and tae kwon do kicks. Fighters such as stephen thompson, michael page, sage northcut, GSP have all found success in their point style striking. Is this because it is superior or so unorthodox that fighters don't know how to deal with it? What about the tae kwon do kicks we are now seeing popularized today?
Eddie Sanchez - Thu, 29 Sep 2016 14:02:46 EST ID:3iuDpjL4 No.57537 Ignore Report Quick Reply
there is unorthodox striking, but a lot of these guys aren't doing it. Machida came with strikes from unorthodox angles and it was very hard to find a sparring partner who could recreate his style. That's part of the reason he was so successful. GSP is similar in that he is so fast, you can't really prepare for it. As these guys get older, they slow down which makes it easier to defend.

there is also the UFC bias where they want to put exciting fights on TV and they think knocks outs are most exciting. are guys adapting to that? i think that's an interesting question. in what other world does Fabricio Werdum open a round with a flying side kick? it got people talking...

There are plenty of successful guys in MMA that don't fight like this though.
