EA confirms CM Punk will be in UFC 2 by nowah (Cesaro Section) !BWG1quPheY - Mon, 28 Dec 2015 18:07:14 EST ID:Up5V7eVn No.56659 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

>Though he was not part of the WWE’s recent WWE 2K16 video game, CM Punk fans who want to control their favourite star on screen can rest easy: he will be a playable character in the upcoming UFC 2 from EA Sports, despite having yet to appear in the octagon and having no professional fights as a mixed martial artist.

>That makes grading his strengths and weaknesses for the game somewhat problematic, no doubt. While the roster includes up to 250 fighters from Conor McGregor to Russia’s Alexandra Albu, only Punk, it seems, has zero fights in the promotion. How did EA gauge his abilities on the mat and as a striker? That remains to be seen. However, it’s clear the video game giant, and the UFC, didn’t want to lose out on the extra attention including Punk would bring. At the end of the day, it’s a business decision, nothing more.

>On the flip side, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is not present in the game, but that’s more than likely the result of the WWE having video game rights to his likeness. Lesnar was part of UFC 1, but that was back before his new WWE deal. Should something be worked out down the line, however, he could no doubt be added in as an additional fighter via downloadable content.

>EA Sports UFC 2 got a solid review in an early look from MMA Junkie, and looks to be the best mixed martial arts video game to date. As it stands, it’s looking at a Spring 2016 release, so we’ll know soon – and there’s a good chance fans will get to see CM Punk fight in the game before he ever sets foot in the octagon in real life.

Don't have a link handy so whatever, but Punk is confirmed the lowest-rated fighter on the roster and will basically be absolute dogshit in the game until he has his first professional fight, at that point EA said they'll patch in his "corrected" stats and whatnot. So basically it sounds like Punk's in-game character will be the equivalent of when you could use managers as your character in the old WWE Smackdown games and you had like rated 50 everything.

Anybody can enter a team the only criteria is must have no pro fight record and your team has a collective weight limit max I believe. Foot stomping and soccer kicks to downed opponents allowed which is the dumbest idea ever as somebody will die in the ring one day. Nobody checks the fighters at ringside either they could be stuffing their gloves with steel shot for all anybody would know.

Nah, the guys in TFC are all trained in MMA to varying degrees and they wear gloves. The earlier ones were basically a 5 on 5 free for all under Vale Tudo rules.
It's evolving and getting more professional with every event. They've now banned the soccer kicks and brought it more into line with unified rules.

There was a time before MMA was even considered a sport when people were saying the same shit ITT about the early UFC events.

So, I'm a huge fan of martial arts films, and I know Muay Thai has been in a number of movies out of Thailand, but has anybody noticed Donnie Yen sometimes incorporates MMA concepts in his movies that are meant to take place in the modern day and be more realistic (as opposed to films set in the past before MMA would be known in China, or films that are meant to be wuxia style fantasy)?

This scene has a lot of MMA elements, and he still manages to get some great stunts thrown in. All in all, cool as fuck.

Anybody know any other movies that draw on MMA a lot for the fight scenes?

The movie you linked, Flash Point, was a spiritual sequel to SPL, which was the first great mix-up of MMA and Hong Kong action. Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung used a lot of MMA in the choreography, those two are always looking for something new, whether it's Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do, or just boxing.

Other movies with MMA? Under Siege 2 had a brief fight between John Machado and Steven Seagal. Rorion Gracie consulted on Lethal Weapon, thus Mel Gibson's triangle choke at the end.

I really wanted to like Red Belt, but the guy brought in to consult on MMA was a traditional martial artist who hates MMA, and the film reflects that, making it out to be corrupt and rigged. Warrior remains the only MMA-themed film worth watching.

There's a lot of MMA fighters popping up in action films, and they're all completely wasted. These days even the martial arts films in Hollywood look like they were performed on valium.

Ignoring actual documentaries, there's The Hammer, the Matt Hammill biopic.

Honestly, there isn't much MMA in film, or good MMA films. There's more good Muay Thai and good Muay Thai films- Ong Bak, Beautiful Boxer, Duel Of Fists, Kickboxer, King Of The Kickboxers, Born To Fight (Kurd Ma Lui).

SPL is one of my favorite Hong Kong films (action or otherwise) of all time. I just linked Flash Point because that fight scene displays it more noticeably, I think.

I don't only like MMA-themed martial arts movies; some straight up kung fu films are among my favorite movies ever. I just thought it would be a cool discussion to have.

Anyway, I'll check out Under Siege 2 and rewatch Lethal Weapon. I'll also watch Warrior.

Have you seen Ong Bak 3? That fight scene with the elephants near the end was so over the top, I loved it. Hadn't seen any of the others on that list, though. Thanks for the recommendations.

(If you haven't seen Chocolate, I highly recommend it. Thai film full of homages to all the kung fu greats.)

I just remembered, American Tigers (1996), had a short but very smooth fight between Rorion Gracie and Cynthia Rothrock (in a cameo playing herself).
It was pretty b-grade, but also had Sam Jones (Flash Gordon) and Donald Gibb (Bloodsport, Revenge Of The Nerds).

This is a stacked card for a "Fight Night". It's almost PPV-worthy.

Here's the main card:

Bantamweight T.J. Dillashaw (c) vs. Dominick Cruz
Lightweight Anthony Pettis vs. Eddie Alvarez
Heavyweight Travis Browne vs. Matt Mitrione
Lightweight Ross Pearson vs. Francisco Trinaldo

I'm looking forward to Eddie Alvarez overcoming the odds to become a top contender at lightweight.

In all off martial arts, name one fighter who successfully came up a weight class and beat the champ, who has a game like Conor. He is all about timing and movement, even IF he can put on functional weight (which is a huge if..)

If you're a brawler, KO artist, grappler, ground specialist.. yeah its possible to hold a few belts. But his timing and movement is going to be way off. One misstep and a bomb from RDA and he's asleep.

Not saying it can't be done, but he will be the first martial artist (not just mixed) to ever pull that shit off. Making him all the more undisputed if he does actually nail it.. so yeah~

Connor does weight cutting trickery to fight in the manlet division he doesn't need to put on any weight at all. He drops like 25lbs in water weight then puts it all back by fight day. Fighting Dos Anjos is probably still 10+lbs under his normal walk around weight so absolutely no need for Connor to gain weight.

All this means is he doesn't have to cut as much so will probably be an even better fighter with more endurance. He also won't have to go anywhere, as he lives in Vegas so fight night for him is just down the street from his regular gym instead of flying out to hue land.

Everybody hates this guy, but he does teach for free and he does have the gift of teaching.

Everybody hated this guy, but he put a lot of stuff online for free, and he knew what he knew.

And these sites have step by step tutorials.

General advice for solo training that I can give is, get a full length mirror so you can check your form and a heavy bag so you know when you're hitting with force.

Like, obviously every person training in MMA doesnt plan on making a career out of it, some just wanna be able to kick some ass, defned themselves etc. but ive always heard its not legal outside the ring or against untrained people or something like that because your hands are lethal weapons at some point? If not that its friends of mine who get in lots of fights talking about respect and how people who start ause they can win based on their mma training are like bullies and are not real fighters.. So whats the real common concesuses on this with everyone here?

Just make sure to train yourself in groin strikes and eye gouging and you'll be fine. Trying to street fight using professional MMA is gonna be a bad time, man. You'd be better off just training in boxing to improve your speed and hand-eye coordination.
Hermes Franca - Sun, 06 Dec 2015 07:09:13 EST ID:qZFjoV3k No.56570 Ignore Report Quick Reply
No, the old urban legend about martial artists having to register their hands and feet as lethal weapons is false.

Yes, MMA training will give you a significant advantage in a street fight, in terms of strength, speed and stamina, conditioning against fear, pain and impact, and techniques for striking and grappling.

Compared to traditional martial arts it's probably more practical, especially arts like Aikido, Wing Chun and Bujinkan who do no sparring or competition. The downside is the sporting arts have no specific disarming techniques against weapons, and little situational, context-specific self defence training against sucker punches, unfavourable environments, training against multiple opponents, or psychological preparation in de-escalation or knowing when to stop attacking someone.

The specific street-fighting styles, the so-called "reality" systems and the military and law enforcement systems, can run to either extremely effective or extremely ineffective, depending on the instructor and the degree of pressure-testing done during training. And one end of the spectrum you've got Krav Maga and Combato-derived systems like Keysi and Aaron Banks, and at the other there's stuff that borders on no-punch knockout bullshit, like Ki Chuan Do and some of the more ridiculous Systema I've seen, where people throw themselves through the air while the instructor does some interpretive jazz ballet.

An MMA fighter will always beat a street fighter unless the street fighter hits the MMA guy in the back of the head with half a brick when he's not looking or the MMA guy takes the street fighter down to the ground and lies on top of him until the street fighter's friends show up and cut his throat. MMA will give you superior ability, but street fighting is more intent and strategy.

Which isn't to say you can't combine the two, I don't like to keep saying Bas Rutten, but Bas Rutten.

Tl;dr: MMA will make you a better fighter. A good street fighter, an experienced street fighter knows how to beat a better fighter, but unless you're working as a cop or bouncer or living in a real shit-hole you probably won't have to fight a good street fighter.

And it is true that lawyers love prosecuting any kind of martial artist caught fighting or even just defending themselves.

One whiff of any kind of martial arts training and they'll paint you as a KARATE KILLER.

In countries where martial arts were banned (Philippines under the dictatorship, Brazil where the slaves had to hide their Capoeira bullshit) then yes you were expected to 'register' but that was only so they could come and arrest you later to prevent you from training anybody your skills.

If you are say, a known boxer or other fighter and you assault somebody then lawyers will be all over that in court usually trying to prove that you premeditated the assault or just use it to try and trip you up so you say something stupid by ridiculing your skill so you claim otherwise (which is why you never take the stand in any case, anytime, anywhere it will never help your case).

In states that have that ridiculous law based on "mutually agreed combat" having any kind of proven fighting skills you didn't disclose before fighting would likely make you guilty of assault which is why that wannabe super hero idiot Phoenix Jones can get away with beating people up on camera because he tells them he has training when trying to provoke a fight.
