So, IVs are going to be banned starting in October by CM Punk (Team Act Yasukawa) !uhdacqdci6 - Wed, 08 Jul 2015 00:14:15 EST ID:s7PHVekK No.56143 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Part of UFC's new drug testing protocols set by USADA. The ban was originally going to go in effect July 1st, but they delayed it because so many people are going to have to move up weight classes that already have fights set. Basically, after this, the dangers of weight cutting are going down to the fighters. We could be seeing some really shitty fights for a few months, come October. The reason IVs are being banned is because they can mask drug testing results, so banning them from weight cuts is a side effect of that.

http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2015/7/1/8881077/ufc-drug-testing-policy-usada-iv-ban-grace-period-october-weight-cutting-mma-news

As for my personal opinion, I know IVs are a really good and safe way to rehydrate, but it's also not natural at all. Weight classes are there to keep people weighing 185/170/205/whatever fighting people in a similar weight, NOT to allow guys to come in 30+ pounds over the weight limit only to try to get most of that weight back the day of the fight. I know boxers do weight cuts too, but this isn't just ten or so pounds we're talking about for most people here.

Anthony Johnson is a good example of a guy that weight cutting didn't even give an advantage to, he had losses only in lower weight divisions until DC beat him at 205. And keep in mind there was a time when Rumble's camp actually wanted him to fight at 155 because of the novelty of a fucking heavyweight fighting in the lightweight division. Obviously, it never happened, but the idea of a guy like Rumble trying to drop and recoup so much weight is fucking scary and isn't what the sport should be about.

Picture possibly related. I hope she doesn't change weight classes, but she doesn't look like her weight cut is so bad she uses IVs.

Oh, and Gilbert Melendez failed his day-of-fight drug test for steroids. Lucky bastard, he failed right before the new protocols and punishments went into effect.

Well, here's one for all you "Aldo is gonna wax McGregor" guys. Aldo has announced five months ahead of the bout his intention to ignore the new IV policy.

http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/7/19/8992883/jose-aldo-plans-to-ignore-usada-iv-ban-they-won-t-take-me-out-of-the

So, if Aldo wins and they catch him using IVs, he's being stripped of the title. Of course, the problem with his logic of them testing for what's in a saline solution proves how dumb he is, if he tries it (and I'm sure he will). After taking a quick, casual search for how they detect whether you used an IV in cycling, it appears they test for the plastics used in IV bags and tubes to bust guys (and yes, it does show up in urine). Never mind the probability that UFC might put him under some mandatory surveillance after weigh-ins for announcing to the world his plans to cheat the system. Since IVs are supposed to be a way to mask drug tests, it's possible he could get a 2 year suspension (up to 4 for "aggravating circumstances" including "egregious intent", which I think this qualifies as) for doing it. Probably not Aldo's smartest move.

IVs for weight cut rehydrating mask blood doping. There's no way to detect somebody who's taken out their own blood, ran it through a centrifuge to isolate red blood cells, then packed that hemoglobin back in to get Lance Armstrong cardio levels except if you look for the presence of IV bag chemicals (which I'm sure they will find a way to get around, make millions selling undetectable IV bags). Before EPO and synthetic oxygen was invented all the Olympic cyclists used blood doping.

McGregor also drops 30 lbs to fight in that division so him and Aldo both will drop from exhaustion in the first round or get KO'd by a slap in the face unless they rehydrate properly. The smart thing to do would be to vacate the belt and join the Welterweight division

I'd have to agree, McGregor did NOT look good after weigh-ins. Neither did Chad Mendes, but Mendes only had two weeks to even start cutting that weight. All the press tours and TUF will also get in the way of any attempts by McGregor to get closer to being a natural 145 (and then he loses all the advantages he has in the division anyways). It's gonna be funny if they both miss weight or fail for IVs when UFC 194 comes and goes.

So Fedor is apparently coming out of retirement

Best case scenario is they give him some nostalgia matches or maybe his UFC debut at UFC 200.

What do you want to see from Fedor

Bellator are all about bullshit sideshows so he'll fight retired Randy Couture or something stupid for a bunch of money http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2015/7/16/8981081/mma-news-randy-couture-to-think-about-coming-out-of-retirement-to-face-fedor

Couture would get murdered by a washed-up Fedor now that he's been retired for so long, he's in his 50's, and drug testing is a lot more organized than it used to be. It would be like the Kimbo-Ken shitshow all over again but turned up to 11 since Fedor can still go.

They'll both be juiced to the tits in bellator, they don't do the kind of testing UFC does so can cycle it out in time, and also IV bags aren't banned so tons of blood packing and blood doping can still be done.

I doubt Fedor would juice now considering he likely never did before. He's just a pudgy sambo guy with retard strength from within. Couture was a great wrestler but PED's gave him a second life in his 40's that he just wouldn't be able to recapture in his 50's, let alone against Fedor's tard strength. Couture won't be able to knock Fedor out, and in his advanced age I don't see him being able to stop Fedor's sambo.

So McGregor TKO'd Mendes at the end of round 2. UFC 189 was a fucking brilliant main card, possibly one of the best I've seen in a long long time.

This motherfucker needs to work on his take down defence though.

It was suspicious he just gave up but McGregor does have a seriously hard punch that none of the manlets in that weight division have ever experienced. McGregor is hacking the UFC gibson by dropping 30 lbs to fight in that division and punch out dudes the size of 8th graders. It'd be like Cyborg dropping to Atomweight and uppercutting tiny jap girls straight out of the ring.

I'm sure hes packing a nice punch, even tho' Mendes himself said he is just accurate but not that powerful.
While Poirier got hit in the back of the head and so its difficult to say how much damage that did since its such a sensitive area, Brandao, Siver and Mendes all did the same thing. Going to a half defensive shell while leaning or standing close to the cage and then taking a 1-2 and curling up on the floor while waiting for the fight to be stopped.
SAME THING and I simply can't look past that pattern.

Mendes totally wrestlefucked McGregor, and he is literally a manlet almost 1/2 the size of McGregor.

McGregor needs to work on that ground game. Edgar is a manlet and will get KO'd by any punch Conor throws but Aldo is no joke, if McGregor can stuff takedowns properly then he can survive Aldo but still it looks to me like McGregor shouldn't be in this division, he towered over manlet Mendes like a Gr. 8 kid fighting a 25yr old NFL player.

Good breakdown of UFC 188 to dispel all the bullshit still around claiming altitude cost Cain the belt http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2015/6/18/8779811/ufc-188-judo-chop-fabricio-werdum-efficiency-cain-velasquez-mma-technique-jab-guillotine-fight-gif

Werdum solidly outclassed him everywhere, like how he easily picked Cain apart with jabs since he fell for all the feints Werdum threw. Cain's coaches are clownshow, especially that 2nd round corner guy who suggested he take down a guy well known for hardly ever fighting a takedown attempt since he will almost always win on the ground if you're stupid enough to try it. In the UFC pre-fight shilling videos all Cain's coaches did was hype how "Mexican" he was and clearly don't know shit about what they are doing.

Cain needs to
>fire his entire worthless staff, especially the corner guys and coaches
>go train with real MMA coaches and not select them by ethnic background but by proven results
>learn how to box
>stop relying on his push up against the cage strategy when dealing with experienced fighters like Werdum
>wait out Werdum's retirement to get the belt back since no chance of beating Werdum without being humiliated again

"This is the reason I believe in fight training. I don't want to be helpless if I ever have to fight against a person like this."

Chances are, if you're literate and live in a developed nation, you won't ever encounter this in your life. People have these irrational phobias in regards to their masculinity and livelihood about fighting or "defending themselves". That man is/was a professional kickboxer. The amount of training and experience he has put it easily surpasses the 10%> threshold. To reach his level, you would have to become a professional fight. But regardless, it's not really something you should ever feel threatened by. And in all honesty, I'd shoot a man dead before dealing with that bullshit. His brain and wits are probably all fucked from brain damage incurred while training, it's also probably what gives him such a ruthless and violent disposition. People like him are a dime-a-dozen, but if you live above a certain class-level you'll never have to deal with him.

P.S. I went one day at this camp where the head muay thai coach asked me who I wanted to spar with for the first time, during light training, and I suggested him (to get the most experience in such a short time). He punished me, like I was challenging him (although I was just curious of his skill and wanted to learn). My face was so bruised, I was punch-drunk for a week after. I decided at that point brain damage, versus intelligence, wasn't worth the discipline of the sport. It also makes people highly aggressive, impulsive, and just unpleasant to be around in most situations, though I've met some really nice ex-pro boxers.

That podcast was alright. Too bad I look up his name on Sherdog and he had one pro fight which he lost in under a minute.

Decent points about the gloves, no doubt it would be closest to "natural", and would = less KO's, more hand injuries unless they change technique.

And the basketball court-sized arena would be infinitely better. It's just real as fuck, removes the cage-fucking (which is not found anywhere else) and leaves only real, timed takedowns and lets you see everything.

gotta stop posting while i'm drunk.

he explains that fight. it is apparently a big part of the book. arm-bared like a white belt i guess.

the way the sport is you just cant get rid of um. duke roufus's knuckles. at least wraps would have to be in play. still longevity of your hands decrease exponentially.
those eye-pokes though....pride gloves maybe? (inherently curve your fingers).

no matter how big the ring is people will always exploit the edge. either with cage fucking or endless ring-out/stand up/ resets. Being able to seee the action live is big!

A huge ring and half the shitty bastards fighting these days would just turn and run like Houston Alexander, unless you had World Combat League rules against "passivity" and "timidity".

To add, that man's stand up game is shit. He's more of a ground and pound type of brawler. If it's worthy anything, try to outbox him. You should do well if it's kept standing. Idk how he won that fight, his opponent was way more consistent and had superior striking. Any work on the ground was just Martinez trying to batter him till he blacked out of tapped.

Go after his legs. He can't box you without his feet under him. Work on your wrestling so you can have at least a basic takedown defense. Otherwise youre going to smoke him with your standup game, at least I'd hope so with twelve years of TKD and Thai. As long as you stay on your feet you'll dominate.

Otherwise, take it one minute at a time and good luck. You got this!

Uh, I think his fight already happened/didn't happen guys. He said it was "next month" in April. The fact that he didn't come back to post means either a.) didn't happen, b.) he lost, or c.) he's too busy fuckin all the bitches to be on the internet to give us the deets on what went down.

Coming off a historic season that saw the crowning of the UFC’s first-ever Women’s Strawweight champion, the next installment of The Ultimate Fighter looks to raise the stakes once again. For the first time in the show’s 10-year history, a gym versus gym format will be introduced pitting fighters from the famed American Top Team against those from Blackzilians, all while living together under one roof in South Florida. It will be a monumental season, as $500,000, the first-ever The Ultimate Fighter Team Trophy and most importantly, ultimate bragging rights, are all up for grabs. The decisions and strategy determined by each team have never impacted the show as much as they will this season.

This season features eight rising welterweights from each team who will be selected by their respective gym owner to live in a South Florida house alongside their competition. The fighters will continue to train at their home gym with their own coaches and sparring partners. However, fights will no longer be held at a neutral site and now move to the teams’ respective gyms, always leaving one fighter to compete in enemy territory. Adding to the anticipation ahead of each bout, opponents won’t be known until the weigh-in. The culmination of the season will see two fighters meet at The Ultimate Fighter Finale in summer 2015, where the winning gym will be crowned.

The season premieres April 22 at 10pm EDT / 3am BST on Fox Sports 1 and in /mma/tube - http://taima.tv/r/mma. Here are the fighters and coaches for both teams:

>American Top Team:

*Head Coach: Dan Lambert
*Marcelo Alfaya (16-7-1 NC) - Porto Alegre, Brazil
*Steve Carl (21-4) - Belle Plain, Iowa
*Nathan Coy (14-5) - Vallejo, California
*Michael Graves (4-0) - Toledo, Ohio
*Hayder Hassan (6-1) - Fort Lauderdale, Florida
*Sabah Homasi (8-4) - New Brunswick, New Jersey

The problem is that the people with talent are never going to be on TUF, UFC will just pick them. All the TUF fighters now are gonna be part of that flooded roster of 500. I've even heard the winner of TUF 18, Chris Holdsworth, is being considered for being cut. That nigga won and hasn't even fought in a YEAR and noone cares. Suffice it to say, no top ten fighters are ever going to be on TUF anymore. UFC has expanded too much, and they continue to do so. They'll just let TUF be their jabroni manufacturing plant.

TUF has outlived its usefulness in finding new UFC fighters and their ratings aren't what they used to be.

There's a correlation. Top tier fighters are never going to be on the show anymore (unless it's a women's division season, for now) and the show's simply not going to be entertaining because of it. I caught up on the show and every episode Dana is bitching about how he wants these guys to "go for broke" in their fights, which makes absolutely no sense for the guys since they're all very low quality fighters to begin with AND they have to think about how they're going to potentially fight again in a few weeks. If they stopped their expansion and started holding back on seasons until they find some real talent, maybe TUF could be a cornerstone of UFC programming again. But that'll never happen as long as they're putting on shows every single week and have to fill in contractually obligated air time.

Now, I know what three or four people reading my thoughts are thinking. "Wasn't it Chris Leben pissing on a bed the real reason TUF got popular?" Of course. The problem is, that was pushing boundaries ten years ago. Reality TV has so thoroughly eroded the fabric of society that Felice Herrig can show her cooter on cable television and it's no big deal. And it appears that this season's big "shock" moment was a dude having a fucking seizure on camera. That didn't shock or interest me. It appalled me. The man was close to fucking dying and the camera man's first thought isn't, "HOLY FUCKING SHIT, I NEED TO GET THIS MAN SOME HELP", no, it's "I NEED TO GET THIS ON CAMERA". Fuck Reality TV.

Just got caught up on the whole season. Only thoughts that stick with me are

>Blackzillians are beasts and just fight
>the 3 vets from ATT losing was just sad
>Glenn Robinson is the modern day John du Pont?
>Hayder "I'M NEXT (LEMME BANG) BRO" Hassan

And also, isn't it crazy the level of difference between UFC-tier fighters and guys who are a step below? It's like watching them wade through slow motion, and you can pick nearly any top 15 WW to demolish most of these guys in minutes.

Also, anyone else prefer how they capture video/audio for TUF compared to the production of other UFC events? Feels more raw, true to life, and the audio capturing strikes is better.

They're probably using omnidirectional microphones in TUF, exactly to "capture the whole room and what it feels to be there", whereas in the big UFC events that would be impossible due to the insane levels of noise coming from the crowd. A really interesting observation for sure; I'll have to watch some episodes now.
