Hi guys. This isn't strictly MMA related, but do we have any experienced CMA guys on here? I've been doing Tai Chi for a few years and love it, I love doing the forms and the push hands and everything.
To make it more MMA related, why do you think we don't see more Sanda champions in UFC?

The real reason why you don't see many Chinese/Japanese martial arts in the UFC IMO (from someone who has done Japanese Kung Fu)

Almost every Chinese and Japanese martial art that is focused on the stand-up game takes years upon years of conditioning (bone condensing throughout the body) for it to even be effective. smacking someone with the back of your wrist wont hurt them, however, smacking someone with the back of your wrist after bone-condensing conditioning will knock them out. This commitment doesn't fly in a post-microwave world. Also, even if someone does go through with the conditioning, the UFC tacks on rules and gloves, making a lot of those arts ineffective yet again.

Also, I have done traditional boxing, muay thai, and BJJ so I have some experience to make that judgement call. I'm not trashing Japanese/Chinese martial arts. I think they are cool. Just stating facts.

>The real reason why you don't see many Chinese/Japanese martial arts in the UFC IMO (from someone who has done Japanese Kung Fu):

>Almost every Chinese and Japanese martial art that is focused on magic takes years upon years of bullshit for it to even be effective. smacking someone with magic wont hurt them, however, smacking someone with magic after magic conditioning still wont knock them out. This commitment doesn't fly in a post-enlightenment world. Also, even if someone does go through with the magic conditioning, the UFC tacks on rules and gloves (which block chi), making magic ineffective yet again.

Have you ever even watched MMA? Fighters strike with their wrists all the time.

I'll ignore the negative comment and respond to your post politely. There's quite a difference in the way that MMA fighters attack with their wrists compared to attacks, say, in the monkey form of kung fu. You actually attack with the ball of your wrist (your hand bent all the way forward like you just shot a free throw in basketball). See video below to fully understand what I'm talking about.

And bone condensing isn't "magic". I guess Muay Thai kicks are make-believe?

That's a really cute picture of fighting they're painting there. Some of this stuff can work with punches and doing it in a realistic fashion.

I took gymnastics style kung fu for like 8 years.
I can definitely fight, if I have a sword or knife.
But hand to hand not so much.
CMA you should take if you want to use a sword, or ninjutsu or kendo.
Otherwise waste of time

Pretty sure the Chinese just said fuck it and made gun powder and rockets. I could be wrong but that is rare.

I dunno about Japan. Heard they only came up with panties, fat people, and tentacles for their fighting displays.

THIS.

I carry one baseball and one softball bat around with me at all times: My right and left shins, respectively.

It hurt so fucking much, but thank you teenage self. If only flexibility lasted too.
