More proof you can't be a one round knockout striker and expect to win against a world class wrestler. Reminded me quite a bit of Shane Carwin vs Brock Lesnar. If we'd seen Johnson go against Jones, I bet Jones would've just been even more dominant. He wouldn't have wrestled him, but I bet we would've seen a lot of clinch work like in Cormier vs Jones to wear him down and kill his striking game. Looks like Bader is next up for a title shot, which will be the easiest fight in the division to call.

Cormier's post-fight interview was perfect.

Rumble was a college national champion wrestler though, his problem was that he totally gassed out. Work on the gas and next time could be a different story. Bader is a total walk for Cormier

And Roy Nelson is a BJJ black belt. When was the last time you saw Nelson submit a guy? Just because he wrestled, it doesn't make him a world class wrestler still (and especially not when compared to the credentials Daniel Cormier has).

The extent of Johnson's gassing was absurd. He legit looked like he was going to die of exhaustion between rounds and it seemed like he wanted to just give up right there.

If he worked on speed and cardio and moved down to 185 (which he definitely could) he could probably run that shit until he retires.

The idea of him moving DOWN to middleweight is absurd considering how gassed he got in the Jones fight, the fact that he used to fight at HEAVYWEIGHT, and he missed an Olympics due to a bad weight cut. You're basically suggesting DC do the reverse of what Rumble did (and he used to fight at WELTERWEIGHT) when ALL of Johnson's losses before Cormier were in those lighter divisions. There's no logic to it.

>If he worked on speed and cardio
Every body knows DC only fought at heavyweight because he doesn't/can't stick to proper nutrition or a healthy diet. Look at Anthony Johnson and try to figure out why he has had mixed success at 170. Just imagine the fucked weight cut he had to do. DC is entirely different, even as a 205 fighter he's kind of small. He could make 185 and maintain it without any harsh weight cuts and would be faster and have a better gastank. I seriously think if he lost the extra pounds he could maintain as a natural 185 and run that division for however long he wants.

>If he worked on speed and cardio
He would be a better light heavyweight. He was undefeated, not only in fights but in ROUNDS, before he got to Jon Jones and Rumble (who he easily beat after that first). There's a reason the successful guys at heavyweight DON'T barely make the weight limit. You can't have good speed and cardio and also be cutting massive amounts of weight. Brock Lesnar was the obvious exception because he's just a freak of nature. He only looks small because he's not cutting 50+ pounds like Jones and Rumble (and Jones is another freak of nature exception like Brock).

Also, USADA, in association with UFC's new drug testing procedures, is banning use of IVs for rehydrating. Almost all the champions aside from Werdum use IVs. Taking Cormier down yet another weight class would now be physically impossible, probably even if he DID get on some hardcore vegan/juice diet that makes him shit water. DC is close enough to 205 walking around that the ban might not hurt him too bad at 205, but 185 is absolutely out of the question.

I really hope that it leads to less extreme weight cutting, but it's probably going to lead to idiots giving themselves serious brain damage after fighting while severely dehydrated.

After July 1st when F/T random testing kicks in we'll see a lot more shitty fights too, no more Vitor Belfort wheelkick KOs or huge wars in the cage.

Yeah there will be a lot more shitty fights, but I think there are a lot that are clean too. It'll be funny to see if any of the lower ranked guys suddenly rise to the top of the rankings because everyone has to be clean now. I'm pretty sure Dan Henderson and Frankie Edgar clean, so they could jump up a bit. The IV thing will definitely affect Aldo too, I don't think he'll stay in featherweight after this fight win or lose.

From what I heard from Meltzer a while back, it's obviously impossible to know the exact numbers, but in general, the lower weight classes (probably featherweight and maybe lightweight and lower) have next to no steroid use because of the need to cut weight down. Welterweight and middleweight are kind of half-and-half, and lightheavyweight and heavyweight are rife with users. The biggest problem, though, are diuretic steroids which help with weight cuts, and those can be used by any weight class.

Also, just to clarify a bit, IVs are not banned BECAUSE of weight cutting. They're actually banned because USADA found out people in cycling were using IVs to cover up dope use and it was working. Numerous other things, like blood transfusions, are also banned for the same reason. Losing the ability to weight cut is a side effect of this policy.
