Okay my dudes. The third episode is like, a REALLY good copy of a Star Trek episode.

If anything you must admit that this show is going to set a bar that the real Star Trek show has to live up to next week. The plot is straight up stolen from an episode of Masters of Sex a couple years ago but it's perfect.

This shit has promise. The first episode sucked, the trailers sucked even more, but it's showing that it can at least be alright.

I think it's more that he knows Family Guy has become super hacky and nothing like it was when it was good, and he kinda wants to do something good again.

Like how Jenji Kohan was writing the umpteenth season of Orange is the New Black and then watched a documentary on netflix and ended up writing GLOW and it's fresh and good again.

I think Seth MacFarlane is desperately trying to get away from Family Guy, but he can't make anything nearly as profitable. But this is a real homage to Star Trek, they actually gave him what he wanted most in the world, fuck him right?
But if Star Trek: Discovery alienates enough fans, he might actually be able to pull it off. If not it'll only last a few seasons and at least it won't suffer the long tail of degradation Family Guy has.

I also think he put their best episode on the week of the ST premiere intentionally though.

Yeah, I liked the third episode, but it did just feel like a really good episode of Star Trek. The show has no identity of its own whatsoever.

I mean, if good Star Trek with Seth McFarlane occasioanlly making pointless 21st century pop culture references is what we get, I guess I'll take it. It's just weird that it's not even remotely trying to be a comedy at this point.

I was a little caught off guard that the court ordered the baby's sex changed and that was it. I expected the other parent to change their mind, or the crew to pull off some kind of trick, but nope, there was just nothing they could do and Bortus (who I thought for the whole episode was named Portis) just had to live with it. That the show actually pulls off the serious drama is even weirder than the lack of comedy.

>It's just weird that it's not even remotely trying to be a comedy at this point.
There are some jokes in the premise of the episode sometimes.
My favorite joke so far:
"You are fragile, are you aware of that"
"There's an anti-bullying law named after me. Yes, I'm aware of it."

Maybe you don't retain as much, but I'm working 40+ hours a week, I'd rather listen to books than talk radio. I work alone so there's no distractions and go through a couple books a week while doing people's yard work. If you are saying I can't call myself a huge reader because of audiobooks, I read plenty of physical books when in the comfort of my own home, was just mentioning that I'll be taking Dick through my earholes instead of my eyes. I have so much Dick i don't know where to start sucking away at all these options.

Nah you retain everything you would from reading and subvocalizing and reading exactly once.

This isn't what most people do though, and re-reading certainly helps on interesting parts, but the good audiobook performances have their own advantages.

I listened to an audiobook of "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" and "A Boy and His Dog" and both utterly captivated me. I can't imagine that actually reading either would do any more for me than the audiobooks did. Then again, they are mere short stories so that could be a factor.

They were both also read/performed by Harlan Ellison himself...

I laughed real hard at everything but the final 2 minutes with the Put It Down song. Even if I agree with their point, I'm still bored with Trump humor and, like last season, it wasn't funny. It also seemed to be pandering to the worst types of fans, that's the type of lame clip that reddik will be obsessed with for years to come. That first Cartman rap song was fucking hilarious though, I had to pause it because I was laughing too hard and didn't want to miss the next verse.

Again it felt meh like the first episode. Kinda okay but I'm not enjoying the end of serialization return to normalcy thing. The season long story arc really freshened this show up. Now it is like being stuck in season 10-20 limbo where it is all just barely okay.

I can't tell what they're doing with the story line though. Obviously we need to solve some things just in general and get them untangled but the focus of both episodes were about things and characters that happened in the sequential bit but didn't really solve or change much by the end. Such as Cartman's relationship and tweek and craig.

I can't tell if its serialization as in don't expect us to change anything or if it's slowly building to something.

Tbh I would discourage against watching in theater simply because this movie will damage your hearing. Maybe it's my theater and they don't know how to mix audio, but the movie is loud as fuck. Constant glass-breaking, constant nails-on-chalkboard, high-pitched wailing, explosions and screaming and banging.... It seriously started to do my head in, I had my fingers in my ears at some points, and I noticed my friends putting up their hoods and stuffing their ears underneath their hats.

It's nice to see on the big screen, but bring ear plugs I guess.

I'd say people who try and draw any consistent themes or meanings from Rick and Morty are fucking retarded. The show is an excuse for cultural references/ripoffs tied together by shallow nihilism and angst. If you think it's anything more than that you are not very smart.

In most of the episodes they usually purposefully contradict any message that may have been discernible, mostly because if they didn't it would turn out horrifically cliche, like an after-school special. Besides that it's pretty clear they put almost no effort or planning into any of the episodes. Meaning can't exist without purpose and Harmon and Roiland pretty much seem to only yell and jerk off at each other.

So, they released the trailer for the rebooted Tomb Raider, which seems to be inspired by the rebooted video game. Here's the trailer:

And here's the trailer for the video game:

Who did it better? ..... Why do they go out of their way to make video game movies suck ass? It's the tongue-in-cheek humor constantly trying to diddle it's way into your asshole. It's the hyperfocus on being "epic" and "badass". You can have those things, but they shouldn't be your selling point — that rebooted game was an emotional rollercoaster, it was watching the transformation from frail normie to hardened survivor. You don't see that in the trailer, Alicia Vikander's character seems as dull as a rock.

All I can think are the infamous words of Roger Ebert: "Video games cannot be art."

>All I can think are the infamous words of Roger Ebert: "Video games cannot be art."

Not disagreeing with any of your points about the Tomb Raider Movie, but that quote was a retarded statement when he made it and it still is today. Just because Hollywood has a predilection for shitting out hastily made bullshit based on recognizable properties doesn't mean the idea of making a good adaptation is inherent impossible. It's like saying chocolate can never be good after you never eaten anything but that imitation Hershey coco-butter shit your whole life.

And that's just talking about video game to movie adaptations. Video games in their natural form are fucking art. Most things crafted by humans are fucking art (especially an immersive experience that usually involves scripted choreography, illustration, and narrative is art, even if you think it's lowbrow. Lowbrow art is still art) and it will always only be pretentious fucking assholes who think they have some kind of authority to not merely diagnose something as poorly made or unenjoyable to them personally, but to go all the way and say a fucking medium, genre, or style is invalid. What a close minded and cancerous attitude for a reviewer to have

There are video game movies I enjoy. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Super Maro Brothers — I enjoyed them.

But none of them were "great", appreciated by audience and critics alike. It's pretty goddamn unfortunate because I think that there are some awesome video game stories out there that would become film classics, and they end up never happening or getting the worst treatment from a bunch or European nobodies.

I really want them to make a Bioshock movie. Dark Souls would be some avant-garde shut. Metro 2033 is another that could be really good.

But what I really want is a Fallout tv show. With Game of Thrones ending, HBO needs another crowd pleaser and Fallout, with it's violence, humor, and strong focus on characters, would perfectly fill the void. The only thing is it'd probably end up being far more expensive than GoT with the amount of CGI and special effects that would be needed to bring that world to life.

A young mother tries to find out what's causing her to have violent tendencies.

Did anyone else watch this last night?[

I thought it was pretty good. I'm surprised that USA was able to show as much as they did with the sex and violence. The stab scene was really good looking and really graphic.

I came away liking it. It is nowhere on the level of True Detective, but I couldn't help feel that was the vibe they were going for.

I loved the scene where the detective compliments on the brown bystander's fitness and asks him afterwards why didn't he stop a frail woman.

Neither sex nor the stab scene were graphic at all lol.

Well that was a interesting show. Also I wished we knew more about the detective's story and past but I think it's actually better to leave it ambiguous.

>Thank you.
Fucking lol.
