Hi /mtv/,
it's the first time i ask you something but i'm bothered by the thought of missing something great. I recently watched vikings ep. 1-8 (not the last one, because i swore not to watch it without my friend, but he's on vacation) and quite love it. Since we read Goethe's Faust part one in school right now, i noticed one specific type of characters in media that were really appealing to me. In vikings it's Floki, a boat builder, who happens to be a fool, a devil or whatever you want to call it. The same type of character is Mephisto from Faust and to be a little bit more /mtv/ related, it's Wilfred from the us version. My question is basically whether you, the people who gave me the gift of a lot of awesome series, can point me to other such interesting characters in different media.

I just never see any threads about movies on here. It's all about shows. I don't much like them, and I want more movies to download. I remember seeing a picture that was like "99 mindfuck movies" or something of that nature. I don't want those necessarily, but any general movie with good cinematography, such as STALKER, Martyrs, Dark City, I don't know. I just want some good, non comedy/action/ sci-fantasy movies..

i would list more , but my movie folder is on my desktop and I am currently not on it. i will tomorrow, though, so i will actually contrubut

What do you think about an American remake of Doctor Who? Could it be *that* bad? Could it be good? Is there any reason to do it? They redid Torchwood, and that was alright. So, what say ye on the matter?

Good point. The pilot for a US IT Crowd was rubbish, and I quite like Joel McHale and Rocky Carroll. The same can be said for The Inbetweeners, Skins, The Office, Being Human, Top Gear, and many more. Why is it done? It's easier to knock-off than it is to be original, and making money in an easy way is a much sought after American ideal. :(

My main gripe with the latest season of DW is the pacing and how much content they tried to fit into a single episode. It felt like I was watching a 45 minute montage of a longer version on a couple of them. Also the whole Clara storyline is by far the worst of the DW reboot.

That's not to say it can't be done successfully, look at The Office and to a lesser extent Wilfred. But at this stage those are the exceptions to the rule, and by no means a decent excuse to remake everything that is successful in other countries.

I saw the thread there about an American Doctor Who remake, and thought about how it sucks that, as an American, most cable providers don't offer any British television channels or show other than BBC America, which isn't a basic channel by any means either. This means that most of us miss out on a bunch of great original series from the UK, and also leads us to believe that shows like The Office are originally American when obviously they are not.

So, help me and my fellow Americans broaden our horizons by posting the best of British television in this thread!

I'll start off by saying again that somebody mentioned Peep Show in the BWW thread so I thought I'd give it a shot, and wow am I glad that I did. It's absolutely fantastic. I know about Doctor Who and Top Gear as well, but I'm sure there are many more that I should be looking into.

I thought the movie was great. The most fun iv had at the theater in years. People laughing, screaming and squirming lol so much fun. When people complain that its not the like originals, there kind of missing the point. Its actually going for the tone of the first one. Evil Dead 1 wasn't supposed to be funny, they started adding camp in the second one because people actually thought 1 was hilariously bad (I don't mind it). Sam Rami and Bruce Campbell were involved in this project.

Evil dead comparisons aside I thought this had one of the best "final girl" scene in years. Its was super intense IMO, the final kill looks like a metal album lol.

yeah, sorry, should have replied to this earlier.

as far as remakes go, it's a very good remake. there is black humor in it (pic related) but it's not played the way it is in ED2. the gore factor definitely lives up to the original. the performances were all good although the writing of the movie is also on par with the original; meaning not great.

definitely worth seeing if you're a fan of the original or not. i think it does a good job of recreating the dread and nightmare-feel of the original.

Thank you very much for your input. Heard good things about Unforgiven, still have yet to see it. I own The Assassination of Jesse James and the other two Sergio Leone movies you mentioned. By all means I DO count There Will Be Blood which when you get into the Western movies about rags-to-riches you also remind me the sub-genres of Western like No Country For Old Men, which is just one of many of course. Thought I would include this too (copypasta from Wiki)
The Seven Western Plots:
  1. The Union Pacific story. The plot concerns construction of a railroad, a telegraph line, or some other type of modern technology or transportation. Wagon train stories probably fall into this category.
    2. The ranch story. The plot concerns threats to the ranch from rustlers or large landowners attempting to force out the proper owners.
    3. The empire story. The plot might involve building up a ranch empire or an oil empire from scratch, a classic rags-to-riches plot.
    4. The revenge story. The plot often involves an elaborate chase and pursuit, but it may also include elements of the classic mystery story.
    5. The cavalry and Indian story. The plot revolves around taming the wilderness for white settlers.
    6. The outlaw story. The outlaw gangs dominate the action.
    7. The marshal story. The lawman and his challenges drive the plot.

I have all of George Carlin's, and I just got all of Dylan Moran's as well(that was inspired by a Black Books binge yesterday evening). So I could use a few more suggestions, personal favorites, etc. Thanks in advance!

If you have Netflix watch the Comedians of Comedy that includes 15 or so comedians like Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, Brian Posehn, David Cross, Jon Benjamin, Eugene Mirman (Gene on Bob's Burgers, has hilarious stand-up) etc.
As for recent and solo I've enjoyed Louis C.K., Hannibal Burress, Tom Green, Joe Rogan and Daniel Tosh who has decent stand-up that is not like his shitty TV show. Lots of talent to name but as we know lots of jokes get recycled...

New Anger Management. Selma Blair has definitely gotten more attractive over the years.
Doctor Who s25e04pt1&2: The Greatest Show In The Galaxy. Glad Doctor Who got fucking amazing again for it's final Doctor. This episode was no exception, one of the best episodes I've ever seen. Great cast of side characters, goofy villains everywhere. Stoked to see the last half of this. Felt on par with new Who episodes, f you're curious about original Who, maybe check this episode out.
Star Trek TNG s02e20: The Emissary. Damn, Klingons are crazy when their horny.
Mushishi ep24: The Journey To The Feild Of Fire. Well, here I go. Starting the final 3 episodes of the greatest show I've seen in a good while... Well, the episode was pretty good, but not as good as most others. Hope the final 2 are classics. Even if they aren't, this still was an amazing show.
The Office s08e01: The List. Looks like Andy is the new manager.... laaame.
Teen Wolf season 1 finale! Good finale, enjoyed the first season, time to marathon the 2nd before season 3 starts this summer.
Arrested Development s01e19: Best Man For The Gob. Funny show.
Millennium s02e20: Somehow Satan Got Behind Me. What in the fuck? Weeeird ass episode. Has anyone seen this, where 4 elderly demons drink coffee at a shop and chat about who they've damned lately, and it turns out they've all met the series protagonist?
Star Trek TNG s02e21: Peak Performance. Fun episode. Some sweet war games and a fun interruption from the Ferengi at the end.
Mushishi ep 25: Eye Of Fortune, Eye Of Misfortune. Damn, it may be the second to last episode, but they clearly aren't running out of good ideas. Amazing, trippy episode. Love it. Going to miss this show. Was nice while it lasted.
Star Trek TNG Season 2 Finale: Shades Of Grey. What a shitty season finale. No plot, just a flashback tribute to good ol' Number One, Lieutenant Riker. Waste if an episode. Literally the worst episode of any Star Trek I have seen yet.

Just finished catching up with Hannibal becaause of this thread.

>>235603
> i wonder if Hannibal found a way to slip some human by-product into Freddie's vegetarian salad lol.

I seriously doubt that there's some Nicholas in the lotus root as your pic implies. Lotus root has a pretty unique texture that you're not gonna duplicate with some slices of breast meat. I take that more as Lecter's overarching design concept for the dinner.
It wouldn't surprise me if there was some special ingredient in the dressing, though.

As far as the totem pole goes, I really cringed at that. The way this show is portraying serial killers as body horror artists has developed to the point of being ridiculous, downright torture porn and has become completely formulaic by now, and being formulaic is a problem of the show in general. "Oh look, we've got ten more minutes left, time to expose the killer of the week who conveniently has a thematic tie to what we want to tell you about the psychology of the main characters."
Then there's the whole inflation of shock effect in the franchise. Back when Silence of the Lambs came out, it was enough to show a sophisticated, cultured cannibal who enjoyed making fine cuisine out of people, now he has to serve a human dinner to unwitting people every week to keep the audience entertained, and it looks more and more like a cooking show or kitchen hardware commercial. It just wears off.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed to watch it a lot, it easily beats the average Hollywood prequel coming out nowadays and I like the less face-mask-bitey-wild animal direction they're taking Hannibal's character in, it makes perfect sense for him to be played the way he is prior to his exposure as a killer.
I just wish they'd focus more on character development and Lecter's attempts to mindfuck everybody and less on the psycho of the week format and superficial gore.
