Court Movies/Legal Drama by Skandar Keynes - Wed, 21 Feb 2018 00:11:31 EST ID:vhoDx6ZL No.394533 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Just watched, and thoroughly enjoyed Marshall. One of the few biopics that feels like it could be part of a running series since a lot of Thurgood Marshall cases are ripe for dramatization. Anyway, now I have a hankering for more court movies or legal dramas. Doesn't have to be drama exclusively, though. I'm mostly looking for good movies, but I wouldn't say no to some good series recommendations like The People v. O. J. Simpson too. Although I should stress that I'm not really interested in garbage-tier network filler like Law and Order.

I've already seen 12 Angry Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Few Good Men, Philadelphia, Find Me Guilty, and My Cousin Vinny.

I mean its not exactly a "law movie" but Liar, Liar is centered around a court case.
I guess a more applicable movie would be Primal Fear with Richard Gere and Edward Norton. Fantastic movie

Primal Fear was going to be one of my recs. One of Norton's best performances. I also heard Kramer V Kramer is good but I haven't seen it so can't recommend.

The ultimate court room drama is Judgement at Nuremberg. It dramitizes the best moments of the actual Nuremberg trials.
Great cross examination and questioning that really happened.

I think Magneto would eventually say something along the lines of "Jews and blacks are treated the same" which would make Killmonger annoyed and point out how much better Jews in the US are generally treated but then when he tried to point it out, Magneto is a holocaust survivor and it would make the whole thing really awkward and they'd just not want to hang out so much any more.

The only villain I can think of with no redeeming qualities or sympathetic back story is Megatron. All comic book villains were either good at one point or had some gay tragedy happen to make them bad. I always liked the joker because he seemed like a true sociopath. DC seems to have more creative villains.

I just looked up Thanos and Megatrons back story. They both have sympathetic backstories even though they are hardly ever mentioned. Thanos it says was almost murdered by his mother for not looking like her and in his childhood years was a pacifist. He then became obsessed with death as a emo teenager. Megatron was a slave or some shit and then became a freedom fighter.

So I guess the Joker is the only villain who is 100% evil and is a true sociopath. I looked up his backstory too and he was originally created with none. They tried to add different versions of his origin story later but none of them are really accepted. When I think of the Joker I think of Charlie Manson... And that is a truly scary villain.

If anyone goes to see Annihilation this weekend, please let me know how it is. Most of the reviews I've seen have been very positive, but the one that's got me most excited said it's fuckin' nuts - trippy to the point that a lot of people are going to leave the theater just scratching their heads.

Catch me up. I’ve only watched these last few episodes.
What are your thoughts on the series compared to dragon ball, & DBZ?
I always figured there were aspects based upon spiritual concepts of western cultures like chakras and auric fields but it seems now they’ve fully adopted that idea. Though I’m not a fan of the new-school I do approve of that feature.

>I didn't know JJ was back for 9. Good, 8 sucked a bag of balls.
And that was a terrible thing for the entire franchise. Because now JJ is back.
They tried to keep the franchise from getting stale by bringing in some writer/director but now they can't let that happen twice in a row without damaging the momentum of the series and turning their gargantuan LucasFilm purchase into a worthless item.

So they bring JJ back. Keep the director safe, keep the script safe, keep the whole movie safe and mediocre just like a Marvel movie.

Oh please. When 7 came out, all anyone on the internet ever did was talk shit about how awful it was and how it was the worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. Especially here. Then 8 came out and all the trendy kids decided THAT movie was the worst thing ever because *gasp* it was different to 7, which they now tout as the greatest Star Wars film of all time. You people are so goddamn fickle it makes my head spin.

7 was okay, but just a rehash of 4. 8 was fantastic, one of the best Star Wars films out there. It breathed life into the franchise by veering off the beaten track a bit. Kylo Rens philosophy regarding the force is really interesting, for once we have someone who realizes that the light and dark side, Jedi vs Sith bullshit is exactly that and wants to actually BRING BALANCE to the Force. Yin and Yang. Im excited to see where that goes. Plus, the scenes on the planet crawling with war profiteers was amazing, I'd love to see more of that side of the Star Wars universe explored. The gritty, seedy, futuristic cities that are so similar to NYC in the 1970s and the Han Solo, Boba Fett type characters are my favorite aspects of the franchise and I love that they got some spotlight. Seeing how life in this universe, outside of the goddamn wars and militaries and Jedi/Sith orders is something I've always wanted more of. Not to mention how great a send off Luke got, and he's come full circle, just as Obi-Wan had decades ago. But not before learning one more lesson.

But at the end of the day, no one despises Star Wars more than Star Wars fans, so there's literally nothing the filmmakers could have done. The shitlords would have their aspie meltdown regardless. In 10 years this movie will be touted as one of the franchise's best.

And tbh a huge problem with the current series of films is that there is a COLOSSAL amount of backstory and context that you can ONLY find in the current Star Wars comics being published by Marvel, which many people don't even know exist. SO MANY of the "plotholes" and questions people have about this era of the Star Wars universe are explained in detail there and they make things SO MUCH MORE CLEAR.

>everyone was all "HURR FUCK JJ THIS MOVIE WILL BE ALL LENS FLRE AND NO SUBSTANCE", then it introduced amazing characters and had a fun plot
That's just the thing. JJ wasn't allowed to create his own look for Star Wars. And he almost certainly didn't want to. Star Wars always has a classic look that still fits in the modern era and nothing needed to be changed about that.

That's one of the hundreds of mistakes Lucas made in the prequels, changing the look far too much. It's also why so many fans hate the Special Editions. The special editions clean up all of the special effects REALLY nicely, especially in the first Star Wars. Then they throw a bunch of CGI trash into the MIDDLE AND FOREGROUND instead of the background where they'd be subtle and passable.

Current CGI is great in the middle ground but not what Lucas was working with. And as far as foreground CGI, we have two main examples. The twin pillars by which modern CGI stands or falls: Iron Man's suit, and Superman's upper lip. Perfection, and disgrace.

General film nerds though. I feel like Star Wars nerds ate that shit up.
Film nerds view it as a paint-by-numbers pseudo reboot, and they have a very good point.
Star Wars fans generally like the new characters and forgive them being in the EXACT SAME STORY. Plus it's positively loaded up to the brim of acceptable fan service and they sort of go into a trance. I was in a Carrie Fisher trance, because she was and will forever be a drugged up bipolar goddess.

I loved all of those movies, but don't really remember anything about the scores. You should post some standout tracks.

Rick Steves is a strong advocate for weed. He's the right answer for this site.

Not easier, cheaper. I wish I could go to Athens on a whim and see the Acropolis, but until I can save up enough money for that, I'll watch a travel show about it.

So there was a French or Itallian animated movie about a war, the main character was a dude with a blonde hair who's later getting his eyes burned, there's also a sexy lady alongside him, there's a scene where the sexy lady is taking a shower while the blonde dude with the burned eyes is looking after her, then some drunk sneaky asshole commes around just to see the naked body of that sexy lady, then the blonde dude kicks that assholes ass.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English
