I need some more shows that will make me laugh and cry. BoJack Horseman and Shameless are the top two for me right now, but I'm caught up on the former and nearly there on the latter.

Rick & Morty and Archer come close but both lean too far in the direction of comedy and bring the feels too rarely. Somewhere between 60/40 and 50/50 in terms of comedy and seriousness is perfect.

The thing is, I don't so much like shows where everything is hopeless and depressing and nothing good ever happens as those where good and bad things can both happen, and while shit gets dark, sometimes there are beautiful, wonderful, happy moments where people surprise you. That kind of bleak-with-a-dash-of-happy vibe in BH hits me just right and I can't wait for season 4. But in the meantime, what else should I watch?

Just started The Mick. Not yet sure if fully a comedy or if it'll have a somewhat even mix. Pic related as I'll probably keep watching anyway because I have a weird crush on every character Kaitlin Olson plays.

Friends from College is on Netflix and has Key from Key and Peele. It's a bit lame but it's about 40 year olds being juvenile and it grows on you. No crying but drama

Yeah, for OP it's gonna depend on the balance he wants. Idk anything that does both as well as Bojack Horseman. Weirdly enough Scrubs comes to mind, lol. But Scrubs' comedy and drama are both more trite than Bojack.

Anyhow OP I have similar tastes to you and I'd say that Better Call Saul, while chiefly a drama, is also plenty funny. Lady Dynamite (another Netflix original) doesn't do the sadness with as much of a punch as Bojack but it is still a nice blend of comedy and pathos. As much as everything is played for laughs there's still scenes where she's haggard and in a treatment facility for bipolar disorder and you're just like "Oh..."

Still, as far as I've seen there isn't much competition for your top 2 as far as shows that make you laugh then sink your heart into your gut go.

Lady Dynamite was so fucking great. I wonder if we're ever going to get that second season.

On topic, there's a lot of stuff on the market these days as pretty much every recent comedy mixes in some drama, and vice versa: Master of None Lilyhammer, Louie, Fargo, Transparent, Veep, Better Call Saul, Orange is the New Black, Over the Garden Wall, F is for Family, etc. There's also those classic episodes of shows like The Simpsons or Futurama that you can check out like Jurassic Bark, Luck of the Fryrish, And Maggie Makes Three, Lisa's Substitute, Mother Simpson, etc.

ITT Favorite TV/Movie Characters and why

They can be just a particularly interesting, compelling or unique character.

Right now I'm gonna say John Locke. He's such a strange and dynamic character. He goes from being a pushover with daddy issues to being a prophet-like savior. Not to mention a general badass.
He was stuck in his regular boring, mundane, and unfulfilling life but when thrust into an insane predicament he busts out all the skills he's been honing and a fortitude that was trapped down inside him, suppressed by his daily life. A lot of people can relate and look up to that.

>The book established that a desperate Stannis is willing to do pretty much anything when he used foreign sorcery to murder his own brother.

Stannis gave zero fucks about Renly to begin with, and kinslaying ain't shit when that kin is trying to usurp the throne of THE RIGHTFUL KING OF WESTEROS.

Not to mention the fact that Mel and Shireen are hundreds of miles away at the wall, and Stannis has already made the decision to force march his army into a snowstorm despite knowing the enormous costs it would entail.

His people are already resorting to cannibalism, and the motherfucker is just digging holes in the ice.

oh also, he wasn't desperate at all when he did that. They were about to go to war with Renly and she's just like "burn some worms and your brother will die" and Stannis is like "fuck it"
Not desperation at all.
It's funny that plebians actually judge the books based on the show, and judge the books unworthy when they watch the show so religiously. The show is pretty garbage tier compared to the books. The show hasn't really written a single interesting line of dialogue. Basically every good line of dialgoue is directly from the books and there hasn't been any memorable dialogue in the last two seasons.

There's this old 70s or 80s movie I think it's about a serial killer possibly and the only scene I can remember is during a meal at a table where the male character with dark hair fakes enjoying the food but secretly hates it.

I think it was used for some promotion of a tv channel a while back possibly...

Welcome to the Camp Firewood Ten Year Reunion! From David Wain and Michael Showalter, the masterminds who brought to life the original 2001 cult classic film and the 2015 acclaimed prequel series, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later is the hilarious new eight-part limited series starring the original cast, plus an all-star lineup of new cast members.

The series premieres August 4 on Netflix

Nah I get that Coop is the stereotypical dork character in this, but even in the original the scenes that involved his character were still funny as fuck. In the prequel series everything involving Coop was terrible and not funny because Showalter inexplicably gained like 80 lbs and acted like he was on Ambien.

Started watching it and I'm about half way through and and it's pretty solid and even Showalter isn't as bad as he was in the prequel series he's still a fat pussy though. Not bad at all honestly. Also liking that Bradley Cooper was replaced with Adam Scott. I assumed they'd be writing his character out of the show but this is probably the best recast since Scott has so much chemistry with this crew.

So I've been going looking at some shows that I felt like I missed, and that were a big hit. I'm gonna finish my watch through of LOST, which I've been really enjoying. WE HAVE TO GO BACK
Anyways, I'm looking at possibly checking out Mad Men next. I know it has received some acclaim with critics at least. What do you guys that watched it think about it and what do you guys rate it?
Jackie Brown - Tue, 08 Aug 2017 18:24:56 EST ID:95DHx0t/ No.386519 Ignore Report Quick Reply
I rank it 10/10 on par with Sopranos and The Wire, but I was also a chronic drunk back when this show was airing so the characters were all my drinking buddies (every single character is an alchoholic). The biggest complaints people have against it is a very slow pace in terms of plot. But I was never watching for the plot, it was more Drunk Slice Of Life. After a fast paced show like LOST, Mad Men might be jarring.
Also, the directing is on par with Kubric. If you're a cinephile, you'll be gushing over almost every scene and all the cool directing techniques they try.

If you haven't seen Fringe, that has a lot of the LOST creative team, I'd highly recommend it. The hero is an LSD addicted mad scientist who saves the world from trippy twilight zone style shenanigans.
