Fuck the oscars are so lame. I mean all reality shows are lame but I used to think that the academy awards were special for some reason. Mainly because we are told it's special. It's not. Fuck all this shit.

No difference between these awards and some youtuber giving a movie FIVE STARS BRUH

I don't get how people could be pissed about this. It's a Del Toro movie about a lady fucking the creature from the Black Lagoon. That's about as far away from traditional "Oscar bait" as I can imagine. That's a win in my books.

I don't think so. Abe Sapien's backstory doesn't fit. I don't remember the details but I looked into it more after I watched The Shape of Water and it didn't seem to line up with the backstory. I think the timeline is off. Maybe a distant cousin of Abe's. I could be totally wrong though, I didn't read the comics and I don't have the time to read this: http://hellboy.wikia.com/wiki/Abraham_Sapien

There's a free MOOC that just started called Hong Kong Cinema Through a Global Lens. As always you get out what you put in, but here's the elevator pitch:

>During your weeks with us you'll see demonstrations of martial arts choreography, participate in close analysis of film techniques, investigate Hong Kong global stardom, uncover the reasons for the worldwide appeal of genres such as the kung fu film, and nurture a comparative and critical understanding of issues of gender, race, migration.

https://www.edx.org/course/hong-kong-cinema-through-global-lens-hkux-hku06-1x-1

If you're not up for academic wankery and just want some solid HK films, here's the list for the course:

>Week 1 – any Jackie Chan film (optional)
>Week 2 – any Bruce Lee film (optional), but we suggest Fist of Fury / The Chinese Connection (dir. Lo Wei, 1972), or Enter the Dragon, (dir. Robert Clouse, 1973)
>Week 3 – An Autumn's Tale (dir. Mabel Cheung, 1987)
>Week 4 – The Killer (dir. John Woo, 1989)
>Week 5 – Infernal Affairs (dir. Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, 2002)
>Week 6 – In the Mood for Love (dir. Wong Kar Wai, 2000)

The mandarin dub is so much worse. Sound effects aren't as good, reactions are worse.
Nothing can top the English dub of Dark for badness though. Netflix is somehow just as bad at dubbing now than china was in 1978.

Starting from top left, I have Lifeforce! from the guy who directed the Texas Chainsaw Massacre we have a naked chick and bad special effects and horrible extra work for 90 percent of the movie. But also people being stabbed by swords! it's terrible but must be witnessed. Next is Repo Man, which if you haven't seen I feel sorry for you. Top right is Cabin Fever, a movie that perfectly knew what it was doing and executed it superbly. Next row, left side is Fitzcarraldo which shows anything is possible, middle is Shocker which is just genius levels of schlock, mid right is Night of Demons, one of the best worst movies. Bottom left is Return of the Living Dead, essential horror comedy, bottom central is The Fifth Element, bottom right is Twins of Evil because of their...assets

Many believe the US government covered up stuff

Open your minds to the truth people
>if you disagree, you are part of the conspiracy, shun the non-believers

Aliens caused the Bubonic Plague, AIDS, and Hanta Virus.
The Obama administration has categorically denied the existence of an alien cover-up. Accordingly, THE ONLY possible explanation for this denial is that such a cover-up exists!
Human-alien hybrids walk among us and are divided into various species named by color (such as "the greys" and "the reds."). The ones with reptilian skin are called "Reptiloids." There is also one species of hybrid that looks very human-like and means no harm to us.
Alien bodies are buried in secret bunkers under the Vatican in Rome, and the Catholic Church has been instrumental in covering up alien activity for centuries.
A retired air force colonel was given a secret message in binary code (a series of 0s and 1s) after he touched a spaceship in the woods in England one night while on patrol. Subsequently, a 25 year-old code-cracker fueled by Mountain Dew, Doritos, and Clearasil figured out that an exploration of humanity (either from the future or from outer space) is currently underway.
Two guys wearing black suits and hats walked into a hotel in Niagara Falls in the 1980s and were captured on closed circuit TV. The so-called "men in black" were obviously aliens (as opposed to Christian missionaries). It's THE ONLY possible explanation!
Los Angeles is actually a UFO portal.
The Nazis were in cahoots with aliens during WWII and relied on them for some of their sinister technology.
The technological might of the American military was co-opted from aliens. It's THE ONLY possible explanation for advances in weapons and airplane technology over the past fifty years.
Alien bodies--and live aliens that need human body parts to survive--are currently housed in a refrigerator/underground secret laboratory on a base in New Mexico.
Aliens have implanted parasites into the skin of humans and impregnated them for purposes of biological experimentation.

Movies for 9 to 10 year old Chinese kids by Bran Stark - Sun, 25 Feb 2018 12:03:20 EST ID:YaSJxHfp No.394679 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Hey guys, around about mid last year I moved out to China to work as an English teacher and to pick up some Chinese for myself. I work in a large private primary school and most of my classes are grade 4 meaning that the kids are aged from about 9 - 10.

If the Children are well behaved then for the last 10 minutes on a Thursday and Friday we let them watch a movie.

So far I've just borrowed movies from the other teachers and I've shown them Lego Batman, Boss Baby, and Minions.
Now all of these are fairly entertaining movies and the kids fucking LOVED them, but really they are kinda shit...
Do you have any suggestions on any properly decent movies I could put on for my students? A co-worker of mine has shown slightly older kids 'hook' and I really like the idea of that. Another co-worker put on Coraline and that seemed like a good idea. Films with a bit more of a creative vision behind them than just really really dumb humour like MInions.

Now I know that I'm going to get a lot of responses here for some HILARIOUSLY inappropriate movies, like guro movies or Tiananmen Square documentaries, so go ahead and post those suggestions if you really need to get that out of your system.

Really though I am just looking for some suggestions for what you might have liked to have seen when you were a kid. Or generally just interesting kids movies.

Cheers for the suggestions!

Disney is doing its best to pay tribute to EU fans, so honestly they should stop being such bitchbabies. They even let Timothy Zahn write a book reintroducing his classic EU character Thrawn into the Disney canon line. What more do these fuckers want? Just watched, and thoroughly enjoyed Marshall. One of the few biopics that feels like it could be part of a running series since a lot of Thurgood Marshall cases are ripe for dramatization. Anyway, now I have a hankering for more court movies or legal dramas. Doesn't have to be drama exclusively, though. I'm mostly looking for good movies, but I wouldn't say no to some good series recommendations like The People v. O. J. Simpson too. Although I should stress that I'm not really interested in garbage-tier network filler like Law and Order.

I've already seen 12 Angry Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Few Good Men, Philadelphia, Find Me Guilty, and My Cousin Vinny.

Primal Fear was going to be one of my recs. One of Norton's best performances. I also heard Kramer V Kramer is good but I haven't seen it so can't recommend.

The ultimate court room drama is Judgement at Nuremberg. It dramitizes the best moments of the actual Nuremberg trials.

>everyone was all "HURR FUCK JJ THIS MOVIE WILL BE ALL LENS FLRE AND NO SUBSTANCE", then it introduced amazing characters and had a fun plot
That's just the thing. JJ wasn't allowed to create his own look for Star Wars. And he almost certainly didn't want to. Star Wars always has a classic look that still fits in the modern era and nothing needed to be changed about that.

That's one of the hundreds of mistakes Lucas made in the prequels, changing the look far too much. It's also why so many fans hate the Special Editions. The special editions clean up all of the special effects REALLY nicely, especially in the first Star Wars. Then they throw a bunch of CGI trash into the MIDDLE AND FOREGROUND instead of the background where they'd be subtle and passable.

Current CGI is great in the middle ground but not what Lucas was working with. And as far as foreground CGI, we have two main examples. The twin pillars by which modern CGI stands or falls: Iron Man's suit, and Superman's upper lip. Perfection, and disgrace.

General film nerds though. I feel like Star Wars nerds ate that shit up.
Film nerds view it as a paint-by-numbers pseudo reboot, and they have a very good point.
Star Wars fans generally like the new characters and forgive them being in the EXACT SAME STORY. Plus it's positively loaded up to the brim of acceptable fan service and they sort of go into a trance. I was in a Carrie Fisher trance, because she was and will forever be a drugged up bipolar goddess.

Melancholia is pretty great for visuals.
Enter the void? I mean, that film is eye-candy.
Park chan wook's films. Specially his last film, The Handmaiden. Photography on that film is astounding.

Death in Paradise looks great on my friend's projector. Such sunny vibrant colors.

Years ago lurking this board I saw a reccomendation thread for anime films. I watched th is one with what I thought was an older guy who meets a younger girl she may have been a child. There were a lot of shots of them by a rocky seashore and I'm pretty sure it was downright depressing. Hope I'm not cluttering this board. But my nostalgia for this thing is utterly gut-renching. Any old heads care to take a shot ?

Usually they use the NOT blood-related excuse. So it may be half-sister by remarriage.
