Anyone been to see it yet? Thoughts?
The product placement bothered me more than it should have, and what kind of jackass just walks onto a previously unknown planet without at least an air filter or some shit?
Overall, enjoyable mindless violence but that's about it. Enjoyed it more than Prometheus, anyway.

I watched it and it's actually not bad. No Louie of course but it gets better by the end especially its final season.

Yeah I watched the first two episodes and they were pretty funny and I liked the choice of filming the first episode in black and white. I suppose it's a good contrast of Dev and Sarah with the white Italians from what I noticed. That second episode though was hilarious and the reveal of Arnold's ex looking just like him was great. It was a fun episode with Dev and Arnold hanging out and stuff.

I finished the rest of the season. I gotta say that it was absolutely fantastic and no doubt, I'd put this show in my top five for this year already. I think what really stuck out to me the most is how Aziz portrays Dev as not just being a fun-loving and outgoing guy but also one with emotional depth and understanding especially in his scenes with Francesca. Man those were really riveting to watch to see them together. It did remind me quite a bit of Louie season 4 but it wasn't as dark but holy shit it was shot fantastically and there's quite a bit of Italian influence in this season and it works. I think my favorite episodes of the season, which it's really hard to do since they were so good, were First Date, Thanksgiving, and New York, I Love You. I did find that the penultimate episode would have worked better as the season finale than the one we got though the twist of Francesca deciding to stay in New York was a nice surprise.

>this sounds like an extraordinarily boring and masturbatory premise.
Naa because like, this is what happens to comedians. But Louie did it well. Obviously most comedians are sort of rockstar types (as in, life on tour, lots of parties, people willing to give them free drugs because of their status) so it makes sense that it's a common theme for them to go through this whole midlife crisis thing and make lots of jokes about how their life is different because of kids.

But yeah straight up I've just watched the first episode there and I find it's really not good enough to get away with it.
Like I said, Louie was equally as "masturbatory" but he's definitely talented enough to make it work, I've never seen Aziz in anything before this but so far all I've seen is terrible acting and jokes that aren't very funny.

Only watched it because it came highly recommended by a friend, but he's also really into circlejerk and likes some terrible music, so I guess I was right to feel a bit skeptical. At the same time he also likes AMAZING music so maybe I'll give another few episodes of this a go since someone else said it takes until ep 3 to kick in.

Weird to see Eric in stuff though, it's odd to see him playing a somewhat "straight" character, as in, you can't really say that his performance is 100% jokes like every single one of his appearances in awesome show was.

Scream Queens' second season graduates from the college campus and into a hospital with a haunted past, as a new and terrifyingly funny mystery begins. Each episode will delve deep into the fascinating and bizarre medical cases under observation at the hospital, while using the building’s sordid history as the springboard for the series’ overarching mystery.

Ok what the fuck /mtv? Came here to find a thread about it since it has a lot of potential. In my eyes at least.
Saw the first episode last night and maybe I was just high of my tits and in the right mood but it was pretty great. I just love when the protagonist is a ... well, bastard could be the right word. Doesn't give a shit you know.
And we know that Hardy is superb in those roles, cold and calculated.

Anyway, go watch if and come back here to discuss some shit.

text from my lockd thread;

Let's talk about this show. I kinda like it.

The setting is what draws me in, post Revolutionary War England with the season ending I think the show is probably going to go to Africa too if it airs for more than 3 seasons.

Delaney's character as a British man born to a Native American mother who apparently learned African shamanic secrets alongside being trained as a mercenary is an interesting mix of traits. Magic and insanity as focal plot points set in the 1800s is cool like Bloodborne cool without the excess of monsters. Delaney is a sort of underworld crime boss driven by esoteric motives, versed in magic that is portrayed subtle enough to be real and less tied to location and cult by having two separate continents influencing it (the Native American/African influences).

The other characters seem a bit more disposable than Hardy's and perhaps that is due to him being the creator of the show and taking some egotistical liberties, none of them have that wild evil portrayed in Delaney except the visions where he sees his mother (who will likely not be a present tense character at any point and has had zero dialogue). Not even the head of the East Indian Company who comes off as deeply evil and twisted, the main antagonists just seem to be your garden-variety tricky assholes.

Anyway, good show, hope it makes it to season 2.

I recently went to an event where 'The day of the dead' was projected on a huge-ass screen and had a blast. It was actually a smart, somewhat scary horror film. The effects were amazingly well done (though a couple could be on the ridicoulous end of the spectrum), and the photography was astounding. So I've decided to check out some more oldish horror films.

I'm looking for stuff ranging from late '70s to early '90

Some suggestions:
Videodrome (anything by Cronemberg for all that matters)
The day of the dead by Romero
Suspiria by Dario Argento
The Shining by Kubrick
The Thing by Carpenter

I'm about to smoke a joint and check out Alien (1979)

Oddly enough, it's probably the only Tarantino film I'd give a perfect score, but it's not my favorite. Reservoir dogs takes that and I'd probably give Reservoir Dogs a 9/10. Not sure how that makes sense. Been trying to figure that out for a few minutes now. Maybe it's the lack of resolution.

>Everybody does cg now, and it is great when you’re making backgrounds, like environments and landscapes, but not the actual characters. I’m still very much inspired by the work of Chuck Jones, and I love that animation. It’s art. I’d like to keep the characters in that style for the rest of this campaign. So the characters on the show will be 2D, but everything else is up for grabs.
I love his viewpoint on this. I would like it if he directed every episode too but as long as he writes every one it should be great.

It would make sense to help and give Youtube Red an original series with a notable name like Gorillaz attached to it to increase its subs if they want to compete more with Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video.

I mean I'm sure he'll be very much involved give that he co-created the band but I'd like to see more animators channel their inspiration from the old cartoons from the likes of Chuck Jones, Bob Clampett, Tex Avery, Leon Schlesinger, and vice versa much as John K and Danny Antonucci did with Ren and Stimpy and Ed, Edd n' Eddy. It's a pretty cool animation style.

Shits good!
Ash's vacation is over now as Ruby sends dedites to draw him back to his hometown where he's an outcast for what he did in the cabin almost thirty years ago.
Now for some serious none summary spoilers
Seems like Ruby and the Ash team are joining forces to find the necronomicon. Pablo is gonna have to deal with becoming a brujo or being possesed by the book or whatever is fucking going on. And Kelly might try to usurp Ash.

I'm pretty pumped for this season.

I think part of it is just that he wanted the character to grow as a person more than he seemed to be. And that (as I understand it) Dan Harmon can be kind of a pain to work with.

99% sure that a more understanding, accommodating director could have gotten Chevy Chase to stay. But at the same time, the show may not have been as good with anybody else at the head (see: season 4).
