There's this old 70s or 80s movie I think it's about a serial killer possibly and the only scene I can remember is during a meal at a table where the male character with dark hair fakes enjoying the food but secretly hates it.

I think it was used for some promotion of a tv channel a while back possibly...

pls help

Nah it's neither Henry or Last Horror Movie.

This movie was from possibly the 70s or earlier or at least it recreated it well. I recall it being black and white.

Welcome to the Camp Firewood Ten Year Reunion! From David Wain and Michael Showalter, the masterminds who brought to life the original 2001 cult classic film and the 2015 acclaimed prequel series, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later is the hilarious new eight-part limited series starring the original cast, plus an all-star lineup of new cast members.

The series premieres August 4 on Netflix

Nah I get that Coop is the stereotypical dork character in this, but even in the original the scenes that involved his character were still funny as fuck. In the prequel series everything involving Coop was terrible and not funny because Showalter inexplicably gained like 80 lbs and acted like he was on Ambien.

Started watching it and I'm about half way through and and it's pretty solid and even Showalter isn't as bad as he was in the prequel series he's still a fat pussy though. Not bad at all honestly. Also liking that Bradley Cooper was replaced with Adam Scott. I assumed they'd be writing his character out of the show but this is probably the best recast since Scott has so much chemistry with this crew.

Wait, they couldn't even get Bradley Cooper for a cameo? Other than VO for GoG what else does that guy do these days? Shit, I figured he was an even bigger star when they shot the prequel series.

So I've been going looking at some shows that I felt like I missed, and that were a big hit. I'm gonna finish my watch through of LOST, which I've been really enjoying. WE HAVE TO GO BACK
Anyways, I'm looking at possibly checking out Mad Men next. I know it has received some acclaim with critics at least. What do you guys that watched it think about it and what do you guys rate it?
Jackie Brown - Tue, 08 Aug 2017 18:24:56 EST ID:95DHx0t/ No.386519 Ignore Report Quick Reply
I rank it 10/10 on par with Sopranos and The Wire, but I was also a chronic drunk back when this show was airing so the characters were all my drinking buddies (every single character is an alchoholic). The biggest complaints people have against it is a very slow pace in terms of plot. But I was never watching for the plot, it was more Drunk Slice Of Life. After a fast paced show like LOST, Mad Men might be jarring.
Also, the directing is on par with Kubric. If you're a cinephile, you'll be gushing over almost every scene and all the cool directing techniques they try.

If you haven't seen Fringe, that has a lot of the LOST creative team, I'd highly recommend it. The hero is an LSD addicted mad scientist who saves the world from trippy twilight zone style shenanigans.

Pretty much this. I started watching for all the nicely framed interiors and endless shots of people drinking and smoking, then ended up staying for the plot after a few episodes.

Actors are overpaid and not nearly as talented as stage performers. Treating an actor or actress like cattle isn't nearly as bad as how a lot of people get treated in their everyday jobs. We should be so lucky to get screamed at by some asshole for a few million dollars.

Alien Covenant out in HD torrent - Review by Eric Wareheim - Sun, 06 Aug 2017 06:38:05 EST ID:mXv0PiTc No.386306 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Magnet link at bottom.

Let me start out by saying that if like me and many others you're a long time fan of the Alien films (1&2) it would be a perfectly good move to avoid Prometheus and Covenant so as to keep the origin of the xenomorphs a mystery, because all these films do is sully the universe. Consider yourself lucky and entertain this as a strategy if you haven't witnessed the latest installments.
If I could unview Prometh and Cov I would.
But of course despite what we hear we're all curious to see what old Scott is doing so we watch them...

So I found Covenant in HD yesterday and watched it.

First off it's a straight sequel to Prometheus so you'll want to watch that first.

I'll keep this short since I'm not paid for this and all of 10 people will read it but I feel I need to get it out of my chest... ;)

Ok, so it's basically the same lazy film making as Prometheus and suffers exactly the same flaws.
-Lazy, inadequate character introductions / developments
-Very poor writing (both dialog and story)

People like you who don't demand or want their entertainment to be of actually high quality, lower the general quality of movies for everyone. The mentality of "lol just turn ur brain off it's meant to be dumb." is what keeps perpetuating the trend of making mass produced, soulless, unoriginal and absolutely idiotic movies.

I like movies. I like a lot of dumb movies as well. What I don't like is an industry, that at the moment, seems to actually despise humanity. They keep pumping out proggressively worse and worse quality movies that have NO need to exist other than to entertain idiots who like blinky lights and bright colors and make millions of dollars for the people who do not deserve any of that money. I'm not sure if I can blame them for losing respect for the general population. Mass producing shit and having people line up to pay you for it has to make you a bit cynical. I know it sounds like I'm trying to raise myself above the "cattle" and blah blah, but I don't give a shit. I JUST WANT TO WATCH GOOD MOVIES.

If it were up to me, I'd sink the whole goddamn city of Los Angeles into the fucking sea along with all of her slimy, soulless residents.

all very good points, but I don't think the new alien movies are a result of what you describe, they're more just an issue with Ridley Scott as a person being given too much freedom. at least as far as I can tell, idk if there was some big corporate push to make an "intellectual" movie where everybody is inexplicably a dumbass including the ripley analogue. When I look at Prometheus, I see an unrealized wreck of a film, but I don't see boss baby or the emoji movie.

Well those examples are just the very extremes thought up by cokeheads for laundering money. I'm talking about the rehashes that cash in on the nostalgia being the safest bet for at least getting your money back. It's a stagnant pool with money being sunk only into the most famous IPs. They all get a fucking hugely bloated budget and blow it all on god knows what. The results are these confused movies made out of nothing but money. They just say "We need a Die Hard reboot now." and only after that start coming up with ideas on how to make it. The movie should only be made if there was a good idea to base it on. Too much money, not enough respect for their work and hordes of yes men. They just go on to make the product for the sake of the product instead of making it for the sake of the people it's meant for.

I really wish people would start voting with their wallets more.

I second Dogtooth, this was a great movie. The incest stuff is really uncomfortable in it. There's a lot that's uncomfortable about that movie. But it's also pretty funny when you look at it as satire and dark comedy. It's likely the darkest comedy I've ever seen.

anyone else here old enough to remember seeing this in theaters and then asking their mom to rent the VHS the day it was reelased?

i remember coming home from school the day after I knew this was released for rental on VHS (I think it was available for rental before purchase). I was so fucking excited, I came home and couldn't wait to watch it again. It was like Christmas. I got there and there it was, the solid black VHS tape on the family room table. One of the top dozen times in my life i've been that excited for anything. I still remember waiting the entire school day knowing I would get to see the movie again, which I saw only once in theathers with mom when it was out for its original run. Truly one of the defining moments of my life.

I remember my grandmother would take me and my brother to the movies often in the summer. We went to see JP and I'll never forget when the raptor jumps out at Samuel L Jackson I said 'OH SHIT' loud as hell in the theater. My grandma didn't bust on me which was nice.

Good times, legendary film that I've probably seen 340942842 times.
