That Netflix season is a week away. I ain't got shit to say except I'm hype.

Spoilers are VERY important for appreciating this series so bring your A-game next week C-Higgy.

The mistake you are making is that rather than there being races predisposed to genetic conditions etc, in real life there are merely individuals predisposed to genetic conditions. So it's not racial. Every race has roaches.

True but presumably in the Black Mirror universe the US military actually knew precisely what genes made people bad. Race is a cultural thing, but genes are pure biology.

Just watched Hated in the Nation
It was.. eh..
Kinda a weak episode to end it on. I was hoping for something super bleak or intense suspense. The commentary was decent though the scenes with the bees were kinda corny.

I still need to check this out. It's funny, I hardly read any DC or Marvel comics and the capeshit blockbusters do nothing for me, but goddamn I fuck with DC's animation. I just finished a binge of Teen Titans after having not seen it after a decade when I was like 12. Really solid show. It's sad Go is shitty.

Any other DC animations y'all could recommend? I've seen JLU, Batman TAS, Batman Beyond and it's movie, Year One and Under the Red Hood (OK so maybe I mostly fuck with Batman animations).

The show or the decision?
Because there was nothing childish about Aqualad and Artemis being double agents/deep undercover, that would have fit with a hardboiled cop show. And the whole Red Arrow/Arsenal stuff was as equal intense.

Having rewatched it after the whole "girls watched it" thing came out, of course girls watched it.

Every male characters' story arc is "I need to learn to be a team player" and all the girls have a dark secretive past, daddy issues, and are involved in a love triangle.

Also I appreciate them trying to squeeze Icon, Rocket and Static Shock in there. How under used Static has become in the comics is a real shame, it's the newest character they own that has had mainstream appeal and they just let it flounder.

The film-industry is in a state of recycling. This isn't anything new, it's been a long time since Batman was a new thing, but I can't help feeling that it's been happening more lately. Maybe it's harder to get into the independent film-scene now-a-days, but it shouldn't be, it's fucking 2016.

Am I right? Has it always been this way? Are we in a state of decline in original ideas and culture? And is recycling a true form of creative expression or is it just people milking the golden goose?

What's up with this?

I think you're right that it's harder for indie films to get made today, and Hollywood doesn't like to make low budget pictures anymore (all about those tentpoles worth hundreds of millions of dollars) - but that's not to say they don't exist. there's still some great low budget and indie stuff being released.

but no, i don't think we're in a cultural decline or anything, it's just that ever since The Avengers and Transformers every studio wants their tentpole to make a billion dollars. they're kind of like the modern day Jaws and Star Wars in that regard.

I also think recycling stuff can definitely be artistic and creative. it just usually isn't with Hollywood. pretty much nothing is 100% original these days anyway.

Quarry, a disillusioned Vietnam War vet, returns home to Memphis in 1972 only to find rejection and scrutiny at every step. A mysterious man known only as The Broker gives him an offer he can't refuse - to work for him as a hitman.

The third episode airs tonight. This show so far has been absolutely brilliant in cinematography, and to say that the acting has been on point would be a gross understatement. The characters are very compelling, and the action is great.

Given that this show is loosely based on the book series and each one is self-contained like Hap and Leonard and its TV adaptation are, the closure made sense and they pulled it off well. Even if Cinemax didn't renew it, I'd be okay with how it closed the season out.

Exactly. They didn't sign up to go to war as the government chose them to go to war. Mac going back for his second tour captures a sense of lonliness he had felt when he was building that pool trying to take his mind off of war. Unfortunately he couldn't stay away from it forever because it's like the saying goes, never leave a fallen soldier behind.

And Narcos got renewed for two seasons as the show will now focus on the Cali Cartel. I think it should be pretty good though I can't see it being better than the first two seasons when it focused on the Medellin Cartel and Pablo Escobar.

this movie was an amazing suspect of tenochtitlan levels of handling whatever comes out of your mind when you unmistakenly are a one of the people you cast in a theater crowd as well as the other people in the theater.

Even more superb is that it itself is an amazing piece of art, that somehow balanced mystification and explanation.

If you have ever known dr strange it will fufill. If you have ever relied on dr strange to explain his process without losing it's apeal you will love this movie.

all of the moments can make you feel as if you are on the expierience with strange and it has enough philosophical content to make you realize it's real at the very least in aesthetics.

You'll kind of feel like marvel did something weird here that feels like something your mind might contain or prefer to see projected in a distance but the movie is both visual and maintains a constant engagement.

Somehow cotaining complete opposites of automonous and interactive directions in performance. Which was Terrence McKenna's classic definition of magic. And that in reality left the ten percent open to fill or create.

In other words it was sorcery supreme.

Seems like it's hitting all of the right demographics: It pulls in MCU fans because it's MCU, it pulls in former MCU fans because it looks different from other MCU movies, and it pulls in non MCU fans because it doesn't look like other MCU movies. I'm going to see this on Tuesday with friends, but I'm already seeing multiple people talk about this is another MCU movie with shitty villains so I'm not too jazzed about this. I also still need to see Ant-Man and Civil War (along with Thor: The Dark World from way back) to kind of keep up with this MCU bullshit so seeing this movie out of order from the others sets off my movie series OCD.

What movies do you watch that have artistic value and MIGHT not necessarily fall under the category of a fun watch? Popcorn flicks are fine and all, but what are your movie vegetables? What are the movies you hold above all others, what are the movies you use to impress people at parties to make them think you're more interesting than you really are?

One of my go tos is Tati's Playtime. Visually amazing, and as the name implies very playful. Even though it's light on words, it's still French so it makes you look classy as fuck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrYB8hgyq4s

Primer is like Donnie Darko. Fans really love the multiple viewings it requires to understand, but really it's more of a deficiency in the storytelling. They were terrified the Hollywood overexposition but erred way on the other side of the line, it's admirable but not ideal.

It's not really a genius movie but Cashback is an amazing movie about an artist with mental superpowers of sorts.

The Crown tells the inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world -- Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street - and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century. Two houses, two courts, one Crown. The series will trace the life of Queen Elizabeth II from her wedding in 1947 to the present day and is expected to span 60 episodes over six seasons.

The first season is now available on Netflix

And it cost 100 million euros to make the first season. I do like historical fiction though and I usually tend to watch Netflix's newest original dramas depending on the buzz, which seems to be getting plenty of.

Damn, that's a chunk of dough. Is this a Netflix original, or a British show that they call a Netflix Original like Happy Valley or Peaky Blinders when really it is just the only place to get it legally in the US but is really a BBC or Channel 4 original series?

Also, I like documentaries and non-fiction but historical fiction is usually a turn-off for some reason. The Last Kingdom is the only good one I know, and that is so over the top that it had nothing in common with standard historical fiction.

It's a Netflix original.

For me it depends on the time period and how good it is based on story and characters like Spartacus or Vikings to a lesser extent.

A thread to complain about the worst thing on TV. That's including the home shopping network.

I dont exactly hate them but I don't like them. Dad always tried to get me into them but I realized a long time ago they were not for me, always told him I was more of a movies and TV guy.
Still, stuff like super bowl parties are fun because I usually see people I haven't seen in awhile and get to eat some dank ass food. Going to games is pretty fun too, I've been to a couple. Always a good place to people watch. Buncha drunk fucks getting into a fights and shit and yelling at the referee or team players that clearly can't hear them

The home shopping network is fucking amazing. Seriously.
Have you actually ever sat down to it?
It's live, commercial free, they take callers and have hot older women.
