>Binging is bad for discussion, period. You'd have to perform some serious mental gymnastics to say otherwise.

No mental gymnastics needed. Because the only correct thought is it literally does not fucking matter.

Then again. I hate your entire species. So maybe my lack of desire to talk to you to begin with makes me biased. Possibly. Probably.

People are free to binge.... Once the weekly airing of the series is over. Funny tho, I always see those people who came into a thread mad late, "Oh, I just watched all the episodes of _______", and they almost never have nothing specific to say, they can only speak about the series as a whole because they only experienced it as a whole. And hardly anyone responds to them — who wants to talk about GoT two month after it's fully aired? It's just bad form.

We'll never know what the discussion would've looked like had they done a weekly episode limit of Stranger Things. Sure, there are questions left at the end, but questions in episode 1 could be solved solved by watching episode 2, and episode 3, and episode 4, and so on. At no point do people have to stop and look to themselves or the community for answers, because all they have to do is put on another episode that will inevitably answer it. Hell, trying to look for answers to a question you have in Episode 1 is dangerous because you risk being spoiled by people who have seen the full season and are careless about spoilers.

Watched the Body Double (1984) last night, and liked it well enough. It wasn't as odd or crazy as I had hoped it would be, but the great 80s aesthetics and the general vibe of weirdness were nice.

I wish I could see movies like this with contemporary eyes. What was it like to go and see a movie like this in 1984? Was it LESS odd back then, given that nowadays we mostly get very stale and run-of-the-mill blockbuster movies?

Part 1

So last night after many severe blows and bowls to the dome I decided to watch a good maritime movie. So I pick "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" some Bill Murray thing about him and the ocean. Basically I wanted to know about this so called "life Aquatic" because it sounds like a rip off of my "tan aquatic" show that I ripped off from family guy...

The story sea far...

so bill Murray is Owen wilsons father and that one elf birch from the lord of the rings has a fucking bun in the oven. So Steve is a washed up David Attenborough / James Cameron (the diver not the movie dude) and Owen is his son and his career sucks so he decides to kill a rare and undiscovered shark that ate his producer, also Geoffrey Goldbloom from juASSic park is like a rich sea dick, and they get boarded by a Japanese soup kitchen, bill Murray striaght up navy seals those fools some how shoots one in the head and dumps his body over board... at this point I ate an entire plate of brownies and was so stoned I passed out and only remember like 1/10th of what I watched...

So there will be a part two hopefully tonight so I can review it for you fine people so you have a deep understanding of this film ;)

I was wondering when this show would be back but I'm glad it is. I liked the premiere and Mike and Phil being lab rats. Those pills dun made them think that Lumpy was real. I also liked the fleas talking basketball and of course I knew Michael Rapaport was gonna be one of the fleas since he's a huge Knicks fan. The algae questioning his existence was funny too.

Caught up on the past two episodes. Damn they actually had Lois Griffin cameo on an episode. That whole Pigeons episode was just surreal with Jacob's whole fantasy journey. Also the Roaches episode was pretty good even the seagulls reality show subplot. Roach Phil made the ultimate sacrifice and baby Frank is now the roach messiah lol.

I hope HBO keeps this show around beyond its 2 season order. I like how they're putting its niche comedies on Fridays nights with this and High Maintenence. Like a higher end version of Adult Swim.

Based on the Marvel Comics series by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz and from creator Noah Hawley (Fargo), Legion is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens) – a troubled young man who may be more than human.

Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David’s routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which he must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees are the result of him being a mutant.

Episodes air Wednesdays at 10pm EST on FX

So I'm 6 episodes in so far and I can't help but feel this show is a little too obtuse for it's own good. I'm enjoying it, for what its worth. But the fact that it's been six episodes and there hasn't been any indication whatsoever as to what is real and what is just in David's head, and the total lack of any grounding at all has resulted in me taking longer and longer to get back to episodes. With the first six taking me about a month to finish. Usually I can binge that many episodes of a show in one night without blinking.

I'm reluctant to watch because I just know that it'll be more gobbeldy gook "is any of it reeeal?!" again and again with no significant forward movement. It feels like there's nothing actually at stake, since for all I know as a viewer none of the shit going down is real. Therefore it kind of doesn't matter.

I don't know, maybe that's exactly why other people like it so much. No questions are getting answered and it all kind of bends the mind. And I can dig that. To each their own. But I don't think it's for me and I'm really struggling to justify going any further.

Talkin' bout the movie, but also the TV show (and you know what? Fuck it. Tokusatsu and toku-derived shows in general).

Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie, flawed as it was, and can only see the next one being better.

Also, I'm wrapping up Power Rangers RPM right now. Which PR season should I watch next?

It's not too complex for me. It's too complex for Power Rangers. If I want depth and storytelling, dozens upon dozens of shows do it better. Power Rangers filled the niche of action-packed, cheesy television, and it tried to expand from that, only to fail. The show was a huge success when it first came out — now the ratings barely compare. I'm curious why you think that is. You could probably blame the internet and changing habits amongst children, but ratings were low before the internet even replaced TV. What happened?

I mean you can turn on just about any episode of MMPR and watch it without the context of the previous episodes. It's still enjoyable and comprehensible. That's not that case with the latter seasons. If you jumped into the middle of a season, you'd be lost with a dozen questions. Like a lot of children's TV shows these days, there's a maturity and narrative focus that just doesn't really tickle my inner child.

I haven't really seen much Power Rangers since Zeo and Space. Started watching back when MMPR first aired. Also saw the original movie in the theater way back when. Iirc disney bought the franchise for a while and nearly ran it in to the ground.

A couple years ago I rediscovered Super Sentai and was instantly fascinated and binged a few select incarnations of it. My only exposure to post zeo power rangers is through sentai comparison videos. Some of them look god awful, Jungle Fury clips were particularly hard to watch after liking Gekiranger so much.

I'm interested in this new movie but I don't want to spend money watching it. Might go on an early matinee and check it out. Shame about Goldar. He went from a princely knight to a bumbling henchmen and is now a faceless cgi monster.

Eh, they could always have copied that scene from SAC where Batou dares the Major to have a fist fight, and while Batou is taking his boxing stance, the Major just hacks his brain and punches him in the face with his own face.

Put that scene somewhere in the beginning of the movie. BAM. Everyone knows that the Major is a hardass who gives zero fucks.

lol this thread is from November 2016, jesus christ.

Anyways, it bombed and made only $19 million over the weekend against its $100+ million budget. I guess since no one's talked about this movie for almost 5 months now on here that's to be expected but it has a 6.5 or so rating on IMDB at the moment so it's in that nebulous zone where it may still be a cool movie but one that won't win any awards.

Anyone here see it? Was it bad?

SIX WEEKS! How is there no thread for this?
If you want to talk about Old Man Logan, PLEASE make it clear that your spoilers are for the comics.

Final trailer (of only 2, which is perfect IMO) dropped - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH3OxVFvTeg
Much more focused on Laura / X-23 than the 'Hurt' trailer, some new action sequences, but still not showing too much for me. Most of what we see between the first two trailers seems to come from the scene of the Reavers tracking them down to the dilapidated building to get Laura, so I'm good with that. And if you're wondering what's with the scene about a minute into the trailer, yes, she does walk out with the dude's severed head in her hands, even though the trailer just shows her dropping the handcuffs.

Speculation:
After seeing how Laura behaves in this new trailer, I'd bet a stack of cash that a focus of the movie is Logan coming to terms with the blind rage that's been driving him for so long, and trying to save her from going down the same path he took. And I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to cry like a bitch at the 'family around the dinner table' scene, and Xavier's likely demise.

It's actually being premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, so whoever makes these decisions must think it's going to be something much more than any superhero movie we've seen before, and according to those who've seen the first act, it's even better than anyone is expecting.

I think it deserves its own thread instead of being forced to mingle with the rest of the Superhero jank in the general thread, but if not, you know what to do, Chiggy.

I don't even like X-Men but I really enjoyed this. X-23 is adorable. I felt bad for the family with the horses.

Saw this earlier, was pretty good. I'm not sure it will be Oscar-worthy in regards to awards, but I still enjoyed it. I feel like a second viewing would help me catch various little details I may have missed the first time around. I completely forgot that the X-Mansion was in Westchester so when that news report on the radio mentioned how the OKC incident mirrored the Westchester one I thought it meant that Charles accidentally killed a bunch of civilians, leading to him being branded an enemy of the state, not that he killed all of the X-Men and other mutants at the mansion.

I think I liked this better as a complete movie, but I feel that the first two-thirds or so of The Wolverine was superior (shame shit went off the rails in the final act). The grounded-in-reality nature of the movie kind of shone a light on the deus ex machina story devices IMO ("Eden" being gullible bullshit from the comics but turning out to be an actual place that all of the kids from Mexico somehow managed to all get to at the same time, the evil Mexican biolab having a massive supply of adamantium to make multiple Wolverine clones but never thinking of using adamantium bullets against Logan, Xavier being able to find and speak to Laura telepathically but not being able to "hear" Calliban and let Logan know that he's still alive and being used to track their group, Laura not only knowing how to drive but knowing how to drive her and Logan up to the Canadian border in North Dakota in that jeep while Logan slept). Still an enjoyable movie, though, but I feel that some of these issues keep it from being a "perfect" movie to me. I'll definitely watch it again, though.
