Any fans in this bitch? I recently binged this entire series so I'm not sure if this board watches this or not. I vaguely recall a thread for the last season but didn't pay it any mind since I didn't watch the show yet.

Also, bring back Peep Show. This is also a Peep Show meme thread.
Fuck it, it's a Britcom general with a Red Dwarf theme!

I watched the first two episodes last night and it's pretty funny. It's just super duper dated, but I think I might be able to dig it.
But the laugh track does bother me. Does it still have a laugh track?

>Does it still have a laugh track?
Not always.
It was a legit live audience show back in the day though.
It's a separate track on some of the DVDs where you can turn it off. At least one of the seasons had no laugh track at all because it was filmed mostly on-location.

I don't mind the studio audience but laugh track in post is just Big Bang Theory level trashy.

They're exactly the same for me. Live studio audience laughter is edited to shit in post anyway (like the Big Bang Theory for example).
A show's gotta be really really smartly funny for me to put up with something as dated and distracting as a laugh track, and Red Dwarf isn't imo

I think they made an episode on purpose left out the audience laugh. I admit it didn't seem as funny and more real like living a hard life on a ship.
There were some great moments in season 11 and I can't wait for 12.

I just want the laugh track to come exclusively out of rear surround speakers.
That way I could turn that shit down a little.

Got around to watching Revelations and Purgatory. The filmmakers really did an incredible job of being able to show all sides of the case from the victims, the West Memphis 3, the prosecutors and defense, the evidence and vice versa. The whole case in a nutshell was a witch hunt and a grave miscarriage of justice set against the backdrop of moral panic over satanism and devil worship especially in a town like West Memphis. It sucks they had to take Alford pleas and admit their guilt, but at least now they're finally free and Damien was saved from execution. As far as true crime documentaries go, this is a must watch.

So "The Emoji Movie" sucks, this is not really news to anyone. Instead I'd like to use it as a jumping off point to discuss some issues in the movie industry. Namely, movies that are just cynical cash-grabs from studios, how allowing a committee of studio executives to make changes can sometimes ruin a piece of media, and when we can expect "The Fidget Spinner Movie" to hit cinemas.

I read a pretty interesting article about this sort of stuff earlier on

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/27/magazine/why-hollywood-is-trying-to-turn-everything-into-movies-even-mindless-games-like-fruit-ninja.html

Seeing the amount of shitty sequels and awful concepts kind of bums me out. But then I realized that I probably paid for about 1 film last year. And if there's people like ME, who want to see interesting and new shit, and we torrent absolutely everything, then it's not really my place to criticize an industry that is mostly based off people who actual pay for things.

I'm probably not talking much sense right now, but I guess what I'm saying is that I'm more prepared to slag off films like this online and not see them than I am to actual pay for films I enjoy instead of torrenting them.

I absolutely saw the Lego Movie. It was a completely cynical marketing tool for Lego and other licensed properties. The plot is just as stupid as the plot for this dumpster fire. I maintain that this is getting worse reviews because reviewers are coming in more cynical because they aren't as nostalgic for this product as much as they were for the other product.

I just got back from seeing it. There were aspects of the movie that I enjoyed and other aspects of it that I did not enjoy. Overall I feel like this could be a really great movie in a Director's Cut to clean things up a little bit more, but it isn't mind blowing as-is.

Did enjoy:
  • Awesome worldbuilding. You can tell that this universe, with its many locations and alien races has been developed over a long period of time in the comics. This was my favorite thing about the movie.
  • Cool and unique chase scenes (especially the one that takes place in the "big market" area)
  • Several of the cross-scene cuts were smartly done
  • Movie raises interesting questions about the role of the human race in an intergalactic society
  • Most of all of the races and cultures in this movie were very peaceful and one even lives in a utopia. This is something that I don't tend to see in too many sci-fi movies lately.

Did not enjoy:
  • Various characters' acting was really uneven throughout the movie
  • Some of the CG (and there was quite a lot of it) looked kinda low-quality compared to the rest of the movie (this is likely due to different CG studios working on different scenes; as evidenced by the credits they worked with several different CG studios to make this movie).
  • Over explanation of certain things for dumb audiences. I don't like it when movies feel like they are talking down to me.
  • Many of the shorter scenes didn't feel very "real" or "lived in", they just felt like CG nonsense. I think that a big part of this is because the camera cuts to them without establishing shots and the camera leaves the area just as quickly before anything unique or interesting can happen.

I dunno the first time i heard about it was on here and then the video explaining why it flopped (pretty much no one knew it existed and or of the source material).

After someone on /vg/ mentioned it I decided to watch A Better Tomorrow, considering the only John Woo movie I've seen is The Killer it feels like a missing part of my education, and while I'm at it why not go on a spree. Anyone got any good recs for hard boiled Asian crime?

While I'm here I'll throw down my own for everyone, City of Violence. It's a Korean mafia/revenge story with some ridiculous 100-men brawls, no spoilers but the final fight scene takes a solid 20 minutes into itself, and they're not afraid to beat the shit out of their heroes, they just keep getting back up.

This shit was dope. The animation is good, the voice acting is excellent, and Trevor Belmont is a perfect sarcastic badass action hero cliche. I'm really looking forward to S2. If it was written as a film trilogy, and each season keeps the quality up and covers one film in about 4 episodes, this should be just short and sweet enough to be the best game to screen adaptation ever.

Wayne Campbell - Wed, 26 Jul 2017 11:00:26 EST ID:ePw6/ZuO No.385771 Ignore Report Quick Reply
Finally got around to watchin' this earlier, it was pretty good. Wouldn't say it's outright great or anything, but it's written pretty well and the hand drawn animation can be gorgeous.

It's obvious that whatever animation team is doing this needs to work on keeping characters on model though, there are shots of Trevor throughout this where his face straight up deforms and he looks like a different character. That's usually a pretty common problem within the first season of any animated series though, so I give it a pass.

I've been a big fan of these games for a long, long time and what made this really fun to watch was just how this connected to those. It does a great job of not only incorporating scenery and moments from the games you'd expect, but it gets down the history of the Belmonts, their conflict with the church, etc. It's a really faithful adaptation and that's one of the biggest reasons I enjoyed it.

As mentioned it's written pretty well, but I have to say I predicted the plot revelation that comes in the last episode from a mile away. But the dialog is good, it does a good job of making Trevor a legitimately interesting character, and Dracula's set up here is handled really well. Can't wait to see more of him, especially.

Overall, would recommend. I hope season 2 is even better and brings up the pacing by a bit though. This was only 4 episodes long but watching through it honestly felt a little longer than that. Particularly from the second episode on. But I do like the story that's being told here and I'd be more than happy to see more of it.

i'm looking forward to it. some of his exploits make me so uncomfortable it's like having an out of body experience.

maybe nathan's spoken about this, but at what point will these projects become undoable because business owners know his schtick? kinda like if people start recognizing Eric Andre his man on the street bits won't really work anymore.

It feels like a lifetime since we've had new Nathan. I'm especially excited about the one hour special revisiting past businesses.

I assumed that's why it took so long for a new season.
Businesses looking up him.

Nice, I haven't seen all his episodes so I'll definitely have to catch up before then.
