Stargate SG1 Binge follow up by Pikachu - Tue, 20 Feb 2018 22:48:44 EST ID:4PYKAkjr No.394527 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Stargate SG1 Binge Guy Here....Into season 8 and decided to do an update.

WTF happened to SG1 in the eighth season? All of a sudden Teal'c has hair, O'Neill is a General, Carter is dating some douchey cop. Some of the actors brought in outright stink up the place....Looking at you Jolene Blaylock...and the writing seems to have just gone out the window. The tried and true SG1 formula seems to be thrown out the window. You get weird episodes like the one with the billionaire who tries to expose the existence of the Asgard...bad acting by a bad actor with a bad accent and just a lot of badness all around. WTF?

Seriously, this better straighten up before I hit episode 200....

God, it was. Everyone moved all klunky-like and it didn't have any appeal.

So yeah, finally necrobumping this just to finish my thoughts on having watched all the SG media there is.

Man, did Origins blow. It...man...it just fucking blew. Also, WTF was up with that whole "go build a team to avenge my death?" bullshit? Why have that at all?

AND THE FUCK WAS UP WITH RA'S HEAD!
Yeah, that shit has me worked up. Like, I hope Peter DeLuise bangs this guy's wife and knocks her up, level of anger at the dude who decided to make Ra look like a fucking Funco giant head figure. Goa'ulds swap out bodies after awhile, so you could show just some young, handsome, vaguely ethnic looking dude play the part. And then they heaped on the whole bullshit thing that really ignores the existence of the Jaffa...

No sir, I did not like this one bit.

That said, overall, I fucking loved SG-1 and Atlantis. Solid shows. They worked well together too. Universe was waaaay too dark and was basically like the Stargate properties as written by a goth teenager.

Yeah, it wasn't great but shitting all over it doesn't help anything. If you want more real Stargate(full episodes, Extinction and Retribution getting made, etc) then you need to get behind Origins. It was a low budget trial run to see if running new content via Stargate Command was viable since they don't want to be at the whims of a network which is what got SGU and SGA axed.

You guys are doing the same thing that ended up getting SGU cancelled just as it was getting better. People went into it complaining about how shit it was before it even aired and it was cancelled before it had a chance to really find its footing.

Yeah, a webseries isn't going to be great with huge story arcs, big budgets, etc but its new Stargate and a jumping off point. If you want new, real, Stargate then you need to get behind Origins even if you didn't particularly like it otherwise that's the end of the franchise for a long time.

Go ahead and bitch all you want. Teal'c was going to be the focus of the next one and then a full series but without fan support SGO will be the last Stargate we get for a long time.

If you don't like the way the creator of a product works and you don't like their products either, you don't have to support them.

You vote with your dollar and if something sucks you don't give them money anyways in hopes that next time is better.

That's like saying that the fans ruined the chances of their being an other Stargate because they gave their honest opinion when MGM pushed out a half polished turd and charged $25 for it.

Get a grip.

Did hunter-gatherers drink booze while telling stories a lot or something?

It's curious to me because you can witness something very energized represented right in front of you while you are essentially stupefied. And yet you love it (if you're like me, at least). Pic not related

Are you talking about mead?

Anyway what I was really getting at is that I thought it seems weird that you are watching something very active in front of you while you are sedated yourself, though virtually all recreational depressants seem to induce a kind of stimulation as well. I just kinda rephrased the OP. I mean you would think you wouldn't want to see energetic humans when you are so neurologically depressed. But then there is the phenomena of dreams as well. Hmm interesting right? I find it very interesting

All right just watched episode 3
They killed Dalton which I'm kinda happy about. I'm starting to lose interest in this story with Brandy and Ash. It was a little fun to see normal life and Ash interact but it seems to be taking too much away from Ash and the story.

I don't know what it was about this episode but it feels like the whole show is about to turn into supernatural. I don't know if that's a bad thing it's just not what I wanted

Last night's episode actually felt good and more of a return to what the show should be. I feel like they tried to make Brandy the straight man but it fell flat. Evil dead is super ridiculous and even the serious characters need to be kinda goofy.

They might be able to actually make something good out of this season. I still think that this is gonna be the end of the series and I'm kinda sad about that cause some of the things done in the show were pretty cool and original.

King was basically a Democratic Socialist. I don't think you can really label him a "Marxist" in any way.

I can tell you one thing, if KING weren't murdered, he damn sure would be remembered drastically differently. This caricaturuzation of him as the civil rights Jesus sure as shit wouldn't have happened. All these right wing shitlords who always go on about how "MLK" wouldn't have protested this way! He'd have bowed his head, hat in hand, and politely asked the establishment if the police could please stop murdering unarmed minorities without due cause, and politely said "Okay, thank you. Sorry to bother you, sir." when his request was declined." would be singing a different tune about this guy who they've retroactively turned into this ridiculous Uncle Tom house n***we. I bet you there would be more than a couple Trump tweets denouncing him, he'd be labeled an outright Stalinist Commie, and the Hillary Clinton types would distance themselves from him like they do with Harry Belafonte.

But who else is hyped for Marvels Punisher on Netflix?

Do you think they'll keep the violence?

Do you think they will use parts of the Punisher-VG-OST?

Anyone remembers the funeral-scene in the Punisher Level, when you popped out the coffin and mowed down the Mafia-Family?

Honestly, they were probably hamstrung by the fact that Netflix demands their Marvel content all be crammed into the Dare Devil/Iron Fist/Luke Cage/Jessica Jones-iverse. Doesn't exactly leave you with a lot of options compared to a comic where a fuck ton of shit happened that wouldn't exactly fit into the PG-13-iverse they created.

I remember several years ago Rick Astley was a surprise guest on one of the floats during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and was truly astonished how the internet's sarcastic linking to his videos resurrected his dead career. Just the other day I heard him on a local radio station (with millions of listeners) saying something like "This is Rick Astley, on XX.X station." and Never Gonna Give You Up started playing. It's like old people who don't quite understand internet sarcasm thought he really was a big sensation and contacted him for deals, or something. Anyway, let this be a Rick Astley general thread. Anyone got any little-known facts about him?

here i googled it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4rAl86w08s not gonna watch it though

I heard it a while back, it was interesting hearing him discuss the culture change from the 80s when he made it VS the modern era. Something he said about the eggshell-walking dance and looming threats that are involved in modern dating, and how he would be terrified to even make a move if he were a young lad in today's environemnt, stuck with me. he came off really 'down to earth' and more insightful than you'd expect.

My latest spots and rccs for u!

Fright Night (1985)
Sw it first time yesterday, very fookin nice. Love the 80's (when hollywood peaked imo) and THOSE practical effects! Very cool movie. And Halloween is creeping up now soon so get started already with this one!

Scarecrow (1973)
Was in the mood for some 70's pacino since I'd only seen Dogday, Godfather and Serpico from that decade, so fired up imdb and found this plus the next recc. Comfy kino, Hackman does a very gud job and it was cool to see Pacino being more dynamic, playful and silly that I'd ever seen before.

The Panic in Needle Park (1971)
More 70's Pacino, and this is now among the top heroin films I've seen. Well acted, always nice to see 70's New York, and not too depressing. Made me both hate and understand junkies more.

So, I want to watch some documentaries that feature interviews with people to see how they are done. These are the kind of ones where a lot of it is simply the person sitting in a chair, talking to the camera. They don't need to be feature length or anything. But, the kind where they interview a person. Ideally the kind where the interviewer isn't seen on camera or heard much, if at all. I am drawing a blank myself, although I have seen it done many times.

Anyone have some recommendations? I want to study how they are made.

There are just a few topics and buzzwords that attract all the retards. It's unavoidable.

I hear movie theaters are dying. What's the alternative?

You must get all the pussy.

Anywho....yeah the theaters are going luxury. Oddly enough, small theaters seem to be making a comeback. In my area two small theaters have opened. They have big comfy seats, but only seat like 30 people at the most. Some of the theaters are literally a dozen seats. Although that is usually for the one screen showing the arty movie. It seems to work though. You buy tickets online.
Neither of the new ones have booze in my area, but our state liquor laws are fucky and make shit hard.
The AMC near me has a full bar now, and luxury seats that recline, etc. Seems to be the way forward. Not sure I'd order a cocktail from a place that serves $4.00 cokes though. Be paying Manhattan prices for your ummm... Manhattan.

This is basically what I do because I hate going to the movies. I've got a huge media server hooked up to all my TVs, big TV in the living room with surround sound, comfy couch, loveseat, and 2 nice, big recliners with coffee tables/end tables for drinks/food/drugs and a place in the corner for my pets. Next time I get some time off work I'm going to change up the lighting in there a bit I think but other than that I'm very happy with it. I'd much rather spend a night watching movies and stuff there than go to the theater.

I like being able to pause the movie if I want to take a piss, smoke weed, do drugs, drink, not have to worry about any of the other guests or going out, have good food, not have to plan my day around movie times, etc. Its just much more enjoyable for me at home. I may have to wait a couple months for a high quality release of a new movie to come out but I don't mind that and I've got plenty to watch in the meantime.

There are a few exceptions where I'll really want to see something in theaters. Usually its one of the shorter documentary films at an Imax because they usually pretty great; especially the space and underwater ones.

Strangely enough I don't mind going to see plays. I guess that's probably because you can't really see those at home, the experience is much more important there, and you do have intermission which I enjoy.

call me a pleb but i have no idea what you're talking about. when they do the dolby surround sound demo and play deep bass notes through all the speakers all around me i get pumped like "fuck yeah thats some REAL surround sound". please explain what it is lacking? do you have some multimillion dollar audio setup at home? in fact i would say the only reason i would even go to a movie theater these days is for the full sound effect. the "big screen" aint shit when it's so far away, plus you have to deal with The Public...

I don't like going to the theater. I had to switch theaters because the black youth of today ruined several movies in a row for me. But I have surround sound and 4k HDR tv at home so I just wait now, which kind of sucks but whatever.

They were talking about charging $100 to let you watch new in theater movies from your cable provider but I don't think much has come of it. But if that comes true, and if it coincides with 4k HDR cable then theaters might as well lock their doors because it's over. I will get at least 3 other ppl to come over and watch the new blockbuster for a little $ each.

You could get MoviePass depending on if any theatres near you accept it.
