I recently watched The Raid movies and I still think John Wick 1 & 2 are better. What do you guys think?

No there not. John Wick has better action and Gun-fu. The Raid movies are all just physical combat. John Wick uses both. John Wick is way fucking better than The Raid.

John Wick is more enjoyable in my opinion, it has the dark tone of Dredd 3D, that's why I like it.

Vastly superior martial arts and hand to hand combat choreography, and a sequel that doesn't end on a lame cliffhanger for one. I really liked JW2, but the ending sucked, and it was a step down from the first one in pretty much every way. JW has way better shootouts than Raid though.

Movies that made you mad? by Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore - Mon, 03 Jul 2017 03:01:31 EST ID:jXjGsIxz No.384702 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

Have you ever seen a movie that you were looking forward to seeing and the disappointment caused by it was so profound it made you angry? An important distinction to make: I'm not talking about modern day internet misanthropy where you vocally object to something popular in hopes of gaining minority acceptance. I'm talking about a movie where you go "Oh man, cool! I really want to see that!", then watch it, and afterward go "What the fuck, man? That was terrible, how did they fuck this up so badly?"

I've been watching the Planet of the Apes marathon on IFC and it reminded me of when I watched Tim Burton's remake back when it came out. I grew up loving the Apes movies, watching the original and the sequels on cable all the time with my brother. Before Burton's remake I admired the director for making so many cherished movies of my childhood (Beetlejuice, Batman & Batman Returns, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, and Mars Attacks!), so I went to see it when it premiered because it was two childhood favorites meeting as one, but man, was it awful. That movie was like a turning point for Burton to me, because after that then he pissed all over another cherished movie of mine, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, with his bizarre remake where he had Johnny Depp portray Wonka as a deranged pedophile facsimile of Michael Jackson.

Anyways, has any of you fellow cinema lovers experienced such a dour movie-watching experience?

It retrospect, I don't even know. The premise sounded good with a bunch of decent actors and I was hearing and reading nothing but glowing reviews from outlets I trusted... So of course I wanted to see a good movie. It just felt like I saw a completely different movie than what they must have seen because it had nothing they promised. I feel like I was forced into watching it by a marketing conspiracy that tricked me into thinking it was something worth watching.

Actually Rachel Ramras, Yung Hee's voice actress, is a co-writer on MTM with Larry Dorf and creator Hugh Davidson. They came up in The Groundlings together and also co-created and star on the show Nobodies on TV Land. And while Yung isn't the show's best character, she acts as a voice of reason for the team.

I like a lot of his movies, mostly Pi. I wouldn't say he's overrated, mostly because his movies uh, aren't that highly rated. He doesn't enjoy widespread name recognition either, really. I like him as a director a lot though. I will look forward to his new film, there haven't been many good AI films (some). I hope he gets whats-his-name to do the score again uh Clint Mansell yeah. Darren Aronofsky is one of the greatest directors of our generation. Say what you will about Noah or The Fountain — Requiem for a Dream, Pi, Black Swan, The Wrestler. Those are 4 top-notch, brilliant films. Most directors struggle to make fire once, yet alone 4 times. And these ain't hollow Hollywood films either, they explore the dark depths of humanity, the characters repeatedly destroying themselves in an effort to achieve some goal or ideal.

That being said, I was disappointed to see him working with Jennifer Lawrence in his newest film. I can't stand that bitch... she better actually, y'know, act.

Go see this fucking movie, guys. I don't usually make threads about a single movie, but holy shit this is a good one.

I wish I could hug Edgar Wright right now: he's reminded me why I love movies so much; how the rare film can feel fucking magical. I expected the whole "music as a soundtrack for life" thing to be fun as hell, but sort of gimmicky, and instead I was blown away by how perfectly it works. I literally can't remember the last movie I saw that was as enjoyable as Baby Driver. Hot Fuzz is my favorite movie of all time, and I never expected Wright to make another movie that I would love even more, but the guy pulled it off. And unless you have a phenomenal home theater system, you need to see this in theaters.

I suppose it's likely that my own love for music (bordering on an inability to live without it) makes me a little biased here: I felt physically nauseous when Buddy tried to deafen Baby. However, the rest of my family agreed that it's the kind of cinematic achievement that will reaffirm your love for movies. I can't recommend it enough -- seriously, if I were sitting on a pile of cash, I would find a way to pay for you all to see it lol

Voice Acting but I'm French by Kenny Powers - Tue, 11 Jul 2017 05:20:59 EST ID:gl4O4wg+ No.385038 Ignore Report Reply Quick Reply

I want to be a voice actor really bad but I don't know where to start.

I would do the job for free. Money is not what I'm after. I just want to get better and get feedback.

What are some good places to audition? I've seen sketchy sites so I'm not sure which to use.

Also French is my native language and I'm afraid that it will taint my English accent in a bad way. That really bothers me, not having a neutral/average American accent. I so wish I didn't have that.

Could I ever get rid of it?
>>
Roy Neary - Tue, 11 Jul 2017 09:44:41 EST ID:vlSXbkoj No.385044 Ignore Report Quick Reply
I dunno, I find getting accents key to understanding new languages. Then again I've never been schooled through any of them by teachers with heavy accents.
My only credibility in this advice comes from watching a shitload of TV but I think I'm onto something.

Most important in French to English is transitioning from the syllable timing to stress timing. Poetry is your friend here. Even just written on the page it often demands to be read a certain way.

Just don't learn it from huge American sitcoms from the 90's, that was how a very small segment of the population spoke and now thousands of scandinavians have adopted it as their english tongue. It's a little strange.

Most importantly, there is a point where letting some of your accent through lends you a more convincing quality that stifling it entirely.
Morena Baccarin is the best example I can think of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_8Us2UHaTI
There's something a bit uncanny about her speech that always bothered me. Then one day I heard her speaking her normal voice and I suddenly realized she's not a bad actress, she's South American. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb259nABzXM

Her natural accent in English is so slight but in stamping it out completely she draws more attention to it. The minor tells in her natural voice would fly under the radar in performance.

So my advice is modulate your accent up and down as necessary rather than trying to take on someone else's voice. The idealized accent you'd be going for probably doesn't actually exist in the wild. It might be useful to train yourself in that idealized neutral accent, but mix your natural voice back into it a bit.

Just be a French voice actor, geez. It's not like there aren't two significant parts of the world that speak and consume French media... I mean fuck, by choosing to be a French voice actor you increase your odds of success by a ridiculous amount since generic English voice acting is oversaturated as it is — and if you ain't noticed already, it's always the same people, over and over and over.
>>

Mod makers and indie game devs will ALWAYS look for voice actors. I'm on the opposite side of you OP. I worked with a voice actor a few years back and I might need one in the near future. The gamedev community is almost exclusively english speaking, having a french accent might be bad in that regard. Tho the guy I worked with was french (I am as well) and he did pretty good in english, so I wouldn't worry. Just practice man!

There are literally places on the internet where you can do voice acting for free.

I don't know where exactly to post this but here it goes. I wrote a script for a short animated film (6-7 minutes) and I don't know what the hell to do with it. No hate, I'm not just some wannabe, I know I can write, just don't know what to do with my work. Do you have any advice, ideas or personal stories about something like this to share? Anything is welcome. I don't know if there's any point to this quest or if my script is useless and I should just write it to a backup dvd and forget about it.

See if any animators wanna work on it with you, ding-dong. There are plenty of folks willing to collaborate on things like this for fun.

this. find some animators who live locally to you, there is nothing animators love more than having something to animate.

Post in classifieds that you're looking for an animator to collaborate with. Make it clear you're not trying to hire an animator though.
