Wasn't as bad as i was lead to believe. I agree with a few others here that it would have been better as a spinoff instead of retelling. To Netflix's credit, this version of Light is much more believable. I've never understood the obsession with super intelligent characters that are in fucking junior high or high school, it's ridiculous. It makes for a less interesting story, true, but having Light be driven by the power of pussy was pretty hilarious and in line with the amount of forethought and emotional control teens have.

I also liked this version of L, but again, they might as well have been different characters altogether.

Also, Ryuk looked menacing as fuck. Great design choice, distracting but entertaining voice work by Dafoe.

I'll give it a 5/10. An alright adaptation and i get what they were going for with the character changes, but also reductive and alienating to some fans nerds

if you haven't realised it yet, a vast majority of popular manga is conceived by high schoolers, or people who spent their formative years learning how to draw rather than how to write, so that's why we get a lot of high school stuff. They say write what you know. And also some of it is to appeal to the high schooler market itself.

>Room 104 s01e06 - Voyeurs

This was an avant-garde episode in how it conveys the story of one woman showing both younger and older versions of herself through interpretive dance. The cinematography and music were good but it was a strange episode that even my friend didn't even understand. Each episode is just completely different in terms of its structure and tone but I appreciate what the Duplass Brothers have done and that each one can appeal to different people.

That beard is weird but so is living in a retirement community off the grid abstaining from using technology with your only friend being an old guy who likes watching The Fall Guy. That guy was fucking hilarious. Part 2 was even funnier with Gretchen all fucked up on drugs and singing random lyrics to songs and pretending she's in Europe. That whole realization with Lindsay and Edgar being the sane ones and that sex scene was good too. Its gonna be quite an entertaining season though I'll miss the old intro.

Oh right, he was in The Nutty Professor. For some reason my brain combined that and The Absent-Minded Professor into one movie in my head and I knew he wasn't in that movie. Now that I think about it, I dunno if I've ever watched all of The Nutty Professor. I just checked the next week on TCM and didn't see anything so I'll keep an eye on it in case they run a Jerry Lewis marathon to honor him.

I can vouch for the following 4 films. They're all entertaining, captivating and well-made both cinematographically and performance-wise.

The Ides of March (2011) - A film about 'dirty politics', starring George Clooney and Ryan Gosling.

State of Play (2009) - A film about a journalist investigating a congressman with a bit of a background.

The next two aren't political per se, as they're about the skullduggery that goes on at law firms, but they definitely have a similar tone and atmosphere as many political thrillers.

Fracture (2007) - Starring Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling.

Michael Clayton (2007) - Starring Tilda Swinton and George Clooney.

I have not seen "The Insider" but it's supposed to be a good film.

Do the Jack Ryan movies count? Cause I fucking love those. Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford editions being my favorite. Sum of All Fears was OK? I saw it in the theaters and don't remember hating it lol. The brand new Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) was alright too. More of an action movie tho. A Clear and Present Danger and The Hunt For Red October feel way more political with a nice seasoning of action to keep things interesting.

Heres the first trailer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ory6b2EJ3Bk&feature=youtu.be

I didn't think this show could survive without Pablo but I have to admit, this looks promising, they made a pretty enticing trailer. It also looks like Murphy isn't going to be in this season which, in my opinion, is a good thing since I always found him to be the most boring character on the show.

Never watched this show before, although I am aware of Pablo Escobar's life of crime and the events that lead to his downfall. As such, I'm surprised they've stretched it out to 3 seasons. Are they at a point where they're just taking liberties with the source material or is this the season when shit starts to fall apart for Escobar and he gets gunned down in the finale?

No not really.
First two seasons followed pablo, his family, his mob, and the agents chasing him (mostly these two guys who are hunting him)
pablo is dead now though so this season is going to have some of the same characters since the cali cartel were present in the previous seasons and only one of the guys who was chasing pablo
Honestly I would have liked it better if it WAS an anthology series and season 3 focused on some other giant drug dealer but I haven't watched anything from the third yet, can't really say I'm disappointed

I think it was mostly due to a lot of people who didn't know about alias in 2001 .

Before that she was jewel then knightress.
More or less she was one of those characters that popped up in everything but didn't really have much a hard presence until alias.

Funny thing is Luke cage and Jones have a daughter named Daniel after iron fist, and squirrel girl is her babysitter .

Alias was actually decent the whole run.

Trish Walker aka patsy Walker aka hellcat is also a long tenured character. Im personally pretty curious how or if they are going to go the full route with that one.

Any movies you're looking forward to this year?

Looks like it's the year cyberpunk and space operas are back, with Ghost in the Shell, Blade Runner 2, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Guardians 2, and another Star War all releasing this year. Think I'm most looking forward to Song to Song, Valerian, and Guardians.

Song to Song is Terrence Malick's new flick about love and musicians in Austin, TX. doesn't sound as interesting as his other movies but it's still Malick and the cast is great so I'll be trying to catch this in theaters.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets just looks epic and fun. definitely one to see on drugs.

Sorry Chigs, I looked back 10 pages looking for this, I guess I missed it.
Although, since I'm a little prick, I will point out that this is a 2017 hype thread, and there's no way that a 4th season of Hannibal, if we get it, would be coming out this year ;] /

I know it's just the author's opinion, and "we're talking about it" usually means "we hope we can do it," not "we're definitely doing it, sooner or later," but I'm still hyped as fuck.

We can have a 2018 hype thread January of next year. I'd hope for a 4th season of Hannibal though would NBC greenlight it again or would it be on a different network? Given that Bryan Fuller is working with Starz on American Gods, perhaps it could end up there.
