I can only pray that that Skyla or whatever they call it is quickly forgotten, and Hasbro hasn't fucked up too much

The fact that it's being treated the least bit shocking implies we might finally learn something about how the fuck Alicorn's work, which is a win for me.

This was the weakest opener we've had.
Every subplot would have been better served by itself mid-season. A difficult-to-manage baby is a terrible antagonist. Her actions dooming the city if the sunset shimmerstarlight glimmer plot isn't resolved just seems so arbitrary.

I'm going to assume it was either so bad my subconscious has buried it to protect my sanity or it was completely forgettable, as I've no memory of S4's opener.

If that UFO is a changeling, I wonder how they're coming back.

Maybe a plan relying on Twilight's paranoia; I mean the one time Twilight doesn't like someone and is a complete dick to her, it turned out that she she was an evil parasite.
So next time the changelings can exploit this by getting her to falsely accuse anyone who might threaten their plan, knowing that everyone will listen to her.

Huh. I didn't consider that.

On one hand, it means more Skyla.
On the other, this could really interesting if changelings aren't just generically evil and dumb and the entire episode is just about getting Skyla back from "the bad guys".

Chrysalis was mean and evil, so it was easy to overlook that she was trying to feed her people.
When you bring a baby into the mix, it's harder to dehumanize the changelings for doing what they need to survive.

Does a baby alicorn changeling about Skyla's age have implications for Shining and Cadence?
Are they half-sisters? I'm not entirely sure how these things work.

Bump for new episode.

I'm sure the opener was just the writers trying to mitigate Hasbro's mandates, and the rest of the season won't be written so poorly.

Overall I think I'm enjoying this season less than season 5. Last season each episode reliably made me laugh at least once per episode, this season hasn't felt quite as sharply written. They're doing a lot of stuff this season though, so I suppose that make it harder to focus. It's good to see a show shake up its status quo a little bit and stick with it, so good on them for that.

This season's alright, but if I was watching this season without being high I doubt I'd enjoy it. Last season was good enough to watch as a legit adventure cartoon, lately I feel like it's reverted back to just a guilty pleasure

Well then.

The Indian episode was cozy. The Shy-bro episode was feelsy. The fanboy episode was funny as fuck. Seriously, loved that blatant strawmanning at the beginning. Patton Oswalt's a cool dude.

Patton was great. I didn't care for the flutterbro ep though. I dunno what it was exactly, I guess I feel like most MLP antagonists are revealed to have some kind of sympathetic element by the end of the episode (or at least after an arc) that explains why they were douches and I never felt like we got that for him. His fear of failure just seemed like lazy writing. The rest of Fluttershy's family was fun though.

What was the transmet reference?

These last two eps were pretty great, reminded me why I still watch this show, actually laughed out loud a few times. Pinkie remains Prank Queen.

This show always impresses me with how well it holds to a general observation of mine: whenever an episode description sound dumb or lame as fuck it's awesome, and the episodes that sound awesome are always underwhelming

Eh, I guess I agree? I was reeled in by the fantasy/adventure stuff and those episodes have gotten so few and far between, so I've learnt to appreciate the cozy slice-of-life ones more. Plus I tend to go into the former with very specific presumptions.
>Discord episode! We'll finally find out where he came from!
>Alicorn episode! We'll finally get an origin for Celestia & Luna!
>Timeline episode! We'll finally see that Nightmare Sun card get used!
Latest episode was a very welcome exception, that felt satisfying (especially since OP said in the last thread that they'd never revisit changelings haha fukuopiwin).

Years later and this cringeworthy, parasitic dogshit is still finding a way to force it's way into public consciousness. I wonder how long it would've lasted had it not been for the creators and fans constantly making sad, unfunny pony versions of every IP imaginable to keep it somehow relevant. It's like the world's overwhelming disgust of it and you has kept you attached to it, feeding it out of spite because somehow a show made for preschool girls has made you feel a little less like a pathetic fucking tool.

I just hope they don't try to redeem the entire changeling race. There's no real conflict if all changelings can feed without parasitizing the host.

If Chrysalis isn't motivated by the need to feed her people, then she's just attacking the crystal empire/canterlot to be a dick and that's not a very interesting conflict.

Episode was okay. I like D&D episodes in general but this one didn't spent much time on the actual D&D parody, which is why D&D episodes are fun in the first place. Although if they ever want to do a second episode of Ogres & Oubliettes they've laid the groundwork for a great 22 minutes. The part at the end where PP and RD join the party as a rogue and a bard? That's the episode I want to see, not to be shown yet again that Discord's an insecure egotist who's only real vulnerability is being reminded people get tired of his shit.

also they missed an episode to let Big Mac talk in character, would have been funny for him to be the one who role plays as a bard or other CHA heavy character

anyone else look at the titles for the upcoming episodes? Looks like they might be fun

Maybe not genocide, but every villain doesn't need to be redeemed.
Changelings are an interesting villain and Chrysalis is more sympathetic if she and most changelings are fated to be enemies of the ponies.

If bug jesus tries to bring chrysalis over, I'd rather an episode where he's tricked by Chrysalis into unintentionally betraying the ponies, and a lesson about trusting people's actions and intentions over their words.
Instead an episode where everything was a misunderstanding and everyone Chrysalis tried to imprison, kill, impersonate, brainwash and parasitize, or trick into killing her childhood friend forgives her and a lesson about how you should trust someone even when they have every reason to exploit you and have done so at every opportunity.

Yeah, that episode was really a waste of Delancie. Next season I guess.

>every villain doesn't need to be redeemed.
That's precisely what Sombra and Tirek are for.
>most changelings are fated to be enemies of the ponies.
See, here's the thing. You're talking about an entire race here, not an independently-acting bad egg. Profiling a sentient people on principle. Brushing the disconnect off as "oh well anyone in this group is just inherently evil" would be the complete antithesis of what the show stands for.

I don't even have a problem with you're suggestion, since that puts all of the blame of Chrysalis as an individual. Hell I've considered it myself. She's stubborn, she's abrasive, she's both the queen and mum to all changelings so they'll do whatever she says, it could easily all be her fault. But to suggest that untold millions are beyond hope simply because of how they were born? What kind of message would it teach to the actual kids watching?

The finale doesn't sounds changeling-y so suffice to say I'm reserving hype.

I suppose it's more difficult now that they've humanized one changeling.
I guess there could be a schism among the swarm, where a few changelings accept Bug Jesus into their hearts, which Chrysalis+the rest of the swarm use to infiltrate and invade.

It can end with the good changelings going off to form their own, self-sufficient hive so they don't endanger the ponies, this also means changelings can remain out of sight.

Depressingly uneventful tbh. They have a party, lots of 'membering happens, Twilight ruminates on the importance of change for 20 minutes only for everything to stay the same by the end anyway. Maybe it'll be looked back on as an important paradigm shift for the show, or maybe they're just treading water this season because of the movie.
I'm more interested in the next EQG. That's probably bad. But hey, they're all Power Rangers now with a mysterious crisis on their hands. Shit will HAPPEN.

Thanks for the bump. I've been loving this season more and more with each passing week and seeing the Cartoon General was making me antsy.

Every episode's been so satisfying. Development after development, update after update, payoff after payoff, and according to all the upcoming synopses the trend's gonna keep going. I was completely wrong about the premiere and couldn't be happier for it; CHANGE is S7's bread & butter. Where do I even start? I could write an episode-by-episode rundown I'm on such a high.

I've been seeing crackpot doomsday theories about the main cast getting written out & replaced for about 2 years now. The fact that this now seems totally plausible and I'm OKAY with it, hell maybe even WANT it to happen? That's testament to how good a job they've done. Keep the ride going you mad bastards.

Also the movie's sounding less like a whimsical children's adventure and more like a fucking Anime with each passing leak. Calling it now, it'll end with an airship dogfight in the middle of a thunderstorm. Become The fucking Wind motherfuckers.

I was also wrong about EQG assumptions. Episodes sound meh AF. Bare minimum of Magical Girl shit.

Wings were the end of her arc from the beginning. She was being groomed for that shit since fillyhood.
Just as Rainbow Dash's arc was either growing as a character, getting her shit together, going back to flight-school, and becoming a wonderbolt or maturing and accepting that a high-school dropout living in a small village isn't going to become part of an elite military unit based out of a city far away, Fluttershy was to grow out of her shell and become more sociable, and Rarity was to expand her business.

The problem is not the wings, Dash getting into the wonderbolts, Rarity expanding her business, those were the natural conclusions, but they way the writers handled them getting there, and the effect or lack thereof after the characters reached their goals.
