American Dad! season 14 by C-Higgy !lfsExjBfzE - Mon, 07 Nov 2016 11:19:22 EST ID:uInzn1Q/ No.375276 Ignore Report Quick Reply

After a surprisingly good season earlier this year, American Dad! makes its return as Stan Smith leads his all-American family. Everyday life is taken to the limit as Stan applies the same drastic measures used in his job at the CIA to his home life. Driven by machismo and the American dream, he often is blind to how horribly he fails at his attempts.

The season premieres tonight at 8:30pm EST on TBS

Oh fuck yes. I hope the quality of last year continues. This show had a rough transition to TBS but once it found its footing, it was fucking glorious.

Heck yes I love the fall TV season so much.

For the life of me I can't convince my friends to give it a chance. Any suggestion for good episodes to get virgins into the series?

They sound like cunts, my friends love this show. Tell them to shut the fuck up and watch it. My first episode was the one where Hallie was sleeping with her dad's body double (I was also tripping on shrooms). Make your friends take shrooms and watch that one.

I still havent been able to get back into the TBS era episodes. i was flicking around the telly the other day and it was an older episode where steve and stan are in a mexican jail.

Reminded me how awesome the show used to be. I miss it.

This episode was pretty good. The concept was stronger than the jokes, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I lol'd at Snot's brief appearance trying to drag Steve back to school when Stan brutalized him with his brain flasher.

Agreed. Stan pulling a Groundhog Day just so he can have the perfect Father's Day, while being selfish and narcissistic, fits his character to a t. I also liked the return of the Golden Poop storyline and Roger trying to get in a good position before the flashback.

I actually had a lot of laughs this episode. The thing that stands out for me was the first time Steve attempts to build a birdhouse and he's complaining about his contractor and hydro guy who are a stuffed bear and a J.I. Joe type action figure. "Steve, you have come terms with never being with a woman right?"

Okay I enjoyed that for Roger being an emotional and pregnant person. Also I laughed at how he compared Jeff being like one of those dino sponges that you soak in water and it grows. Also I do like whenever this show features Steve and Snot's friendship and this episode didn't disappoint in that regard.

I liked Francine and Santa having different preferred translations. Stan was all "I've never even seen you open a magazine!"

This ep had a lot of funny jokes, just silly stuff occurring. Like the parents whose kids vanished wearing a Proud Parent shirt while singing a parody of TLCs No Scrubs about having No Kids. And Roger's Grindr drama, "I'm with my family here, this is a serious breach".
I wish we got some side plot about Jeff alone in vacation goo.

Insta classic, the laughs were unrelenting. I noticethey have been adding lots of cool dream sequences and psychedelic sequences to episodes lately, I smoke a lot and appreciate these things.

I'm glad the show has stayed so good so long. Although I won't lie, I do dislike a lot of the fans now who came to the game late, even AV Club is putting out articles praising American Dad's long journey, as if they weren't just jumping on the bandwagon.

A good return and the way that whole scene played out with Stan admitting to Francine he cheated (in slot car racing) was hilarious. Also Roger trying to do his standup on Southwest, which the flight attendants do have a sense of humor but don't have to to try so hard to be edgy.

I've been watching it since the pilot aired after the Super Bowl but it really grew up from being a Family Guy clone to what it is now. Where are those articles btw?

The parts of the ep you mention under the spoiler tags had me fucking dying.

My favorite aspect was that I thought they would ruin the episode by saying "it was all a dream" like Always Sunny always does, I'm glad they stuck with it and just magically fixed everything. Especially when Roger was forcing Steve to buy that stupid trinket he had before he could get the spell to save them all. The whole ep was priceless. Sometimes the plot driven eps lack jokes but this ep had a big story and non-stop laughs.

Hilarious ep, now that's how you do a sports episode of a show (guy who always bitches about sports eps of things here). I hope Haylie driving a cab is an ongoing thing, its not the biggest canon change for her to have some form of job. I like to imagine Jeff as perpetually unemployed, though.

Same here. I did come to appreciate the Hayley cab driver subplot once they got to the noir voiceover part. I didn't mind the main plot with Steve and being hated for getting Johnny Concussion to retire and I did like the ending of Steve realizing how watching sports are a way for people to escape from real life, which ironically was after Steve was really into that boulder push race that was more violent than arena football. You are right that Steve episodes usually are better when they involve his friends.

again much like last week i so much more enjoyed the hailey roger and jeff story, the whole roger always has some ulterior motive going on making hailey paranoid about what hes up to was pretty funny to me. the whole steve at camp thing was so drab for me.

Agreed, I even liked the Steve stuff people are slamming. Roger's story was funny but more predictable.

Major nitpick for the druggies out there: Hayley should have been tripping sack, she held a whole sheet of acid in her bare hands. You need to hold those sheets with tweezers when you are cutting off tabs or your fingers digest the chemical and you start tripping. Writers clearly never handled a sheet of acid before, fucking nancyboys.

eh not really
acid on sheets is in a crystaline form and not as easily absorbed through the skin as liquid state acid. Still tho, she shoud've gotten at least some effects from barehanding it, but tripping sack I think is going alittle bit too far, plus she only gripped it with like finger and thumb

It was a great episode this week. I liked the whole concept of Stan's subplot of him dying to relive his memories to escape from having to eat healthily and stuff. And one of my good friends went to ASU and he was pretty much a partier himself so I could relate to Steve's subplot.

Cool episode, only thing that bugged me was Stan has already met francines father in season 4 episode 4 he even went to their house, so there is a massive continuity hole right there, i mean surely the people running the show know this because the model they used was the exact same. http://americandad.wikia.com/wiki/Nicholas_and_Cassandra_Dawson

Was a decent episode and the scene with Steve, Hayley and Stan in the car was hilarious as was Roger as a cat. Francine's plot ended up being another Most Dangerous Game rehash, which was okay but it was predictable.

I forgot about that but I surprised that it wasn't mentioned in the episode that Stan had previously visited the mansion and met Francine's father either.

yeah i liked roger being a cat too, also at the end when hes about to leave, starts taking off the costume and walks out francines dad is like "maybe we should go back to wet food" almost like he knows its roger in a costume and not an actual cat.

But again on the whole stan already met francines dad, i wouldve been fine with even a slight nod to the audience, but there was no acknowledgement at all

Kidding! but really, the ep just wasn't funny. Even before the plat kicked in, I was bored to tears. I kept telling myself "some of these new eps start weak but get funny when the plot starts" but this got even worse when the plot kicked in.

I can agree with that. Even my friend that was watching with me was shocked to see all that fish on alien lovemaking but I thought that montage was pretty funny. Could have been a much better episode but it was probably this season's weakest so far. Didn't care for the other subplots of Steve trying to get out of the presidential fitness test and Hayley's pink eye.

The Long Bomb and Kloger were consistently unfunny. They didn't even bother with jokes during Kloger, guess they figured the gross alien fish sex would carry the whole episode. This season has definitely had some bland episodes, with some only being carried by occasional roger moments. The summaries for the next few episodes sound promising though. I especially want to see see the one about Roger as a bounty hunter.

You mean like the episode where Jeff's dad tried to turn him in? I haven't been watching this season (or any of the recent seasons) as they air, but between this and the episode with Francine's parents... again, it sounds like the line is being toed. In the ass.

Watched this past week's episode. I thought it was pretty good. I thought the payoff of Hayley and Roger's storyline with South Dakota Slim being Roger and Hayley just leaving was funny. I dunno how I felt about the main plot of Stan and Steve being garbagemen. I did like when Klaus was in the truck and Stan threw him out.

They were all pretty okay, i enjoyed 22 the best, the one where roger is a ventriliquist doll is pretty lame but still okayish and episode 20 was pretty okay.

my biggest issue with hailey and roger stories is its ALWAYS roger, i know its a running gag but omg please just have them do something together where roger doesnt end up to be the antagonist. i mean the family always kind of know its going to be roger but come on, chief premise running thin

Unfortunately is was a terrible ep nb just watched it and am sitting here even more bored than when it started. Felt like something Family Guy would make, or South Park 20 years ago when Jew jokes were still radical. A lot of these jokes have been done in old South Park even (anyone remember the OG Mr Hanky ep where Kyle sings about being a lonely jew on christmas?), although I guess that's just Simpsons Did It territory.

They could have firefly'd with 8 great seasons to go over but instead now they are are in stargate universe territory.

american dad is at that point the simpsons was at around the early-mid 00s or so where it was still putting out a few classics per season but more than 50% of the episodes were just not memorable or spirited. though some of the less great episodes will still have a good line or two. happens to everything if it goes on long enough, especially since one of the showrunners has been gone for a while. I'm impressed with how long it maintained the quality honestly. Squidbillies is at the same point too I think. hell, modern simpsons is at the point where the good and worthwhile parts can be cut into 3-6 minute best of clips on youtube. I don't even know what family guy is like now, but the few episodes I've seen from the recent years at least kept the mayor west bits good. even in otherwise bad episodes.

I recently rewatched the first 8 seasons and realized us fans have greatly exaggerated the hit/miss ratio of those seasons. The show has always had more clunkers than we currently admit. I keep watching for the half that are gold. I'm rewatching season 9 and it has some absolute shit eps like Steve and Snott banging each others test tube babies, but also classics like Krampus and the Independent Movie.

it tried to be as good as earlier ones, they clearly put a lot of effort into the production values. but what are you gonna do. I agree on independent movie though, I can easily rank that as my least favorite episode. just awful. I liked a Star is Reborn well enough. it had some decent moments. that part at the end where they keep faking her out with the boat was hilarious. and the whole concept of roger kennel training human beings was great, even if it was a really minor part of the episode. Nothing I'd go out of my way to rewatch though, which applies to pretty much all of season 12. passable with a few really funny moments per episode. unless you lump in that mini season before it, roger passes the bar and a boy named michael were pretty great.

Man, I rewatchd Naughty Stewardesses last night (I'm in season 9 of a rewatch if that wasnt apparent) and it was painfully unfunny. Maybe I just liked Independant Movie because I was getting so sick of the kinds of films it parodied when it first came out. At the time, /mtv/ had me on a kick of watching all the new indie shit, all those crappy films that have screeners leak at Christams and critics love them but nobody ever sees them because they are boring as all hell) and I wasn't sure why I wasn't getting it, and the AD ep made me realize I don't want to get it.

rewatched literally last night (I'm the one who first called it a classic and started this debate). The other guy is right that it had some bad parts. The first half of the episode was very weak, had a big subplot with Stan and Roger that was painfully unfunny. The second half where they get into the meat of the road trip tho is still gold.
