It's funny because you already know at this point in time that at the end of episode IX there will be a celebration scene with the not-ewoks singing their equivalent of the yub-nub song and all the dead jedis including Luke watching them. Rotten Metacritic score: 89. Consumerism has gone too far. Just screencap this and we'll talk in 2019 when the "film" comes out.

Compared to what?
It may have been dull but it was probably the best Star Wars movie so far
I have watched every single Star Wars movie and each one is worse than the last, until TFA, which was metiocre, but this was a pretty solid movie. Just so many of the movies were 100% retarded. I think the reason I don't typically like it is because I feel like it could be 100x better as a hard sci fi.

Agreed, I'm not a big SW geek but I enjoyed the film more than most of the others. It was a nice break from the tight canon of the normal films to have a one-shot. It also seemed to be a smarter film and have more valuable political commentary than anything ep7 offered.

Somewhere at Disney HQ:

"Sir, many people have complained that our attempt at continuing the Star Wars saga bore too many similarities to the first film. They say it felt like a remake moreso than a sequel."

"Good... Good..."

"B-but sir? You want to remake the original trilogy?"

"Everything is proceeding as I had foreseen. These people care not for an original story. We will rewrite what was written and collect their wages all the same."

No, but seriously, that new trailer that just dropped? It's The Empire Strikes Back. You've got a line of AT-ATs launching an assault on a white planet (doesn't look to be snowy, but same color). You've got Rey training with Luke just as Like trained with Yoda. You've even got the Millennium Falcon being chased by TIE fighters through a space tunnel in a scene reminiscent of the asteroid work. Phantasma looking awfully Bobs Fett like, attacking the Han Solo analogue (Finn) — how much you wanna bet she takes him captive at the end of the film, and the 3rd film starts with Rey rescuing him?

And I'll be damned if they didn't spoil the death of Leia in the trailer. I'll bet my cock and balls that Darth Edge fires those rockets and blows her up.

One more thing — what's up with pic related? How are these feet better than what they had before? Why do they feel the need to change things and make them worse?

I hope it gets some flak from the critics this time. I think last time people were just so happy to see Star Wars again they were a bit too forgiving, but if we get another rehash I can see people actually getting pissed. That'd mean 2/3rds of the new trilogy already achieved absolutely nothing in terms of story.

pretty much

none of these big studios have any balls anymore. rehashes and remakes always sell no matter the quality. you're going out on a limb if you try something new and if you screw up you're losing a lot and the film industry is kinda hemorrhaging.

I'll watch the new one but I won't see it in theaters. I'll just wait until I can download it. TFA and Rogue One were pretty good imo, better than the prequels but I've never been very invested in Star Wars. They're nothing special like a lot of people seem to think but worth the hour and a half I guess.

Episode 7 disappointed me so much that I didn't even watch rogue one yet. I don't have high expectations for any of these movies anymore because everyone kept saying how great the first new one was but it was dogshit. It felt like it was written by a committee and multiple focus groups designed to give people the maximum amount of "the things our research says the people want" and it was a fucking remake with the same plot of a new hope so you basically have zero interest in the plot because you know exactly what's going to happen with the only real variation being what form of cgi action scene you get. Plus the shitty nostalgia points grabs we're so fucking classless and scummy(some dead guy was literally CGIed in or something? I don't really remember), they're just picking the absolute lowest of the fruit their research indicates they can grab and I was waiting for it to be over while the audience in the theater was having their moments. Now I don't trust people telling me things about these movies anymore.

>written by committee
That's exactly what it was. Disney puts a lot of money into research so they know exactly what the least common denominator is. But I still think it was better than 6, 1, 2 and 3. I'm not a big Star Wars fan so take that as you will, but 4 out of the 6 original movies were either boring, couldn't find a good way to balance the tone for the movie, or just had horrible actors playing unlikeable characters.

The series has always been deeply flawed, likely due to Lucas's lack of talent. It's just that during the first 3 it's not really as apparent because the content seems so original.

Yeah it was written by committee but it was better than at least 3 of the movies Lucas made. And Rogue 1 was 10x better than TFA. Just watch it and quit acting all butthurt that someone more competent bought the franchise and didn't make it exactly the way you'd like.

>Lucas's lack of talent.

It's nothing to do with his lack of talent overall. He made his best stuff when he was young and humble, taking in advice and making changes. Collaborating.

By the prequels everyone thought he was a god, and being credited with the popularity of the older movies actually went to his head, making him think he could make it all happen again with him at the helm and everyone afraid of giving him the advice and ideas that helped elevate the previous works.

Then again, if you can't tell that the green-screens aren't exactly enabling world-class performances from the actors by the second movie in the trilogy maybe you have absolutely no fucking talent.
